We stayed here this past weekend as a short getaway for my birthday. The place has potential, but…read moreunfortunately much of the "resort" promised on the website isn't even available. The customer service here is not great. The people are nice enough, but the people working the front desk do not seem to know the answers to even basic questions. Even though the place was completely empty, they charge for an early check in. Our reservation was not correct, and they put us in a regular double room instead of the suite we asked for. Had to return to the lodge and get all new keys and room after unloading and reloading the car. We also paid for a late checkout, and we still got locked out of our room and no one responded to our call. We had to go down to the lobby, which isn't easy here, after being promised someone was on their way. Getting anything takes forever or no one knows the answer. We stayed Saturday to Monday. Unfortunately, the onsite food service and bars close at 3pm on Sundays even though that was our full day there. The tiki bar was hardly open to get drinks by the pool. Essentially the only thing to actually do here is swim in the pool, get a massage, or use the gym. No kayak rentals, no mini-golf course, no pontoon cruises, etc despite all of this being advertised on the website. It was mostly empty and felt very abandoned in most parts of the property. The highlights: the pool is nice and people were very friendly. The bartender was awesome and went above and beyond to do what she could. The actual suite was nice, but not worth the price based on the other amenities being unavailable. The massage therapist was amazing! If the owners put any effort into this place, it could be great. The lake and scenery are amazing. In its current state, we wouldn't return.

Our cottage was incredibly cozy, and our days were filled with simple joys: harvesting vegetables from the garden, feeding the bunnies, collecting eggs from the chicken coop, helping shepherd the goats, and playing with the cats. There's also a beautiful beach less than a 5-minute drive away, making it the perfect balance of farm and coast. At Mar Vista, fresh eggs are delivered to your cottage every day. On our last day, we noticed every single egg in our egg basket was blue! We realized Cab or Deanna had probably hand-picked the blue eggs for us after learning that our toddler was in a phase where she loved everything blue. It was such a thoughtful gesture that meant so much to us. And who knew eggs came in so many beautiful colors? That was one of many incredible things we learned/experienced at Mar Vista. Our toddler has been asking to go back every single day since we left, and honestly, so have we. We can't wait to return.

Our cozy cottage was clean with a great view of the garden and ocean. The bed is very comfortable and the provided space heater helped kept us warm at night. Only con I have to say is the pillows were very flat so we had to sleep with both pillows on top of each other for more support. I love that it had a full kitchen so you can cook delicious meals with fresh ingredients such as the daily delivered eggs straight from the chickens and greens you pick from the garden. If you want a break from cooking or want a meal prepped for when you arrive, you can add in the option of a dinner or picnic basket to your reservation as well. For the activities such as chicken chat and goat gab we weren't able to attend; it was raining pretty heavily during our stay so we opted to stay indoors and enjoy the cozy cabin. For the moments where the rain would stop, it was nice to explore the land, making stops by the bunnies and chickens with our dogs. Definitely planing on coming back! Would love to experience Mar Visita during the spring or summer!

After checking in at the office we met another family at the campsite. At the time of this posting there were no reserved campsites, only reserved yurts and tiny houses. But for the tent campsites it was first come and first served. This created a small mix up with the family who had reserved two tiny houses and thought it included the campsite between the two houses. It did not and our families ended up setting up there due to the shade and even ground. We got to try the paddle boats which was very fun but come prepared for lots of mosquitoes (only around the pond not all over the campsite). If you forget big spray they have some choices in the office as long as you get there before the office closes. They have natural and chemical options. There are no campsites at the tent camping sites but they do have two community fire pits and it was easy to make use of those. One night was not enough to enjoy all the amenities but even more reason to come back soon. And we do hope to be back. This place was very fun, easy going, and thoughtfully set up.

For our family, spending $200 to $250 a night is not a casual decision. We're not a wealthy family, so when we spend that kind of money, we're looking for a place where everyone can relax and feel like it was worth it. Usually that gets us a hotel room with two beds, a pool, and maybe a hot tub. This place is on a completely different level. The setting is absolutely gorgeous, with acres of land to explore, hiking trails, bike trails, and enough space that you can actually breathe. The kids loved the mini golf, the fire pits with wood provided, the swimming pool, and the free bikes. Our accommodations felt more like a little apartment than a hotel room. We had two bedrooms, a hot plate, a refrigerator, and all the kitchen supplies we needed. It made the whole stay easy and comfortable. The atmosphere is relaxed, welcoming, and family-friendly without feeling chaotic. The service was equally impressive. Everyone we interacted with was kind, generous, and genuinely seemed happy to help. We spent Father's Day here, and something rare happened: everybody got what they wanted. The kids had the freedom to explore and have their own adventures, and I had the chance to rest, recharge, and join in whenever I wanted. Nobody was bored. Nobody was frustrated. We were all happy. That's a pretty remarkable thing. Take your family, take your friends, take your company to Mandala. It's amazing
