A great spot for breakfast when I am in the area. From the outside, Fast Break reminds me of the kitschy diner/house of pancakes vibe of my childhood. Inside is an eclectic decor. There is a mannequin in the corner that is clearly intended to be fun and fanciful. I am personally freaked out by mannequins and deal with this by just averting my eyes. Just letting you know in advance in case you have mannequin issues like I do. There are lots of comfortable tables and a very friendly and extremely attentive staff! Hot coffee is served almost immediately and once ordered, food comes quickly. This time I tried the house Benedict. Eggs were perfectly poached and the home fries were really good and well seasoned. Prices are reasonable and breakfast is served ALL DAY!!! read more

Came here when we visited Toms River and enjoyed the experience. Service by Hazel was friendly and efficient. The menu is large and the food was well prepared and cooked as ordered. While located on the highway, its ambiance was like an old fashioned restaurant. Cindy is a welcoming host and makes you feel appreciated for dining with them. Had breakfast with my husband here this morning. Lived in Toms River all my life and never ate here until today and I have no idea why. I really enjoyed it. I had eggs Benedict and they were delicious. Hollandaise sauce was perfect. Husband had an egg sandwich which he said was decent other than the fact that the bagel was a bit stale. Coffee was great. Waitress was attentive and very friendly. Breakfast for both of us came to $19. Can't beat it. One comment I would make is that it needs a little bit of TLC. It would benefit from a fresh coat of paint and a bit of a clean up as the booths and things were kind of run down and dirty but that won't stop me from going back. read more

This old school roadside food house on Rt. 37 in Toms River, NJ, is a gambol down memory lane. Its high glass front, sawtooth roofline, turquoise walls and low stool counter, harken back to a day when driving to the shore in your Packard or Chevy was a developing notion that would change the way we enjoyed free time, and early entrepreneurs were trying out new businesses to serve us. Fast food was in its infancy. Fast Break resembles all that. The odd lot décor and cut out window between kitchen and dining room for slinging hash, still work efficiently. Chef and waitperson kitchen-speak loudly back and forth. The staff is garbed in logo-themed black shirts and smiling faces. The menu is one laminated sheet of paper; one side breakfast, the other, lunch. The coffee flows freely from a double Bunn drip. Neon signs hang from every window. My Happy Herman (Sausage, Egg & Cheese on Kaiser) was very good. Single patty, fried egg and slice of American for $6. The price was reasonable, although higher than average. The hash browns were plentiful with well browned nibs, but a little dry. A better roll with some crustiness would have made this sandwich a star. Otherwise, a stop at Fast Break is a fun exercise in Jersey diner time travel. read more

This is my favorite breakfast spot in my hometown. Fast Break never fails to meet my need for a hearty and delicious breakfast. Some personal favorites include the Happy Herman, Western Omelette, and Dagwood. Also, the corned beef hash is phenomenal. They also have cheese balls as a side dish option, which are top notch. The aesthetic is unique, the service is always friendly / fast, and the prices are great. The restaurant is always packed, which is definitely a great sign. I've been coming to Fast Break for years, and will continue to recommend it to friends visiting the area. read more

After an epic night on the boardwalk this is the way to start your day! The place was poppin and had really retro and gnarly decor. Our Latvian waitress was super cool and informative. I had never eaten 'pork roll' before. It was so supreme! Each bite I found new flavors and nuances. The pork roll itself was like a ham/bacon hybrid of flavor. My wife had the eggs benedict. If having your elbows stick to the table is your idea of a good time, this is your place! If feeling the need to shower after visiting tickles your fancy, this is the eatery for you! This place never bothered me 20+ years ago when we would go during prom weekend but going back now as an adult, and seeing no one has cleaned the place since the late 90s, meh. read more

Fast Break is a down-home, roadside diner with fresh food and pleasant service. It's quirky decor may look a bit odd from the road, but it's quite fitting to the feel of the place. It's clean, affordable, and most importantly, delicious. Any classic staples are a solid choice to order. I love their taylor ham. egg, and cheese, but their omlettes and pancakes are tasty too. There's also a plethora of sandwiches including burgers, reubans, and wraps that will satisfy you. It's a great stop before a daily trip to the beach, or if you're out shopping on 37 and want...well, a 'fast break.' Our summer residence is on the island, and sometimes we come out here just for a change of pace. read more

Food is pretty decent. The place is a little on the smaller side with very tight parking. Sitting at the counter, I noticed everybody behind the counter touching food with bare hands. Without washing hands or wearing gloves, I witnessed employees touching money, door handles, etc etc and then our food. read more

Fantastic breakfast joint. The waitresses are genuinely friendly and greet you with a smile the moment you walk in. They have fresh squeezed orange juice from a Zumex machine which is cold and delicious. The malted waffles and corned beef hash are excellent and highly recommended. read more

Went for the first time today and sat down at the counter to put in a to-go order. Patiently waited almost 5 minutes and not a single person said hello or be with you in a moment after numerous staff walked back and forth passed me. A gentleman came and sat down next to me to also put in a to-go order. He waived a waitress down and she took his order. I was really looking forward to trying their food. I got up and walked out. Very disappointed. I am very patient and understanding to when a food place is busy but that's horrible service. read more

Amazing comfort food, restaurant is run by a wonderful lady named Cindy and her 2 daughters! I was waited on immediately and was very satisfied with the service. The waitresses were very sweet and attentive. Food was a whooping 8/10, it has a dinner authenticity to it which I love. The mrs Piggy was amazing and very unique. I have lived in Tom's River for 15 years and finally came here. The kids were taking me out for Father's Day breakfast. The wait for a table was 15 minutes. The servers were very attentive. I ordered the corned beef hash and cheese omelette, came with toast and home fries, my son ordered the Malted Waffles and bacon, and my daughter ordered the kids chocolate chip pancake breakfast which came with bacon, for drinks 2 coffees and one milk, total bill was $30.00. I will make this place a regular stop for breakfast. read more

Very good diner that was nice enough to stay open for a couple of folks new to the area on a dreary Saturday afternoon. Great place, in town for a conference and needed a place to grab breakfast. The inside decor has a very eclectic taste. Multiple tables available so it's good for bringing friends or family with to catch breakfast or lunch. The prices here are amazingly affordable as far getting breakfast/lunch. Got chocolate pancakes for only 4.95. you get diner quality food at a lower price. I am just sad there are not more places like this where I live in Long island. There is no better breakfast spot then fast break. The staff are the friendliness I have ever encountered. The food is delicious. Everything is seasoned and delicious. I always get the eggs Florentine (poached eggs, spinach, English muffin, hollandaise) the Spinach is freshly cooked and bright green. The home-fires are always so tasty. Most places that serve home-fires I'll always have to add so much salt. But not at fast break. This restaurant takes quality and kindness to another level. I could never imagine a trip down the shore with out breakfast at fast break. Thank you !!! read more

What a delightful experience. We came to Fast Break while on vacation in Seaside Heights. Everything about this restaurant was amazing. The service we received from Hazel was exceptional. She was pleasant, outgoing and attentive. The food was both delicious and plentiful. We asked to speak with the owner to tell her how impressed we were with our total experience. After speaking with Cindy, the owner, we realized why our experience was superb; she definitely sets the tone. We will definitely return next summer when we are back in NJ! read more

The homefries were really good ... actually they were great even without onions in them (Waitress never asked if I'd like onions and rushed away so I didn't ask but these potatoes didn't need onions.). Toast was toast and the jam/jelly selection was universally grape jelly with one orange marmalade. A very good breakfast and I wasn't here to make friends just to warm up ooops ok, so I didn't warm up but the coffee helped, and to do some work. Still worth the food if you're in the neighborhood!
