I'm confused about the rave reviews. I think they have good cupcakes but they're not great. I went to a cookie exchange where people had purchased theirs and they were not very good - lots left over. But, on to the service: we decided to give it another shot, we go in, and the cashier tried to start a political argument with my husband over his benign, apolitical t-shirt that triggered her for some reason. No matter how hard he tried to deflect, she kept insisting on a response. He was nicer than he should have been and didn't let it escalate, but we aren't in a bakery to discuss government policies with a random cashier. The pastries certainly are not good enough to suffer through the proselytizing of the stranger swiping your credit card. read more

Well, we gave them a shot ...in fact, we gave them a few, but perhaps we just were not impressed by the products. Sorry to say. The biggest reason for only 3 stars is that we both were disappointed not only at the amount of choices they have, but also didn't care for the taste of what we bought. The display cases consist of too many 'thumbprint' (cookies), which we never tried. They're everywhere in multiples of every color you can imagine under the sun. It takes up so much case space of only thumbprint cookies that there is hardly any room for anything else. The remaining case space is taken up by a few other cookies such as individually-wrapped 'smiley' cookies, and a couple other cookie choices. We had to throw away the smiley cookies because they were 'break-a-tooth-hard'. The smiley cookie also was made with a heavy handed dose of almond extract which made it unusually cloying and distasteful. In the cold case, there are about three choices of cupcakes with either yellow or chocolate cake, decorated with buttercream roses on top. These cupcakes also had an excessive amount of almond extract in the cake. Also available are creme horns. I have always had creme horns that had a soft flaky crust, but these horns were too hard and dense. The whipped filling was okay. Another gem I didn't like was my chocolate éclair. I love eclairs and have had them elsewhere in many flavors. The 'chocolate' eclair had a dark chocolate topping, which did not have enough sweetness in it. It's only redeeming quality was the custard filling, which was tasty. We tried this bakery a total of three times. The first time we met the owner at my request and I told him I had heard so many good things about his bakery. At each return trip, the customer service declined by leaps and bounds. Recently went to a birthday party that featured a cake from your store. WOW!!! I haven't had a piece of cake that terrific in a very long time. Super delicious! Not only delicious but Beautiful! We bought a packaged cookies, just heads up THEY HAVE NUTS. Doesn't mention this on the package. We got the flavored ones which they said was strawberry, lemon and vanilla. The strawberry tasted "ok" my daughter said. To me it tasted like they mixed strawberries with shortening/royal icing and buttercream. Lemon frosting- I liked the lemon flavoring they used; I used that in the bakery I worked at. The blue and white tasted like shortening. The cookie itself needed sugar. My daughter can't have nuts so she couldn't weigh in. Definitely wouldn't recommend these cookies. These went straight to the trash. Red velvet cupcake.... lordy, the frosting was hard, I mean hard. This cupcake was soft in the middle, hard on the outside. You could tell it wasn't fresh. Tasted like I was eating fish eggs, trash. Ugg, wish I could have said something btter about this place. The pretzel was not like a preztel at all. It was like a super dry biscuit in a pretzel form. Not chewy, just fell apart. read more

We've purchased many cakes from Federal. My daughter loves the almond cake for her birthday and it is delicious. Comes in a couple sizes and that's a plus. Other pastries are good and they have a big variety. Prices are ok. No real ambiance, inside looks a little tired. I compare that to Jackson's bakery which is old and dated but it's expected to be, it's old and an icon in the area. Federal is newer. Service is good. Staff are nice. read more

This is my go to place for cakes unless someone asks for something else. Why they would I have no idea, plain crazy. Of course they have other yummy baked goods which makes it so hard to go in and just get a cake. They also recently really helped me out by cranking out a sheet cake with not much notice. An amazing bakery. This place is legendary in Hixson and fully deserves that status. It is tucked into the strip mall behind O'Charley's on Hixson Pike. You can also reach it by taking Northpointe Blvd and turning when you see the Goodwill store. It is a very small shop but when you walk in you are immediately transported to your private happy place by the amazing smells of sugary goodness. The cookies, cakes and breads are all beautifully displayed. They also take custom orders and make incredible personalized birthday cakes and cheesecakes. They are a little more expensive than other places but you can honestly taste the difference in every buttery bite. One of my favorite items from here are the thumbprint cookies which are absolutely addictive. read more

You guys I'm swooning over this loaf of poppyseed almond cake. Oh my goodness for less than $3 you can eat the most dense, fluffly, flavor-packed cake. So good! Come here for your wedding cake if you want the traditional flavor. They do it right! The cupcakes are good here too. You can get a regular size cupcake or a large size cupcake. I went with a strawberry cupcake with strawberry frosting. So delicious! You can taste the macerated berries in the cake and the frosting. And the ducks and dinos make for cute baby shower cookies. This bakery was a great find on a late Saturday... I did not even realize that it existed until I googled bakeries in the nearby area. I feel as if this review is not a bona fide manifestation of this bakery because I got there at about 5 o'clock on Saturday, and I am sure that many of the items had already been sold. I was looking for a cake for a wedding shower. My choices were a bit limited at this time, but I chose a very nice chocolate and yellow cake with a beautiful chocolate frosting that dripped down over the cake with a cherry on top. I also picked up two dozen of the Mexican wedding cakes. The cake was a treat because there was thick icing both chocolate and vanilla around the entire cake. Who could not like that? I thought that it was a bit pricey, but I am used to making my own desserts for a fraction of the price. If, however, You are not a decorator, but enjoy serving beautiful looking desserts like cupcakes and or cakes, this is a great place to visit. The staff is very helpful, and this bakery stays open late on Saturday which is a real convenience! read more

We ordered a couple of cinnamon twists, a cinnamon danish and a cheese danish. Everything was fresh and delicious! Very decadent and rich because they do not lightly glaze anything. But hey, it's vacation, so there are no rules!. You really need to get several of these to make sure that you have something to "come home to" at the end of the day. They are truly delicious. They make the best strawberry cake with cream cheese icing that I've ever tasted. I love how the sale slices of cake so that you don't have to buy the whole thing because you know you're going to have to eat the whole thing before the family gets home to hide the evidence. Needed a birthday cake. Someone told me where this bakery was. I had heard of it, but never been there. It's kind of tucked away in an old shopping strip behind O'Charley's on Northpointe. Nothing too special about the storefront, but when you walk in, be prepared! The sweet smells of the cookies and cakes will literally buckle your knees. Oh goodness!! It took me a second to regain consciousness but when I did, I was overwhelmed by all the different types of sweets on display. The place was crowded, and I'm told it stays that way. The line moved quickly. The person that waits on you is the same one that rings your order up. They box up whatever cupcakes or cookies you want. Very decently priced as far as I could tell. There was a lady icing a cake right there in front behind a glass window. She was effortlessly dropping flowers on top of a cake and it looked so good. Everyone was so friendly. My friend brought a giant chocolate chip cookie cake back from Chattanooga, TN this weekend and surprised me with a slice of it! His parents picked it up on Thursday for his birthday and I ate my slice on Sunday. For this cookie cake being 4 days old, I was so amazed at how soft it still was! The icing was really fluffy and the inside of the cookie cake was that soft cookie consistency us cookie connoisseurs look for. This is my favorite place for good real buttercream iced cakes! They have the best white cake with white icing I've ever had. The cake has a slight almond flavor and the icing is real buttercream, which is not always easy to find. You can buy individual cupcakes if you don't need a whole cake. As a previous reviewer said, I would go here any day before going to some competitors who sell their fancy, overpriced cupcakes by looks over taste. I am not as find of their chocolate icing, although others may be Ok with it. They have other sweet treats for sale also, including some bitesized shortbread type cookies w/ a dollop of icing, which are amazing! If I ever get married this would be my go-to place for a cake.
