We had to wait one hour to get cold, bland food when the restaurant was virtually empty. The place was nice but they need more help cooking

Food was gross. It all tasted old like it was last week's leftovers. Nice people, but food is no good

Great steak at a reasonable price. A little off the beaten path, but if you're in Montana, chances are that won't bother you much.

I'm not a fan of onions or soup but their French Onion soup is the top 3 soups I've ever eaten!

What a great place. Having been a longtime patron of the Rex Hotel back when it was first restored…read morein the 1980s, imagine the delight when you find an old haunt reimagined and refreshed for today's patrons. The interior is western themed, naturally, and overstuffed with atmosphere not to mention the seats. Great views of the bar and kitchen, you can watch a crew hard at work. The courtyard seating remains delightful but on a Billings Friday night in the historic railroad district it was loud, but good times. The setting and service are top-notch. The Menu is expansive for a Montana steakhouse, lots, lots of choices besides the beef, with wonderful sides, and salads. Solid wine and beer list but imaginative cocktails. Do try the Orange Nor'easter, a blend of bourbon, ginger beer, maple syrup and ginger beer that is a great summer drink. The NY strip was superb--wish the more expensive places back in the east would send their folks out west to learn how to grill steak. Seared with a crispy outside but perfect medium rare on the inside. The steak bites appetizer was a meal into itself, and spot on in its prep. Loved the deluxe mashed potatoes. Beet salad was fresh and zingy. Even the bread service was superior. The wait staff did a great job of explaining everything. But they couldn't convince us to do desserts--bet they are top notch too. Maybe next time. We opted for another round of cocktails on a warm summer night when at this place Billings lived up to its motto of being the "Magic City"

If you're looking for a steakhouse in Billings, this is the spot!…read more We wanted a really good last meal in Billings and wanted local beef. This was definitely the right move. The meat portions are huge, like 16-20 ounces for each cut, so unless you're starving, definitely consider splitting between two people. Each cut is served a la carte with the sides meant to share for the table. I didn't do that and ordered the butter aged ribeye, and my husband and I shared the escargot, lobster mac and cheese, and their vegetable of the day which was a stuffed pepper. The steak was INCREDIBLE. I finished it all, even though I was then very full for multiple days. I loved the escargot as well, it was so cheesy and buttery. The Mac and cheese is also a stand out, definitely order it, so delicious. The stuffed peppers weren't great, I didn't really like them. They had too much going on flavor-wise that didn't really work. If I were to go back, I'd get a more standard steakhouse side like broccoli or asparagus. To drink, I ordered the gin fizz. It had little bits of lavender on top and you could really taste it in each sip, but it wasn't overpowering. Very delish. The service was great throughout the evening. I also thought the restaurant was beautiful with tall ceilings, beautiful bar, and the tables and chairs were beautiful (and comfortable).

Unfortunately, when we got there ( at 7pm on Saturday night) they were already out of the bison. We originally thought about leaving, but then decided to just try something else. Also, I know that I did not expect the best I've ever had, ordering seafood at a restaurant in Montana. This is just to let everyone know, whatever you do, do not order the Cajun shrimp. It was the worst shrimp I've ever had. It was so overcooked it had the consistency of a hockey puck, and the seasoning tasted as if it was marinated in balsamic vinegar-nothing remotely Cajun about it. It was a cool experience, with the pig races, and my husband's ribeye was decent. Just don't order the Cajun shrimp!!

Bison steak was good and jumbo shrimp were favorable and cooked just right! Betting on the pig races was a little cumbersome with waiting in line. I feel like we spent more time waiting in line than actually enjoying the races. Races were fun to watch. Bar service was below average. The bar tenders (there were 3 by my count) were not able to keep up and seemed disoriented with the drinks in the bar (was this their first night?!?). Took about 15 minutes to cash out our tab. Also, would have preferred more options for beer on tap.

The ribeye was great and the baked potato was better than the mashed potatoes, but both were normal. The New York strip was cooked to perfection. We paired the steaks with a bottle of cab sav, and I do think they should look for some better wines at the price paid, but they are likely catering to out of towers. The service was just okay, but seems like they may need better training for servers and table bussers, as it didn't seem like their fault they just didn't know best practice. Overall, good food and experience but probably not completely worth the price. Still 5 stars because it was tasty and nice to sit outside even downtown.

We were greeted by a friendly young woman and were asked if we had reservations. We did not. She said no problem and offered us a seat at a hightop in the bar area. Weirdly, the bar (3 feet away) was "closed"? But no problem, we were happy to order drinks and wait for a table. I ordered their Rosemary Old Fashioned (see pic), which the nice young lady made. Honestly, that drink is the reason for the 4th star in this review. It was well crafted and exceptionally tasty. My colleague ordered the Bearproof Manhattan and enjoyed it as well. Our wait for the table wasn't more than 10 minutes so we took our drinks and headed into the dining room. Very western steakhouse vibe, which was nice. Our server was kind of a strange dude. Very low energy and acted like we were kind of annoying him by being there. We heard him interacting with other tables and it wasn't quite as bad but it wasn't the level of service you'd typically expect at the prices they charge. Fortunately, I was so tired and love-drunk on my Old Fashioned that I didn't really care. I had the salmon and my buddy had the beef stroganoff. Both were good. I would absolutely go back here to have another cocktail, but probably would try a couple of the other places for dinner before doing food here again. Cannot recommend the Rosemary Old Fashioned highly enough--provided it's made by the same young woman (wish I could remember her name!).
