I have been to this salon a bunch of times and it's always hit or miss. Each person seems to be very inconsistent. I went in this weekend to get dip nails with tips, right when I walked in I was approached by a new employee, a young man. He stood over my shoulder pressuring me to choose my color quickly and when I showed him a picture of nails I wanted from feminails yelp pictures he told me he could not do it. I asked for coffin shaped nails and the shaping came out horribly. Also, when i asked him to file them down to fix the shape he got very defensive and yelled at me "why?!" instead of just doing what his customer wants. I paid $40 for nails I hate and awful customer service. Definitely going to be trying a new salon. read more

Their prices are reasonable and their staff is very friendly I have had some designs done on my nails and the latest design was very intricate. (I wanted something specific for an Italian festival). I've been a regular at Feminails for awhile now, and was pretty happy with my service until my past 3 visits. Last week I called for an appointment as usual, I arrived a few minutes early and realized there was absolutely no way I was going to be seen at my appointment time, it was packed in there. I waited 20 minutes after my scheduled time, and walked out. My visit before there was also a disaster, the gentleman that works there was so rude to me because I wanted to do regular polish instead of my usual gel polish. I had to tell him 3 times that I didn't want gel, and after he realized he wasn't going to convince me he gave me the cold shoulder the rest of the time. On top of that the past 2 pedicures have been the worst I've had! On to the next one! read more

I went to Feminails for a third time mostly because it's so close to where I live. As the previous times I got a pedicure there, it was dirty. And I was given a male nail technician without even being asked first if this was ok with me. He was ok but I would've appreciated having a choice. I asked what the cost of a French tip was and wasn't told until the bill was tallied - at an expensive price. How convenient. My manicurist was rough handling my hands , at times it was literally painful as she turned my hands to get at my nails. An iron grip. The nail filing she did was unnecessarily rough. The tiny drill they use to even out nails was extremely uncomfortable and even painful at times. " Beauty hurts " but not that much ! Her work was punctuated by a rolling dialogue in Vietnamese complete with lewd gestures from the other technician towards her crotch. Usually pretty obvious when some one is being rude about you in another language. Will never go back. Not for " waxing " - an excruciating experience by the way. No matter how nice they are to your face, true character always shows through. read more

All I wanted was a simple coffin nail shape but instead I got tic tac nails. Unless you want a tic tac looking nail, I would not recommend coming here. Service here is awful! read more

I had an extremely unpleasant experience here. My manicurist that day,Wendy, was rude and extremely inefficient. She had no clue about anything related to hands or feet. My nails were crooked and after she was done, I noticed that each nail was bumpy. On another day when I did my pedicure, even her pedicure was terrible. I could hardly feel her hands. And she would respond rudely making me feel like I know nothing about nails and she's some goddess! And then she would mutter things under her breath! It disturbs me when people don't like feedback - I mean wouldn't it help then improve? And wouldn't it - in time- make them your go-to person? And above all, nail jobs don't come cheap and neither do the tips cos I am known to tip very generously. This place is only good if you like some simple color and don't mind them sanding down to last layer of your nail. They do amazing pedicures always, but I've never had ANY consistency with my nails and have a hard time understanding where the rave reviews come from. I've been going for 2 years here and there and then every 2 weeks for the last 6 months or so because it's closest to me. I've been so sick of the lack of effort the last few times. We're all busy people but at least give me effort if I'm a paying and loyal customer. I never cared much and just got 1 of 3 colors in the past but ever since I've started asking to add length with tips and full sets, I've had a problem no matter which nail tech does my nails. I have 2 favorites because they take direction and instruction before doing anything but even those have left me with 3 different shapes of nails or specs of colors everywhere. Majority of the techs are not so great outside of them. The last month or so (2-3 visits) there's been a sizable mistake including a giant black speck (which she didn't fix after I asked) and didn't sand 2 of my nails after rebuffing so they set my dip powdered nails and 2 were left dull and scratched beneath the surface. I pointed it out and she told it's not visible then rushed me to the dryer as her next appointment sat down. Most recently I got my tips removed and got a plain manicure. This woman I've never seen before but she sanded my bare nails down repeatedly until they all hurt to touch and I pulled my hand away several times before asking her to just gently file them. I decided to review because it's now been over a week and my nails are still tender, flimsy and broken at all ends which I've never experienced before. read more

Do not go here! This place should be shut down by board of health. I saw it had good reviews on google maps but know those must be fake. The salon is dirty, my nail technician left my thumb bleeding like crazy after cutting more than my cuticle and all of their equipment is super outdated and filthy. It's really dangerous to be cutting people, having them bleed, and then use equipment that I have no faith will be cleaned properly. If I could give 0 stars I would. read more

Sarah came very recommend to me but I am so disappointed with the service. Sarah seemed very impatient and even snapped at me a few times saying I can't find the color you have in the picture go find it yourself. Well if you didn't have the color you could've just told me and I would've picked a different one. I changed the color and went with the the navy and she told me she could do the design in the picture but when she started doing she realized she couldn't do it and kept getting rude with me. Went there for the 1st time 2 months ago and Jenny did my nails(pink) I loved them so much so that I came back to see Jenny again she was booked so I got placed with Tammy. Tammy did an ok job on my eyebrows gave me a great pedicure but the nails I was not pleased with. They were very thick and she struggled with the design she tried though (see pic of blue nails) Anyway I would still suggest this place and I'm going to go back to see Jenny again and I would also recommend Tammy pedicures. read more

Best nail salon I've ever been to! I started going last year when a friend recommended it, and I haven't been to another salon since. I use dipping powder with tips and their prices are unmatched. Christine and John (the owners) are incredibly talented and sweet. They always make time for me, even once when I came in 30 min before closing Christine saw my broken nails and stayed open late to fix them. I've been here twice, and after my second visit I remembered why I didn't want to go back, the place is EXTREMELY UNSANITARY. I saw them rinse the nail instruments in the dirty pedicure water and place it back in the sanitary bag. I'm sure they're trying to be incredibly quick and cost effective so instead of cleaning out the pedi tub, they gave it a quick squirt with the hose as they were wiping it with their hand; and immediately had another client sitting and soaking. I was mortified. During the manicure, I was asked to wash my hands, the smell of mold was overwhelming, and you can see the pipes starting to oxidize which clearly states leakage! If the board of health ever went in, this place would be shut down. Also, the gel manicure started to lift four days after. DISLIKE! I just want a great Spa in Waltham where I can relax, and not be disgusted by everywhere my eye lands. Why is this so hard?! read more

Feminails, although it has a catchy name, is not a very clean place to get your nails done. I made an apointment, arrived early, and still had to wait past my scheduled time. It not only took forever, but the final product was not even close to being fantastic. My nails kept breaking and I personally feel I wasted my money. This place is a little pricey as well. I'm sure they do fabulous pedicures, but I noticed they didn't clean the tub thoroughly, so I wouldn't trust it. I'm sure the board of health will be clearing this problem up soon. read more

When I asked to fix it, the guy started chipping it off with clippers and cut my finger, so I started bleeding.. no "I'm sorry", nothing.. just kept going.. Feminals is a great place for nails! i go to this salon at least once a month to get my nails done, and get great person service. i recently had my whole bridal party go get thier nails done the day before my wedding, and they accomodated all 20ish of us very nicely. the owners are very nice, and have always greated most people that walk in thier door on a first name basis. i would avoid the younger guy (not John) that works there. everyone i know that has had him, hates him, and says that he hurts. a lot. read more

We made an appt for mani-pedis, 3 of us, for 6:30. They told us to pick a color and then we'll be helped. At 6:55 they had already taken 3 people in front of us, and we were all still waiting! We didn't get started till a little past 7. Although I do enjoy the massage chairs and what not, she also rubbed my sore tired feet and calves for a good 10 minutes. She apologized profusely for being late, and explained to us the situation. It seems like, going by the other reviews, they have a problem with punctuality. They didn't clean the tub after the previous client had sat there! Spraying it with cold water does nothing but move the grime around. She did make me bleed a little during my mani and put that liquid on it spot that made my entire ARM ache. And repeated "pain now, no infection later". Hmmm.. I'm a stickler for time, and I rarely get to enjoy a good mani-pedi with the girls. You also have to have cash for the tips, you can't put it on your credit card. And it's Moody st, you will very rarely find parking, we actually just walked from our friends house 6 blocks away. I don't think I will be returning, there are so many other shops out there! I have been going to feminails for years now. The owners are very nice and friendly and so are their staff. I usually go here for manicures and pedicures. However, in last years when I use to have fake nails I would come here to get my full set and refills. The space is relatively small, but they have recently opened up a second section just for pedicures and waxing. If you are looking for a place that is on the cheaper side and not high end or fancy then you will do just fine here. Miley, Seven, or Anna Would be the 3 people I would recommend the most to see! I initially tried this place out because they're one of the few TANNING salons that are open on Sundays. The tanning experience is so-so. Prices are average, rooms are very basic. Finally, I tried the mani/pedi experience and I'm VERY happy. I have had my nails done (polish on toes, French-style shellac on hands) by Anna and Christine, and they both do excellent work. The pedicure includes a massage with hot smooth rocks, which is one of my favorite things. The shellac manicure actually lasts a full two weeks, which is a feat considering I'm an athlete and a clutz. I like that they have a TV so you have something to look at while they do your nails. My only disappointment about this place are: the bathroom area is very run-down and the decor overall is very basic. A curtain separates the back room from the salon, so you can smell the workers' food cooking. If the basic/outdated decor etc helps them keep their prices reasonable, I guess I'm on board for that. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. They will help you to put on your coat and even your winter hat. They're very sweet here and do great work. read more

I had a complete Seinfeld moment at this place . My nail bill came to $27 and I gave her $100 bill, she gave me change of $70 meaning she kept a three dollar tip out for herself. I had already tipped her on the table more than generously and had I known she was going to do this I wouldn't have left so much. My initial reaction was to take some of the tip off the table but she was staring right at me! It reminds me of this episode where George left the tip in the tip jar and the person behind the counter didn't see him do it and he wondered if he should take it out and retip when so he did. Is it kosher to be a tip reneger? So she basically gave herself a 27% tip and it was paid in cash so you know they're not going to claim that shit. *update: the gel manicure that was supposed to last 2 weeks started peeling off in 2 days, so I called and they had me go in to redo it at no charge. The woman doing my nails did not take her time, and when I pointed out my uneven manicure she was short and annoyed with me. I have been going here since before the current owners - since college - 19 years. They're wonderful. And I'm picky. They are sanitary, not sure what Jae who reviewed earlier is talking about. They sterilize their tools every time they use them. They have the sets in their own sterile bags and you can see they take the bags out of the sterilizer while sitting across from it on the comfy seats. Women are super courteous as are he owners John and Christine. Their prices are extremely reasonable. I've had gels, acrylics and regular manicures there. All the manicurists are good and consistent. I have had my favorites of course but with attrition I have found that seeing new people isn't so bad. I avoid going anywhere else. I'm absolutely disgusted with how unprofessional the nail technicians are at this location. I've been 3 times and never will go back. The nail technicians are rude and cannot do acrylic nails. I have a lot of lumps in my nails and the design is horrible. They leave nail polish all over ur hands and don't clean around your nail. I was yelled at by nail technicians and customers because I complained about the poor job that was done to my nails. I still paid $40 for a gel refill and left a tip.
