RUN, FAR FAR AWAY FROM THIS DECEITFUL COMPANY! Joel Rojas, of what is supposedly 'Favela Landscaping', is a liar, a crook and a thief. He will seem mostly friendly when you meet him in person (which is VERY RARE) but you'll never hear from him after that. I reached out to several landscaping companies in mid-July to landscape our backyard in early October. Joel seemed eager to connect (not a surprise, looking back now) and came out to our property twice to do a walk through of what we were looking for to give us a quote and then shortly after to confirm the details before he started. He never took pictures, he never wrote anything down and we had to correct him a few times in the proposal process, but he never seemed phased. Then, once we signed the contract and paid the initial deposit ($6,500), we only saw him twice at our property over the course of 8 weeks. The only thing he did during this time was demo the backyard and have materials (rock and dirt) dumped on the side of our house and in the street (of which they have not moved since - IN THE STREET). He didn't even ask if he could put them in the street (which he can't, unless they were moved/used within a few days). During the backyard demo, he and his 'colleague' also cut both our Xcel power line and Comcast cable line (Both of which had been marked clearly by each of the respective utilities. Joel claimed immediately that it wasn't him/his company who did it but it clearly was as we could tell from the dig site that was exactly where they were digging. What a hassle we had to have both companies come out and repairs the lines before they could be cleared to continue working (only took a day or so). I've tried reaching out to Joel via text/cell about 20 times over the course of the 8 weeks. He'll never respond or answer right away or even within a few days. And when he does, it's with an excuse saying that something came up or he's delayed or someone in his family is sick, yadda yadda. You get the picture. He also had the nerve to post videos he took of his partner demoing our backyard and posting that they started a new job. I commented on the video that I'd like them to actually finish the work but saw it was deleted. Again, not surprised. The initial story he gave my fiance and I was that he worked for his uncle's business, Monte Vista Landscaping (which is out of Lafayette, CO) and that he was starting his own business and so we thought we would support a growing business owner (since we're both small business owners ourselves). Now I know the only thing he's good at is telling stories/lies. Also, the very few times he did come to our property he seemed out of it (high, perhaps?) which made us skeptical.

    Unfinished back yard.

The crew showed on time even though we gave Joel a short notice. Quality work and reasonable price. Would hire him again.

Over the years, the plants and shrubs required a great deal of trimming and maintenance, yet they still outgrew their locations. Highland came in and removed all the overgrown shrubs and replace our entire 30 year old, 12-zone sprinkler system. Highland installed a high quality Rain Bird system with three manifolds beautifully built and professionally wired with waterproof wire nuts. The quality and attention to detail is second to none. Highland partners with a local nursery that has an exceptional selection of high quality bushes, trees, shrubs and perennials. We were able to select exactly what we were looking for with their guidance. Highland utilizes software capable of creating 3D renderings of the landscape with the plants we selected at full maturity to ensure that we were getting the curb appeal we envisioned. Highland doesn't hesitate to devote a large crew to a landscaping project when its required. Every Highland employee that we interfaced with was courteous and respectful. Once the plants were delivered, they planted with the same care and attention to detail. They ran two driplines to every plant and ensured that the right size emitters were used based on the plants water needs. Highland has skilled craftsmen that take pride in their work. They go above and beyond to ensure that you are pleased with the final result. We had a particularly challenging area, that we were not sure how to address. Highland came up with a unique solution that they implemented beautifully. From the beginning of a project, Highland listened to our concerns and goals. Their proposal was very detailed and addressed all of our desires. As with any landscaping project, there were additions and changes along the way. Through out the process, there was always open communication about any additional costs and the final billing was clear and transparent with no surprises. We could not be happier with the results. We would highly recommend them once again. Positives: Communicative, dependable, knowledgeable, caring, they take pride in their workmanship, and they stand behind what they promise. They adhere to codes and standards and homeowner safety is their highest priority. Services: Landscaping and planting, irrigation system, sod and masonry work.

While on vacation, Roberto…read moreLandscaping showed up to our house and replaced half the sod and left the remaining area exposed to bare dirt for two and a half weeks! We were told that they were waiting on the next order of sod to arrive so we were patient enough to wait for this, even though it is unacceptable to not complete the work at the same time. When they did show up, they did not have enough sod to replace the remaining section that we had waited for over two weeks for. They then went to home depot and purchased sod that was half dead and installed this adjacent to the sod they had installed earlier that day. In addition, they did not prep or grade the subgrade, and they also left a section of the old grass in place (never replaced this). We now have a front yard that has three different types of grass. We have severe low spots in areas, they were extremely messy and left clay/mud all over the sidewalk and on the grass. We asked for proof that the sod was purchased from the same place, and in addition to the species of grass that installed so we understand what type we have for maintenance purposes. They never provided this information to us. Here is the kicker, we never authorized them to do the work! They stated that they were scammed by someone else. In addition, we had just put our house on the market! This severely affected our showings and sale of our house. We have given them more than a few opportunities to correct these issues we had brought up to them and they have completely gone dark on us. They are giving us no other choice but to report this to the authorities and take this to a legal standpoint. They never met us in person, and we never signed an agreement to have any work done. This is simply bad business practice on top of the poor work performance of a landscaping company (industry standards and best business practices). We are victims in this whole situation and are in total shock that this happened in the first place. Now we are burdened to deal with this fiasco they created.

I have revised my review and it is not a positive one. I am going to file a BBB complaint as well…read more I had to hire another Landscaping Contractor to fix the issues left behind regarding the SOD/Sprinkler system rezoning/Sprinkler head installation (Front yard). FRSR made promises that were put in the estimate I received and things sounded great--but many of them were not honored after they left. Communication was spotty at best, and they did not respond to my concerns after completing the job. The project scope required a new wireless sprinkler system which was never installed. Additionally, They never called to confirm I was happy when they left. They were supposed to come out and inspect and test the sprinkler system since it was re-zoned for the front yard. This never happened. They never returned to finish performing the initial spring sprinkler start-up routine to ensure all the zones and sprinkler heads were set up and working properly. As a result, many areas of my lawn died and I had to go with another Landscaping company to resolve the issues with sprinkler heads (some missing parts). This cost me thousands of dollars. Any attempt to get them to fix the issues and install the wireless sprinkler controller was met with excuses or no return phone calls. I feel they really do not care about their customers since they never contacted me or performed any follow-up after they got their final payment. This might be a tactic they use to avoid accountability. Their contract is airtight in their favor, so don't expect them to honor anything not explicitly written. Save yourself the headache and thousands of dollars. There are many reputable landscapers in Colorado--FRSR is not one of them.

Communication was spotty at best, and when they did respond, it often felt evasive or misleading. The project dragged on for weeks with long gaps of inactivity, leaving my yard half-finished and looking like a construction zone. When they finally "completed" the job, the results were sloppy: weed barrier sticking out, uneven concrete with discoloration, and cracks forming within months. Any attempt to get them to fix issues was met with excuses or accusations of being "hostile"--a tactic they seem to use to avoid accountability.
