Not a big price difference and absolutely worth the extra money. What could have been a pretty stressful situation became the best thing possible! The customer service here is not great. The people are nice enough, but the people working the front desk do not seem to know the answers to even basic questions. Even though the place was completely empty, they charge for an early check in. Our reservation was not correct, and they put us in a regular double room instead of the suite we asked for. Had to return to the lodge and get all new keys and room after unloading and reloading the car. We also paid for a late checkout, and we still got locked out of our room and no one responded to our call. We had to go down to the lobby, which isn't easy here, after being promised someone was on their way. Getting anything takes forever or no one knows the answer. We stayed Saturday to Monday. Unfortunately, the onsite food service and bars close at 3pm on Sundays even though that was our full day there. The tiki bar was hardly open to get drinks by the pool. Essentially the only thing to actually do here is swim in the pool, get a massage, or use the gym. No kayak rentals, no mini-golf course, no pontoon cruises, etc despite all of this being advertised on the website. It was mostly empty and felt very abandoned in most parts of the property. The highlights: the pool is nice and people were very friendly. The bartender was awesome and went above and beyond to do what she could. The actual suite was nice, but not worth the price based on the other amenities being unavailable. The massage therapist was amazing! If the owners put any effort into this place, it could be great. Our cottage was incredibly cozy, and our days were filled with simple joys: harvesting vegetables from the garden, feeding the bunnies, collecting eggs from the chicken coop, helping shepherd the goats, and playing with the cats. There's also a beautiful beach less than a 5-minute drive away, making it the perfect balance of farm and coast. At Mar Vista, fresh eggs are delivered to your cottage every day. On our last day, we noticed every single egg in our egg basket was blue! We realized Cab or Deanna had probably hand-picked the blue eggs for us after learning that our toddler was in a phase where she loved everything blue. It was such a thoughtful gesture that meant so much to us. And who knew eggs came in so many beautiful colors? That was one of many incredible things we learned/experienced at Mar Vista. Our toddler has been asking to go back every single day since we left, and honestly, so have we. We can't wait to return.

If you want a break from cooking or want a meal prepped for when you arrive, you can add in the option of a dinner or picnic basket to your reservation as well. For the activities such as chicken chat and goat gab we weren't able to attend; it was raining pretty heavily during our stay so we opted to stay indoors and enjoy the cozy cabin. For the moments where the rain would stop, it was nice to explore the land, making stops by the bunnies and chickens with our dogs. Definitely planing on coming back! After checking in at the office we met another family at the campsite. At the time of this posting there were no reserved campsites, only reserved yurts and tiny houses. But for the tent campsites it was first come and first served. This created a small mix up with the family who had reserved two tiny houses and thought it included the campsite between the two houses. It did not and our families ended up setting up there due to the shade and even ground. We got to try the paddle boats which was very fun but come prepared for lots of mosquitoes (only around the pond not all over the campsite). If you forget big spray they have some choices in the office as long as you get there before the office closes. They have natural and chemical options. There are no campsites at the tent camping sites but they do have two community fire pits and it was easy to make use of those. One night was not enough to enjoy all the amenities but even more reason to come back soon. And we do hope to be back. This place was very fun, easy going, and thoughtfully set up.

The setting is absolutely gorgeous, with acres of land to explore, hiking trails, bike trails, and enough space that you can actually breathe. The kids loved the mini golf, the fire pits with wood provided, the swimming pool, and the free bikes. Our accommodations felt more like a little apartment than a hotel room. We had two bedrooms, a hot plate, a refrigerator, and all the kitchen supplies we needed. It made the whole stay easy and comfortable. The atmosphere is relaxed, welcoming, and family-friendly without feeling chaotic. The service was equally impressive. Everyone we interacted with was kind, generous, and genuinely seemed happy to help. We spent Father's Day here, and something rare happened: everybody got what they wanted. The kids had the freedom to explore and have their own adventures, and I had the chance to rest, recharge, and join in whenever I wanted. Nobody was bored. Nobody was frustrated. We were all happy. Our usual place was unavailable because the town's water was mostly shut off due to a water leak. I'm so glad that we stayed here alternatively because it was a nice location and our room had a view of the lake! Additionally, our cottage was so clean, almost pristine and it felt private enough that I was able to get some much needed rest and sleep after severe jet lag. The owners obviously take pride in maintaining the property and even the pool looked so inviting but it was too windy and cool when we were there. We stayed for four nights and I slept all day twice while hubby was out fishing. There's a Safeway, Dollar Tree, and Grocery Outlet to shop at nearby and Walmart if you go a bit further away. Nothing negative to say about this place and it's good to know that there's a clean and relaxing spot to enjoy some rest and relaxation at the lake!

My extended family has been coming to WP for 44 years now, and while I can't always get away from the hustle and bustle of Silicon Valley life to join in, I appreciate every moment I spend here. It's just regular people from the Bay Area escaping the madness for a little while, reconnecting with family and friends and enjoying a beer (or two...) It is as enjoyable as you make it. While there is a pool for adults and kiddos, bocce ball, tennis court, bbq area, swings and playground, there are also porches on each cabin, which is a key ingredient for us.
