My good friends took me here claiming it was some of the best Italian food in town. Wow were we disappointed. The service was poor, slow and unpolished. The poor new server was kind but he was not setup for success. He read the specials almost verbatim from his notes. Then when we asked for suggestions on wine, he went to a more senior server who pointed us to some of the cheapest red wine options. (We would have paid for the reserve selection if they highlighted it.) Then we ordered the meatballs, 2 pizzas and prawn/scallops to share at our table. The appetizers took over 25 min to arrive. The meatballs were dried out with little flavor. The pizza sauce was swimming over the top of the meat as if it wasn't cooked right. Then ...we finally ordered our entrees. The tomahawk. The sausage special. We were really looking forward to them. It took nearly an HOUR for them to arrive! Our server said they were waiting on the steak. Meanwhile our busser took some of the dirty plates off our table but left half of them. And then he didn't bring us fresh plates for our entrees. Then the food arrived and the tomahawk looked like it was cooked right since it was sliced, but when we bit into it, it WAS COLD! we were starving We ate it anyway. And then told the server since he didn't ask until we were nearly done. And I went to tell the manager who was defensive The chef even got defensive! We couldn't believe it. My host asked to get the owner on the phone and HE GOT DEFENSIVE as if we were the cause of the poor service and food. Sadly my friends who took me there will never go back and suggest you not give it a try as well. read more

First time at fiamma centro, will likely be back, if you have not heard of this place it's a hidden gem. Had no clue where it was located but had had heard good things about it. Had an appetizer special which was a sausage peppers cheese type dish and it was delicious. I wasn't planning on eating the whole thing but well it happened.... Main course came which I was already kind of full from the appetizer and bread but I had a pizza which was well cooked, didn't love the meat that was on it but over all was an 8/10 Also had a pasta dish which was delicious you can tell the freshness of their pastas as they make them in house. Overall the place was exceptional a nice little date spot in the city. Our server was very personable and he gave us the right amount of attention/privacy. 100% recommended read more

Let me start off by saying I love the vibe and atmosphere of this restaurant. It's a cool space with great decor. I can't get over how big it actually was! Nothing was particularly bad about our service but nothing was spectacular either. We arrived with a party of 9 and they couldn't find our reservation which was made a week in advance. They were quick to accommodate us; though we did have to squish together a bit. Our server was friendly and prompt. The food was decent and looked amazing when it arrived. Again, it wasn't bad by any means but for the price point, I would have expected a bit better. I ordered a steak medium and it came out well done. The pizzas seemed to be the better dishes at the table. We finished dinner with the dessert pizza which was the most memorable part. The idea for a Nutella pizza is pretty genius. I have been to the other Fiammas in Gates plenty of times and enjoyed their menu options and food quality better. The other location would be my first choice but I'd try the one out again. read more

We decided to check out Fiamma Centro for a late Valentine's date. I had been to Buffalo Road before but had yet to check out the new space on Elton Street. This is definitely a romantic spot. The interior design and concept are on point with an open kitchen and a stunning copper front pizza oven on the first floor. We sat in the upstairs dining room which is an intimate, dimly lit space with a view of the first floor. We started our dinner with Bullit Rye Old Fashioneds (what is the plural of that?) and the burrata alla barese . I'll say that this was a rough start for me, two beautiful burrata balls with balsamic glaze rested on arugula but then the salad was drowned with olives and pickled caper berries. As a dish it was fairly unbalanced, but I enjoyed the burrata with the thick cut Italian bread that was served with garlic, oil, and grated parm. The meal went uphill from there, we had the Regina Margarita Pizza and the parmigiana appetizer. The pizza had a great balance of tomatoes and fresh mozzarella with a thick and crispy crust. We are not meat eaters and the choices beyond pizza are limited. The parmigiana was a great choice to eat as an entree because it was huge. We added a side of sauteed broccoli rabe which was outstanding and super garlicky. The service was great, but a bit intense, with our server giving us a super detailed description of each special and menu item we asked about. The food came quickly and the experience was great. I wish you could enjoy the food with a alcoholic beverage and not have to break the bank! And no butter? I finally went to Fiamma! Cute and cozy atmosphere. I had the Pear-Tini and it was amazing & I highly recommend. The food was really good. Our group shared a salad, the Rochester, Margherita and Quattro Formaggi pizzas and a home made pasta and I don't have one complaint. It was hot, really flavorful and everyone left full and satiated. I took away a couple stars because we tried to put in an early appetizer order while we waited for another one of our guests who was running late and were told we couldn't. Our server said they can only enter one order for a table which didn't make any sense to us and the restaurant lost out on extra money from food we wanted. There was also a lightbulb above our table that was severely flickering and needed to be changed. Not usually a big deal, but in a more dimly lit room, it was giving us all a headache because it was as noticeable as a strobe light. Gosh I wanted to love this little place. I go to the salon next door so have been itching to try it for months, and their Mother's Day brunch was a prime opportunity (turned failure). To be fair, this was not our first pick for brunch for Mother's Day, but as a late planner, this was literally the only place that had an open reservation at a reasonable time without a waitlist-- 12:30. Their designer certainly has a keen eye-- the decor and ambiance are on point. So, 2 stars for the flow and the pizzetta (keep reading). Our visit soured early when we ordered drinks at the bar whilst waiting for our not so punctual mother. Prosecco was easy: cold and bubbly. Apparently Tito's with tonic is hard as they keep an empty bottle at the bar, so while it was on display, there was none to be had. Absolut as a substitute, but at the Tito's price. (?) Brought upstairs 7 minutes after our reservation--thanks, Mom-- to a fairly empty dining area. When I called to make a reservation, I was reaffirmed that there would be a 'special' brunch menu, separate from the usual. Not at all the case. We were handed the regular menu and directed to 3 'specials' listed on a chalkboard. Ok, we'll try those? But, after the Cuoppo fritto app. It was lackluster and extremely deep fried. The 'arincino' was very dense and had no flavor. The pasta ball was essentially fried mac and cheese. The croquette was meal-y and very bland. Even with the plastic shot glass of sauce. But the pizzetta: they should make this a dish on its own. We would have eaten a plate of it. The only highlight of our entire meal. We all ordered the specials: the burger and the breakfast-ish pizza. The server came back a few minutes later after ordering-- they were sold out of the burger almost 1 hour after opening. Our family has been in the food business for over 40 years...the place wasn't busy. Poor planning on their part. Instead ordered the fettuccini and clam sauce. Noodles were definitely house made, but coming from an I-tai background, these would've been better served in a chicken noodle soup. Not thoroughly cooked and a difficult texture and thickness for this dish. The pizza special was nothing special. Thin crust covered with unseasoned potatoes, one hard hard fried egg, and what was advertised as sausage, but tasted like beef jerky. The service: not ideal. Shark-like behavior to start when it came to choosing our app and meals, but once delivered, almost nothing. Water had to continuously be requested by staff passing by. I ordered a second glass of prosecco before our app that was then delivered at the end of our meal. Icing on the cake... we asked for boxes for both the clam and fettuccini and pizza leftovers. The fettuccini came back, but the 3/4 of the $18 pizza was thrown out instead of boxed. No compensation or reconciliation at this error. We were offered nothing but apologies for the burger shortage, for tossing the pizza that we ended up paying full price for with nothing left to show, and the slow service. However, the server did promise to "yell at" the busboy for us for tossing our pizza. Thanks? We ended up apologizing to my mom for a less than spectacular Mother's Day meal. With Nosh directly behind this place, and an overpriced, tasteless menu with poor service, I'll be surprised (but hopeful for the owner) if this place survives. Great atmosphere and love that you can make reservations online. The table wasn't ready went we arrived but had drinks at the bar while we waited. The pear cocktail was delicious ! Not too sweet. For an appetizer we go the mussels which were unbearably spicy. I love spice but this was too much. Definitely avoid if you have heart burn! For my entree I got a calzone which was delicious and HUGE. My boyfriend got the pork chop dish which was also very spicy, but he enjoyed it. I took the rest of my calzone to go and the waiter said he would box up the sauce. It was just put into the styrofoam container with no lid and leaked all over my car - so be careful with that! Wood fired ovens are always enticing and usually the product is excellent! We ordered a pizza (no substitutions) for an appetizer. We didn't even finish it with 7 people. To me it was just ok. The real problems began with the meal! If there is an unusual dish that would perhaps offend or taste unusual it is incumbent upon the server to inform said person of such! Usually we like to try different things not just same old same old! I might mention the don't serve butter at all and refuse or not at least to us. NO SUBSTITUTIONS! Really? Usually places like this go caput! Catch my drift? Sooo someone ordered what she thought was a seafood melody (sort of a take on a cioppino) it did say black squid ink in all fairness! Who knew? The seafood was smothered in this black squid ink! First it looked disgusting and tasted the same! Left most. Another had linguine (pitched as homemade) with clam sauce. It was starchy as was all the rest of the pasta. Tooo thick for a linguini noodle and was overly tough and not cooked thru and we like al denote being Italian! I read the Yelp reviews after we ate!!! This is a review that has been a long time coming. I went to this place several months ago and just never got around to writing a review. I went here on a date and we had an excellent time. The staff was very accommodating and the food was great, too. In fact, I probably owe the waitstaff an apology. We were having such a good time, our table was tucked away in a corner, and the lighting was just so that we had a difficult time seeing the rest of the restaurant. We didn't notice that we were the last ones there and I have to imagine the wait staff was getting frustrated with us. However, they never made it known and we're gracious the whole time. If you're craving some take out pizza here, they don't officially do that. However, if you order a drink and pizza at the bar, they have to-go boxes for your 'leftovers.' You should order a drink while you're waiting, I think. I try to practice that when you're at the bar, you're renting space and their is this agreement that you should buy a drink. Waiter seemed annoyed that we had changed tables even though it was still one of his. Waiter was mostly absent, good luck getting any water or refills. I asked to have half a salad instead of the large size that is only offered. Got a stern, "No"! Never checked with us to see if our food was good. Last visit here was a year ago, nothing has changed except maybe the service is even worse. The servers were rude and seemed put off by literally doing their job. 3. The octopus appetizer was vial - it was over cooked and way too thick, 4. The "fresh mozzarella" for the caprese salad was clearly frozen, 5. The polo siciliano came out cold, 6. Da Bronx sandwich didn't have any eggplant in it as described, 7. The server was supposed to split our check in two - it was originally $168.00 he presented two 100 dollar checks, so before tip he is up $32 which he would have gotten away with had we not noticed. My husband and I went here for a date night based on recommendations from a couple people. The atmosphere is nice - it's larger than it looks from the outside but still cozy. The food was good - not great. We shared Mussels to start and had to order more bread as soon as we saw the plate because the bruschetta was so minimal. For entrees, I had the Paccheri allo Scoglio and my husband had a veal dish. Everything was fine, but I would have expected to be more "wowed" if I'm spending that much for dinner. Service was good, though the server (who I think was also tending bar?) was very familiar with us. I guess some people like that but we thought it was a little weird. Really enjoyed our first visit to this second hipper, more spacious iteration of Fiamma. Located in the now-coveted NOTA neighborhood right by the Makers Art Gallery, the building is all brick and looks startlingly picturesque. The negative? Parking. There is, however, more parking around the back closer to Glen Edith. As for the decor and ambiance, it's an arresting mix of restored industrial and rustic farm - there's a variety of smoked and cured meats presented in cases in the back (a bunch of stuff from McCann's!), a gorgeous wine cellar, a large bar with a tv screen that projects black and white Italian movies, and an upstairs dining area. The grand ceiling and staircase upstairs gives the place such an open atmosphere, it's great. And of course, a bright authentic Napoli wood fired oven dominates the center of the mostly open kitchen. The bar serves a very limited menu and this is what we went with this time - margarita pizza, skillet potatoes crisped to perfection with aromatic rosemary and garlic and the most curious array of arancini I've ever had! The pizza was similar to the delights of Fiamma home base in Gates - fresh, characteristically soft center and charred crust. Not too sweet with ripe tomatoes. The arancini was perfectly fried and very creative. One thing I enjoyed was that the center wasn't ready to burn your mouth off. My husband & I live nearby and went here for the 1st time this summer & had a wonderful experience so when we were making dinner plans with 2 other couples for last night, we highly recommended this restaurant and we all went. Evening started off great with pre-dinner drinks at the bar from a wonderful bartender. Once seated upstairs, things went downhill. Our server was one of the most rude, inattentive servers we have ever encountered. Anything we asked for was declined in an inhospitable manner ("on the charcuterie board could we go heavier on the cheese than the meat? No." "Could we have butter to go with our bread? No.", etc.) We had to ask for bread or crackers to go with the charcuterie and were told the bread he brought 10 minutes earlier that we had already consumed was for the charcuterie. "Could we get some more then?" "Ok." Once the food was brought out, he never came back to check on us so I had to flag the busboy to see the wine menu for my husband & I to order glasses of wine with our meal. When he finally took our wine order, he grabbed some empty dishes to clear which left him with no free hand to take the wine book (yes, book, not simple list.) I expected him to come back and retrieve the wine book once he'd set down the cleared dishes. He didn't, so I ended up setting it on the floor since there was no room on the table and my food was getting cold. Although overall the food was good, one of our guests did not care for her entree. When the server finally came to check on us 3/4 of the way through our meal & my friend mentioned she didn't like her entree, he gruffly asked if she wanted something else & she said no, at this point she'd just share her husband's meal. He then offered to take the charge for her dish off the bill (she did not ask for this but graciously accepted) & he removed her dish. When the bill arrived the charge was still there. At that point my friend had had enough of our server and took the bill and went downstairs to see a manager. The server saw this and came over to our table and said "I forgot to take her meal off" and headed downstairs. A little bit later my friend came back up. I have never seen her so angry, on the verge of tears. She began a decent conversation with the manager and then another worker (we're not sure who he was) came from out back and literally started yelling at her, accusing her of sending her food back and her diet coke (she did neither, the server offered to take back the food and she drank her soda). He then stated they don't take off charges bc a patron doesn't like something (ok, not our fault your server offered that option when we didn't ask for it & removed the dish & we're now expected to pay for food that wasn't even on the table), he then went on to tell her to look in the mirror, that she was ugly! My husband and I paid the full bill and I stopped to talk to the manager on the way out (our friends had already left). The manager was apologetic but did nothing to "make it right." I was embarrassed to have brought my friends there and have us all treated in this manner. We will NEVER be back which is unfortunate bc we are walking distance to this establishment & the food and decor are pretty nice but the service and management are abominable! read more

Four of us had been wanting to check out Fiamma for quite some time. The physical setting is very cool but the service and food don't live up to the space. We had a similar experience as another poster who said they wouldn't seat at the reservation time even though there were tables available. We were told they ran out of menus and told we could wait at the bar. We felt this was just a ploy to give the bartender some business. When it became clear we were not going to be seated within 5 minutes, we did order drinks from the bar....something the wait staff has either agreed to do or is upset about drink orders already happening before seating. We tried the pizza as an appetizer, which I would recommend again. After that, only 1 of 4 meals were favorable, and that was the Garganelli ai Cavolfiori. I ordered the Il Filetto which was so bad, I didn't even think it was filet. Upon further inspection of the menu (and sides) at home, I determined that I was served the hanger steak. I had to order the Potato wedges separately but they were supposed to be a side with the filet. I had to wait 5 minutes longer, for the wrong order. I really wanted to like this place, and I might go back just to sit at the bar for pizza or potato wedges but there are so many places (and new places) in Rochester to try. The evening started off wonderfully. The bartender was GREAT. Had we known this would be the highlight of the evening, I think at that point we would have left. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. At 7:00 we were shown to our table upstairs. Our server came over and seemed to be somewhat distracted and in a rush. After looking at the menu, we decided on appetizers to start. we were told that we had to order our entire meal (appetizers and main entree) at the same time. Having a few people with different dietary needs, we asked that the charcuterie board be a bit heavier on the cheese than the meat. We were told "no" they wouldn't do that. We moved on. Another person brought over italian bread roughly cut up in a bowl and said this is bread for the table. Our server after a very long wait came over and I asked for some butter. I was dismissed directly and told "no, we don't offer or have butter just the oil". What restaurant doesn't have butter even if it isn't on the table?! A good amount of it was consumed by the time the appetizers came so we asked for crackers or something for the charcuterie board. Our server told us that we were given bread. We said we thought it was for the table and asked for more. He was obviously put out by this. Two people wanted wine with dinner. The server never gave us a wine list. We waited and finally asked some one else for it. Our meals came and for the most part we were pleased. Accept for one person in our party. The waiter didn't come back to check on us till we were well into our meals. At that point the person who was not satisfied with their meal said so. Our server offered something else. She declined as she was now sharing with her husband. Our server without being asked, offered to take the meal and remove it from the bill. The rest of our dinner went much the same way. Rude server and no customer service. We then noticed a specials board. When I asked about it, I was told that they didn't use that board. I said ok but were there specials? The server looked at me for several seconds and said "yes" there were specials this evening. When I asked why we didn't hear about them he merely said sorry "I was really busy". Then the bill came. The meal that was supposed to be taken off was still there. The person who's meal it was, had enough and took the bill to go downstairs to talk to the manager. When our waiter saw her leave the table with the bill, he immediately ran over and said "I think I forgot to take the meal off". He then frantically ran to the railing to see what was happening downstairs and then disappeared. The person in our party that went downstairs to talk to the manager is in no way an intimidating person. A few minutes later she came back to the table visibly shaken and clearly on the verge of tears. While talking to the manager, someone from the back came forward and started yelling at her. Telling her she was an awful person and started making accusations that where clearly untrue. He started screaming at her and saying hurtful derogatory things about her appearance and became completely unhinged. He said she was lying and that their policy was not to take a meal off the bill, ever! She said that since she didn't ask that the meal be removed but was offered it by the server, she wasn't aware of the policy. Had she known, she would have kept the meal and her husband would have probably eaten it the next day. Because they were now charging her for nothing. He proceeded to yell at her, that they still had the meal she sent back in the kitchen (after 1 1/2 hours later) and would wrap it up and give it her. I'm sorry but that's crazy to say nothing as to whether it's even legal. Who knows who's meal it was!! The man stormed to the kitchen and seconds later came back with a take out box he shoved at her and said here is the meal you sent back. We quickly gathered our things. Paid the full large bill (with the meal that was taken back) and proceeded to leave. The couple who recommended the restaurant stayed to settle everything out and gave a tip, in cash, personally to the helper to the server who was polite and did a good job. Still as we were leaving, the crazy man continued to rant at our friend until her husband stepped up behind her. He then settled down a bit! Seriously!!! Found it funny that the manager just seemed to disappear. Needless to say we will never be back to experience such absolute craziness and unstable behavior. read more

I have read some not so positive reviews, but I must say, I've been to Fiamma Centro probably 10 times since they've opened this location and each visit has been nothing short of wonderful!!! Make a reservation ahead of time on open table. You'll be surprised to find available seatings even just a few hours before dinner. Our service has been great, even once had a waitress who pronounced all the Italian dishes perfectly (versus the American interpretation). Cocktails- delish and strong Ok the food. THE FOOD!!!! Fiamma's pizza oven is legit so you can't go wrong with a pie. Try the Rochester if you like prosciutto and truffle. The meatloaf is served in a skillet and exploding with flavor, generous portion too. And the Pasta Al Forno is a must- served in a skillet with dollops of ricotta cheese, and EGG! Makes for a creamy texture. You'll want to finish the whole thing and you'll be stuffed AF but glad you did. All in all- give them a shot for yourself before avoiding the restaurant over some inconsistent bad reviews. read more

Our first visit to Fiamma last evening. The atmosphere was wonderful. The food was remarkable. Very authentic Italian. We ordered chicken Parm a few pizzas and an appetizer of rolled eggplant pizza that was delicious. I had the seafood soup for a main course and it was outrageous. read more

I had a great experience when I came here the first time. Service was great and food was delicious. I mistakenly recommended it for my sisters birthday dinner. We were a party of 9 people, so I made a reservation a week in advance so that we could give them enough time to make sure everything was prepared. Got there about ten minutes early, and was told that our table would be ready in about 15 minutes. No worries, we were early and understood. 40 MINUTES AFTER our reservation time, we were finally seated. The matre de offered no explanation or apology, and was quite snobby to members of our party when asked about where our table was and when we would be seated. We sat at our table for 15 minutes until our server came over to take our drink orders. The only reason we didn't walk out at that moment is because we had a wonderful server after that. Sofia saved the night and our experience was better after that point. Spoke to the manager afterwards, he said the owner was present that evening and he would talk to him about it. Owner never came up to see us after we waited so we left. The only reason I gave them two stars is because the food was delicious and our server was wonderful. Everything else was AWFUL. I will never be back to this restaurant, and none of our party of 9 will be either. Disgraceful and unacceptable. Very disappointed. read more

Look. This place is cute, has a fun atmosphere and my drink (blood orange margarita) was great. But that's about it. We had a reservation for 7:30 and arrived 15 minutes early. Even though there were available tables, they wouldn't seat us until our reservation time. When the time came to be seated, people were seated ahead of us who had just walked in. We had to go ask the host if we'd be seated to finally be acknowledged and seated. Once seated, it took quite a while for our server to acknowledge us. Once he did, he rushed through the specials and sped off before we could ask questions. Our food was good (caprese pizza and steak) but certainly not worth the price. The service was not great and part of our order was forgotten. This place was unnecessarily pretentious and overpriced, not at all worth what we paid. There are far better places to go for a date night. read more

We had a great Sunday evening at Fiamma. Danny is an outstanding bartender and made the evening so enjoyable. He provides great recommendations for dinner. Food was all homemade and some of the best we have had in Rochester. The owner, Giuseppe stopped by to chat about our dinner and we enjoyed hearing about how the restaurant started along with his dessert recommendations which were amazing. First time to any Fiamma location. Was real impressed immediately walking into the restaurant. Being able to see right into the kitchen and the pizzas coming through the oven was a huge plus! Wait was a little long (hour and fifteen min) for four people on a Wednesday but it was worth it! Everything on the menu sounded so appetizing it was hard to decide. I went with the Stella speciality pizza, with stuffed crust knots, it was delicious. The crust is what really made the pizza. My girlfriends got pasta and pizza and we all enjoyed our meals. The ambiance upstairs was wonderful -- would definitely recommend trying this place out. I'd go back! read more

Hadnt been here in long time and will never go back! Service was terrible-they were " out of everything" wouldn't let us order appetizers before ordering dinner and waiter never checked on us or asked how our food was, did we want more drinks etc. The food runner had a mask on that was not covering his nose and no one wore masks when they got up to leave or use the restaurant. read more

On a perfectly snowy evening, stopped in for a glass of wine and a pizza to go. Wine was perfect, thanks to the bartender's recommendation, and butternut squash pizza was incredible. A perfect, calm, and warm atmosphere for this winter's night. Can't wait for more nights like this! read more
