My favorite BBQ spot in NY! The food is amazing every time. Everything on the menu is full of flavor, the brisket and pulled pork were tender and juicy while the sausages had a nice snap to them. I definitely recommend getting the brisket and ribs. The ribs are a little dry on its own but goes great with their various sauces provided. Fette sau is located outside so dress appropriately for the weather. They have heaters in the winter and fans during the summer to keep things comfortable.
Bbq was good. No wait. Had the pork belly, brisket, ribs and sausage. Corn bread and Cole slaw as well. Side dishes were just meh. But I was there for the bbq. Staff was friendly.
Really solid BBQ, some of the best I've had in NYC (though still not as good as Texas BBQ imo) We got the smoked pork belly, brisket, and the bison ribs with a side of the broccoli salad. You basically walk in and just order your meats and sides via a counter and then find a place to sit, pretty standard for a BBQ joint. Everyone was super friendly and gave recs on the meats + sides, and I appreciated being able to sample the sides before picking. As for the meats: the brisket was pretty good. It was slightly less juicy and tender than I'd like, but definitely satisfies the craving. The bison ribs had great flavor but were really tough to get off the bone. It was also probably the most expensive in terms of meat per lb since the price includes the weight of the bone, so I'd recommend skipping this one. The real star of the show was the smoked pork belly. We were considering getting the pork ribs instead, but boy am I glad we got the pork belly - it was the best of both worlds. Flavorful and smokey, but still super juicy and tender because of the high fat content. It paired really well with their mustard BBQ sauce which was a bit acidic and helped cut through the fat.
Great bbq spot in Bedford :) There are some cute outside table and inside :) we were party of .. more than 10 but it fits perfectly and very chill with the cozy atmosphere. The servers gave up great suggestions and had amazing Shredded pork, pickles and everything. The special cocktails was delicious. Honestly I love their Potato salad lol I miss that already!! You should definitely check out!!
Very good meats overall and definitely digging the atmosphere here. I do recommend the brisket and spicy sausage, they're exceptionally juicy. Huge selection of beers, wines and cocktails to complement the meat sweat. Fette Sau is just a great spot to hang and enjoy a conversation. The staff is super chill and nice. Parking just like any other place in Williamsburg is a bitch. It's a hit or miss with street parking.
Weird. No line on a Sunday. Service is quick enough. Ambience is garage butcher shop. Dark with lots of wood. Maybe it was the combo of beer and food but the BBQ was underwhelming and disappointing in person, mainly from lack of flavor. Ordered most of the meat items and a good selection of sides. Wings were satisfying. Brisket was dry and lacking in flavor. Pork belly was decent and indulgently rich. A takeout portion of pork ribs showed me that the flavor is there. Maybe it was failure of the rack we happened to have in person. A takeout beef rib remained tough and over salted. Not exactly a full redemption. For the price, it's quite disappointing. In the decade that has passed since I last came here, NY's BBQ game has leveled up. The wider availability of BBQ basically removed the need for me to come to Brooklyn, with my last pilgrimages being Delaney BBQ and more recently Hometown BBQ. For a Manhattanite, there isn't enough quality to justify the effort required to get here.
The cashier was very nice and had a very pleasant attitude. That alone made me order $40 worth of food for lunch for one person. However, the food was a whole nother thing. For starters, the brisket was a bit fatty with no seasoning what so ever. I am a connoisseur of bbq and was expecting it to be on the lines of Hill Country (NYC), Hometown (Red Hook-Brooklyn), Meat Mitch (Kansas City), or Brad's BBQ (Oxford, Al) but it wasn't. I had the coleslaw and it was bland as well. The pork sausage was okay but was a little over cooked. The baked beans were not good at all. They were of the consistency of thick chili. Needless to say, I packed up my food and brought it home to give to my husband because I wasn't too pleased with the taste.
Have been meaning to come here forever but was always prevented because it used to be cash only. After hearing that they take card I immediately made plans to go with a friend. I already had a sense of how ordering works but the staff was great at explaining that meat is ordered by the half pound and sides are by the quarter pound. For two people we did three meats (beef brisket, pork ribs, chicken wings) and two sides (brocolli salad and beans). It was plenty for two people and we even had leftovers to take for the road. I preferred the ribs and wings to the brisket, as the brisket was a tad too fatty for my liking. Although if you plan to have a drink or two alongside your meal, it cuts the fat pretty nicely and makes for a good pairing. The beans were definitely the best out of everything. I made my way pretty much through the entire serving, even though I have ibs which says a lot. I just couldn't help myself! Brocolli salad was also a good choice since its citrusy and the acidity balances out all strong flavors from the meats. For drinks I opted for a manhattan followed by a smoked old fashioned. The manhattan was...very strong. Don't know if I'd get it again but the smoked old fashioned was great!
The BBQ is pretty good. Fette Sau has lost the hype it once held way back when and on a beautiful Sunday afternoon, there were no lines. Our group ordered a variety of meats and sides to sample. The meats were tender and juicy. We ordered the brisket, ribs, and sausage. The broccoli salad was a nice balance to cool you down and add roughage. There were large communal tables and benches and rolls of paper towels available. Solid lunch option.
I went on Memorial Day, but I called in advance as the hours on the website were different from the special hours posted on Yelp. No reservations can be made as it's first come, first served, and first seated. It makes sense. You come in through what seems to be the back open seating area. Go in through their entrance and have to line up to order food. Ppl usually have one person go up and order and reserve a seating area. But it's suggested that you get your food first. They're open for lunch and dinner normally. All the items on the menu aren't all available. You'll know when you arrive. When I went, we ordered the Berkshire Pork Belly, which tasted really good. I definitely recommend this one. The pork ribs were second best. The beef brisket wasn't that great, I wouldn't get it again. The only side that I got was the potato salad which is surprisingly dairy free, the Dijon mustard, onions, chives, and Yukon potatoes tasted great. It was a great addition to the meal.
My favorite is brisket and burnt end baked beans. The service is quick and efficient, you order what you want and they prepare it immediately. It is mostly outdoors and indoors do not have AC, only fans, so I would avoid coming here when it's crazy hot.
I came here to eat and loved the food. I felt like the name after I indulged in multiple types of BBQ meat heavenly treats. You must try this place. The ambiance is rustic and super casual. Shorts and a tee are perfect. The staff is super knowledgeable about all of their menu ingredients down to origins of beef raising and the manager told me all the animals are fed non, pesticide feed. I was very impressed. I also need a stop sink to shower after being covered in every amazing sauce know to man. You must try this place
Pretty good BBQ and probably as good as it'll be in NYC. The brisket was fatty and moist, the ribs were tender but a little dry and the pork belly was really tender. Everything had a nice char on the outside. Overall very good! The bad was the sides, which were a complete afterthought. Bland, boring and nothing stood out. Probably would have been best to just skip and stick with the proteins

The brisket was juicy and so tender, loved the ends for the flavor! They greeted me with a smile and i left with a smile. Loved sitting down at the bar, ordered a beer real quick from the server. read more
Honestly the BBQ here is a bit overpriced and not that good. There's nothing special about it though it's not bad either. The sauce is good and the sides were enjoyable, but at the price they're asking for you'd expect much higher quality and tastier meats and sides. read more

Cuisine: 6 Service: 7 Decor: 6 Value: 6 Overall: 6 Maybe it's the pandemic, because my last few experiences at this BBQ joint have been better. Unfortunately, the food was just not how I remember it to be. Bershire Pork Belly - very smokey, tender and juicy, but it was way too fatty. Black Angus Brisket - Smokey and tender too, but definitely was not juicy. St. Louis Style Pork Ribs - Looks really dry, yet tasted surprisingly good. Jalapeño Pork Sausages - I should have ordered one more of these. Potato Salad - nothing special Beans w/ Burnt Ends - quite good My friend and I both thought that the meal was average overall and not what we came here for. I hope to return again after these crazy times and find the restaurant that's in my memory. read more

It's a little hidden since there's no signage out front. The restaurant has a rustic and relaxed atmosphere, with its communal seating inside and outside in the front. Fette Sau specializes in slow-cooked, smoked meats, all prepared on-site in their custom-built smokers. The menu offers a variety of options, including brisket, ribs, pulled pork, and sausage, as well as classic sides like mac and cheese, baked beans, and coleslaw. I ordered the brisket, ribs, and pork belly, with a side of cornbread and collard greens. Every order comes with dinner rolls. The brisket (5/5) was tender and smokey, without being too overbearingly salty or smokey. The pork belly (3/5) was very salty and oily. The fat had been rendered off the pork so it was just dripping in fat while I was eating it. The flavor was a pleasant smokey-ness and what I expected. The salt and dripping oil was a bit much. Ribs (4/5) were nicely cooked, but a little chewy and not as tender as I'd like. Cornnbread (3/5) was very dense and chewy, not a pleasant experience with these. Even with the fatty pork belly, it was still hard to bite through the cornbread. The store-bought dinner rolls were way better than this cornbread. Collard greens (5/5) was great, nice and sweet with helped to complement all the salt and fats from the bbq. Overall, I had come in for dinner on a weeknight. I think their biggest challenge is that the bbq is premade and not to order. That leaves the meats to be sitting under the case for efficient ordering. I'd come back during the weekend when they would have more turnover in their foods, but for now it's passable if you're starving for bbq. Housemade bbq sauces are great though. read more

YES, YES, a thousand times YES! Went here for the first time this week & im obsessed. The staff was amazing and so helpful when it came to deciding how much food to get for me and my friends. The pulled pork was my favorite meat. The brisket & ribs were also delicious. The chicken wings looked amazing, I'll be getting them next time. The cole slaw was poppin & so were the burnt ends baked beans. Go ASAP!!! read more
Took my friend from Texas here and he acted dull. After one bite of brisket he got quiet and wide eyed. "That's really good." He said slowly. "I'm surprised." Don't be surprised - this is my favorite bbq place in the city. It's legit. $30 a pound is still reasonable. Sides are good too. Just good clean food. Love the digital fire place. read more

Best barbecue I've had in a long time! Each meat is sold by the 1/2 pound, which is more than enough for most folks. Highly recommend the pulled pork as well as the ribs, where the meat practically fell off the bone. My only beef (pun intended!) was with the cornbread, which could have been better. That is not enough to stop me from going back though!. The place is pretty much self-serve, so not much to say there. The place looks like it is a converted garage, and if you're not paying attention, you could walk right past it. Definitely looking forward to my second visit! read more

Nice location, tucked into a little alley which they use as their outdoor patio. They have a good selection of beers and liquor. They have general selection of meat, from ribs, wings, brisket and sausage. Now it is quite pricey but I guess it's also the location. Brisket is $15 for 1/2lb. Flavor is really good. read more
We came on a weekday around 6 p.m. and were blessed with absolutely no wait to order and grab seats. Hooray for the perks of visiting post-summer. The ribs were my favorite part of the meal. Smoky, decently tender, and they paired perfectly with some of Fette Sau's sweet barbecue sauce slathered on top. The brisket was also decently flavorful and not too fatty. The spicy pork sausage was fine, but sausage usually isn't my go-to barbecue item anyway. As for sides, the burnt ends baked beans were good, although I didn't see or taste the smoky bits of meat. The cornbread, on the other hand, was hard as a rock and very dry. The meal was fine but not particularly memorable, so $64 for two people was too hot for my wallet. I'm glad I got to try this place out sans the crazy wait times, and it's got a few good items for sure, but it's not really worth the hype in my opinion. read more
Barbecue is my favorite food. And once upon a time, the pickin's were pretty slim in NYC, and Fette Sau was one of the only games in town. Sure, there were Dallas BBQs all over, but I'm not talking about poorly boiled/roasted ribs with sweet sauce dumped over it, I'm talking about the real deal, meat smoked low and slow until it's the tastiest treat you've ever tasted. Well, times have changed and there's a few great barbecue spots in Brooklyn alone now. So for whatever reason (mostly geography), it's been probably a decade since I'd been to Fette Sau. Having come back in and demolished a giant platter with a couple friends, I'm happy to report they've still got it. If I had to judge by this one recent visit I would say it's no longer the best in town, but you won't be sad about running through some brisket, ribs, broccoli salad, the wings on special, and more. The smoked old fashioned is also surprisingly high quality cocktail, and pairs well with all that fatty meat. Go nuts. read more

THE BAKED BEANS SIDE DISH IS SO GOOD. I would even just order this as my main. It's got meat in it and the sauce is nice and tangy (better than the other sauces out on the tables). We got the beef brisket, pork shoulder, and pork ribs. I wish the ribs had more meat on them & the brisket was juicier. I appreciated how the server proportioned our meal for us based on the number of people in our party & the number of mains we wanted. On a Saturday around 6:30pm we waited in line for a good 30 min before we got to order. If you've ever been to Green Street Smoked Meats in Chicago, this place is basically that! read more

I'm so happily full from this place. If you love barbecue and meat, and are looking for a place not super Manhattan or mainstream, DEFINITELY check this restaurant out. I think this is a great place to go with a couple friends, so you can all share a tray. That makes the meal cheaper too, and you can try more meats and appetizers. My two friends and I split two appetizers and three half pounds of meat, and it was more than enough. We were all super full by the end and they also give complimentary rolls per person. The restaurant is a little pricey, so don't expect a very affordable mom and pop grill place, but I promise the barbecue is worth it, especially for Williamsburg prices. FOOD: Baked beans (5/5) - I could eat spoonfuls of this alone for dinner. These beans were the perfect pairing with the brisket sandwiched in a roll. The flavor was smoky, with a light tomato finish. So unique! Potato salad (3/5) - I actually didn't love this dish even though I like all types of potato. There was too much sauce on the potatoes and they were just a bit too sour. This dish is also kind of heavy paired with all the oily meat. Brisket (5/5) - This may have been the best brisket I've ever had. There was a perfect balance of lean versus fatty meat and the meat was so tender that the lightest touch of the knife sliced the pieces down the middle. The outer edge was just a little crisp and burnt. Order this for sure if you go. Ribs (5/5) - The ribs were juicy and tender, and fell off the bone. They were charred on the outside but still so soft once you got past the initial bite. Chicken (4/5) - I thought this dish was yummy but nothing particularly special. It was just your ordinary chicken drumstick dish, slightly spicy. We got the dry rub. read more
It's safe to say I know more about smoking meat than almost anyone in Brooklyn. So take my word for it - Jimmy and his team are the best in town. The brisket is melt in your mouth tender with a nice bark and so flavorful. The ribs are very tasty - not as tender as I usually like but they are perfectly seasoned and smoked so definitely try them. I should point out the last the only thing better than the food is the service. This team is amazing. Special shout outs to Dawnia and Jeremy but really the whole team is great. Fette Sau is one of my all time favorites. read more

Meat! Lots and lots of it. I think this might be the best bbq spot in NYC. Not sure yet, but for now it does seem like it. We had gotten a whole selection: cheeks, ribs, beef short rib, brisket and pork belly. Yum!! I enjoyed it all. One suggestion: is it possible to set up a table for people who have mobility issues? Although I was able to sit on the bench, it was hard to swing my legs in as I'm disabled. Otherwise, it was amazing! read more

As my tour of New York continued, I would have never found this BBQ joint if it wasn't for a New Yorker who loves BBQ as much as me. While we were waiting outside another BBQ joint, he started listing other BBQ joints in the NYC area. I made a list of them and Fette Sau was the one I ended up at by convenience of my location. I want to thank that guy so much because he directed me to one of the best BBQ joints I have had. Fette Sau was a little difficult to locate because on the street, there is an arch with the words "Fette Sau." That leads into what looks like an alley, but it opens up to an area with tables and wood. Finally, you will reach the indoors part where the counter and bar is located. There are several long tables so be expecting to eat in a community like setting. The wall had a huge picture of the different cuts of meat. This is definitely a dive! I go to the counter and tell the guy I came all the way from Alabama to try this BBQ. He appreciated that as I made my selection of a rib, 1/4 lb. pork, 1/4 brisket and baked beans. It came out to $31. Why is BBQ so expensive in NYC? Haha But it was worth it. This was truly Texas-inspired BBQ! All meats came with a housemade rub.The pork and brisket were tender and juicy. The brisket had a superior black pepper rub and good amount of fat to add to it's flavor. The brisket was easily among the best I have ever had. The rib was had a good rub and easy to chew. Beans were made with burnt ends for a smoky flavor. There are 4 sauces - sweet, vinegar, mustard, and spicy. All sauces are made with beer by the way, which I thought was unique. I liked all of them but the vinegar was my least favorite. It only went well with the pork. The sweet was a heavy ketchup base with brown sugar. The mustard was a solid sauce. But my favorite was the Spicy. It really wasn't very spicy but had more of a chili-like flavor and made with several different peppers. It was an unique sauce. I never expected to find exceptional BBQ in NYC, but that is what you will find at Fette Sau. read more

As a born and raised Texan, the chicken is actually pretty good. The homemade ranch definitely brings a spicy flavor to it however, for the portion size, eh. Again, I'm used to the cost of living in Texas so take that into consideration. It was $15 for a piece of chicken and five pickles. Would I come back? Maybe. Not pressed though. read more
