this place is a gem. Owned by 2 brothers: Fernando is the chef, and you will find Marchello up front. Service is very attentive and the ambiance is perfect for dining and talking. We have dined here many times, and am happy that my sister suggested this restaurant. Everything we have ordered has been perfect, and the pricing is more than fair. Check them out for their price fixed dinner menu. It can not be beat. From the filet, the ribs, chicken dishes to the Ahi Tuna, everything has been perfect. They are very helpful and will prepare dishes gluten and dairy free. Thank you Fernando and Marchello. read more

The food an service was excellent. We had the ahi tuna, the ribs, and the salmon. All were excellent as was mu ceasar salad and the exquisite desserts. All served by a delightful young woman. This is a gem worth trying! read more

Very good service. Mediocre food. We were promptly seated and offered bread and butter, which was very good. The caprese salad overall was good - the tomato, mozzarella and balsamic were very good, but the arugula seemed salty. I had the wild mushroom bisque and my wife had the house salad. Both were generous portions but neither tasted quite right. I had the NY strip and my wife had the filet. Both were cooked as requested and had good flavor. Mine was a bit tough, but the filet was tender. Both the mashed potatoes and baked potato were strangely devoid of taste. All dishes had an excellent presentation. The service was attentive but not obtrusive. It is unlikely we will return. read more

Food is always great. Wish they were also open for lunch. Best ribs I ever tasted and salmon is also great. His soups are all homemade

Excellent food & service for a welcome dinner the night before my son's wedding. The family style appetizers & entrees were delicious! Friends & family argued over the best dessert - the brownie sundae took first place! Marcelo was accommodating, kind and professional, as were the servers. A lovely evening was had by all! read more

Came here for a date night with my wife. We discovered one of the best secrets in Hightstown - Fernando's early bird menu (I believe from 5pm - 6pm and only on certain weekdays)!!! You get 3 courses for $22 per person! We had Cesar salad, mushroom soup, seared tuna, crab cake, flourless chocolate cake and key lime pie from this menu. We also ordered a steamed muscles appetizer which were fresh, flavorful and very well seasoned. Service was excellent, timely and the servers were very polite. Lastly, this place is BYOB so we were able to bring a nice bottle of wine, without breaking the bank. We will definitely be back here for more date nights! read more

(Huge note: it is BYOB!) The food is always delicious here, and the service is always amazing! They are very accommodating. There are great choices on the regular menu, and their specials aren't limited to just a couple dishes, they'll have at least 5-7 entrees for specials in addition to the regular menu--which is already plentiful and diverse. The food itself arrives on time with the rest of your table's dishes--and always tastes great. I've been here 5+ times. PS. The Mushroom Bisque is delicious :] read more

Went here one night for dinner after work. Overall it was okay. Staff was very kind and attentive. Food wasn't amazing but it wasn't bad either. Decently priced with daily specials. I had the portables and mozzarella tower for an appetizer and the grilled chicken a la pesto as my entree. It was good but I'm not dying to go back. read more

We've been going to Fernando's ever since they opened several years ago. The food is superb. Salmon was fresh and tastes great. Mahi Mahi was also high quality and cooked perfectly. Service is good. Friendly and professional. Highly recommended. read more

This would have been 4 stars but for the fact that the waiter abandoned us for 10 - 15 minutes after giving us the dessert menu. It almost seemed as if he gave all of his attention to a large group, perhaps regular patrons. Disappointing. Our food was very good. We started with shared appetizers of Tomato & Mozzarella and PEI Mussels and they were both terrific - the mussels were very good with plenty of bread to soak up the broth. All of our entrees were served quickly, and hot, with the exception of the Pork Tenderloin. I really wish that all the entrees were served at the same time. In addition to the Pork Tenderloin we enjoyed the Ahi Tuna & Shrimp, Sesame Tilapia & Shrimp and the NY Strip Steak. The aforementioned desserts consisted of Fresh Berries & Cream and Tiramisu. The berries looked a little beaten up and the cream was over whipped. The Tiramisu was way too sweet and didn't seem to contain any ladyfingers. The space is large but ambiance is lacking and the 4 high tops just inside the door seem really out of place. This place might warrant a follow on visit. BYOB is a plus. read more

We were lucky to have Santiago as our server. He was polite and well versed with great menu suggestions. Highly recommend Trying Fernando's for the quality and selection of food. Once again, food is excellent. Service is spot on. Always enjoy the evening when we go to Fernando's. Relaxing and priced right.

I was excited to try this restaurant after hearing so many great things about the food. However, my experience was less than stellar. Pros: I want to acknowledge the service I received from my server Marcilio (unsure if I spelled it correctly). He was friendly and accommodating and if this review was solely about him I'd give the restaurant five stars. But my pleasant experience here starts and ends with him. Cons: My friend and I ordered the stuffed shrimp, mashed potatoes and steak. The steak was not cooked completely and the mashed potatoes along with the vegetables were extremely bland. We tried doctoring our food up with additional seasonings to save the night but after a few bites we decided against it. We looked for our server and politely told him that we would like the check and we would be leaving shortly after because we did not like the food. Marcilio took the food and brought us the check. We left him a tip and as we prepared to leave the manager approached our table. He wanted to know why we didn't like our food when no one else complained about the food (his words). He proceeded to tell us just how much he hated wasting food and he couldn't understand why we didn't like the food because his chef seasoned it just right. His tone was extremely rude and quite frankly the conversation was inappropriate. To be clear, my friend and I never made a scene about the food. We were extremely discreet because we did not want to disturb the other patrons or embarrass the restaurant. The conversation with the manager was enough for me to NEVER return. I am so glad we made a decision to leave. We walked up the street and had an amazing experience at TacoRito for half the price, double the flavor and better customer service. read more

The 6 of us went to dinner and enjoyed ourselves. The steak with blackened pepper was 5*, the rack of lambs (2) were tasty, the 2nd steak was good and the scallops were awesome. The portabella mushroom tower app was smoky and disappeared quickly. The mussels fra diavolo (sp?) were my favorite and the fresh baked bread was perfect for dipping in the mussels sauce. The ambience is perfect for catching up with our friends and family. read more

We decided to take my FIL here Saturday after a play at MCCC for his 90th birthday.... there was just 4 of us - total. We had reservations for 4:30pm and called the restaurant to say we'd be 15 min late. We arrived at 4:45pm and we were eventually seated. It took a while for wait staff to come to our table. They came a couple minutes after 5. And would not let us order the early bird special menu as we were told we'd have to order by 5. We explained twice that we were seated at our table 4:45. Since we asked the 'second time' the waitress said let me ask my mgr. which they did oblige. (In all fairness). We ordered the eggplant parmigiana and chicken Marsala. Food was good and portions were just right. We also ordered salads and desserts they were good too. Cozy nice quiet restaurant --- w/BYOB. Will come back again. read more

I have been to this restaurant for both lunch and dinner. Reasonable prices for well prepared food. I enjoyed both of my meals. Service is excellent. Also, as a side note I work at an old folk's home in town and they were very willing to donate a gift certificate for our health fair. Never having been to Hightstown, NJ, my family was at a loss of where to eat. We drove up and down the main street of this cute little town multiple times until we finally laid our eyes on Fernando's Grille, promising good American cuisine. The entire family came away from this meal pleasantly satisfied. Here's the rundown: Ambiance: There isn't much to this restaurant. The walls are bare, the flowers in vases are wilting (however, you can tell the arrangements were once beautiful), and the bathroom wallpapering isn't complete. Furthermore, based off of the table arrangement with the multiple tablecloths and personal pepper grinder, one might expect the restaurant to be higher class dining, but the menu asserts otherwise. Food: The food was great - nobody was disappointed. Immediately upon sitting down, you are greeted with a piping hot loaf of french bread served with butter. Everybody at the table started their meal with Fernando's minestrone soup, which was a little bit misleading. It was not hearty enough to be considered minestrone - not enough beans, too many noodles. Regardless, the soup was still tasty. I ordered the quesadillas with blackened chicken as my meal and the entire table loved them. I strongly recommend ordering them for either an appetizer or as a meal. Other entrees included a vinaigrette salad with skirt steak (which was a little over cooked) and the cajun chicken wrap (which came with delicious french fries). Service: While our waiter wasn't all that knowledgeable about the menu or the restaurant's offerings, he was very nice and did an excellent job of keeping our Diet Cokes filled. All in all, if I lived in Hightstown, NJ, I would make a point of eating at this place at least once a month! read more

Manager very nasty. I was 4 minutes late and it took 40 minutes to seat my husband and I . There were many empty tables. We walked out. Don't go there. read more

Food is consistently good. They would get five stars if service was better. Our waitress, Jessica, rushed us through apps and entrees then disappeared (she's waited in us before, and always does this). Our water glasses were not refilled. Rushed dinner service and inattentive bus boys are the two things that stop this restaurant from being great. I'll continue to dine here though as the food really is fantastic. Mushroom bisque is a must! read more

Although the main entrees are very good, we head here for more casual food, ie- mussels for an appetizer and burgers. The other reviews are spot on- service is decent....the decor/inside is simple, clean, with minimal decor.....food is excellent. Crowd leans on the more "mature" side. read more

This restaurant never disappoints! Had a great dinner tonight, great stuffed shrimp and scallops. The Limmoncello cake was delicious.

ok so initially, i couldn't recall the meal I had at Fernando's... my husband assured me it was the salmon. still left me drawing a blank. then, voila! i happen to have the pics. yay! so!! cute place. cozy atmosphere. good service. had the salmon early bird, hubby had the chicken marsala. not bad. not entirely memorable (like, the whole forgetting the meal that i had there two weeks ago thing). i'd go back. maybe slightly over rated for what they're trying to be. but, a decent option for the area. that's my ten cents. read more

The owner of this establishment kept us waiting roughly 15 minutes when there was maybe six or seven tables available. With that being said he walked us to the table with a bit of an attitude, did not ask us if we need to glasses from wine or did not open up a bottle of wine. Fruit flies were all over the restaurant when questioning the owner his response was all restaurants have these flies. Food took way too long to come out and when it finally did come out the order was incorrect. Asking to speak with the owner he seem to be very agitated because of our request. We will not be eating at this establishment In the future. And we will tell all our neighbors and friends what a terrible experience we incurred. read more

Although I can't say I've been to every restaurant in the area, Fernando's is one of the best. It's a gem in the middle of historic Hightstown. First and foremost, it's BYOB. We started with the Prince Edward mussels as an app. They give an extremely generous portion in a butter garlic sauce that was so good, you could good drink it with a spoon. We both enjoyed the wild mushroom soup which had a very earthy yet smooth composition. Our entries were the spinach cheese ravioli and chicken (special) and the shrimp linguine. The ravioli was perfectly cooked and the sauce was so good, I asked for extra bread to scoop up the sauce. The shrimp linguine had a very light yet flavorful sauce with broccoli and very plump shrimp. For desert, we had the cheesecake which was your standard, New York style. Nothing to brag about but I'm not a big desert guy. All in all, I highly recommend you try it here The atmosphere is classy but welcoming enough for casual attire. It's definitely a new favorite of mine that I will be going back to soon. read more

Was looking for a place between Phila and N. Jersey and came across Fernando's and the good reviews it had. As it was a weeknight we had no trouble being seated and their menu had something for everyone. My dinner of steak plus potato was very good and the table shared a dessert which was an excellent way to end the meal. I docked them a star for service. Within a couple minutes of serving the food the waitress asked if everything was ok and then disappeared till almost the very end of the meal. Other than that I was very happy with our experience. read more
