We have been yearly guests at the Featherbed Railroad for several years. So imagine my surprise when I canceled our reservation 7 days in advance believing that I had done so before the cancellation deadline, they refused to give me a full refund. After much negotiation by Expedia on my behalf, they finally agreed to refund me for one night. My belief was that I could cancel the reservation before midnight 7 days in advance. Well it turns out, the deadline was 7 p.m. and I missed the deadline by 33 minutes. Apparently there is absolutely no room for compassion from the onsite manager. I had explained that my husband was having some health concerns and that's why I canceled the reservation. Call the cancellation police! I was 33 minutes late! Oh my! After escalating the issue to a supervisor, who contacted FR again, they still refused to give me a full refund. I even asked to reinstate my reservation in case they would not give me a full refund, which they also refused. I find it hard to believe that they're not going to be able to find a replacement reservation 7 days in advance. So not only are they likely to recoup the full reservation amount, but they are also keeping $304 of my money. The least they could have done is offered to refund the second night if they were able to rebook the caboose. Never again! Our yearly stays with FR are over! Update: They are fully booked this weekend, so I guess my $304 is a penalty for having a sick husband. Bravo! read more

My husband and I spent last weekend here to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary and we absolutely loved it! This was our 3rd time visiting Featherbed and 1st time under this new management and I have to say we were so impressed by all the upgrades. The room was very nice and comfortable and the food was delicious. They had treats and baked goods out at check in that were delicious. Also loved all the Halloween decor. My 7-year-old daughter and I arrived as a light shower misted the air, turning onto the quiet street to find the most charming B&B I've ever seen. Nestled right by the lake, this place feels like stepping into a dream, with vintage train cabooses turned into cozy, themed suites, each packed with thoughtful touches--down to the floss. Mornings start with a delicious homemade breakfast, and evenings are best spent with a glass of red wine or a hot cup of coffee by the giant hearth in the dining room. The whole place is wrapped in warmth, from the open grassy spaces perfect for wandering to the friendly faces that make you feel at home the second you arrive. And the animals! Swans, geese, and ducks gliding across the water, and now they've even got chickens. My daughter was in heaven, running around spotting them all, completely enchanted. It's incredibly clean, kid-friendly, and even dog-friendly. When it was time to leave, she just wasn't ready. And honestly? Neither was I. We are here for our mini honeymoon! This place is absolutely beautiful!! It is so quiet and romantic and cozy! Each rail car has its own theme. We stayed in "wine country". The owners are friendly and make sure you have everything you need. We will definitely be telling everyone about it and coming back again. I love that there is a book that the guests write in inside the rail cars. It rained while we were here and it smelled so good and it was so fresh! The view of Clear Lake is beautiful! read more

Caboose theme was fun and had plenty of room. Driving into our spot though was a little confusing, it had two names on the outside, lol Walked into the bathroom, jacuzzi/shower in the caboose had rust in tub and on its fixtures. Unusable and unsafe. Breakfast looked great . I had told the staff of my egg allergies when I reserved our caboose. We agreed on oatmeal and fruit. When they served me eggs Benedict on the second morning after reminding them of my allergies after our first breakfast of French Toast, I just gave up and ate the fruit on the plate again. Ugh, so frustrating. So, good luck, hopefully things get fixed; equipment and your customers communication. As for us, third time isn't a charm. We probably won't return. read more

What a wonderful experience. The room we stayed in was immaculate and the host was fabulous. Extremely accommodating. Ali was awesome, willing to do everything possible to make your experience amazing. She truly went out of her way to make sure your experience was fruitful. Fantastic place to stay, great atmosphere, lots of thoughtful amenities, friendly hosts, great view of Clear Lake from some of the cabooses, lots of things to do there!! Love that each caboose is their own thyme room, some cabooses have an in room hot tub. So, my only complaint is, the Breakfast, (a B & B stands for breakfast) I was expecting a fantastic breakfast!! Not so here, one small piece of French Toast, a small frozen hash brown, an a very small sausage patty (that was so over cooked, would have made a good hockey puck!) an all of it was either lukewarm or cold... As far as staying there, I'll give it a 10!! But for the breakfast, a 2!! Could have easily eaten two of there breakfasts. Just be warned, you will need lunch early after breakfast there!! Really, the breakfast should be one of the things you want to tell someone that it's the best reason for staying at the RxR Bed & Breakfast!!!! read more

My husband found Featherbed Railroad and asked if we could stay here for his birthday this year. He loves trains. I added a cake to our reservation for his special day and it was waiting there when we checked in. The grounds are cute and garden-like. The pool area is neat and we were allowed to bring our pup inside for a bit while no other guests were there which was really nice. It was my favorite part of the stay and I just love how dog friendly they are here. We also had a funny encounter with a wild turkey in the pool area and it is something we have been laughing about ever since. Making great memories is what traveling is all about. We stayed in the wine country caboose because it is one of two dog friendly ones they have. It's a little ironic because we don't drink, but from previous reviews we learned it has the better view of the water. It has a big jetted tub and a cupola you can climb up into as well as all the basic amenities like a tv, small fridge, coffee maker, etc. They also have DVDs you can borrow which was great because we spent a good amount of time in the caboose. Breakfasts are included and they are lovely; homemade with love and super delicious. They have cats on the grounds and our pup was being a little annoying and curious at our first breakfast on the patio, so the next day, we were able to get breakfast to go and bring it back to the caboose. It was a very unique kitschy experience and I am so glad my hubby was able to have a noteworthy birthday here. read more

What a unique and fun weekend getaway. My husband rides Harley's so we stayed in the Easy Rider caboose. He LOVED it. Spent good half hour checking out all the details and taking pics to send to his buddies. It was a hit. Nailed it!. Lol. The location is peaceful and quiet. We greatly enjoyed our couples getaway weekend in such a unique and cozy bed and breakfast. We booked three rooms, a caboose converted into a hotel room with their individual bathrooms (one thing to note is there isn't a shower but a bath tub that has a hand held shower head). Each room has a unique theme. We stayed in the Easy Rider, Casablanca, and Wine Country. The rooms had cleaver decorations to compliment each theme. We all commented on how well we slept and how good quality the sheets were. Breakfast was delivered to our door in the morning and tasted phenomenal. We found a picnic bench on the property to enjoy it outside. We also walked across the street to the dock to enjoy the views of the lake. We are all excited to come back and stay again and check out a different caboose! read more

We absolutely loved our stay at Featherbed. We stayed in the Orient Express caboose, which had a gorgeous view of the lake. The room is well thought out including the deck with table and chairs. Soaking in the jacuzzi tub after a long day was so relaxing. Sunset was magical from our cupola. We enjoyed playing giant connect 4 outside. There are bbqs which we ran out of time to take advantage of. Service was excellent, such nice people! Breakfast in the morning was delicious, we had a scramble and fresh fruit Saturday and French toast and more delicious fruit Sunday. Two nights were not enough, we would definitely come back, even though it's a 5 hour drive from home. read more

We had a three day mini getaway here during the Sac heatwave, and It was awesome! We stayed in Easy Rider and loved everything about it. The Owners are so nice and accommodating. We loved chatting with Paul and June and June's breakfasts were SO, SO tasty! We spent the cool mornings looking out at the lake from our caboose and their private dock. The grounds are beautiful and so inviting. Spent the afternoons hiking nearby, visiting the local towns, and came back to a nice dip in their pool. We will absolutely be back. The hosts of this B&B are a delight. Such a unique little gem. The room (train car) was so cozy and the amenities were fantastic. The most comfortable bed and pillows ever, the jacuzzi tub was amazing and the vibe of the hosts, staff and guests have been a delight. There is something so magical with the sun setting through the trees here, with pristine Clearlake in the background. This place seems likes it should be the setting of a hallmark movie, which I was able to binge so many hallmark movies, thanks to their direct streaming service in every room. The breakfast provided was such a great start to the day. David and Jami have something so special here, and I cannot wait for our next visit. We wish we could have stayed in this little slice of Paradise, that they have created, a little bit longer. read more

We stayed at the Featherbed Railroad at Halloween time and had a great stay. Los season, so we were the only ones here for 2 of our 3 nights. We were in the TropiCaboose with a Key West theme. Signs for Margaritaville and Jimmy Buffet Drive were nice touches with his recent passing. The bed and space were very comfortable and cozy. Really lacking for nothing in a mid-range B&B. Breakfast was tasty and large. On a par were the staff who were gracious and accommodating. Most of our interaction was with Richard and he couldn't have been nicer. If we find ourselves in the Lake area I would not hesitate to stay here again and try a different caboose. read more

Things you'll absolutely love. - Caboose is absolutely amazing inside. There's even a cupola for you to climb up onto and look out above the caboose. - Lakefront setting is beautiful. - Wild West, large, claw foot soaking tub. - Ultra clean inside. - Parking app the foot of your caboose's stairs. - Good cable TV. - Nice grounds with picnic tables, and there's even a pool if it's summer. - Full breakfast in a very nice dining room. Things you might like. - Verizon 4G mobile phone signal. - Fisherman's Paradise, from what I've heard. - Fantastic drone flying opportunities. Clearlake is a great place to fly your drone. Things you might not like so much. - Bed sheets have strong smell of scented laundry detergent. I stumbled upon this place from a Google search and knew I had to book it. We made the trip late at night, and our GPS took us through the 175, if your GPS routes you there, go a different way, the road was so twisty and long, I was carsick the whole way. The next day we met June and Paul, who were incredibly kind and welcoming and accommodating. They loved Rosie, sat and talked with us whenever, and made such a lasting impression that we're sure to be back in the future! The only thing I wish they had would be an area to sit outside with a fire, not a need, but just something we thought would be nice when we were sitting out front of our caboose at night. I've already recommended this place to everyone I could and I can't wait for our next trip back! read more

We really enjoyed our stay here this weekend. It was a welcome break and we found their covid safety excellent. Unlike many places, they still give a full breakfast delivered to your room between 9 and 10 ( text when you are ready) and its really good. Shout out to the scone maker...seriously. The cabooses are super cute and the tub in the wine country car is very big. The heater is noisy but thats not a deal breaker for us. If you want an unobstructed view of the lake, make sure you ask for the caboose closest to the road. The cuppola of the winery caboose offers great views of the lake. The owners were very nice, super accommodating. If you get rained in they have tons of dvds to borrow too! Extra props for being dog friendly with advanced notice! We spotted this beauty while looking for a place to stay while visiting Nice (pronounced niece) for a few days. We have stayed in another railroad themed park and were happy to try this one. Currently there are 9 cabooses, each individually themed, to choose from. For us Tropicaboose. Step into the beach folks. The feel is like a beach cabana and very nice. We had warm weather and the individually controlled AC unit kept it comfortable. It got cold at night but I just had the unit on fan and the caboose stayed cozy all night. Just a 1 minute walk, and you are at the lake (Clearlake) to take in the sights. The team is great. Dave and Jamie (owners) keep you company and the onsite managers (I apologize but I forgot their names) are very pleasant as well. Jamie is the cook for breakfast and unlike some other B&B, you sit down and they serve you. Food is good and if there are food requirements (i.e. vegetarian) she works to accommodate you. Dave is the story teller. Need to know about something in the area...ask Dave. Need something fixed (we didn't) ask Dave. Need to know why it felt like someone was touching you, ask Dave. Oh, didn't I mention the ghosts? There are (supposedly) ghosts here. We never had an experience but Dave assures us (as did the visitor book in our room) things happen. Feeling brave? Check out caboose #10. Currently not an active unit, but it is supposedly the most haunted. I did not feel anything. But, back to the review. Dave is constantly updating the park and had many plans so I am looking forward to a return visit. Now, I need to quantify my rating. I normally do not give 5 stars. I give this a solid 4.5+ and with so much good, I had to give a 5. BTW, if you have a birthday or anniversary during (or near) your visit time, tell Jamie. You WILL be honored. A+ We stayed in the EASY RIDER caboose June 29 & 30th. The weather was perfect and the breakfast was amazing. June and her husband did a great job. They were accommodating on the time for A early breakfast and they made such a good breakfast on Saturday, we asked if they could make that for us again on Sunday. They did. It is a very clever concept and hidden gem in Lake County. We used their bikes to ride around. There was a good restaurant down the road (5 minute walk) on the water called the boathouse bar. If you are looking for a quiet getaway and something different...this is the spot. read more

We absolutely adore this place! We stayed here mid July and the weather was perfect! The rooms are all so cute and quiet. We stayed in the Easy Rider this time and it is my absolute favorite! From all the little motorcycle memorabilia to the tiny Harley in the lookout the details are so much fun even if you don't ride! The owners are super friendly and very accommodating. We had the option to dine inside the dining room in the main house or out on the front porch (Covid-19 precautions) and the food was good. The only thing that was missing from our trip was the giant swing that used to be in the grass between the train cars. Unfortunately it looks like the tree got sick and had to be cut back and I'm sure safety of the guests was more important than a silly swing. Everything else is a 10/10. This place is beyond relaxing and we will be back as soon as we can and as often as we can. read more

Just got home from a weekend here and idk where to even begin! First of all we reserved the entire place for an 80th birthday/family reunion party and David was so accommodating on the phone. He explained to us that they had just bought it and were still upgrading some things (we were lucky enough to be the first group on brand new mattresses) but I already knew it was going to be a great trip from their energy. When we arrived the bnb was decorating for my grandfathers birthday, they put out picnic tables and bbq for us to use and check in was very smooth. Throughout the weekend Jamie checked in on us, offered to take group pictures, brought out pitchers of water and overall made us feel so welcomed. The other couple (I can't remember their names) was amazing as well. Offering history of the place and cooking us delicious breakfasts of bacon egg and cheese croissants and biscuits and gravy. Not to mention the great coffee! The entire staff was nothing short of amazing!!! At one point one of their friends stopped by and sang my grandfather HBD in French and her partner gave him some amazing vintage license plates and other gifts. Our entire family was floored with how perfect this stay was (we can be a tough crowd). We will definitely be making this a yearly trip. Oh yea I forgot to mention the amazing view of the lake, stellar caboose rooms, and gorgeous grounds with so much history! I couldn't think of a better circumstance for our family trip and cannot thank the staff at Featherbed enough for making my grandfathers birthday so special! read more

Our car club did tour to the area. This was our second visit to the Featherbed Railroad. June, Dave and the staff bent over backwards to make our stay awesome. We were late getting there on Friday afternoon and had a dinner reservation to make, Dave just said come check in when done with dinner. They had new picnic tables lined up down the grass in between the Cabooses. They adjusted breakfast to 8-9a on Saturday to help us get on the road early. I had arranged for them to do dinner for us on Saturday after a day on the road. Dave gave me a great price and the convenience of not having to go out to dinner was really great. Dave's Tri-tip is aaamazing. We brought beer, wine and deserts. We have everyone dress to their caboose so the evening was pretty entertaining. Check their FB page for pictures of the group. The new beds and sheets are wonderfully comfortable, and since we stayed in La Loose Caboose the lake views from the cupola and porch were lovely since the lake is currently full. Many birds, and we were greeted with song each morning. The new owners as of July 2022 are lovingly restoring this place, and we're excited to go back because we loved staying in a caboose but also to see what happens as they continue to improve the property. Everyone was kind, and everyone loves the property that helps run it -- we learned there's 3 couples involved including the owners Jamie and David. Property opened in the 80's, and it was neglected by previous owners. It's clear they've done a ton of work since taking it over 7 months ago, and they've got plans to do a bunch more. Don't expect a perfectly kept property, but do expect a clean room and a great bed with excellent host. If you need a perfectly manicured property and everything new, this is not the property for you. Small refrigerator in each unit, each unit has a jacuzzi or jetted tub (seems late 80s in Loose), Keurig coffee, and the property offers a small (non-lap) pool. If you like trains, stay here. Even better, stay here and go take the Skunk Train in Willits. read more

My husband and I were planning a little 2 night kayaking getaway and he had some credits on a card and could only book through their portal. He had never been to Clear Lake so we checked out dog friendly places there. Well lo and behold we came across this gem! We don't like staying in fancy hotels or starkly decorated places and the Featherbed Railroad just jumped out at us. Well after we booked we found out that the weather was going to be very hot so we were looking forward to swimming in the lake and their pool. When I told a friend where we were going she mentioned toxic algae yikes! Since the booking was non refundable we went anyway and are glad we did. Richard and Renee greeted us so warmly and during our stay were more than accommodating. The first night we noticed one of the bedside table lightbulbs wasn't working so called and Richard came right away to help. Since he was going to some of the other cabooses that were unoccupied to see if they had the same type of bulb he asked us if we wanted to check them out. It was so awesome to get a look in a couple of the others and we want to go back and stay in a different one. We were in Wine Country which is cosy and thankfully has air conditioning and a little refrigerator to keep our beverages cool which made a huge difference in the 100 degree heat. We drank wine in the cupola overlooking the lake which was extra fun climbing up to. The featherbed was so comfy and our pup Bobo enjoyed lounging on it. When we arrived they told us what would be for breakfast the next day which was sausages and French toast and we said we don't eat meat so we'll just have the toast. But they went to the store and got us some veggie sausage. What service! Since we couldn't swim in the lake we spent a lot of time in their little pool on floaties which is exactly what we needed to relax. The second morning we had a really delicious veggie scramble and biscuits. The coffee was fresh and yummy and there was a huge selection of tea for my husband. We enjoyed chatting with Richard while hanging out on the dining room and checking out some of the train memorabilia there. I highly recommend a visit to this wonderfully unique bed and breakfast run by down to earth and kind people. They made what otherwise was a disappointing trip due to heat and algae a fun romantic getaway for us and our dog. read more
