Had a great dinner and evening at Fernando's Grille. The service was very good and the food was excellant. We were six adults and everyone had nothing but good things to say about the experience. Thank you Fernando's! read more

Four us went here for dinner one night. The ambiance and table setting is nice. The salads were basic and OK. The break was a small, store loaf about 2" in diameter served with butter. Service could have been better but not horrible. I had the pork medallions which came out as two fairly large cutlets. Overcooked but with a nice char a sauce. The mashies were a bit tasteless. My wife's food was OK. This restaurant seems to cater to seniors, which we are not. Just saying.... read more

Picked up Thanksgiving takeout today. I usually cook and was afraid of being disappointed. I wasn't. It was GREAT. Loved the turkey, loved the stuffing, the mashed potatoes the veggies, it was all great. Desert was perfect. Hope they do it again at Christmas. I'll be there. read more

Great for lunch and dinner. Lunch menu is extensive. Been here a few times with coworkers. Seafood has been great. Soups healthy and flavorful. Nice place but I don't like their carpet read more

Fernandos is not going to let you down but they aren't going to wow you either. Great service and quality food. Portions are right on and the prices are great for the quality food they create. The decor is quite depressing though. If they liven the place up I'd probably head there more often. Still a solid H Town restaurant that has held its own when other restaurants went in and out at the same location. RIP Genovesee's read more

Went last night with our cousins again we had another great meal. Always good food, good service, they can't do enough to make you comfortable. Even when they are extremely busy. I highly recommend this restaurant if you are in the area. If you go early you have a lot of options on the menus. Regular menu, Early bird menu and specials. BYOB Aa plus. read more

Fernando's is a nice, quiet place to eat. Tonight I had the seared scallops with the tomato chicken orzo soup as a starter. Both meals were flawlessly executed by Fernando himself. The scallops were perfectly cooked. I'd strongly recommend this establishment for a first date with a lovely bottle of wine. read more

Zero stars if it were an available choice. I had a salmon dish with a distinct fishy aroma, partner had a shrimp penne with some unexpected broccoli. The menu is phoned in and shows a distinct lack of respect for the taste of any customers. Please go across the street in our town for much better, much more thoughtful fare at the same price. read more

Driving by local area looking for new restaurant to eat dinner & found this 4star rated on Yelp. Clean, nice decor, tablecloths. Fresh warm bread but would have preferred olive oil with dash of seasoning for dipping vs. tiny scoop of butter. Nice surprise, house salad consisted of spinach vs. no nutrition iceberg. Two pieces of chicken marsala entree were hard & dry but thank goodness for the great wine & mushroom sauce. Great presentation of Yukon potatoes but they along with string beans/carrots were room temperature which would have preferred hot. Overall not disappointed, will return. read more

Fernando's Grille - American Near Me - Hightstown, New Jersey

I have been here a few times and really love the food they make and serve. It is a small resturant that is upscaled dining, but still mostly casual on the attire. Great service and flavor here read more

Fernando makes beautifully prepared American dishes with something for everyone. We've gone three times and have been wowed every time; everyone I know who has gone there loves it. Don't miss the gazpacho and the sea scallops with sauteed spinach! Both the lunch and dinner menus are very reasonably priced, including everything from delicious $5 salads and great $8 burgers to higher-end cuisine. Fernando's will become a local favorite for sure, and hopefully lots of out-of-towners will come also! read more

Just went here for lunch with a friend. We ordered the crab cake sandwich and cheese steak wrap. Both came with either soup or salad and my friend got butternut squash soup while I got a Ceaser salad. Everything was delicious. Sometimes crab cakes can be dry but this was very flavorful. There was a slice of tomato, lettuce, and tartar sauce on the side. The cheese steak wrap was crispy on outside and you could see the warm cheese oozing out of the steak wrap. Seasoned well. At the end of the meal, they gave us a slice of chocolate moose cake on the house. That was also yummy even though I don't even like chocolate that much. I think this is a great spot to eat. read more

They get one star because the food was good, over salted but good. The service was horrible. The maitre d was rude to our party as was the hostess. The waitress after taking 30 minutes to take our order said "did you have a chance to look at the menu?" Uh yes we have it memorized. Our glasses were dirty and they turned the lights on and started stacking chairs while we were still there! It was a 7:30 reservation for which they didn't seat us until 8 and then started stacking chairs and turning the lights on at 10 pm on a Saturday night. Bizarre place I do not recommend. You can go to so many other places that will give you excellent service and "good" food. To me that's the fun of going out to dinner. read more

Mediocre at best. Food is inconsistent, but edible. The salmon comes highly recommended. The crab cakes, ribs, and chicken franches Is also recommended. The best thing on the menu, however, is the brownie sundae. It's a warm rich brownie with cold vaniella ice cream. The reason this place is a 3 star rather a 4 star is because of cleanliness. When we arrived, 2 out of the 6 glasses on the table were dirty. Then, when we got our water glasses, it was also dirty. Not sure if I'd come back. Maybe if I was in the area..... read more

My wife and I live nearby and always wanted to come here when passing through Hightstown. We decided to take our mothers here for Mother's Day and we made an excellent decision. The food was excellent, as was the service. We saw it was a BYOB so we brought along some wine and beer. They brought glasses, ice, and offered to pop the bottle (it was a twist off). I had the jumbo shrimped stuffed with crab meat. Yum!!! Mashed potatoes were also equally as good. My mom had crab cakes which came out as big portions and tasted great. The atmosphere was great, although the lighting could have been a bit brighter. Overall an excellent experience! My wife and I will definitely be back for more! read more

I brought my family here from out of town for my wife's birthday a few months back. Loved the menu and ambiance, but the food was just OK. Of the four or so dishes I tasted, none of it was really remarkable. Definitely not bad (especially for moderate price)--just not impressive. read more

I stopped in for lunch on a business trip. The service was fantastic, the gal was hustling as the place was pretty crowded. Nice lunch specials. I went with the Bacon blue-cheese burger and fries. Nothing fancy, just a great burg. I am picky on my bacon, it was very good quality!!! The fries were fresh and extra crispy, which I love. Parking is kind of weird, you have to drive around back. No biggy, just saying........ read more

Had a great meal here last night, it was my first time here. The food, service and atmosphere were all top notch. Everything we ordered tasted homemade and fresh. The icing on the cake is that the prices are very reasonable and the portions are generous. read more

This place is a great restaurant hidden in plain site on the outskirts of Hightstown. The mussel appetizer is a large portion and so good! Hubby had the chicken francaise and he really enjoyed it. One in our group ordered the ahi tuna and was very pleased. Everyone had nothing but praise for this place. Love that it's a BYOB. read more

Everything we had was delicious. The device was someone rushed but super attentive. The menu is very expansive and almost overwhelming. A bit pricey so it's not an everyday place to eat. I had stuffed some which was awesome. Everyone else I was with had some level of meat and they all raved. No room for apps for dessert so no comment there! Parking is ample in the neighborhood around the restaurant. read more

Amazing burgers! Byob. Chill out great restaurant with no pretentiousness . Loved it. Thanks, Yelp! ( we were just driving through)

Consistently great dining experience. Not only is the food tasty but the presentation is lovely as well plus wonderful, attentive staff. This is my third visit and they offer good value and an inviting menu. read more

One of my favorite restaurants in the area. The ceviche is excellent as an appetizer. The ribs are some of the best I've ever had. Great fish dishes. Pasta is really good. My nephews tell me the burgers are excellent. Services is quick and attentive. read more

An excellent lunch. Had an awesome chicken quesadilla which was light and flavorful even the spinach). Then, onto a chicken blt. A huge breast, lots of fries, and it was all very tasty. I'll definately be back. read more

First time there at this casual neighborhood spot. Thought it was a bit pricey for the portions and preparation quality. Felt like I was going to a diner. read more

Greeted as we walked through the door with a smile, the atmosphere was quite pleasing. We ordered one of the specials and a pasta dish. The bread was ok, the salads plain, but good. The entree, pork medallions were very good, cooked perfectly, still tender and a delightful sauce. The pasta was ok. Dried pasta, but I almost broke a tooth on a bone fragment in a piece of sausage. (It happens). The pasta was al dente, but the sauce was just ok. Portions are good and overall it's a decent value for your dollar. read more

New York strip was cooked perfectly. Yukon mash potatoes was delicious. Awesome service. Definitely highly recommended!

Amazing 15th wedding anniversary!!! Food and service was amazing! Presentation was beautiful!

Everything was delicious, from the Caesar salad to the homemade whipped cream for dessert. Prices are comparable to most other good Italian restaurants. Presentation is impressive, and the strip steak is enough for two or three meals! Definitely recommend calling ahead for a reservation though, even for just 2 people. It's BYOB too. read more

Another visit, but not as good. I had shrimp and they were dry. Probably overcooked a bit. No way I am giving up on this place because previous visits have been excellent. read more

I came in on a weekday and it wasn't busy. The service is great but the food is very mediocre. I ordered from the fix menu. The salad was not very fresh, entree and dessert were ok. Nothing particular is memorable read more

The most important aspect of any restaurant is its food and Fernando's definitely didn't disappoint! Everyone at my table was extremely pleased with all courses. The chilled red pepper soup was both unique and delicious. The mushroom bisque was excellent. The salads were good, including the tomato and mozzarella salade, which didn't benefit from the mountain of arugula atop the entire thing. Entrees were the strongest category. Seared scallops over spinach and rice with a grilled tomato on the side were perfect; the Panko crusted salmon (a special) was a winner; the blackened Mahi Mahi with Yukon mashed potatoes was outstanding despite the inclusion of a whopping handful of arugula that was a poor substitute for a vegetable side. The limoncello cake for dessert was awesome. The building appears very old and its interior design is reasonably appealing. Service was attentive with water refills and plate clearings at the right time, and Marcello, the hospitable operator checking on us once or twice. There were a few random hiccups that keep it from me giving it a perfect score. My reservation made the night before wasn't in order upon arriving, though they accommodated us just fine. The soup and salad courses came lightening fast, setting the meal off on a pace that is far too fast for such a fine dining establishment Fortunately, things were less rushed from the entree onward. I ordered soup first, then a salad, and a before I ordered the entree, our server asked if I wanted the salad as an appetizer -- I replied affirmatively, since a similar salad was on there as an entree salad with chicken, and I thought she was asking if I wanted it as an appetizer as opposed to an entree -- I was surprised to get the salad before the soup, and yet another person at my table properly got the soup first. My biggest peeve is that I was unaware that the restaurant is BYOB. I greatly enjoy BYOB restaurants, but considering that I was visiting from out of town, I had no idea. I did explore the restaurant's website beforehand, and if the fact that it's BYOB is mentioned on it, it's well-hidden. Typically when I make a reservation for a BYOB establishment, the person taking the reservation advises me accordingly, or at least asks if I've dined there before to know if they should advise. I realize that this small town restaurant surely attracts many locals and regulars who know the ropes, but my out-of-area telephone area code that was given when making the reservation should have tipped them off. Imagine our surprise when we were asked if we brought wine and when we replied "no," the wine glasses were quickly cleared. Fortunately, there was a store that sold wine a short drive up the same street, so I was able to duck out and get some. In advance of visiting the area and staying at one of the several hotels in nearby East Windsor, most who I sought advice from suggested that I'd have to drive 20-30 minutes to other towns for a good meal, when in fact, Hightstown was a mere 1 mile away and has both Fernando's and another appealing fine dining restaurant. read more

Food was decent service was mediocre. I had the filet mignon which was buttery smooth and the demi-glaze was really good not very kid friendly place however. definitely a place to come with a loved one. read more

Best restaurant in Hightstown (not that it's hard to do that). Food was great, prices were decent, and BYOB is a plus. Mushroom soup was amazing. Caesar salad was above average. Entrees were slightly disappointing because they sounded so unique, but I was generally very happy with it and would return in a moment. read more

We've been here quite a few times over the last couple of years and always look forward to our visit. Mainly because it's so darned consistent. The food and service is always good. We often go with a large group and you can get a large round table if you reserve it early enough. My only critique is that the menu rarely varies. That may be a plus, because the food is consistently good. But I'd like to see something new and inventive on the specials menu for a change. BTW, it's BYOB, which is a big plus in my book. read more

Excelente, my wife and I love this restaurant. The food and service are spectacular. I will recommend eye closed. Best in Hightsown.

We very much enjoy Fernando's any have for many years. I really can't understand the small handful of reviews that say anything less than very good about the experience. I have enjoyed more dinners at Fernando's in the last 8 years or so than I can count, 100 plus. Not every dinner has been the absolute best but what place can deliver that .. BUT not a single dinner has been anything less than very good. The mushroom soup is amazing, the bread is very fresh (homemade?) and very tasty. Although we not longer eat beef or pork, we have had some of the best steak and rib dinners at Fernando's before we changed. The crab cake entree, scallop entree, fish and chicken dishes are some of the best in the area. YES IT IS A BYOB! I can honestly say the service has not always been the best but never did I have such an off night that I felt the need to say something to Fernando or his brother Marcello. They get very busy and sometimes they probably get overwhelmed, it happens everywhere! I have a top ten list of area restaurants and Fernando's is comfortable situated right in the middle of the list! read more

Ok..so your hungry......Fernando's in Hightstown, NJ is DEFINITELY the place to go! No matter what you order....your taste buds will be singing with joy!! I think it's because they cook all of their food fresh.....and everything my Family has tried...they've LOVED! Their burgers are to die-for....( VERY high quality meats are used) they also have an AMAZING grilled pesto chicken sandwich that's...HEAVEN in a sandwich! The dinners are just fabulous as well! I, myself, am addicted to their Melon Talapia & Jumbo shrimp salad.. 5 stars ***** Staff is A ++++ ask for Shaun/Shawn if you can..he's the best EVER and such a sweetheart....accommadating your every wish! Warm/darker ambiance lighting ( makes you look good, lol) Music is jazzy/classical so you feel like your at the Ritz and can RELAXXXX! :) When dining in there's really no need to be all dressed up.....jeans will do too! Eitherway...you'll be served AMAZING FOOD and have an amazing time! Total 5 STARS **** when it comes to taste and service!! My ONLY negative is the parking...parking is on the side of the building and most of the time it's packed and you have to walk down a hill :( read more
