This place was recommended by 3 different people so we decided we had to go for our last meal In Rome. We were a little disappointed when we called for a reservation and they could only take us at 10:45 on a Wednesday evening. We got there early and let them know we had arrived and the hostess said "not now!" We waited and they sat us right next to the front door. We ordered caccio e pepe and the alla matricana, both were great. We wanted meat balls and grilled vegetables, but both were sold out. There wasn't to much to choose from due to the time. We had there "meat loaf" and a beef roll In tomato sauce. I was looked At like I was a fool for ordering the meatloaf, even tho the waitress recommended it. The waiter presented it and said in an American accent "meat loaf" the locals looked and had a laugh at my expense. We also noticed the two hostesses stood at the front all evening and joked and laughed, seemingly at the patrons as they arrived and left. The tiramisu was amazing. My husband and I stopped in for dinner as soon as they opened; early by Italian standards. At first, the owner told us they were booked. But after asking his employee, they said we could have a table for two as long as we were finished within the hour. We took the table, and the meal was nothing short of fantastic. For my wife's first trip to my native country, I carefully selected all the hotspots of my city. The cook of this restaurant taught me how to make Carbonara and Amatriciana at Gambero Rosso, and I wanted to give it a try. I had to book several weeks in advance from the U.S., and despite of that, we had to wait a little bit. Not a big deal when you know that in Italy could happen really often. Tonnarelli cacio e pepe was really good, and my wife had her first amatriciana in Italy. It was really nice to hear form her that mine was much better, but overall we were really happy. Special mention to the fact that Roberto Benigni showed up to eat meatloaf, and my wife did not want to bother to ask a picture or an autograph. What a night! read more

We went on a Monday night expecting we wouldn't have a problem getting in, however the place was packed so make sure to make a reservation I think we got one of the last tables and were quite lucky to do so. We ordered the famous cacio e pepe, it was excellent! The only thing we were disappointed about was that we ordered one instead of two! It is quite a unique experience they mix the dish right on your table. The main dishes we ordered were both great too, roast lamb with potatoes ( to die for) and a beef roll in tomato sauce. Best to make reservations. Food was impeccable. My only dislike was the smirky server who looked like he would rater be anywhere but. We tried the lamb and Cacio e pepe (prepared table side). This restaurant was a little hard to find, the taxi driver tried to take us to another restaurant, but we insisted on finding this one. We are glad we did. It is a local Italian restaurant, which is fantastic. The Cacio e Pepe pasta is fantastic as is the Carbonara pasta. The Cacio e Pepe is the favorite dish as it is made table side. My husband and I were traveling through Rome a few weeks ago and decided to stop for one last nice Italian meal before our flight home. We stumbled upon his place because we were staying at a place across the street. We were glad they could seat us without a reservation, however, our experience was not pleasant. First off, we were seated in what my husband called the "foreigner corner". The couples around us we could tell were also not from the area. Our waiter was incredibly rude and made us feel terrible so many times. My husband and I were so uncomfortable and anxious to get out of there from the minute we sat down. We weren't very hungry so we each ordered the artichoke bacon fetticini and the waiter gave us a hard time about not ordering a "meat" with our pasta. I know that's how Italians normally eat but we can't eat that much and I hate wasting food! Then he gave us a hard time about not ordering a bottle of wine. He made us feel so bad that my husband agreed to order a glass of wine which we were still given a hard time about and he couldn't believe that I just wanted water. Then, I started getting full and was worried about not finishing my plate so I switched plates with my husband so he could work on my portion for a bit. Well, my plate was empty and my husband tried to finish mine but left maybe 1 or 2 bites and when he went up to pay the check the waiter came and asked me if my husband didn't like his dish. I tried to explain that we were full and that it was good but he wasn't listening. The tiramisu sounded so good and I wanted to get it but we were both so anxious to get out of that horrible experience. This place had such high reviews I was really excited to visit. Also I really liked the look and feel of it once we arrived, so that just doubled my pre-meal excitement. On the plus side, our server was very nice and gracious. The two stars are mainly for the food. I'm a big fatty and was super excited to be in Italy, so I got 2 pastas! The cacio e pepe and the amatriciana. Both were just so so, nothing blew me over at all. My boyfriend ordered a different pasta dish (I can't recall the name) and his was close to inedible, it was just drowning in oil. We did enjoy our wine and I thought my boyfriend's breaded veal was pretty good, but again nothing that stood out. I was also disappointed that many things on the menu were not available that night, including Roman style artichokes, which I was dying to try in Rome! All in all I've had much better pasta here in NY sadly, but I will give 2 stars for very nice service and cute ambiance. read more

In Roma, a family run trattoria with too-bright lighting usually means the food will be extraordinary and Felice a Testaccio does not disappoint in this regard. Cacio e pepe, which the waiter tosses tableside, is made with a home-made, wiggly, eggy pasta called tonnarelli (spaghetti alla Chitarra) which is square instead of round in cross-section and cooked perfectly al-dente with a nice chew. The butter, olive oil, starchy pasta water, and Pecorino Romano melt together to make a silky glue that sticks to the pasta making every mouthful pretty much perfect. Fresh cracked black pepper adds a kick to the dish which is typical of the Lazio region and can be found in almost any trattoria here is rarely seen anywhere else in Italy. It is not my favorite Roman dish (pasta alla carbonara is) but it is worth a try and Felice a Testaccio does a particularly good version of it. Service is friendly if a bit brusk. It was difficult to attract our waiter's attention when we needed things (more water, more pepper, more wine). The Roman style artichoke-a giant heart with the stem attached, shaved of all scruff and steamed-was deep olive green and so richly packed with artichoke flavor that I woke up thinking about it the next day. My wife had an assortment of grilled seafood which was simple and good (although the seabass was a bit overcooked and dry at the thin end), while my Saltimboca alla Romana was delicately flavored, perfectly sauced, but just a bit tough. I am not a Tiramisu devotee but it is famed to be great here, so we split one and, even with high expectations, it delivered. Served in a lowball glass it was velvety like a perfect custard with a small, crumbly cookie inside, subtle in flavor and not overly sweet. My wife thought it was the best she had ever had. Felice a Testaccio is worth the long walk from Centro Storico in fine weather or a 20 mins. taxi in the rain, but not if you are looking for a dimly lit, romantic venue. Too bright, no music, simple trattoria style decor. Come here to eat, Roman-style, and you will probably be very happy as we were. *It is a bit on the pricey side for Trattoria fare. read more

AMERICANS DO NOT EAT HERE!!!! I don't normally write negative reviews but this place was horrible. The food is average for a place in Rome but what really drove me nuts was the service of the leadership. The waiters themselves were nice guys but the head woman/lady was beyond rude to my wife who is fluent in Italian to the point that we almost left if it had not been my mother-in-laws birthday. I just don't understand how people can be beyond rude to their customers especially when there was no specific reason except that we were American. Then after dealing with the first wicked witch of the west you have to deal with their wannabe wine sommelier who is almost as bad as her partner in crime. We had literally been in Tuscany two days before where Chianti was invented and this lady had the nerve to say that not all Chianti Classico wine should have the black rooster label(she is wrong) and this was after she insulted and argued with both my wife and my mother-in-law again! Needless to say I'm not on the best son-in-law list after taking her to this place. Their only saving grace if you can count it is there dessert is awesome but let's be honest it's Rome, you can find great desserts on every other corner. Maybe if you know someone here you will have a better experience but at the end of the day when a restaurant wants to judge me because of where I am from (even though both my in-laws and wife are European) then they don't deserve my business or YOURS!!!!! read more

At a friends recommendation, our American party of 6 went for dinner. We did have reservations and were immediately seated and given 5 menus. Several minutes later we received the 6th menu, and after 1 minute were asked by our waiter Emanuele what we wanted for dinner. He seemed upset that we were not ready and walked away as we asked for a wine list. We had to re-ask later when he returned as asked us we were ready to order again ( we were not). At our request, he recited the specials and immediately asked us what we wanted. It was a Wednesday and the menu lists the specials for each day of the week. One member of our party asked for 3 different "Wednesday" selections and was told by Emanuele that they were not offered today. He seemed upset again when we asked him to repeat the specials that were available. The pasta that was served was very good. One of our members had ordered lamb and had to send it back, as it was 90% fat! When it came back, it was only 50% fat, not much better. I should hope the other waiters have better attitudes than Emanuele. The entire dinner, we were given the "bum's rush" and rude treatment. Although most of the food was good, I would definitely NOT RECOMMEND this restaurant to tourists, as it is not a very hospitable place! read more

We didn't want to share our cacio e pepe so my wife and I both ordered the same dish. Unfortunately it was too salty for me and it kinda ruined the experience.
