The acoustics in the restaurant are difficult because we were having trouble hearing each other at our own table due to the voices carrying from other tables. If you're a vegetarian, you might struggle to find suitable meals. I ordered a pasta dish and asked for the ham to be taken off and could they put mushrooms on instead and I was quickly told the chef would do no substitutions. So, that's pretty of frustrating... I just wanted some thing other than noodles, Bechemel sauce and cauliflower for my main course. I won't be back. I can't even say how long this place has been on my two visit list! My mom's spontaneously offered to take 18-month-old baby tonight and we decided to have a date night and check something off the list! An Italian place that doesn't give you bread is just weird right? It's like practically a staple! And if you're in a church people for each individual soda three and a half bucks is a bit steep! Actually it's outrageous. They charged us over $10 for maybe 15 ounces of Coke. You're not going to find anything on the menu under $18. Including a cup of soup lol. We got the eggplant and zucchini parmesan which was actually a lasagna with no ricotta. It was okay but it needed seasoning and bread. We also got the 16 oz ribeye steak which was overcooked but not bad. Not going to say it was my favorite steak in Rochester though. Lastly we got the cauliflower pasta with pancetta. Horrible experience. Menu appears authentic but you cannot do anything different to the dish like omit something or ask for anything extra. The first thing we noticed was the hostess was unbelievably clueless. Let us stand there with no acknowledgement for 20 minutes. When we sat the waitress was snippy when we asked the cost of a certain drink. And of course " we aren't allowed to give any separate checks although she actually did but she made a huge deal that they aren't supposed to do it. We actually didn't even care. Fiamma has quickly become one of my favorites. It's a gorgeous and bit eclectic space if you pay close attention. The service is always top notch! You MUST start with a woodfired pizza. You can't go wrong with a classic but I've also tried the butternut squash and prosciutto pizza, that's incredible! I've had seafood pasta, the pasta with sausage and rapini, steak, veal parm... every single dish has been mind blowing. You will leave with leftovers! Loved the atmosphere but unfortunately not a very accommodating restaurant. We wanted to add a protein to one of the pizzas and were told we couldn't make any modifications. We then decided on a pizza to start with as an appetizer while we thought about entrees, however we were told that we couldn't order any apps until we had decided on entrees. When we decided on entrees, we were told that 3 of the steaks were sold out (which would have been nice to know ahead of time). We then decided on a veal parm which doesn't come with pasta, and were told that we could not order just a side of pasta. We were told we'd have to order a whole entree of pasta instead. Drinks were good and enjoyed the vibes of the restaurant, but poor execution with service and menu accommodations. After having tried their place in Gates we finally made it to this location which is much closer to home. We got a reservation for six of us for a Saturday evening via Open Table - a big plus. When we arrived it was pretty quiet since it was only 6pm. While we waited for the others we had a great conversation with the very friendly bartender and scoped out the awesome Italian made prosciutto meat slicer. Once we were all gathered we were escorted upstairs and into their back party room - who knew this place was so big. They explained that they use this for bigger groups. The space is nice and it is quieter than the main rooms which were incredibly loud when we left the restaurant a bit after 8pm. Our group ordered one of the appetizer specials for the evening with lightly deep fried smelt, shrimp and calamari - it was quite good. All but one ordered pizzas for their main - the Rochester, the Diavlo (nice and spicy), the one with butternut squash, a white pizza, and ? (I didn't memorize all of the names). All raved about their pizzas - especially the excellent crust. The butternut squash is a bit adventuresome and may not be for everyone... The sixth member of our party ordered one of their pizza sandwiches which was loaded with ham - it was huge and delicious! Lovely atmosphere - exposed brick, chandelier and copper accents for the decor. Specialty drinks were a nice touch. We ordered the rigatoni al forno, meatball appetizer, and a Insalata di casa. Portions are large and meant to share. We could have done with a salad and one of the other items that we ordered instead. Nonetheless the food was great. The meatballs were tender and will almost melt in your mouth. Much of the dining space is upstairs so if you need accessibility be sure to reserve a table downstairs as there is no elevator. Noise level is high but not unbearable. If you're hard of hearing it could be difficult. Overall we had a lovely experience and our waitress was very service-oriented and friendly. You know the saying "There is no such thing as bad publicity?" Well, I guess in my curiosity, visit, and meal at Fiamma Centro that saying worked on me. I looked at the past year's worth of views, severely positive and negative, up and down like a heart rate monitor; and with the owner's crass but somewhat entertaining responses I asked myself "what the hell is going on here?" So I brought a friend for a second opinion, worked out so I'll be as hungry as possible, and got my flame-suit ready because I had a feeling that I'm going to write a negative review in which the owner will eventually roast me... ...But that wasn't the case. My experience at Fiamma was absolutely fine aside from a couple communication disconnects, and I want to come back. I had reservations for 8:45 on a very busy Saturday night while they were hosting a 75 person RIT party, and we were fortunate to get seated early. The interior was extremely dark to give that romantic vibe, and the decor was primarily brick, wood and brass. The tall ceilings and upper level dining area to view gives it more of that swankiness that I would see at maybe... TRATA? Our server was very friendly and attentive. She checked up on us frequently, but not to the point of being overbearing. All of my inquiries were answered, and if she didn't know, she was more than willing to go out and research for me. Thanks for not BSing me! Okay, so I was really torn about the food. At the close two-tops next to us, the highlights I saw were served delicious chicken, large pizzas, and a cast iron plate of veal parmigiana. I really wanted to taste it all, and our neighbors were very friendly and willing to share how much their enjoying their meals. This type of openness and immediate connection is definitely a product of the close seating and vibe of the restaurant. Anyways, we split the appetizer of squid tentacles and each ordered a pizza. Polipo Fagioli: Great presentation with 3 medium sized squid tentacles and a abundance of tomatoes and beans. Naturally charred, it had a great smoked flavor and wasn't rubbery. pretty good! little iffy on the $14 price tag, but you gotta pay to play. Montanara Pizza: Didn't know what to expect but DAMN it was good. Awesome abundance of cheese, sausage, mushrooms, and potato... I expected this to be a very rich and heavy pizza but it was surprisingly light! The black pepper added that spice I needed and the thin crust wasn't too crispy and maintained the wood fired taste I love. I ordered a side of their homemade marinara to dip my crust in aw well. I wish I took that robust and strong flavored sauce with me, because I can still taste it while writing this out. YUM. For a young business (6 months old I believe), restaurants will have its kinks and quirks to shake out. In my experience, nothing really stood that would make me shy away from here. This review is a combination of two visits. The first time my spouse ate here he said the service was poor, they don't allow substitutions or any changes to the menu items, and are snooty about it. They don't have much pasta because "we are a real Italian restaurant". He said the restaurant was so dimly lit they had to use the light on their phones to read the menu. We came together the second time because his coworker invited us. He ordered the same dish as before, which was ok, but not worth the price. He said the rigatoni, though fresh, was crunchy, and not from being baked. I ordered the Saltimbocca all's Romana. The veal was tough. I did not enjoy it. It also looked like one of our party did not like his hanger steak, he kept poking at it and pushing it around his plate. He did not take the uneaten portion home. I tried his mashed potatoes and was not impressed. Cubed ham is not a good addition to mashed potatoes, and I didn't like the flavor of the cheese. We went here last night for my friends 50th birthday! We spent $400 between 5 of us- I pre-ordered 2 bottles of Prosecco to come out with cake - that I had to remind my waiter about.... And he brought them late(after the cake was cut) & I originally only wanted one bc not everyone drinks - and the host talked me into buying two bottles - and bc of the late service - we still had 1/2 bottle or more of Prosecco open- there were other patrons still dining in the restaurant and a server (not our server because he had left before we finished our meal) came over and loudly yelled "WE ARE CLOSED! It's time to go!" ( So the birthday girl - Stood up and said - I guess it's time to go. Truthfully it totally sucked a lot of the celebration out of the moment ) I was so embarrassed as it was my choice to come here to celebrate my friend bc i have always had such a great experience here in the past- and we had some out of town guests. Also our server forgot to take one of our party's dinner order and we had to call him back over ..... the food was incredible and the vibe was fun. But the service and the way we were treated was honestly awful. One of our party is a chef and a restaurant owner- she couldn't believe how we were treated . She said it was totally unacceptable. I'm disappointed and unfortunately, I'm not sure I'll be back. You embarrassed me and my friend on her birthday. We weren't planning on staying all night but it would have been nice to be able to finish our wine and - in the future if you're going to suggest to someone the restaurant is closed- say it calmly and politely. Also- we were the only table that was told to leave. We were outside waiting for our Uber & we asked a few other patrons as they exited after us if they had been told or asked to leave. Such a disappointment. Could not recommend this to anyone. When we arrived the hostess (not at all friendly or welcoming) could not seat us because "the kitchen is behind". Clearly it sat in the window a long time. Forgive me, but I prefer hot food served hot and cold food served cold) When the server finally showed up he took the steak away. A short time later the runner returned with the same steak, very hot WELL DONE. I'm guessing they tossed in in the very hot pizza oven. Several concerns with this, why would you put food that had been touched by a guest back in a food prep area - it goes to the trash !. So unsanitary. They claim to serve "prime" beef. Why would you ever serve prime beef well done !? ( I do agree the guest should get what they want, but there are many fine restaurants that will not serve prime meat well done). What would make anyone think that if a steak was cooked perfectly the first time that you could reheat it and the temp not go up?! Shear lunacy. I also ordered a side of pasta with the steak. Pretty good except a small cereal bowl size portion was $14 dollars. Petit larceny. I'm certainly not opposed to paying the higher side of a fair price, but this was out of control. It was "ok". The restaurant itself is very cute. The service was relatively slow and it took a while to get our food from the kitchen. The margherita pizza and calamari didn't have much flavor. The fried shrimp was good! My friends enjoyed the chicken with pesto dish. They sat us upstairs and it was so ridiculously hot that everyone at our table was sweating. Recently went to Fiamma Centro for the first time. The decor is charming and the menu looked promising and reeled me in. We tried a specialty pizza, and two pasta dishes (including one special). The food came out almost shockingly quickly, and service was attentive and great. The issue I had was the cleanliness of the restaurant. Frankly it's dirty. The booth side of our table was covered in crumbs. The windowsill next to our table was encrusted with grime. The table was sticky. Crumbs and dirt were all over the floor. The bathroom was not clean. The food was not my favorite. The pasta special was dry (so dry the pasta was sticking together into a single congealed mass) and the sausage orecchiette pasta had a lot of whole peppercorns in it that made it hard to eat (some is fine but this was a LOT). But overall it would've been hard to enjoy any quality of food when I was concerned about the overall cleanliness of the restaurant. read more

Talked to the supposed manager (Adam) and he did nothing, didn't apologize and offered nothing except they were 'busy'. Over the past few years I've accepted Fiamma's quirks and became a regular at the place, and I feel that this warrants a second review. In my original review I mentioned the fantastic pizza, and that has not changed. The pizza is still the best in Rochester and I frequently have a craving for it. I also would recommend their hot appetizers in general. You can't go wrong with these. Originally I also mentioned a communication gap between us and the staff, and I believe the servers' attitude has softened over time. Nowadays I find the staff of Fiamma as pleasant as any other restaurant. In my original review also spoke about feeling rushed -- there is an improvement in that regard, although it requires some micro-management from my part. If you visit the restaurant and prefer to slow your roll - with consideration for how busy they are, of course - I recommend politely asking your waiter to not enter your second course until you are almost finished with your appetizers. I find that this approach leads to the best timing, for pizzas bake in that oven faster than you'd think. All in all, I feel that Fiamma is a nice restaurant, and I wanted to make sure my reviews reflected that. read more

A return trip was long due and we enjoyed sharing delicious salad with pear and goat cheese, a white pizza and dessert. Perfect amount to satisfy and not have tons of leftovers to bring home. Opening reservations worked well as an hour later the venue was nearly full. Our server was good and did not try to push big entrees knowing we had visited before. I recently booked here for my birthday with a group of my friends. My partner and I have been here plenty of times and have had nothing but great food, service and drink. This experience was a little different and may change my view on coming back in the future. I started off by ordering my usual drink and it seemed very off as my friend and I have ordered the same drink. My friend got hers at the bar downstairs and I got mine upstairs after we sat down. The drinks were extremely different in taste so I asked our waitress if she would mind getting me another one as it was off. I am never the person to send anything back but it was too expensive to not enjoy. When I asked the waitress she just looked with a disgust look and me and told me "I'm going to just make it the same way..". Seeing as I get this drink every time I said maybe it's just the glass and she made the drink. Came back in a different glass and still not great. The food was fantastic but our waitress was extremely rude the entire night and simply didn't check on us more than 3 times for the 2 hours we where there. We were only able to order drinks 2 times at most and had 1 fill of water the whole time. She was very stand-offish and snotty to myself and my friends and simply ruined our experience for my birthday dinner. We ordered pizza and salad, the pizza was fantastic, and the bread was perfectly soft and fresh. The salad came out after the pizza which was strange and it was massive. It tasted good but but we were too full from the pizza to really eat it. I can't speak to any other food but ours was fantastic. Our only issue was with the service. We came in later in the night and apparently our server was too fed up with us before we sat down. We saw him whine to the other server that we came in before he came to greet us. Came here for dinner on a random Tuesday and the place was bustling! The host was definitely working his tail off. I made a reservation online and ended up having to wait about 30 minutes for a table, which was slightly disappointing. The food and our waiter made up for it though! Menu is extensive with lots of options for meat eaters and vegetarians. Come hungry, because the portions are huge! My friend had the lamb meatloaf, which I swear was at least 2 pounds of meat! WTF are you paying my uber home then? no manager to talk to ?!?! Only the Pizza cook who never came to our table. I went for dinner on a Saturday night. I can summarize the experience as an exercise in waiting. The food was good but I cant recommend a place that has this much trouble moving guests through for a weekend dinner. Maybe its better on weekdays? The inside has two levels and there is outside seating. The downstairs is more of a bar area. The dining is mostly upstairs. I liked the atmosphere. The branded brick oven was a nice touch. The food and drinks were good. I started with a Bonanza cab which was good. My wife had wine too. Then switched to a Martini. The by-the-glass wine list is smaller. But they had a few quality wines on there though. The bottle selection was more impressive. We started with the charcuterie plate (piccolo). I was decently impressed. Olives, a whole big foccacia, truffle honey, 3 meats, and 3 cheeses. The brie was very good and I think one was Piave which is a personal favorite. Mortadella was good too. I had the califlower, Gargnelli, pancetta, and Besciamella as my entree. I liked it. It was an interesting combo and worked out well. My wife had the pasta and clam sauce which she also liked. It had several shelled clams in there as well. The pasta seemed fresh and tasted homemade. They also cooked it perfectly al dente. Prices were very reasonable for the food and atmosphere. If i went just on food alone, this would have been a 4.5 star review. I used the online booking system on their website that morning. Every reservation was open. We picked 7:15. The restaurant was busy inside and outside. The bar room was full and people were waiting outside as well. We had to wait around 40 minutes at the bar for our table to be ready. Thats just too long. The bar tenders were very busy. It took 15 minutes to get a drink menu. Then another 10 minutes for them to come back around to order drinks. The group of 5 next to us was there even longer and ended up giving up after 45 minutes and went to a different restaurant. We were sat at a bar table. Another couple was sat at a bar table near us as well. I think they just gave up on a dining room table for us because these tables were open the whole 40 minutes we were waiting. We weren't greeted at the table for around 15 minutes. The bartenders were just overwhelmed and cant handle 3 tables on top of the bar duties. The service suffered because of that. I usually enjoy a long, drawn out dinner but everything just took too long. The wait between being given menus, drinks, appetizer, check, processing the check, etc was long. We ended up leaving at 9:40 (with a 7:15 reservation). All staff wore masks at all times. Guests at tables were seated farther apart to help with distancing. Nevertheless, a stormy Friday night called for some authentic Italian and we were hankering some wood-fired pizza. I'm happy to report that we had a wonderful experience of both food and service! We came in on a Friday night and without a reservation and we were seated immediately, albeit, at a strange and removed table. But I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and assume the other tables were reserved. Our waitress (whose name resonates with one of my favorite Fall herbs) was lovely, endearing and genuine, helpful and had a good sense of humor. The drinks were a bit questionable. I enjoyed my bottle of wine, but my friends cocktail tasted more like a melted orange freezee-pop popsicle than it did a classy cocktail. The food was excellent though. We were served bread, which seemed a little unnecessary since we ordered pizza. The bread was not my ideal Italian-restaurant bread, but it was good. Very dense and served with olive oil for soaking. The pizza was delicious and original. We ordered the Positano and the Stella (a 8-point STAR-shaped pizza!). What a fun twist on a classy classic. My only complaint was the location of our table, and the size. We could barely fit our 2 small plates, drinks, water, and two pizzas on the table. It was impossible to fit it all with the bread, so the bread was preemptively removed, along with the salt and pepper. Next time I plan to make a reservation, I think that is key. Hopefully requesting a better table situation. But I really can't wait to go back and try more food. read more
