This bakery is finally open again after two years but with varying hours. You must place your order in advance and the larger your quantity, the better they appreciate it. Since everything in the Bluff View Art District's hours are limited, make sure you call first to see what their hours are for the day. They have a fabulous assortment of fresh-baked and delicious breads and sweet treats. My favorite is the challah bread. It's so soft, fluffy and very pleasant tasting. Rembrandt's Coffee House around the corner from them also sells their breads and baked goods, so you have a second option if Bluff View Bakery is closed. Arrived in Uber to discover the manager gave us the wrong address. Next was looking place a bottle of champagne (that was not provided by the inn) no ice machine exists in the building that was staying at. Was told have to goto a separate building to find ice. When I arrived at the next building the ice machine was empty. So this is just the beginning! So woke up the next morning and no food or breakfast is located in the three or more buildings. You have to walk about a city block away. When you arrive for breakfast your food is delivered in a cardboard box - which was actually gross ! You will NOT wake up to fresh coffee, orange juice or anything in the common area. You will find all areas are locked except for a very cold room with an actual church Pugh bench in the common area. Next I return to the room and the maids were outside. I asked for extra bathroom towels and was told "can only give you more towels in exchange for your dirty towels. I also asked for another blanket to sleep with and the maid states " now I have to goto the other building for that". Later that day I turned on the shower, the shower knob was stuck on all hot, and could not even take a three minute shower. The actual room had a small television in the wall, behind the television was a curtain. I moved the curtain back to find a huge hole on the wall (where and old tv was filled with dust). Tony's pasta restaurant (onsite) was a sodium filled nightmare. Tried the pasta- over cooked , the meatballs were unetiable. The Bluff View Bakery is located in the Bluff View Arts District, hence the name. The building evokes a sense that I had wandered into some European village and standing before me is a cross between a red brick cottage and a towering country home. For how big the building looks the part that the customer sees is quite small. Upon entering there is are a few carts loaded with different types of bread and there is an open door leading into the employee section where they are busy producing their beautiful product. This is decidedly a place where you choose the loaf and get on your way, there are no seats to linger. They had two types of bread available to sample. The employee was friendly and gave me a sample and helped me with my questions. I could not decide if I wanted to go the sweet or savory route, or perhaps the "in-between" plain route. They have many different interesting flavors but I decided to get something that would be more like a breakfast bread, so I settled on the raisin walnut batard. The bread was not sweet but had sweet morsels like the raisins in them. I really like this one! I would want to try a savory bread next time but the qualify is definitely there. GREAT BAKERY. I was visiting my mom in Chattanooga for the weekend after Thanksgiving when she ran out of bread. So we hopped into her car and drove over to Bluff View to get bread from the Bluff View Bakery. My mom must have passed 100+ places where she could have bought bread on the way from her house to BVB, but no. If there's bread in her house, it's bread from BVB. And now I understand why. Since I was there, I grabbed a few things myself and brought them back to Nashville. There was so much I wanted (sweet breads, rye breads), but I ultimately decided to get challah and a jalapeno cheddar boule. So good. Well baked bread is amazing. Poorly baked bread can be wrong in so many ways - dense, heavy, crumbly. Not the bread from BVB. Light and airy and wonderful flavor. Sometimes I think my mom can be a little loco. But not about this bread. Bread from BVB is just better! (Four stars only because it's a tiny place and there's really no way to walk around or stand even if there are other people inside with you.) Only open from noon to 5 everyday... something I have to remember since I usually get there at 6 and its not open :( If you can find this place, go in!!!! The smells, the sights, the baked goods! Its near the sculpture garden and at the back of Tony's. And there is limited parking. Its on the bluffs art area, if that helps. The bread, pretzels, rolls etc. Are freshly made. And are amazing. I almost ate a whole loaf in a sitting... so little rolls it is now. Also if there's something you want, you can order it ahead of time and will be there the next day. They don't consistently make the same thing everyday. Must stop here at least once... they also do have samples. read more

When I first moved to Chattanooga, I didn't know anyone or where anything was. I often spent time driving around the city and checking out spots that appealed to me. One of the spots was Bluff View. It's such a beautiful and quaint area. What sticks out first is this huge house, 4-story house. Looks like something out of a fairytale. Very European looking. It's the anchor for the Bluff View Arts District. So one day I was wondering around the property and happened to walk into Bluff View Bakery. I actually walked right into the bakery. It didn't look like it was a storefront area, so I went to turn around and walk out. Someone came to the front and asked if they could help me. I told them I was new in the area and didn't know anything about Chattanooga and this business. I don't recall who the lady was, but she was super kind and sort of showed me around as much as she could and told me about the Bluff View Arts District and even gave me some samples of bread to try out. I've had many more experiences of having their bread at restaurants around town, and it always makes my heart feel warm that it comes from this magical place that welcomed me here to Chattanooga. I get so busy in my day-to-day life that I forget that this is one of my favorite spots in the city. It has beautiful views of the river and the bridges and the sculpture garden is amazing. I walked in the door and racks of bread were just about 3 feet from my face. There were 4 people in our group and 2 of us barely had room to turn around and exit the bldg. I've only been here once. It was early in the morning and my mother and I stumbled across it and bought big, fluffy and warm blueberry muffins. This place has fantastic bread! This bakery, Tony's pasta, Back Inn Cafe and Rembrandt's Coffee are all owned by the same folks. I've had the opportunity to talk with their marketing manager Michelle a couple times. She's really nice and very passionate about what they do. They grow almost all of the herbs for the bakery and restaurants at a garden about 1/4 mile from the bakery. All the breads I've bought have been awesome. Their health loaf is filled with all kinds of seeds and grains, but very soft and flavorful. The cranberry walnut loaf is so good I fill up on it before I can get it toasted. Their hours are pretty short... noon - 5. But you can find them at the Sunday Chattanooga Market (which is awesome), Rembrandt's coffee and Bi-los. So plenty of spots to get their bread. Oh and a few weeks ago at Brewhaus I got a free pretzel for checking in... this bakery provides their pretzels, and they're great! read more

I am basing this review solely on receiving the Health Bread Loaf as a gift... some of the best bread we've ever had. I live in Nashville and received 2 loaves the same day they were baked/purchased. We cut into one and froze the other. Each remained fresh bagged on the countertop for 6 days before getting a bit dry, even the thawed one (I wouldn't have ever known it was frozen if it weren't for me putting it in the freezer.) Full of texture from sunflower, sesame, flax, and poppy seeds, the Health Bread Loaf has become my favorite bread for sandwiches and toast alike. The only thing I would have liked was to see nutritional information on the package. This may be available in-store, I am not sure, but I certainly can't let it reflect negatively on a Yelp review. I have yet to see the inside of the bakery or taste any of their other options but I am very excited to do so the next time we're in town. These bakers truly know where it's at; I'm envious of the locals who have the ability to frequent this bakery daily. My lady and I were driving through Chattanooga and we decided to make a pitstop for some coffee to fight off that sleepy feeling. Walking around the area, we came across this bakery. We love bakeries, so dropped in for some fresh bread. The actual customer part of the bakery is TINY. My closet at home is bigger, but that's okay. They had a few different types of bread to choose from, but we settled on the one with kalamata olives. We ended up making a few stop and having dinner before making it home from our road trip. I really wasn't hungry, but didn't want to wait till tomorrow to eat the bread and risk it being any less fresh, so we broke into. We had some olive oil and balsamic vinegar for dipping and my oh my. the bread was freaking delicious. we seriously ate half the loaf right then and there. The next morning, I woke up earlier than expected just to eat more of the bread and to make sure my lady didn't eat all of it without me. We'll definitely be visiting this place again. read more

These guys make the best Challah braid that have ever had. I recently tried one from a different local bakery bc it was nearby and it was a mistake. It just tasted like dry white bread. The Bluff View Bakery makes it with the perfect amount of sweetness. It's moist, the perfect consistency and you know it's done right just by the glossy bake on the top. Visited the bakery today as we were traveling through town. Cashier was extremely rude and unprofessional. She verbally attacked us as we asked a question about a specific favorite bread we were looking for (as we've frequented the bakery for years). She also refused to slice our bread (even though there's a sign that states any bread could be sliced) then proceeded to tell us today was her last day working at the bakery. The lack of customer service experienced while in the bakery was the worst we've ever experienced in any store EVER (in the entire world!). While the baked goods are tasty, the lack of service isn't worth it. The manager and owner should be thankful that she's no longer representing Bluff View Bakery. read more

Came here after having their wonderful pretzels at the Brewhaus. Truly an artisan bakery, in probably one of the most smallest but cutest locations ever. You walk in the door and are surrounded by racks and racks of freshed baked breads. The aroma was simply intoxicating. You could actually watch the bakers in the back room. We bought several types of bread to take home. Even days later, they were still wonderful and full of flavor. Will definitely return, when we're back in town! If you get a chance, visit them and take some time to view the sculpture garden across the street & have a cup of coffee at Rembrandts in the same complex. read more

My family has been going to this bakery for over 10 years and have had all pleasant experiences. The bread is amazing. However, today my mom and I went in and the girl working acted EXTREMELY inconvenienced that we asked if they had our favorite type of bread. We then asked her to slice the bread we purchased and although there is a sign on the register that says they are happy to slice any bread, she refused. My mom proceeded to ask if the slicers weren't working. She promptly informed us that it was her last day "if it made us feel any better". My mom asked to refund the items and she refused. She said the manager was out at market and she couldn't give us a business card or a name of the owner. She continued to argue as we walked out the door. My mom wished her a good day and she claimed we were being sassy towards her when we were genuinely wishing her well. We will be hard pressed to visit again. What a horrible experience! read more
