Came in a half an hour before closing. Very nice waitress. All of our food and bread were delicious. Would highly recommend if you are in Charleston and love Italian cuisine!! Laid back atmosphere and welcoming staff. read more

Zero stars. Unless you've been going here for 60 years like a degenerate uncultured boomer that doesn't have a palate, then you're going to think this place is trash. Bland food, runny sauce, and over priced. Lunch spaghetti with a drink was $24 including tip. Awful deal and awful food. Also, server wasn't Italian = negative 5 stars. read more

The first meal I had upon arriving in Charley West (1972) was at Leonoro's Restaurant. I became a regular for the entire time that I lived there. One of the highest compliments that I can give is that the food is very comparible to my Italian grandmother's, the standard by which I judge aii Italian food. read more

The food was absolutely delicious; the sauce and garlic bread, in particular, were very savory. I personally ordered the large spaghetti & meatballs from the pasta portion of the menu, and my dad had the lasagna & meatballs, which he made several positive comments on himself. Waiting, in my opinion, is part of the atmosphere, and the good food spoke for itself when it arrived, apologizing with the very obvious care and dedication the meals clearly took. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a night out with family or a romantic date with that special person in your life. Me and my family 100% look forward to supporting this restaurant to the full extent as well in the future! read more

The food is very good, love the salad and house dressing. Service is always very good. Pleasant environment.

Excellent sauce! I'm usually not overjoyed with Italian cuisine. But I am overjoyed with this food. The sauce is made fresh every morning and you can taste the freshness. The entire meal was perfect. Highly recommend. Obviously there's a reason they've been here so long!! read more

Today Tony and I had a very nice late lunch early dinner at Leonoro's in Charleston WV on the East End of town since 1915. It was Tony's first time here and my third. Tony ordered a Budweiser and I ordered Half-Half Iced Tea with Lemon. We both ordered the Spaghetti with 2 Meatballs Lunch Special with a Salad and Bread//Butter. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. We were both overly stuffed!! The lunch portion was more than enough food!! Definitely going back!! The sauce was KILLER!!! MEATBALLS awesome and Bread divine!!! Loved everything and every bite!!! read more

Sub par food and sub par service. Not much selection in dishes. No children's menu. Didn't taste homemade.

Absolutely the Best Italian Restaurant!!! Been going there near 40 years. Always excellent

The food is always excellent and the service is quick and friendly and it feels like you're at home eating very comfortable and the people that eat there are friendly. It's like you have old friends meeting up course we always run into people we know because everybody knows it's a good place eat. read more

What can I say about Leonaro's that hasn't already been said about the great George Carlin, Larry David, and Jerry Seinfeld? They are simply the best at what they do. There isn't a bad meal on the menu. The staff is wonderful. The ownership is wonderful and I'm gonna go out on a limb and just say there's not a better Italian joint in all of West Virginia. Agree with me disagree with me, it is of no consequence because you are wrong. read more

Leonoro's is a staple place to eat for my family and I! Fresh and always tasty, I have never had a complaint about the food or the service I received. read more

Awesome spaghetti! My great grandmother went here many years ago so we thought we would try it. The spaghetti is a large portion and was really tasty, the sauce is flavorful. The cannoli was also really good it was towards the sweeter side which I like. The flavors tasted authentic. The staff was very attentive and nice, we got a to go order at the end to bring home to family and they made it quickly. Plenty of parking in the back. Inside was full by the end of the meal but still rather quiet. I would definitely go back again read more

This is my favorite Italian restaurant in the state! I love their red sauce, & the house salad dressing! The BEST meatballs I've ever had. The place is always tidy & cozy. The service is always outstanding. I highly recommend Leonoro's! read more

It's in a convenient location, quite close to the Clay Center. While on vacation, I decided to stop by here and grab some food for lunch. Ordered the manicotti, cheese ravioli and meatballs, lemonade, spaghetti and meatballs, and some garlic bread. The guy serving me was friendly and professional. He joked around a bit and refilled by drinks quite often. The setting is old school, not too fancy. The place I was sitting at had some leaks though. So, while I was eating, some water started to drop from the ceiling, but I wasn't too bothered. The food was more expensive than I would have expected it to be. Since everything in West Virginia seems to be cheaper than in Pittsburgh, I don't think this is just a different priced market. They're just overpriced, and by quite a margin. The manicotti (came with 3) were almost $17! The portions were also quite small, even for lunch. They definitely don't justify the price. The quality and flavor wasn't anything special. The raviolis tasted started, and the manicotti seemed to have noodles that are a bit too thick and not enough ricotta. It was topped with only a little bit of melted cheese. They both tasted okay. Leonoro's does give ample servings of tomato sauce. I will say that their lemonade is pretty good, and it's a good enough deal if you get a refill or two. The spaghetti and meatballs weren't anything outstanding, but they were the best out of all the dishes I tried. A bit better portion, decent meatballs, and spaghetti that is cooked well. Meatball servings are very small (only 2 per serving, and they are small). All in all, this place seems to have good salads from what I've hear, but their pasta is very mediocre at best. If you come here, I'd recommend the spaghetti with meatballs. *Photos are of leftovers read more

I'm honestly giving this place 3 stars just because I think we should all try to support small businesses. Prices are kinda above average and portions were small; especially considering my hubby and I both ordered a large. I've posted some photos for reference. With that being said--the food isn't anything that will wow you. The tomato sauce seems to be the same that they use for all of their dishes, and it's just tomato and salt. I've had a lot of Italian pasta dishes and I personally appreciate more layers to seasoning palettes in a pasta. I prefer some sort of garlic bread, the bread that they serve does seem fresh but it's just cold slices of sourdough (I think it's sourdough). Support small businesses and give them a shot, but don't expect a dish that you'll crave getting from there the next time. read more

There is really nothing like an old school family Italian Restaurant. I love it! I had the ravioli, salad and bread. I truly believe that nothing here would be bad. They had a workman like efficiency and were 100 percent confident of everything they do. My parents wanted to come but were unable to get in the front door with their walkers. The staff had us drive around the back and come in through the very clean kitchen. Very nice service. My family goes a lot (I do not live in Charleston) and they always love it. read more

Food was below mediocre. Meatball sandwich was soggy on uncooked white bread, garlic bread soggy, lasagna was super bland, $5 for a side salad with old moldy lettuce and what tasted like expired ranch. Only plus was the waitress who was friendly and respectful. Overall, worst "Italian" food in Charleston. read more

My husband and I were visiting Charleston, WV, and had dinner at Leonoro's Spaghetti House. It's a wonderful family-owned restaurant that's a fixture of downtown Charleston and has been in business since 1915. Located in a brick building, it looks almost like a house, and when you walk in you feel like you've stepped back into the 1930s--in a good way! The entire staff was very friendly, and every person was obviously a part of the community. They know their customers and their city and serve them well. Special kudos to Mallory, our waitress, who was FANTASTIC! She met us at the front door and, even though it was close to closing time, she assured us that we had time to order and enjoy our meal. Despite serving multiple tables (as the restaurant was still busy), Mallory was friendly and kind and took time to guide us through the food and drink choices and provide recommendations to us. She was efficient and ensured our food arrived quickly, and stopped by several times during dinner to ensure we were enjoying our meals and had everything we needed. She even stopped and chatted with us after dinner, after the other diners had left, to tell us a little about the city and some local sites we might be interested in visiting. The restaurant boasts a menu of authentic Italian dishes which would suit either vegetarians or carnivores. Everything is definitely made fresh and onsite with great care in the preparation and is absolutely delicious! We had green salads to start, with local greens and the house dressing (a tomato-based vinaigrette). My husband ordered a medium-size plate of meat ravioli, and I had a half-order of lasagna (with a glass of merlot on the side). The pastas were excellent, and the sauce was extremely tasty. Leonoro's makes a red sauce that's not marinara (which is offered as an alternative). It was smoother and milder with a faintly sweet flavor. We ordered garlic bread (and were given a double order for the same price!) that was also quite tasty. We didn't order dessert so we can't comment on the selection, but we saw other tables enjoying the offerings after their meals and they looked scrumptious. They have a good wine selection, both by the bottle and the glass. The prices were reasonable compared to other restaurants in the area and other Italian restaurants we've visited, and a great value considering the high quality of our meals that we enjoyed. The restaurant has an intimate atmosphere without being stuffy and is good for both families and couples dining out. We will DEFINITELY return to Leonoro's on our next visit to Charleston! Our mouths are already watering at the prospect of another fantastic meal! read more

Delicious as always! Lasagna and meatballs so yummy and a staple of downtown Charleston.

Old school-type establishment. The guys working the front of the house/tables were straight forward, but friendly. Food was quick and tasty. Prices were decent, especially for portion size and quality. Would recommend. read more

My husband and I cane here while visiting from out of town. The service alone is why I gave this place 3 stars. Our waiter was very personable and knowledgeable about the food. Honestly the food was just okay. Nothing bad about it but I wouldn't rave about it. I've never had Veal Parm that wasn't breaded. They did go above and beyond to remake my dish and bread the veal. I thought that was great. Overall nice date spot. read more

Heard so many good things about this place. Had to see for myself. The food is over priced and portions are small. They use very little seasoning. Food is bland. Local joint that's been here since 1915 Started out as a confectionary by 2 italian immigrants. They should have stayed with the confection gig. By the looks of the outside, I felt like I was going to a sit down with Tony soprano. When you enter in it's like going to taco bell. I was expecting "mamma mia" special secret spaghetti sauce and meatball recipes and what I got was major disaapointment!!!! Too expenive for a plate of mediocre pasta and bland meatballs, I ate becuase I was hungry and did not have lunch. I shouldve gone to krogers supermarket and bought bertolli. On top of no star service, this place can close and it would never be missed. And who the hell up charges for a basket of crappy toast??? Avoid this place!!!! I have been eating here for 34 years, if you are looking for Fancy this isn't it. If you are looking for homemade, and quality this is the place. One of the owners is usually there, and if their not, one of the kids are. If you don't like something tell them, they will fix it. This is a family owned restaurant, they are great people. My father took us to their original little restaurant on Broad Street when I was a little girl. I still remember Frank and seeing Joe behind the counter. They have the best spaghetti I have ever had. I compare all other spaghetti sauce and meatballs to theirs (the gold standard). So far, no one else quite measures up. Every time I return for a visit, I have to go to Leonoro's. I have taken my children and my grandchildren there too. read more

The wife and I ate at Leonora's yesterday afternoon for the 1st time since 1986-87, and we really enjoyed the meal. The wife got their luncheon portion of spaghetti which included a salad and bread, and I got the large spaghetti plate that includes bread. I think their spaghetti sauce is very good, far better than most offered by other favorite area restaurant's. How did I rate Leonora's? The food was excellent and I give it a solid 5, the service was great and gets a 5, the facility is small but very adequate and gets a 5, and the meal is a little pricey so the value gets a 4 (if they would add a salad to their spaghetti dish they would get a 5), so I rate Leonora's a pretty solid 5. Will we return to Leonora's? We sure will when in the area again! read more

If you want a hip place, go somewhere else. I happen to adore their meatballs (size of a baby's fist, fyi) and enjoy the sauce too. And maybe-just maybe-the reason you're getting less stellar service than you want is because you're acting like a jerk. Every time I've been they've treated me like family. They do charge for their garlic bread, not going to lie. read more

This is a good place to eat if you like "traditional" Italian sauce w/ meatballs. That is their specialty. I personally do not care for spaghetti, so I order mine over rigatoni. It's better suited for heavier sauces and is great with meatballs. Their salad is simple and nothing to write home about, but their tomato-based house dressing is yummy. I recommend ordering garlic toast. Yes, it's a separate charge but the meal is not complete, without it. *For those who feel the menu is a bit overpriced, I would suggest going before 4pm when salad is included in the lunch special. And a note to out-of-towners: This is not an upscale Italian eatery so don't expect to be blown away... read more
