I had low expectations for the ramen and wasn't even considering the sushi (I mean, c'mon, I wouldn't risk that). But I've been on a ramen kick lately, since I discovered it a few months ago, so I had to try it, just to say I had, then I'd be done with it. I got a Spicy at #6 hot. I love it. It's got flavor. It's silky. It's got enough pork to satisfy (some places are chinche on the meat). The noodles are nice. It's filling. I'd say it's better than at least 3, and maybe 4, of the other places (all restaurants) I've tried. I'm a fan! And as a side note: the owner dispelled all my fears about the sushi. He's owned restaurants (2) for 15 years, he strikes me as a master. I'll get sushi next time. read more

Ordered a spicy ramen (6 spice), and BBQ pork bun, so I'll split my review for both. 1. BBQ pork buns You get 3 buns for $5 which is a great deal. The pork buns were alright, but not what I was expecting. Rather than a fluffy ball of soft fluffy bun with pork, I received a deep-fried almost-doughnut with very little meat and a side of HONEY? If I adjust my expectations to fair/carnival food, this is dang good. But an asian pork bun? That's not what this is... It's not supposed to be a dessert and it's not supposed to taste more like fry oil than anything else. I don't go to an asian food truck looking for deep fried American fare, but that's what these are. I can see these being a real treat under the right circumstances, but not something that I want to eat with a bowl of ramen. I would not get these again. I couldn't even finish all three because they were so saturated with oil. One of them and I was done. Gave the others to co-workers who enjoyed them about as much as I did. Overwhelming "meh". 2. Spicy Ramen (6 spice) First off, the egg! What is with food truck ramen and just chucking a hard-boiled egg in there? The eggs are supposed to be marinated and savory, but what is added is just a generic hard-boiled egg. It may be my own preference, but the flavor profile does not fit with a savory bowl of ramen, when the egg is usually my absolute favorite part of a bowl of ramen. The fish cake is not a fish cake. At least, as far as I can tell. It doesn't taste like anything at all. This isn't a pro or a con, but I don't know what the point of adding it is. Just to add some color, I guess. I'm used to fish cakes being, you know... fishy. Outside of those nitpicks, the ramen is delicious. The pork is a bit tough, but in good quantity and I didn't mind. The broth is spicy and has a good flavor profile. It actually tastes like it had some TLC put into it rather than the typical Top Ramen-like fare I've come to expect from ramen food trucks. All in all, my experience at Fatty Tuna was better than any other ramen food truck I've had. It's nowhere near competing with the likes of Samurai, Jinya, Koko's, etc... but for a food truck. We tried Fatty Tuna's takoyaki for an "appetizer" at the Breweries and Food Trucks event at Gateway. Great texture (crispier than you usually find, even in fresh Osaka street food in Japan), fair price ($6 for 6 pieces), and served up fresh and hot. And reasonably fast service given that they had quite a line of customers the entire time of the event. We visited six food trucks during the event, so there wasn't the bandwidth for us to try more than one item per truck. But we definitely hope to try Fatty Tuna again for the tonkotsu ramen and sushi rolls! Everything (except possibly the popcorn chicken) was looking very authentic and delicious! read more

I really liked Fatty tuna. I saw them at Daybreak's food truck league and was stoked to see a ramen truck. I order the spicy ramen at a 6/10. It was spicy but I love my ramen that way. It was delicious and the broth was really flavorful. I also loved the pork it had a good amount of fat to meat ratio. I also ordered the tonkotsu ramen that was also really tasty although too mild for me. I think it's perfect for those individuals that dont like spicy food. It does take a while for your food to come out but I didnt mind the wait since I knew I was getting quality ramen. Bonus is that they also serve a variety of sushi rolls that I will have to order next time. The prices were fair and I'll make sure to stop by next time I see their truck. read more

I stumbled across this food truck at our towns roundup and I was not disappointed!!! The Curry Croquettes are TO DIE FOR. They're essentially a twist on a Samosa with the most delightful crunch. The review is for the service, not the food since I never got to try it. They were at Petersen Farms Food Truck Friday. I wanted to try the Miso Ramen, but never did. The service was slower then slow. One girl (about 12 or 13 yrs old?) working the register and what looked like an 18-20 yr old cooking. That was it. I was second in line, stood there for 10 minutes waiting (girl disappeared for a bit) and finally left the line. At that time, there were still a half dozen people waiting for food and one person ahead of me who also wasn't helped yet. Disappointing. They needed more people working the truck (at least one more) and maybe things would move a long quicker. I wasn't the only one who left the line either. read more

I have never personally eaten here but I never will after my experience tonight. My family and I were at the Thanksgiving point celebration tonight and about 5 minutes after the fireworks ended with hundreds of people walking out they decided to leave and my family and I were on the side of the truck when there was no warning and they began to move. My children were very close to the truck as I did not think a vehicle expecially that big would be trying to leave at that time. It was not even that they were trying to move forward, but they started pulling right out into all the people walking. One man who I am assuming works there run up and jumped in the open door as it was moving. It is very sad in my opinion that anyone would be okay doing that and putting alot of people and expecially small children at risk. read more

I purchased sushi from the food truck during a food truck underground park event. I didn't see any veggie rolls on the menu so I asked I they could make one special. They were very accommodating and said that usually people will order whichever sushi roll they like and then sub veggies for the meat. So I got the California roll and subbed cucumber for the crab. It's about 5 bucks for that roll and the Cali crunch roll is 6 bucks. I was still hungry after I ate the roll, but it was yummy so I will have to get two next time. read more

I ate at Fatty Tuna food truck before the Unwound symphony event in SLC...one word. YUM!! I ordered the ramen, a sushi roll, seaweed salad and sesame balls. So good!! I have spent quite a bit of time in Japan and have become quite a ramen snob. Needless to say, the ramen absolutely transcended my expectations!! My favorite thing to order is miso ramen which has all the flavors you'll expect when eating ramen and tako yaki- is you haven't tried it highly recommended it. Fatty Tuna knows what they're doing . Just hit up the Fatty Tuna food truck today for lunch, and while I will say I was not disappointed, I was not blown away either, but totally solid selection of food for quality vs. price point. Good portions, good quality, good prices. I got the potato croquette and my friend got the BBQ pork buns. The buns were pretty good - fried and crisped to perfection on the outside, great bun texture on the inside. The meat could have been seasoned a little bit more. They served it with a side of honey, and that was what perfectly rounded out the dish. The potato croquettes were interesting for a couple of reasons. First, there was a photo featuring them on the truck, but they weren't listed on the menu, so I had to ask if they were available or not - and I was going purely off a picture, not on any description. There were four large potato cakes for $6, which was a great price. The staff said usually they serve it with a house sauce, but they were out, so they asked if it was ok if they served it with teriyaki sauce, and I said sure. I think I would have liked them even better with the house sauce because the components were intended to be paired with it, but what I got was still good. It was a texture similar to mashed potato, mixed with curry spices, a little corn and carrot, and the whole thing is coated in breadcrumbs and fried. We had to wait in the croquettes, and my friend's buns were done before mine, but her buns were still hot when we both had our food and were ready to eat. Asian food is not my passion, so I wouldn't go out of my way to go there again, but if someone took me there or suggested going there, I'd be perfectly content to eat their food again. read more
