Stumbled upon this place by accident while window shopping with a friend. The macarons caught my eye (which were okay, but I feel like there is definitely better in the city, especially since you're paying 2.50 a pop. Boxed sets available, however, oddly enough, not sold as 6 but 9). The passionfruit one was my favorite (their signature macaron). I also ended up buying a couple small items as well. The lemon tart was really good. Liked how the meringue was inside the tart. It was $6.95 for the tart which is a little on the pricey side for me. I also had the lychee cake which I really enjoyed, since you can really taste the lychee, but I'll like anything with lychee. Paid street parking out front or walk a few blocks and see if you can stumble upon some free parking. read more

Yesss!!! There's nothing like a good tasty soup and sandwich. The sandwich board outside the restaurant advertised the lunch special at $9.99, so we went in. The ham and cheese was sooo good. Delish! The tomato onion soup was also very very good. I'll definitely go back again. Lots of delicious looking baked goods on display as well. Meh. Just another dessert shop. Faubourg is a nice cafe and bakery that serves french breads and pastries. They also do cakes and sandwiches. I just found their pastries especially to be too sweet for my liking. It was hard to distinguish all the flavors when all I could think about was getting a glass of water between bites. Macarons are a 3 star. I do like their varied variety, and their "unique" flavors. The fillings and shells just didn't seem all to great. The feet on the shells were non-existant on some of my macarons, wasn't happy about it since they should know better. It's what makes a good macaron, the feet, come on! The crust was also a bit soggy? Perhaps sitting out in not ideal temperatures will do this. Service was not nice. The girls, yes plural were not very helpful and didn't seems to be very happy or delightful, put on a happy face guys! Asked for a bag, it seemed pretty painful for them - so you want me to carry this box of pastries around? Ok. Never stopped loving the food here; I am especially happy to return more frequently now that a number of the previous staff have gone and service vastly improved. Swung by late in the day to see if there were any goodies left. No expectations. While I waited for my whole wheat loaf to be sliced, the super friendly customer in front was telling me how closely Faubourg's macarons resemble those of the macaron royalty in France -- the famous Laduree. Now, I am not a macaron fan to begin with but I was sold by her words. She really seemed to know what's up; you know, the money-lookin' type who lives the great life with nothing but the best. Mmmm......perhaps I would give it a try next time..... Oh right....about their regular loaf bread....crispy crust, crumb has a slight chewiness to give it a good bite. It's pretty close in flavour and texture to some of the best I have ever had. This is the kind of bread that I prefer to enjoy plain rather than with spread or anything else. Kid you not -- I ate almost the entire loaf during the drive home!!!! Yeah, it's that good -- only if you are not given a stale loaf. Their garlic cheese loaf and brioche are also to die for. So what else is awesome here? -croissants: THE best in town, hands down. Most light and flaky I've ever had, bursting with a rich buttery goodness. Even Thomas Haas must move aside on this one. -sacristain: not your typical stick-like pastry found at any old coffee shop; again, so light and flaky there is no question about the atrocious amount of lard and butter put into it but amazingly, it does not give any greasy feeling in the chew. The texture is more akin to a tasty version of a sweet, super-crunchy phyllo pastry. -lemon tart -afternoon tea They also have a bistro that serves lunch, as well as brunch and dinner on the weekends. A cafe/bakery located in Kerrisdale. I wasn't craving macarons that day so I decided on the pistachio croissant. Sweet and slightly savory is almost always the best combination. I was surprised by how loud it got in there. It wasn't deafening loud, but I expected a quieter environment while people were reading their morning papers. If you've been to Paris, you would have passed through a lot of really nice French bakeries. Faubourg is a French bakery situated in Kerrisdale which tries to emulate a Parsian bakery. They've gone as far as adding the word Paris to its name. The place was packed with people and there were long lineups. There was a small selection of baked good such as cakes, breads, and pastries. I liked their baguettes. It's chewy, a bit soft with a hint of buttery flavour. I didn't have to add butter and I still enjoyed eating it. I didn't feel like I was in a Parisian bakery because the window displays were really empty and variety of pastries on display were on the low side. I came here during the afternoon and where were all the baked goods? I saw mostly premade sandwiches like what you see in Starbucks and a lot of overpriced croissants. A bonus is that there are a lot of chairs and tables. It's a great place to get some baguettes. I'd like to see more French pastries and Parisian style macarons. read more

I walked by this sweet gem, looked in the window at the baked pastries and I was pulled in. The delectable aromas of fresh bread and viennoiseries (french breakfast pastries) filled my nose and I couldn't help but try a couple of the offerings, a chocolate croissant and pain aux raisins with a bit of parmesean. The place was bustling @ 12pm, but they had many people on staff and they quickly attended to my needs. Both of them were brought from the bakery in the back, the croissant was great, with a good helping of chocolate but not too sweet. The bottom of it was a little too crunchy for my taste, but overall I would get one again. The raisin pastry was awesome! Just a bit of sugar and cheese on top of yeasted butter dough and raisins baked in...love it! I wanted to try more pastries and their coffee, but my veins were already coursing with coffee today, and I want to have another reason to come back. A swank little French bakery in Kerrisdale is just what this neighbourhood needs. It has the usual stop and drop-in seating up in the first half of the bakery and at the back, a served area if you want to have a little more quiet time with your friend. read more

Oh my, oh my, oh my. Heavenly !!! A very small french pastry shop. Usually super crowded during the weekends, but not as crowded during the weekdays. They don't have a huge selection of sandwiches, snacks, or pastries, but what they do have is amazing. Different flavoured macarons, cakes, and croissants. Legitimately, their almond croissants and vanilla lattes have pushed me to working out three mornings a week before work. I'm not even joking. This place is fantastic. Their breads are delicious, their pastries are buttery, flaky, and just the right amount of sweet, and their espresso is phenomenal. It's located right nextdoor to Cafe Artigiano and I would truthfully choose a Faubourg latte over Artigiano any day. Their baristas know what they are doing. I work in the area, and htis is also our office's favourite afternoon pastry spot. On rough days our office manager comes in with huge boxes of their delicious vanilla custard tarts with fresh berries adn passion fruit glaze. Yep. It's great. They have fast service but with my visit today it was a little ~too~ fast: I came in with the intention of ordering some macarons and a few petit fours, but I only managed to order the macarons and 1 petit four before the girl at the register cut me off mid sentence by barking my total at me and walking away to pack up the macarons. Anyone could have seen that I wasn't finished with my order: I was still looking in the case and was in the process of saying "I'll get one chocolate cake and one...." before she cut me off with my total. I stood there dumbfounded for a second. I honestly considered just walking right out the door and not bothering but I didn't have time to go anywhere else. For how great the food is, this interaction left me with a bad taste in my mouth. For the amount of money I shelled out ($40+ for 18 macarons and 1 little chocolate cake) you'd think I would have received enough customer service to have been able to complete my take-out order. If I could, I would rate Faubourg as 3 1/2 stars. I stopped by here on an early Saturday morning. They were just putting out all of the pastries and baked goods when I walked in. I liked how they even have a sit-down area in the back with table service. I ended up getting: 2 regular croissants: nice and buttery, although baked a little "browner" than most. 2 almond croissants: not bad, though I liked the regular croissants more. My favorite twice-baked almond croissant is still Bakery Nouveau in Seattle. 1 box of 9 macarons: these were decent, with my favorites being the cassis and lemon flavors. 4 croissants and a box of macarons came out to $28. They have a couple of free parking spots for the bakery in the back alley. In addition, there is a free parkade in the back as well, so you should be able to find free parking when coming here. read more

A fresh batch of croissants disappears easily in 15 minutes and the cue can be long especially in the morning and mid-afternoon. These croissants are just the right size in between the super-size-me American counterpart and the dainty French ones. You will be satiated no doubt, as you bite into the soft buttery centre through the fluffy and crunch outside for a mouthful of heavenly savory. Other notable items include the Chocolate croissant, double-baked almond croissant, and pistachio croissant. I also hear great things about their dinner rolls and breads. For the ladies, you'll want to come here for the Afternoon Tea as well. I highly recommend the "Pink" selection that gives you few more items than the "Purple" selection. First things first- this isn't the typical quiet french cafe you'd envision in your mind right off the bat. Louder than the street with the 41 bus coming through, Faubourg's hustle and bustle seem to entice the exciting pleasures of any writer's coffee buzz and a childish sweet tooth. It's hard sit near the scarce aisle seats due to dodging frantic mothers buying baked goods for a house party with dangerously hazardous plastic baby carriers or XXXXXL Gucci day bags. So sometimes, I'd strongly recommend their patio seats outside their back door for a more quiet place to chat with the girls. I love my Croissants and Pain au Chocolat. A good croissant should be Buttery, Flaky and Light that easily melts in your mouth. Prior to the opening of Faubourg in Kerrisdale on 41st and West Blvd, I have been satisfying my cravings at La Baguette et L'echalote at Granville Island for which I consider to have one of the best Parisian croissants in Vancouver. Faubourg offers a refined and modern dining experience in a yet small storefront space with limited seating. They offer authentic French bread, pastries, macaroons, desserts, coffees and teas. In addition, Faubourg also has a tea room in the back of the store that offers daily afternoon tea service starting from 12 noon to 5pm at $25.5 per person. Back to my Lovely Croissants - My new Love was found at Faubourg. Trust me - a bite of this croissant will send you to Cloud 9 - a fluffy one. Buttery 4.5/5 - It's super buttery but not too heavy or overwhelming - it is light and melts in your mouth goodness. Flaky 5/5 - The outside is super flaky while the inside is layers of soft and fluffy heaven baked to perfection. Size 3/5 - The croissant is quite small - it is almost half the size of a regular croissant. I can easily down 2 of the Faubourg's. Price 3/5 - You definitely pay for what you get. The croissant is definitely good but on the luxury end at $2.20 each ( remember they are small). Overall - I prefer Fauboug's over La Baguette et L'echalote's for its butteriness and flakiness. But if you are looking for a big and satisfying croissant for breakfast/meal - I would recommend La Baguette et L'echalot - the size is much bigger. If you looking for a 3pm afternoon tea snack - then Faubourg has the perfect croissant for you. read more

I've been to Faubourg 4 times and mostly take out. i've dined in once just for coffee and patsries at the front of the store and not at the bistro area at the back. Their pastries are delicious. I had their Triple Chocolate Decadence which has 3 layers of chocolate mousse, dark, milk and whitechocolate and all dusted with cocoa. I also had their lemon tart which was nice and tart and smooth. I love how theri desserts are just the perfect balance of richness and sweetness. There's nothing I can't stand more than desserts that are cloyingly sweet. Just the other day, I had their croissants. They were amazing! The exterior was golden brown and crisp but inside was soft, flaky and buttery! I had their palmiers as well. Quite expensive considering the size and portions of the cookies. They were nice and buttery as well but a bit on the tough side. I think the caramelized sugar was a bit hard. The palmiers woul've been good if it weren't for that. I also ordered the Canale de Bordeaux. It had a crisp and bittersweet exterior but the inside was a nice soft, mildy sweet custard. The store just opened when I came by to purchase them and they were still slightly warm on the inside. I am looking forward to going back to try their other pastries. I found out the hard way a few months ago that to be able to actually get seated at lunch time in their bistro area is to have a reservation. My friend and I stood there just waiting for a table and there was one that opened up after about 30 minutes of waiting but no one came to us or gave us menus. The waiters kept walking past us. That went on for about 10 minutess or so and my friend and I just decided to leave. That's why Im only giving them 3 starts today and also because their palmiers were tough. I'm a fan of their pastries not so much for specialty coffee. I go to Artigiano for specialty coffee. The pastries are consistent, they know their local clientele especially in this location. Faux pas! Ordered two teas and the almond croissant and the pastry of the month which was peach atop a cream cheese filling. The tea bag was plunked in a mug, with no saucer for the empty bag . Judging by the chewiness both items seemed like they were day old, and the lack of butter in the pastry made it obvious that this was as close to a croissant as a hamburger bun. Sad to say Faux-bourg is miles away from the real thing. Take a visit to Batard or Beaucoup if you want something that is closer to the real deal. read more

I've been macarons for a while now after trying the ones from Thierry and hearing that Faubourg has better ones. When I saw the colorful display at Faubourg, I got super excited and got 9 pieces for $16. I chose everything but the fruity flavours. I found the cappuccino flavor too sweet - border-lining unedible. However, the texture was amazing, flaky and light. The Faubourg classic was really yummy - chocolate filling and light, flaky outside but still a tad sweet. I still have a few more to try, but for now, I have to say the ones at Thierry are better - bigger, less sweet, more flavourful. read more

Lovely place for afternoon tea with the girls! If you want to sit in the dining area where it is a bit more private I'd reccomend a reservation. I've tried a couple other places for tea nearby and thought Faubourg was pretty good! So I've never been to Paris (yet) so I dont know how it compares to the real thing but my friends and I felt like we were in a fancy cafe say in Roppongi Hills, Tokyo. We all got the afternoon tea $25.50 that comes with mini sandwiches, scones, and an assortment of desserts and of course your choice of tea. There was this delicious souffle that they served fresh out of the oven perfectly risen and delicious. The bread for the sandwiches were light and fresh! Perfect for just that -afternoon tea or a light lunch. They serve Mariage Freres tea which is high class tea. They do also have a lunch menu and you can mix it up at the table. If you compre the price of afternoon tea with other locations it's a bit cheaper but the serving size is comparable to the price. Secret Garden and Adonia are more feminine in the decor, but I'd say if you're going with your man for an afternoon tea that Faubourg may be one that is more neutral with the chinaware (plain white with silver trim) and simple square plates. The service I thought was fine. Our pots were refilled when we wanted them to be and we were there for some time and never felt rushed. There are other tea places that restrict your seat for a time slot (common for afternoon tea) but this place was pretty relaxed. I'd come back again! read more

On a Tuesday morning I met a friend for coffee at Faubourg. She was getting her car repaired in the Kerrisdale area and she suggested Faubourg. I was happy to agree. Some places you walk in and it just feels 'right' Faubourg is such a place for me. It just feels like a high end coffee shop without the snottiness! I didn't order much... I just had a coffee and a chocolate croissant both were delicious! The service was good, and we had a relaxing time talking. 2 hours later we left having enjoyed the experience! Green tea passion fruit mousse - looks cute but there is no green tea taste in the mousse; just passion fruit. The lychee gelee inside is okay. If they put chocolate chips in the almond sponge, then they should have indicated on the tag. If they just write 'almond sponge' then it should be just pure almond sponge. Creme Brulee - The taste of rum is light in the vanilla custard, and the vanilla custard just taste like the regular egg custard. The quality of the cakes with the service do not worth $6.95 per individual slice. It is just their name that makes you think they have high quality. read more

As always this place is wonderful. We have been coming here ever since it opened at kerrisdale and were disappointed when we came back one summer and realized the kitchen was closed. However, we continued to visit this place for the coffees and pastries. We tried the brunch, this is the first time we are here after they reopened the kitchen. The menu is limited but the food is good. They gave us four macaroons because they made us waited longer than they wish they had. Mind you we didn't say a thing or ask them why the food was not here yet. However the gesture is refreshing since most of not all restaurants would not bar an eye for the relatively short wait. I've been here many times for the pastries (croissants, chaussons,..) they have always been delicious, so we decided to try their made-to-order crêpe today. We got the vegetarian one. It was very underwhelming! The crêpe was chewy and the filling tasted like steamed veggies, even though they put the béchamel sauce inside. I'm very disappointed in the quality as it seems that has always been a priority. It also took a good 10 mins to make whereas they said it would be 5. Also, as we were waiting for the crêpe, one of the employees was cleaning the little sliding doors to the cakes and sandwiches. He was spraying some blue cleaning solution right at the door. If the door wasn't closed, the cakes and sandwiches will have some blue cleaning solution on it. read more
