Amazing spot for a large group dinner. They tables are long benches, so they were able to accomodate our group of 9 no problem. You can also make an advance reservation which is a plus. Because we were a large party we shared a bunch of the family style trays which ended up being perfect. Meat highlights were the juicy brisket and flavorful pulled pork - on a Hawaiian roll this was absolute perfection. The best sides were the burnt end beans and the mac and cheese. The vibes are fun and lively and they have an extensive list of beer, wine and cocktail. The negroni was so smooth that I had to order a second. First off, we love BBQ. We've enjoyed it in KC, Texas, Iowa, Tennessee, North Carolina, and many other amazing BBQ destinations, so we admit we're pretty picky. I really liked the location and ambiance of Fette Sau. The chicken was outstanding--moist, flavorful, and one of the highlights of the meal. We also enjoyed the ribs. They were huge, tender, and very tasty. Unfortunately, there were several disappointments, which is why Fette Sau only earns 3 stars from us. When it comes to brisket, I'm not accustomed to BBQ restaurants serving almost exclusively the point cut or fat cap. We ordered a pound of brisket and could only eat about a quarter of it because it was simply too fatty for our taste. We strongly prefer the flat cut, which can still be incredibly moist and flavorful when prepared well. A combination of both cuts would have been fine, but receiving mostly fat was a major letdown. The large mac and cheese side easily fed the three of us, but it was very dry and lacked flavor. The cornbread muffin was similarly disappointing--dry and bland. Went with my family for dinner. Now it's important to understand that I was at the original Fette Sau many years ago. I know what good barbecue tastes like. This is now the second time that I have been into the Philadelphia location. The first time was somewhat of a disappointment, but we figured we'd give it another try. The first Big error is that unfortunately they still do not know how to cut the brisket. The proper way to cut brisket is against the grain. When you cut it any other way, the brisket is tough and chewy. We actually pointed this out to the Chef as he was cutting it, and he looked at us like we were crazy. As expected, the brisket was tough and chewy. The other dishes that we got with it were disappointing as well. Baked beans that were significantly undercooked and very hard to the tooth. The collard greens were not very good either. We also got chopped beef./brisket. Also not very tasty. Almost no smoke flavor in the meats. Really a shame, as the original in Brooklyn was excellent. Significant note to the owner of the establishment, please train the chefs/folks in charge of cutting the meats in the proper way to cut brisket. The food didn't come out all at once which was a little awkward since we were in a group. One person in our group ended up waiting 15 minutes longer than everyone else to get her food. This was a great find they do bbq well and also have a great bar area serving beer and cocktails. I got their old fashioned and it was delicious. Memorial Day automatically gives me BBQ vibes, so it was a no brainer to find one of the best spots in Philly for dinner. I stopped by Fette Sau years ago and grabbed takeout, but never dined at the establishment. I wanted to change that on Memorial Day. Placing an order at the restaurant was easy because the line wasn't long. We stepped right up and grabbed a number for our table then proceeded to place our order. After looking over the menu, we opted to go with a "family style meal." Our meal was "Pigs in a Clover," and it consisted of 1/2 of ribs, pulled pork, mac n cheese, collard greens, potato salad, spicy slaw, broccoli salad, and burnt end baked beans. Sounds like a lot?! It was. Haha!! We grabbed an Old Fashioned and Fishtown Punch for our drinks. All of the outdoor tables were taken, but there were plenty of tables inside. We grabbed a table next to the window that overlooked the seating area outside. Our drinks arrived quickly, which was a good sign. My Fishtown Punch was delicious, but very small. The glass was maybe 1/4 full, so it didn't last very long. My partner liked his Old Fashioned. It took a while for the food to arrive, but the wait was worth it. After receiving our feast, we dove right in. I found the ribs to be very tender. They were meaty, smokey, well seasoned and tender. I enjoyed the house sweet sauce and felt it was a great addition. The pulled pork was equally tasty. Next up, the burnt end baked beans. I found the beans to be savory with a little heat. I really liked them as a side. I moved on to the mac n cheese. I absolutely loved this side. The mac n cheese had the perfect texture. The cheese to noodle ratio was spot on, which made the mac n cheese creamy simply delicious. Now, I like potato salad, but didn't think the potato salad at Fette Sau was a fav. I have never been a fan of German potato salad, so I moved on from it FAST! I felt the same way about the collard greens. They simply lacked flavor and left a lot to be desired. After trying most of our meal, I skipped the broccoli salad and spicy slaw (sorry, I can't review this items). The Pigs in a Clover was a great option and we had plenty leftover for the next day. We were very happy with our Fette Sau BBQ experience and would recommend it to anyone looking for decent BBQ in the city. read more

Have wanted to come here for a while and finally made it in, luckily during their afternoon happy hour. The theme is 100% on point, that is done very well. You go up to the counter, take a number, and order everything. Someone will then bring it to you after you sat at a table or outside. Up to this point everything was great. Menu features a lot of barbecue choices and sides. The happy hour specials are good, I'd recommend trying things off that. Everything was just okay. Meat itself was fine, though a bit bland. While the barbecue isn't particularly unique, everything tasted good and there was plenty of food for group of 6 (we got the family dinner). My favorite thing about the restaurant is the interior, it's a very nice vibe that is perfect for a casual Friday night out with friends or family. It's self serve style, which makes it easy to get drinks at the bar or order extra food if needed. I'd been anxiously awaiting to visit Fette Sau since I've been in Philly, and finally got the opportunity to go last night. What a disappointment. I'd heard so much about it - and wanted so badly to like it, but it wasn't meant to be. Upon arrival, you see the choices behind a counter, which visually, looked, for lack of a better word, unappetizing. The beans looked liked they'd been scraped all day, with a residual amount that looked 'leftover'. The ribs looked dried out, and they were. There were a few drumsticks that also looked dried out, but we didn't try those. To be fair, the brisket was lean and tender, but lacked flavor - no smokiness, no juice, no burnt edges - it looked like my Mom's sliced brisket. You walk up to the counter to order food and the bar for drinks and they'll bring food out to the table. For the 6 of us, we ordered the family BBQ set. The rib was delicious but it wasn't as tender and soft as I would expect. The spicy sausage was unremarkable. I wouldn't personally get the chicken legs from the happy hour menu. However, the deviled eggs were so delicious! It was creamy and there was horseradish mixed in. For the sides, the potato salad was not up my alley at all; it was super mustardy and sour. The coleslaw was also relatively sour but crunchy and refreshing. Broccoli salad was pretty standard, again more sour tones. Beans were flavorful with the burnt ends but personally too salty for me. My friend and I came to Fette Sau for happy hour. Their happy hour runs until 7pm which I appreciate. This restaurant is not a sit down and be served restaurant. You find a table and order at the register when you're ready and order at the bar for your drinks. They give you a number for the food runners to bring your food. Silverware and water you would have to grab on your own as well. It's a very interesting concept. The food was ok. We ordered the burnt end sandwich, mac and cheese, and deviled eggs. Everything was pretty mediocre. The chicken legs did need some more flavor. It was pretty bland so I would recommend eating it with the bbq sauces and vinegar on the table. The sandwich, deviled eggs and mac and cheese were pretty mediocre as well. The spicy slaw was the best thing in my opinion, spicy and vinegary. The drinks were also not the best. My friend had the old fashion since on Wednesdays they have $5 old fashion, and I guess you pay for what you get, she did not enjoy her old fashion. I got the peach which is a non-alcoholic drink and it was nothing special. The counter where you order is FLANKED with chalkboard menus of all the items available to order, including their prices. Why did we need to go sit at an empty table and stare at our phones instead of just going up to the real menu and ordering right off the menu and display case? I got a brisket sandwich, cornbread muffin, and coleslaw. The brisket sandwich arrived drowning in cheese sauce. You couldn't even see the brisket to appreciate if it was good meat or not. WHO DOES THIS?? The cornbread muffin was burnt around the edges and dry, also disappointing but more edible than the sandwich. The coleslaw is a "spicy slaw" which is all red cabbage, pickled beet red, made "spicy" with pickled jalapeños. Why can't any of those items just be made classic style? Why do you have to make them "unique" if you aren't gonna do it well? The ribs were beyond greasy and rather tough. I ended up eating half of the burnt ends sandwich my partner ordered bc it was not covered in cheese and the slaw on it was normal slaw. Literally the burnt ends sandwich appeared more lean than anything else we ordered, which is beyond backwards. As we ate, we watched a few other parties arrive and become visibly flummoxed at the "system" this manager was trying to implement of shooing everyone to a table and telling them to look at the QR menu before they could go order. I don't think we will ever come back here, to be honest. And I hate to say that because we live close by and have liked the place for years before the pandemic hit. Fette Sau has been in my list of restaurants to visit for a while so I was looking forward to eating there. First of all let me say I LOVE barbecue and recently had some of the best bbq every in Texas. I knew not to compare because how can you but wasn't expecting for it to be that bad. My husband and sister had the brisket which I tasted. It was just meat...no flavor. No bbq flavor, just meat. I had the brisket sandwich which seemed to be the best pick of all the meat dishes. I asked for the cheese sauce on the side and didn't use it all. I couldn't see it fitting with the sandwich and would have overwhelmed the bbq flavor that you'd want to taste at a bbq restaurant. The sandwich was fine but I've had much better brisket sandwiches (one being from some guy selling bbq on the side of the road). The sides, other than the deviled eggs, were terrible. We ordered the greens, mac and cheese, baked beans and potato salad. I don't know what I was thinking ordering these sides from there. Oof...just awful! The potato salad needs to come off the menu asap. It is large boiled potatoes tossed in vinegar, salt, pepper and who knows what else. The what else isn't enough to call it potato salad. It needs a lot of help or just mash them up and serve up some mashed potatoes. The greens and mac and cheese were the least awful but very basic. The baked beans were too thick and just not good so they went unfinished. Oh yeah, we also had cornbread. If it were warm and fresh it could have been good. The service was slow even though there weren't a lot of people in the restaurant and the bartender was too consumed with convos with his colleagues that he wasn't very attentive. I have never eaten bbq before and left hungry. We were all still hungry after we left (because we didn't eat a lot of what we ordered) that we had to go find something else to eat. Sweet was definitely for my palate. Most disappointing thing I got had to be the cornbread. It tasted quite flat. Like it's just bread with pieces of corn in it. I prefer mine to be a little sweet. Dessert was downright fantastic! My boyfriend loved the key lime pie. It's tartness was perfect. I thoroughly enjoyed the Mississippi Mud Ice Cream. Reminds me of rocky road, except not with almonds, but with pecans. Would come here again to try more of the menu! read more

Fette Sau's selection of smoked meats comes with plenty of smoke and sides and sauce that add that extra kick. A large group of us (15+) showed up on a busy Friday night and we were impressed with the host who manage to fit us in after a short wait. Ordering is done by walking up to a white butcher's case full of large, charred, cuts of meat and ordering a la carte off their rotating menu of local, naturally raised meats. Here's the rundown of my order: Beef Brisket: A good fatty, moist piece of brisket Beef short rib: I almost ordered two ribs but a good thing I didn't- the individual ribs looked like it came off a dinosaur! I was more than good with a single rib, meat flaked off the bone good! Pork Belly: A true highlight, really good balance between fat and savory and a real good smoke profile Jalapeno Sausage: One hot sausage! A good meaty texture but not a whole lot of snap Mac and Cheese: A jalapeno macaroni dish which offered the right amount of heat to mix things up Sauces: Comes in "Sweet", "Spicy", and "Vinegar" - all very accurate to their descriptions. Fette Sau is no secret to Fishtown so you can expect the place to be full and busy. BBQ, especially when you order a-la-carte, is always a little bit on the pricier side but when you find good BBQ you have to take note and Fette Sau hits that mark. read more

The service staff was great, the restaurant itself looks great and has a great vibe. The food, however, was not good. Our brisket was bland and the ribs made me very sick the next morning. It's a shame, because everything else about the place was 10/10. read more
