We visit Cambria a couple of times a year and have walked past Fermentations every visit. Not this time and not ever again. For $5... yes folks, five George Washingtons..... 500 pennies.... 20 quarters, you can have a wine tasting..... 30 wines to choose from.... 5 samples. Reds, whites, ports.... yummmmmmers. OH... shit, you get to keep your glasses to boot! I have to admit, I am a vodka drinker.... not a frou frou wine snob. But today, I felt like I belonged in that store at that very moment. Our host was fabulous (Liz?) and we walked out with a couple of bottles. We drank an entire bottle watching the sunset on Moonstone Beach Drive. read more

Very upsetting to see a drunk wives matter cup sold at this store. The black lives matter movement is not something to joke about. Innocent people are being killed and not receiving justice in the form of punishment for their killers. It's absolutely disgusting and distasteful. I mentioned them being offensive to the cashier and she said they had received a complaint before and I see a yelp review below mentioning this as well. If you've ever been to Cambria you know there is not much to see or do. We went this past week and if we hadn't eaten lunch we would have been done with the town in a half hour. One shop that we really liked was this one. It had the usual wares for wine and cheese, but the prices overall were very reasonable compared to some others we visited. And they had a good selection with some little things we didn't find elsewhere. We picked up a nice wine opener for a relative that cost $9.95 there with a wooden handle and came in a wooden box. Some nice little wine class markers for parties so you know who is drinking what and a cheese spreader that was cheap, but unique. The salesperson who was there was very friendly and helpful. I would recommend a stop by this shop if you are going to be in Cambria. read more

On a sunny afternoon, we were strolling along the streets of Cambria. This town is full of down to earth folks and cute little restaurants and shops. Then I saw the sign, Fermentations, and thought it was such a cute name for a wine tasting room so we walked in. Tasting was only $5 for 5 tastings and the man who poured our wine was extremely nice. What I noticed about the wine tasting rooms we've visited today is that most people retire here and then do this as a side job for fun. No wonder they are so relaxed and happy! I told our wine guy that I am looking for a buttery Chard. It wasn't on the menu but he opened a bottle called Butter for me to try anyways. The wine was excellent and we had such a relaxing time chatting with him and wandering the shop. They have fun items like wine charms, cork storage vases and funny coasters. The vibe is totally relaxed and it was the perfect little wrap up for our afternoon prior to dinner. We love this place and come every time we get to Cambria. Seems like they always give us a two for one wine tasting coupon when we stay at nearby Cambria Pines Lodge. Very nice folks, and some good wine especially their chocolate wine! It's made with a touch of cream so it's great for dessert or just serve cold and enjoy anytime. We like sitting at the counter and sampling their Pinot Noirs -- and you can order a full glass if you find something you really like. On a recent November 2018 visit the lovely Sheri was kind enough to help our party of four enjoy all sorts of fun wines. Also tasted some nice flavored olive oils which made excellent gifts for those not lucky enough to make the trip. read more

This is a great spot for wine tasting. You can taste 5 wines for $5. You get to select your own from a sheet that they give you (which also gives you a place to write any notes or comments about what you sample). The staff is friendly and they are open later than other tasting rooms. I also loved browsing the rest of the store. They have a ton of cute wine gifts for the home or a party, apparel and a selection of foods for purchase to enjoy with your wine. Fermentations is heaven! It is absolutely a required stop every time I pay a visit to Cambria. This beautiful shop on charming Burton Drive is cozy and bright, and absolutely filled with wine goodies of all kinds. Belly up to the counter and tasting bar, and choose 5 wines to taste from their menu, which is always very well organized and accessible, and includes new tastes as well as reliable old favorites. The owner has always been very gracious in letting tastings be shared, and in revisiting wines a second time to help make a decision for purchase. And tasting fee is waived when you buy! Try a little of everything but do not miss the Electra Orange Moscato. Delicious and clean and sweet, I get at least one bottle on every visit. Another fun thing to do while tasting in this wonderfully low pressure environment is sample the food at a nearby tasting station. Pretzels and cubes of bread and set up for dipping into a wide variety of oils, mustards, marinades and even chocolates. On our last visit, I was bewitched by the ginger lime marinade, and BF succumbed to the honey truffle mustard. Being a frequent flyer of both Cambria and Fermentations, I finally joined their wine club with much enthusiasm! Now twice a year I will get a shipment of 2 wines, one of their yummy food items, and a recipe to tie it all together. I can't wait! Thank you as always for a wonderful experience! read more

If you're staying in the area, I would definitely recommend checking this place out. They have both red and white wines for tasting, and plenty of room - they are several tables inside, and a nice standing bar area for tasting. 5 tastes for $5, but if you are staying at Cambria Pines Lodge, ask them for tasting vouchers - we got two tastings for the price of one and one wine glass was included to take home :) The only wine that I didn't like was the Gewurtztraminer, which I usually love - but theirs was really sweet! Would've been 5 stars except for one thing. More on that later. Nice shop with large selection. Cool wine accoutrements. Reasonable $2 per taste (they request you do 5, but not a strict rule). Friendly and welcoming staff. Ok, back to the reason I'm docking 3 stars. Some of their bottle prices are double, or more, than what you'd pay at a Total Wine or similar. Do your own comparisons. A couple examples? Check the prices for Troublemaker (by Austin Hope) and Silk & Spice (from Portugal) on their menu. Then check what you may pay elsewhere (easy to do while you sip their wine). If you want or need the bottle now, maybe you pay the extra. But if you're traveling or taking the wine home for later enjoyment, why spend/waste the extra money? I definitely don't mind spending money, but I hate needlessly wasting it. Unfortunately, I didn't do my due diligence until it was too late. read more

Excellent wine tasting! Fermentations is actually a wine store with tastings of local wines (not a winery). This is great because they pick and choose the wines that are really great. $1/pour, unlimited pours, and they are dangerously heavy-handed. The guy pouring wines was so friendly & generous, and we had good conversation. He seemed really knowledgeable about the wines and was good at steering people toward the ones they would like. We bought a bottle of the truly excellent Last Light Pinot Noir, a bottle of Aria bubbly, and a $4 wineglass with their logo (very nice crystal glass by the way, though logo was partly rubbed off). They also carry a selection of metal wineglasses and cocktail glasses, which is pretty cool, and other trinkets. read more

Very impressed with the tasting selection - which rotates often AND is only $5/5 tastes. Let me add that you have about 25 wines from which to choose!!! Keith was great at helping we choose wines but for the most part I let him choose and did not leave lacking. And he was entertaining! While I did not peruse, they also have a huge bottle shop, multi-bottle discounts and will ship bottles home for you. A MUST stop! read more

Time well spent in this boutique wine shop. Lots of goodies for the vinophile. Selection changes all the time. Today's pouring was most impressive with reds, whites, sparkling, dessert and oddball wines. Purchased two bottles of olallieberry (sp) wine. Very tasty stuff by itself or with sparkling, mixed. We tasted at 20 wineries around the Paso area and found this to be one of the most interesting, because they were not pushing one winery, but rather had offferings from 10+ locations. The more I visit this place, the more I like it. It has expanded over the years and now serves as a kind of "Cheers" for the community. Fermentations is a super small wine store, but it also offers a wine tasting at their bar for just $5 to try 5 wines. Since we're not big wine drinks, my mom and I actually decided to split one wine tasting and it was the perfect amount for us. And the best part was that you get to keep your wine glass at the end- and it's not made of that cheap glass stuff that you often find at Ikea. Their sweet wines were pretty good, but I sad that I wasn't a big fan of the champagne that michelle obama really likes. They even had an ollalieberry wine- Ollalieberry seems to be big in Cambria. read more

I love Frementations! It is what I call a very well equipped wine boutique. They offer wine tastings for $5. You choose five wines to taste. However, the menu is so elaborate you'll want to try much more than five! I ended up walking out of there with a case of wine of multiple varieties. Some of my favorites were the Oallieberry Wine, Orange Muscat, Chocolate Wine, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir and the Zin. They really have a huge selection and I can imagine there is something there to enjoy for every palette. Frementations also sells an impression array of wine related gifts, supplies, trinkets and art. In addition, they sell fresh jams and olive oil that you can sample. My beau let me pick out my favorite piece of art and I selected a handmade bronze sign that reads, "Love the wine your with." I can't wait to hang it in my kitchen! You'll love this shop and must put it on your list of things to see when you visit Cambria. read more

I was excited to try Fermentations after all of the positive reviews but was sorely disappointed in the service. Walked in on a Saturday afternoon, there were two women working and no other patrons. One women acknowledged us when we walked in but then went to talk to her coworker. We stood at the bar for 10mins while they talked to one another, watching a video on the phone, and never asked if we were interested in a tasting or offered service. We thanked them, which they barely acknowledged, and walked out. If this was my business, I would not want these people working for me. Absolutely terrible customer service. read more

I'm so sad that this wine shop deeply disappointed my expectations for the friendly hospitality that Cambria usually has to offer. My family visits every year and we always look forward to having a relaxing trip. We arrived at around 7 and decided to walk to Fermentations to get a bottle of wine to enjoy for the night. Upon arrival, my father sat at the bar and was informed that it's too late to do wine tasting and that if he was interested in a bottle of wine, the gentleman (I'm guessing the owner) would let him try some. Not only was the gentleman rude and short, repeatedly asking "which one?" with an impatient attitude, but after 2 samples he crudely asked "are you going to buy something? Otherwise I don't have time to serve you." Mind you, he only had 3 other customers in the shop. He also repeatedly said in a loud and passive manner "I'm supposed to be out of here by 8pm" I understand if you are near closing or if your customers are in need of your assistance, but that is no reason to forego all standards for customer service or even common decency. He could have kindly told us he was closing up and we would have happily left. After the gentleman said that, we walked to Madeline's restaurant and wine shop and despite their dinner rush, they were able to assist my father with countless wine samples and an array of information and backstory behind each wine. I would gladly come back to Madeline's--in fact, we made reservations for dinner tonight! read more

They do not make their own wine, but provide a tasting of the wines within the area. We also had a chance to taste some yummy olive oils, vinegar, sauces, and marinades. Go there just to get a taste of what's available. They will not push you to purchase anything. However, all the wines were very reasonably priced. Cool wine accessory and gift store, they also have wine tasting in the store. The wine tasting is mostly local wineries in and around the Central Coast area. I wasn't thrilled with the quality of wines, but the employees were friendly and pretty knowledgeable about the local wines. The tasting wasn't cheap considering the quality of the wines...$25 for 5 tastes, but for an extra $2 you got to keep the glass, which was pretty nice! They had some "cute" wine accessories according to my sister and my mom. I would probably try another place for wine tasting in the future to see if they had some better quality wines. MY GO-TO DISH: My favorite was probably the local Pinot Noir, Caturzzalo*** not sure of the spelling. read more

We really enjoyed Fermentations. It's this great little wine shop with everything from wine art, cheese boards, decorative cork containers, snacks, mustards, vinegars, wine accessories and postcards. The tasting bar (don't plan to take a seat, there are none, but you can browse the store as you taste your wine) is to the right of the store and many varieties of wines, both white and red, dessert and sparkling, are offered. The tasting fee is only $5 for your choice of 5 of maybe 20 wines offered. My husband and I did our own tastings (but shared) and tasted 10 wines, and the lady at the bar allowed us to try 2 extras...a Syrah and a chocolate/red wine blend called Chocovine, which was amazing! The glass is also included in the $5 tasting. We decided to pick up a Tobin James Sparkling Wine that knocked our socks off and my husband went bonkers for the Zinfandel Mustard and Fig Lemon Balsamic, so we bagged that up, too. We can't wait to go back to see what new things they offer. What fun! read more

Cambria is fast becoming our first stop when the GF and I travel to the Paso area. This charming little town has a charming little wine shop and since we were eager to do some tastings in general, in we go. Most of the merchandise was your run-of-the-mill wine stuff. The signs, cups, glasses and so on. Nothing really jumped out at me while looking around. There was a lot of foods I wish I could have gotten, but next time for sure. As far as the service, that was great. Friendly, helpful and most importantly, imformative. They did have a healthy selection of wines to choose from. I'm sure they rotate the selections, so I wont got into detail on what we tasted. The stand out wine for the GF was a chocolate wine. Yup, you read that right, chocolate. I tasted it and hated it.
