My favorite salon for almost four years and I can't speak for the rest of the stylists, but Rudy is the best I've ever worked with. I've been with him since the start of this salon. I take my hair pretty seriously and after several bad experiences, I would never use a stylist that I didn't love and have a natural rapport. I constantly get compliments on my hair at work (where people usually spend $250+ per cut), at bars, on the freakin' bus, and once, a missionary rang my doorbell with his wife and gave me some literature about their church. He did all of the talking and as I went to close the door, the wife stuck her hand in the doorway and said "I'm so sorry to ask this, but can you please tell me who does your hair?" I've referred several people to him and at least half have gone and loved his work. read more

This is the 1st salon I went to after moving to Brooklyn. I read great things on Yelp so I booked an appointment. My stylist was very cool and easy to talk to. Unfortunately, I just didn't love the cut. I like a little more ambiance at a salon; whether it be music, personalities, decor, whatever. Fez just didn't do it for me. read more

My sister and I have been going to Fez, and specifically Rudy, for about 10 years combined now. He is especially good with curly hair, is confident enough to cut it wet, always listens to the client's vision, and everyone in the shop is professional and friendly. While you can get cheaper cuts from Aveda Institute students, the prices here aren't absurd...roughly $50-$70/style before gratuity. They have always accommodated me even when I've been running late for an appointment and Rudy also works on Sundays I believe. Go check them out! read more

I just wanted to update that my 20 year old daughter had a cut with Natasha about a month ago. She has the complete and total opposite type of hair than mine - hers is straight, thin and short where mine is curly, thick and long. The result? She looked fabulous and couldn't stop ranting and raving about how great Natasha is. She got a cute little short shaggy cut and advice on what types of product to use (not a salon sales pitch on specific name brands but generic types of products) and advice on different ways to style it. I was going to be around the area and I had 2 hours to kill so I decided to get a much needed haircut at Fez. Oh my!!! I have no regrets of doing this. Lissette took me in and made me feel very comfortable. I just told her what I wanted and she gave me some new suggestions ...in the end, she made it happen. By the way, the hair wash and massages she gave to my head made me feel in heaven so as I now call it a "cerebral massage". The BEST Color 'n' Cut in a looooong time...Jodi is a Star !!! I have been to various salons trying to find the best Stylist for myself. Recently a close friend recommended Fez Salon, and to specifically ask for Jodi. Being in entertainment, I tend to be a little fussy so wasn't sure what to expect. From the second I walked in I was greeted with smiles, a welcome change. I loved the feel of this place, intimate, warm and trendy (artwork from the owner, Rudy, is a nice touch) Jodi has all the positive energy and passion you could ever ask for. I needed a change but didn't know what. Jodi talked me thru styles and looks that would suit me and made me feel comfortable and not rushed...so much so that I left it in her own hands. I got some color and a stylish cut that made me feel like a million dollars. I've been there a handful of times now and it's always been a great experience. Yet again I'm giving 5 starts because this place is truly FABULOUS! I love love love this spot. As soon as you open the door the stylish air fills all your body. It's so cute and cozy in there and the people are so friendly that I wouldn't mind spending all day there :o) First of all, they don't just wash your hair prior to cutting, they give you a whole new experience - the amazing head massage lasted like 15 minutes and I didn't want it to stop. Then, half sleeping, I fell into Rudy's chair and he worked wonders. He is so creative and he really enjoys what he's doing. After his magic touch my hair was stylish and cool and I just loved what he did with it! I was at this place several times and I was always satisfied, planning to go again soon. Price is around $50-60 (without tip) for a woman's haircut, which (I think) is great considering the final high quality great looking product. As for appointment flexibility, I can't complain because on my first visit I needed a haircut that day and they managed to squeeze me in, although they're quite busy :o) How did I find out about it? Two people I knew had such a cool hair style I had to ask where they got it - and they said "Fez" ... cool, I stopped by and fell in love ;o) Note: I have dark, almost straight hair (a little wavy when humid :) shoulder length at the moment and I always get a hair cut by Rudy (usually a brand new style). read more

Everyone in this salon is present, helpful and SO nice. I obviously love Rudy and he is the first (and only) person that makes my curly confidence BOOST! I haven't found anyone as spot on as him. He will take the look you have in your head, always gives you some helpful tips and/or criticism when appropriate, and then the look comes to life even better than you expect. I've never written a review on Yelp before, but this haircut is so bad that I feel compelled to write one. My old hairdresser quit to go to law school last year and I have been looking for someone new ever since then. I read lots of reviews and people said that Rudy at Fez was good so I decided to give him a try. I won't go into details about the specific cut I wanted, but I described it to him in great detail and we had a really long consultation and I felt confident that he understood me and that it would be just what I wanted (and what I've been growing my hair out to do). Well, he butchered it. It is the absolute worst haircut I've ever gotten. Not only is the haircut bad, but he cut it all off so short that it can't really be fixed until it grows out in 5 or 6 months. It is so bad that they didn't charge me. Rudy is the king of hair ninjas. I'm told stylists are like, lifetime contracts. I got my hair cut before my wedding, & mostly I will just clipper this old mop myself, but I went to Fez for a nice cut & I'll keep going when I need more. Rudy is the best. The salon was highly recommended to me by a dear friend, and since my first visit a few year ago, I have kept returning. Rudy listens, has fabulous ideas, and will give you a hair cut with the perfect style for your features that works with your life. This past week I had the good fortune of getting highlights from Joni to complete my new fabulous look. They are brilliant. Joni is also a talented makeup artist and will give you the perfect look for your next event. I had my hair cut with Ismael several months ago. He did a nice job and it has grown out very well. We looked at some pictures first and he gave honest recs for a new style for me based on the pictures I had brought in. I have very straight hair in a longish bob. Anthony colored my hair and I thought the color came out gorgeous. I am extremely picky about color and have gone to the same colorist in Manhattan for 7 years. He did a rich auburn on my light brown hair which has a few greys and it came out very rich. Auburn is a pretty tough color to do right and I was pleased. I may still try a few more Brooklyn stylists before settling down with someone but I was impressed and would definitely go back. read more

Moving here from Boston I was wary of leaving my favorite salon and stylist behind. After one bad cut elsewhere and a bunch of inexpensive cuts at my Mom's salon in CT, I finally decided to give this place a try. I have fine hair, which I keep short and a little funky. Everyone with short hair knows, you can't afford to mess it up. A pony tail is not an option. Per the recommendation of a friend I have Rudy a try and he did a fantastic job! He took his time to make sure everything was cut evenly and textured perfectly. I'm about a week into my second cut and am still pretty satisfied. It's a little shorter than I wanted, but since most stylists tend to not cut enough, I'm certainly not going to complain. I recently moved to Brooklyn and have been looking for a new hair stylist. I was hesitant to rush into anything, but the situation was getting serious as my hair was growing out too much and unlike the Beatles I cannot pull off the mop-top look. Finally I decided to give Fez Salon a try. I was hoping to book an appointment with either Reina or Roxie (both of whom have been mentioned in rave reviews on this site) but was slightly disappointed to find out that the only appointment I could make was with a stylist named Emanuel. I decided to give him a try and I am so happy I did! First off, he was graciously forgiving of the fact that I was late to the salon. After I had my hair washed, he took me through a quick consultation and started to cut. I didn't have any strong thoughts about what I wanted, so I sort of let him take over. I felt comfortable and at ease with the job he was doing at every stage of the cut. (You know that point midway through a haircut when things don't look so good and you feel like jumping out of the chair for fear that it will only get worse? I'm sure that never happens in Emanuel's chair.) Emanuel is friendly but not overly chatty (thankfully) and clearly very skilled. He ended up giving me the best haircut of my life--and in record time! My next haircut will definitely be at Fez, and I will make sure it is with Emanuel. read more

It's always easy to book an appointment, they bring you water while you are waiting, and the small talk isn't awkward when she's cutting your hair. This is a very unassuming, no-drama little place. No glitz, music or attitude. Thank god. My husband and I have both been going to Reina at Fez for almost 3 years now and she is AMAZING (my cuts are $60, his are $45 I think). I pretty much just let her do what she thinks is best, although she is very careful to explain it to me beforehand and ask me for all the input I have. I have very fine, brown hair and Reina layers it beautifully and always makes me look cooler than I am. She is the only stylist who has ever given me bangs, which I never thought I could pull off. She is also a really smart, interesting person and fun to talk to. She only works Thursday and Friday now, which is terribly inconvenient for me, but I make it work with my schedule because when you find a place this easygoing and a stylist you trust this much, you never. let. go. read more
