Well, when I first walked through the narrow door into the dark and dingy waiting area I thought I was in a 1960s pool hall. There is a narrow doorway to get in. In case of a fire you're gonna die. The dining area is fairly large and consists of 3 connected rooms whose walls consist of dark paneling . The carpet is dark and dingy. We got seated at a table, 3 feet away from the other tables. Waiter brings the menus and proceeds to tell us with a cocky attitude that their steaks are the best in Charleston. Dinner prices are very high. NY 5 star restaurant high. I ordered veal marsala. Th ed salad comes out looking flat with a small slice of tomato, 1 olive and a slice of cucumber. The blue cheese dressing did not have any taste. I didn't eat it. The veal marsala was just ok. 4 small pieces of veal barely enough for a chihuahua. It tasted OK. Nothing great. Deserts are the typical stuff they buy at Sam's club to resell. I had the ice cream with pistachios, except there were no pistachios. It was an expensive tab for 2 with no alcohol, just tea and water. Waiter never checked to see if we need drink refills. This is a mediocre restaurant that thinks it is high class. DEFINITELY NOT WORTH THE MONEY. read more

Where do I start , our waiter was a very un-organized gentleman from beginning to end Brought out the wrong food, and then got an attitude when we said from the start the checks were seperate. I don't know who she was but an older woman who was just awful at the register and the woman who sat behind her was even more atrocious everything was handled poorly all I know is I'll take Olive gardens fake Italian over this poor excuse of a restaurant. This is the second time I have been to this establishment and neither time have we been impressed. The first time having the pesto chicken was very disappointing. There really was no flavor, was quite bland. Today had the spaghetti with marinara. The spaghetti was quite salty, the marinara was extremely acidic and tasted like a mix of tomato acid and sugar. The garlic bread was decent and helped to get the taste of spaghetti sauce out of my mouth. The salad was quite lackluster. I had ranch dressing which tasted like anywhere else, mostly containing a spring mix with a large barely ripened tomato slice with one cucumber slice. Overall the service is the reason I gave the establishment two stars because the gentleman tonight was extremely nice, however, the food is not to the par it needs to be for the pricing. read more

I've been coming to Fazio's ever since I was little. Tonight, I celebrated my father's birthday and it is the first time I've been back in several years. Tonight we had the very best service and the food (blacken filet and cognac sauce, baked lasagna, and baked eggplant) was nothing short of amazing. For dessert we all shared tiramisu, espresso coffee, and grand mariner. I would 110% go back in a heart beat!! The food may be good but if you're a girl wearing a backpack type purse, don't look for being treated like a human being. The hostess or 'human being' that checks for your reservation, and claims to be the owner, will treat your child, being young or grown, like a dog. My daughter went to the restroom while her dad was checking us in, she had a back purse on, was followed to the bathroom, and when she came out of the restroom, that same person, I would say lady but she definitely wasn't, told my daughter " Don't ever use my or our fucking bathroom again" and "get the hell out, don't ever come back". I asked that person to apologize to her and she refused saying she didn't have to and she sure as hell wasn't going to do it just because I was asking. 3 guys stood by as I was asking for the apology. Our meal may have been paid for but it did not include the company of my kids and that DID NOT substitute for an apology or admission of wrong doing to my daughter. She even went further to say my daughter was a homeless person because she had a backpack on. My husband and I only stayed as we were guests of another couple. Won't be returning there. Absolutely pathetic service. Made reservations days in advance and they took an extra 15 minutes to seat us. Waiter was incredibly rude and messed up multiple orders and berated my sister for a miscommunication made by himself and the kitchen. Food is WILDLY overpriced for the quality. Salad tasted like a walmart brand veggie platter. Not sure how this establishment has the white collar and fancy demeanor that it claims to exude with such abysmal service and dumpster fire food. My husband and I ate there for the first time last night without a reservation. It was very busy. We were seated after a 20 min wait. Once seated we waited about 15 more minutes before being approached by a server. A staff person/manager came to our table, apologized profusely for the delay and offered to pay for our meal on the house. We were blown away by this unnecessary offer. We're from D.C. and unfortunately that kind of wait is standard. We were visiting Charleston with some friends of ours, and this was one of their favorite fancy restaurants that they wanted to share with us. Perhaps they built it up a little too much, but our experience was less than what we had hoped for. It was very busy, which meant that it was *extremely* loud in there. Because there was a very large party in our room, our waiter could not handle giving decent service to any of his other tables, ours included. Our friend raved about the steaks, and although it was a really good cut of meet, it wasn't really seasoned all that much. It was cooked reasonably well, but it certainly wasn't the best steak I had had -- especially not for the price. It made me wish we had tried one of the Italian dishes, to be honest. I decide to try this on a recent visit to Charleston. I was undecided between the Lasagna or the Blackened steak since I had read some excellent reviews on the steak. I asked the waiter for direction and I decided to try the steak. The "market price" was $33 for and 8 oz filet(it look more like 6 oz) but I had leftovers so who's counting! The steak was good but not wonderful, so I think it was a bit overpriced. The disappointing part of this night out was my service, and it started before I was ever seated. I was basically ignored. I'm not sure if this is because I was probably the only person dining solo, or if the service would have been poor anyway? I had to wait too long to get my check, and in an attempt to expedite the process, I opted to take it to the cashier myself. Even though there were 2 employees at the front, I still had to wait for a third employee to return from the bathroom in order to check out. The service as a whole was really inexcusable, and I left feeling like I was not a valued customer. For this reason I would never return to this restaurant. read more

Joe Fazio's is a Charleston legend. I grew up here, but it's been many years since my last visit. Although not in the best location, the parking lot is big and wel lit. The atmosphere is excellent and our serve gave us just the right amount of attention. The food was ok---Olive Garden's salad dressing is much more flavorful. My canelloni had a stuffing that contained veal and spinach, it was good but not great. My wife had linguini with marinara sauce and shrimp. the dish needed more garlic for her taste and the shrimp wasn't seasoned. the atmosphere is what makes this a place worth visiting. read more

Joe Fazio's Is known Charleston wide. Its a great place, but the food has slowly declined over the years. They also need a remodel. Dust and dirt all over the place and its very dim in there. The servers are very good but they have to visit the tables so often since they serve such small drink glasses. read more

This is an old style Italian yes a little dated but i think that's what i liked about the place. Kinda reminds me of the old school Italian restaurants i go to in RI & CT. The service was very good place and the place is very clean. The food is traditional Italian type like spaghetti and meatballs, chicken parm etc. all at pretty reasonable prices. Living in Philadelphia, with a 1st generation Italian fiancé raised in Brooklyn, italian food is nothing new to me. Fazio's is nothing short of an Italian Sunday dinner style atmosphere almost as though you could ask your neighboring table mates for a bite. I have been going to Fazio's since I was a little girl, and now that I live on the other side of the country I make a point to eat here when I visit the area. The atmosphere is great for a family dinner, date night, special occasions, and group outings. The food is the best Italian cuisine in Charleston, hands down. Walking into Fazio's is always a fun experience. With the waitstaff dressed like blackjack dealers and an abundance of kitsch to go around, I really love coming here for the environment. If you can get over the strange and outdated decor, this place is absolutely amazing. From the cheese spread with cantaloupe, to the garlic toast, to the entrees, they put a lot of work into everything that goes on the table. I never would have thought of ordering filet at an Italian restaurant...I always got pasta. Wonderful authentic Italian food! My steak was cooked to a medium rare perfection and the scallops were divine. I loved the little touches like the crackers and cheese dip with a side of fruit, the delicious sauce served with the flavorful sausage appetizer bites, and the old-school decor that probably hasn't changed in 30 years. This spot is a Charleston institution. Sure, the decor is dated and might be slightly dusty but that's the allure of this place -- it's like stepping back in time. Tons of Fazio family photos adorn the walls along with vast mirrors, some going almost wall-to-wall. Not every restaurant should be trendy or simplistically decorated. Stuck in another era, Fazio's is truly something special. The food is pretty tasty. It's not going to be the best Italian you've ever had but it's certainly better than going to some chain restaurant. If you're not much for more traditional Italian food, try a steak. They're usually very well prepared. I've never experienced bad service here and they have their own parking lot behind the building. My only complaint is that it can end up being pricey. If that doesn't bother you, give this place a shot. I doubt you'll regret it. read more

My family and I have been customers of Fazio's for more than 35 years and I can honestly say I'll never return after our dinner tonight because of management. Our waiter wasn't the problem, the food wasn't an issue, but the lady manager was a huge problem. We had a party of 10, made reservations at 530 and were seated shortly after arriving. Our waiter did a good job with our needs considering it was prom night so they were busy, let me stress that I've been on this restaurant when it was much more busy with a large party and didn't have this kind of issue. Around 7pm we finished with dessert, waiter went to get the checks...7:42p he came back with our checks, we all immediately gave him our payments, at 8pm my friends with a child with them went to ask what was taking so long. After that the manager lady came and lectured my whole table like we were bad little children for asking why it was taking so long. She didn't apologize in the least and blamed us for paying with cards instead of combining our checks into one. My family are patient, kind people and were treated very badly by a place in which we have always been loyal. I won't return and I doubt my family will either. Don't waste your time, pick a restaurant that will actually value you as a customer. read more

Went here with my 6 year-old nephew and husband. Upon arrival, the waiting area was very crowded with only tight standing room. I asked the hostess (daughter of the owner) if we could stand right outside the front door to wait, since so crowded and we had a young (well-behaved) child with us, and if she would open the door to get us when our table was ready. She said "NO" even though it would have literally required her to walk literally no more than5 -8 steps from her hostess desk. On another visit, this same hostess loudly berated an older lady working there (who appeared to be a member of the owner's family - perhaps mother or grandmother) in front of the waiting patrons. It was the most the most deplorable behavior that I have ever witnessed by any restaurant employee anywhere. Prices are moderate to high, food is ok, atmosphere/decor is dated but typical Italian. Have not returned since the second incident of unacceptable hostess behavior. My family has chosen not to frequent this establishment as we will not pay to be treated rudely and to witness what borders upon verbal abuse to elders. read more
