I hired Joel to do a backyard remodel at my home. He is a complete scammer DO NOT USE HIM FOR ANY WORK! I paid him a total of $35,000 for my backyard and the quality of work was terrible, literally terrible. He lied throughout the job, did not show up when he said he would, made every excuse in the world to not get the work done. He blamed it on weather, which there were probably 8-10 days of beautiful weather that he never showed up to work, but would come out and shovel snow on days when it was snowing - which was so unnecessary. My husband and I consistently asked for a sketch of the backyard which he kept putting off and never gave us. To this day my yard has issues and is not done. I will now lose even more money to hire an actual bonded & insured business. Lets go over some of the many problems: 1. The fence he put up is splintering and breaking all around my yard 2. The concrete work that he subcontracted out was TERRIBLE my concrete at the bottom of my yard is so rough and hard to walk on, chipping all over, you cant walk on it barefoot or it actually hurts. 3. He "built" a garden bed that was bigger than we agreed on and never asked to measure, so he built it too far back and my brand new shed would not fit where I planned for it to go. 4. He did a terrible job leveling the ground so the fence looks crooked from where the concrete is totally uneven. 5. He agreed to install a "hidden gate", said he had the materials and then never did. Then to make it worse, he made notches in my brand new fence and stuck a piece of fence on it - so you have to LIFT the fence up and move it to the side in order to use that area as a "gate" - it has since broken the back of my new fence. 6. The flagstone has tons of imperfections, places where he missed flagstone and filled the ground in with sand, uneven flagstone & broken pieces of flagstone 7. The front flagstone he installed looks terrible and the cement they used to piece it together looks even worse! My front porch looks DIRTY 24/7 and there's no way to fix it. 8. Sprinklers he installed were broken and he never even ran them to check. 9. The deck he was supposed to sand & stain. He did not sand it and when he stained it he completed sprayed my AC unit and the side of my house, and never came to fix it or remove the paint. 10. When his subcontractor messed up the concrete the first time it looks weeks for them to tear it up and re-pour - and he asked for MORE money because he "ran out of supplies"!!! 11. When they re-poured the concrete they threw slabs of concrete under my deck. I asked them to remove those pieces but instead they put uneven boards up to hide the underneath part of the deck. 12. Wood that they used to repair the deck was broken and the stain is tinted ORANGE and already peeling and flaking everywhere. 13. The gate that he made (2) for two sides of my home is completely uneven 14. The lights he installed he left the cords completely visible and did not run them underground where he should have. 15. He NEVER called before he dug - I am LUCKY he did not cut my utility lines. I asked if I needed to call to order someone to come out and mark and he said he would - he never did. 16. The guy has extreme drinking issues, which I witnessed on the job. 17. He promised the concrete and flagstone work to be warrantied and I have received NOTHING for that. I hired Joel in January and in May I am still dealing with items NOT finished. The day of the final walk through I brought up ALL of these problems. He said he would fix it all that day and had many workers with him. He guilted me in front of the concrete workers to pay them. So I did - SO STUPID OF ME. And not even two hours later they ALL LEFT. My yard has not been finished to this day. It is so sad. He currently has a judgement against him - so while I wanted to sue him - I will never get any money back. I was so trusting, kind and generous to this guy and he completely screwed us over. PLEASE do background checks on people before you hire them. Favela Landscaping is NOT a real business, they are not insured or bonded. He just made this up! Joel Rojas is a complete scam artist. And if you don't believe me he did the same thing to a lady in 2020 and she wrote a review of these same issues. Learn from our mistakes. This guy is pathetic! Best part of it all after I explained this all to him - and he ignored me for weeks - he had the audacity to say he didn't understand why I was upset. Typical criminal for ya! read more

Joel was the only person who would come later in the day to give me an estimate. That was very telling because he stayed late to demo the old deck I had in my backyard, fix the posts to lay down the concrete, and prepare the soil underneath to get ready for the pour. It took joel no longer than a few working days to do all of that, in the heat, and with myself unfortunately moving some goalposts throughout the project because i'm indicisive. Needless to say, the end result was absolutely incredible - he did an excellent job front to back and was the most kind and reliable contractor i've hired to date. If you're in the Denver area and you don't go with Favela Landscaping Services for a concrete job, you're doing something wrong. read more

RUN, FAR FAR AWAY FROM THIS DECEITFUL COMPANY! Joel Rojas, of what is supposedly 'Favela Landscaping', is a liar, a crook and a thief. He will seem mostly friendly when you meet him in person (which is VERY RARE) but you'll never hear from him after that. I reached out to several landscaping companies in mid-July to landscape our backyard in early October. Joel seemed eager to connect (not a surprise, looking back now) and came out to our property twice to do a walk through of what we were looking for to give us a quote and then shortly after to confirm the details before he started. He never took pictures, he never wrote anything down and we had to correct him a few times in the proposal process, but he never seemed phased. Then, once we signed the contract and paid the initial deposit ($6,500), we only saw him twice at our property over the course of 8 weeks. The only thing he did during this time was demo the backyard and have materials (rock and dirt) dumped on the side of our house and in the street (of which they have not moved since - IN THE STREET). He didn't even ask if he could put them in the street (which he can't, unless they were moved/used within a few days). During the backyard demo, he and his 'colleague' also cut both our Xcel power line and Comcast cable line (Both of which had been marked clearly by each of the respective utilities. Joel claimed immediately that it wasn't him/his company who did it but it clearly was as we could tell from the dig site that was exactly where they were digging. What a hassle we had to have both companies come out and repairs the lines before they could be cleared to continue working (only took a day or so). I've tried reaching out to Joel via text/cell about 20 times over the course of the 8 weeks. He'll never respond or answer right away or even within a few days. And when he does, it's with an excuse saying that something came up or he's delayed or someone in his family is sick, yadda yadda. You get the picture. He also had the nerve to post videos he took of his partner demoing our backyard and posting that they started a new job. I commented on the video that I'd like them to actually finish the work but saw it was deleted. Again, not surprised. The initial story he gave my fiance and I was that he worked for his uncle's business, Monte Vista Landscaping (which is out of Lafayette, CO) and that he was starting his own business and so we thought we would support a growing business owner (since we're both small business owners ourselves). Now I know the only thing he's good at is telling stories/lies. Also, the very few times he did come to our property he seemed out of it (high, perhaps?) which made us skeptical. read more

Joel has taken care of our private road for two years--showing up whenever it snowed to plow, even coming out in the spring to smooth out the potholes that were created during the winter. And his prices are very reasonable. We hired him to grade our road this fall--it is dirt with 7 residents on it--before the snow hit. After starting the job, his truck suddenly broke down for which it took some time to get repaired. He stayed in contact, letting us know what was going on and how long it would take, and ended up throwing in a snowplow day to make up for the lost time. I debated leaving a review or not, however after seeing Joel's last review of him taking $35 k from a client....I figured I should share my experiences. Joel was hired to do some concrete work and was paid $15,000. Job never got finished and what he did do was absolutely horrible quality. It had to be torn out and re-done. There were days he wouldn't show up and make excuses. All he has ever done is make excuses as to why he can't pay the money back or why he couldn't get the job done and now just plain out ignores everything. He has a huge drinking problem! Great job! I have hired Joel to do snow removal for my home this winter. Because we are out of town for three months, I have had to rely on Joel to take care of snow removal as needed. Joel did not complete the job he was hired to do and then did not refund any part of my $2800 deposit. Prior to my firing him from the job he would not show up on days he said he would or leave after an hour and never return. He said he used my deposit to buy materials but never did. I worked with him for months trying to get some amount of work done. All that was completed was removing my prior healthy sod. He then left it on my curb for a month. All other work he did was done wrong so it has to be redone. The photo below is current state of my back yard. I would never hire this company again nor recommend them to anyone. Originally hired to scrape, regrade, add sprinklers and lay new sod in my front yard. Sod was delivered before any grading or sprinklers had been put in. Big mistake. I was asked to pay the final amount before the work was done, twice - red flag. Multiple days - 5 day stretches went by with no communication, worksite left in complete mess with beer bottles laying around my yard. Never came back to pick up trash he left including wooden pallets that sod was delivered on. Overall: 1. Lack of attention to detail. 2. Little to no communication. 3. Little understanding of project time lines. 4. Generally poor workmanship. I ended up asking him to leave before the project was completed and did not pay him the full amount. read more

Hired Joel to do a concrete retaining wall. Paid half upfront, supposedly for materials and equipment. The following day, he came over with a mini loader and broke a sprinkler head, tore the sprinkler line, and cracked an existing retaining wall. We had to keep texting him for the following 3 days without answer after he didn't show up or text us. He came up with the excuse that his concrete guy had to leave on an emergency, but offered to refund me the money. I accepted the offer, and he gave me a check that bounced. Since then, it's been about 3 weeks of him coming up with excuse after excuse for not refunding me. Suing him now. Everyone, beware of Joel Rojas Favela. Pay a legit contractor for your landscaping needs and avoid the hassle of dealing with someone who is either a con-artist, or the most incompetent, disorganized landscaper. read more

Our new side gate and a piece of our sewer line were broken by Joel while he was doing work on our yard, he said he would replace those items, but it's been 3 weeks and I am still waiting for him to respond to my messages so he can replace what he broke. He also said he would come back to our home to complete the work he started since it was not done properly. Hired Joel to redo an old garden area that had railroad ties. Joel and his crew did an excellent job removing the old ties and replacing them with new stones. Also, weeded my entire backyard, laid some weed block and new mulch and trimmed some bushes. The area now looks fantastic, all at a very reasonable price. The actual work (landscaping - excavation and dirt removal) was 1 star as it was not completed as agreed (although he promised to rectify it - with no specific date). I have to do quite a lot of work myself. The contractor (Joel) also did not clean up the mess on the street after the dirt was hauled away. In addition, logistics and work morale were non-existent. The contractor (Joel) arrived always late than agreed. Most of the times even 2 hours late. This was a 1.5-day project, however, the contractor worked on it 4 days (not working a full day even, but only a couple of hours at a time). These 4 days span out for 2 weeks! The contractor (Joel) also "borrowed" my wheelbarrow without permission and did not return it yet and it seems he never will. I have asked him multiple times to return it but he was only promising all the time but never delivering. I am considering to involve the police at this point. read more
