This Summer we took an Uber to this bakery because I was without a car. We had never tried this place and were hoping this was a good bakery.
It seems to be a common theme in the Chattanooga area that bakeries are not what you want them to be. Or perhaps I am just spoiled from living in states that consistently put out better food products and pastries and baked goods than anything that is available here. We tried four cupcakes and not one was anything to write home about.
I love the latest fad in cupcakes that is making the rounds everywhere. It is comprised of beautifully decorated cupcakes with the frosting having various techniques used utilizing 'flower tips' that create a rose, a chrysanthemum, or any flower. These cupcakes are all the rage (especially with home bakers) and they have so much exquisite detail. Combined with equally delicious and moist cake in the cupcakes, you've got a winner!
You will not find pretty 'flowery-decorated' cakes or cupcakes here, just hastily-prepared lop-sided frosting falling off the not-very-tasty, dry cupcakes. It would seem to me this 'bakery' would do better if they used more butter, more quality ingredients, you know...to result in a better cupcake. I cannot speak for the cakes, cookies or other treats they make here as we did not get any of them.
STRAWBERRY: This was the worst one out of all -- imitation flavor through and through makes it difficult to even finish the cupcake. Half of this one sat on the counter until we finally threw it away.
CHOCOLATE-CHOCOLATE: Meh, nothing is worse than a dry cupcake. The chocolate flavor was there; it just wasn't good, sort of grainy. The frosting on all cupcakes had very little flavor and especially on the chocolate one. It tasted like shortening.
GERMAN-CHOCOLATE: Again, very little flavor in the ingredients that don't make this cupcake stand out on its own. It specifically should be re-name it as as 'German-Chocolate' box mix'. Also distasteful was the coconut on this cupcake; it was just to big and stringy. It was an overall nothing-cupcake.
VANILLA-VANILLA: Boring. Nothing special about the vanilla cupcake. Dull. And too much vanilla extract makes for a cloying aftertaste.
After being rung up by a guy with the personality of a piece of paper, we first tried to get an Uber back home using their networks. Since that didn't work, after 15-20 minutes of getting no help logging into their network, I finally snagged an Uber using my personal hotspot, no thanks to Chatta-cakes.
Four WiFi networks for Chatta-cakes customers to use came up on my phone, but all needed a password plus I couldn't get a signal to use the Uber App from their store. I asked for the password from the paper-personality guy and he didn't seem to understand what the signal was used for. As if no one had ever asked to use their free customer internet. He then told me the password he gave me would work for all four networks. Umm...no, it doesn't work.
He iterated many statements such as, "I don't know", "We have never used it", "Our tech said the same password should work for all of them"...but when he saw me frustrated at him because of his lack of caring whether we got a ride or not, he retreated to the kitchen section of the store. As if to say, "Lady, it's not my problem and I couldn't care less, now get out of the store after paying for cupcakes and go wait in the sweltering Tennessee humidity and heat".
Also what rubbed me wrong was the 3% charge they assess to use a debit card.
