Right inside the bar.

Idk, this place is ok I guess. We stopped here before a concert in Prospect Park. The place had was semi crowded but it was pretty bright inside and just not a cool vibe. Seemed very local which was cool but just kinda like old dudes. Music you couldn't really hear at all. Nice to check it off the list but just not somewhere I'd be dying to go back to.

Farrell's has been a fixture in Windsor Terrace since 1933. I have avoided it for years, but a friend insisted that he take me there for a beer. Let's just say that if you are a progressive you will want to visit another bar. The typical patron is an imitation of Archie Bunker or Al Bundy. Farrell's does not have bar stools, and don't ask for any exotic cocktails. You will get an honest drink at a fair price, and plenty of entertainment.

Farrell's is the second oldest bar in Brooklyn. But it definitely doesn't show its age (I assume some renovations took place recently). Their beer special is a 32 oz styrofoam cup for $8. Too bad it's just Bud or Bud Light. The bar is big with a ton of seating. Bar in the front, TVs in the back, plus a jukebox with some oldies. Great for drowning out the conversations of old men talking about dating their cousins (don't worry, second cousin first removed). Anyway, I'm impressed with how festive they got. They put up a ton of Christmas lights and garlands, and even made a section of the bar look like a red brick chimney.

The most authentic "real" Brooklyn bar in all of Brooklyn. They won't serve you a fair trade organic whisky drizzled over an extra large artisanally-inspired, hand carved frozen chunk of sub zero Fiji water. You get a Bud Light in a styrofoam cup. And you get such a cup because you can then stand outside and smoke your stogie or no-filter Camel extra strongs laced with mashed up asbestos. Heck, they didn't allow ladies in here until 1970-something, according to rumors. And if you order anything with crushed mint, they'll still kick you out - penis or not. This is a bar where you can get into a conversation with the person next to you, and 2 minutes later, he's saying, "that's a bunch of fucking bullshit." He's not starting a fight, but simply not agreeing with your premise. There are no conversations about fixed wheel bikes or what's hot on Etsy. This is old Brooklyn and classic bar conversation... sports, politics, where to eat for cheap, how's your momma? This is also the bar where all the firemen go to raise a cup to their fallen comrades on 9/11. That's why you should go there at least once if you really want to experience Brooklyn. Just don't order anything with crushed mint while talking about your Etsy bargain.

It's all been said in terms of basic description: old man/cop/local/regular bar, well lit, it has an ambience but it's not a particularly sought-after one, juke box, limited drink selection. I'll say I was nervous to take the plunge for a long time, but I was out with family to grab one drink and I persuaded everyone to try it, and we had no regrets. I feel like we got some looks on the way in, but we just went with it, got a table, ordered very low maintenance drinks, tipped appropriately, got involved with the juke box, and had a great time. It felt a lot more comfortable in the way out. And certainly no one was anywhere near rude, I just feel like they initially wondered if we'd meant to walk into a different establishment. I'll say, basic beers were $6, and I guess that's the going rate, but I don't really want a basic beer, so having to pay something approaching an actual drink price for one is annoying. I think the selection of drinks is the reason this wouldn't be my top pick. But the mixed drinks aren't exactly the bomb at Double Windsor, either. Anyway, this totally felt comfortable, and I'm so glad I've finally tried it!

Farrell's is an old man pub. A legit old man pub. You'll see the nice decor from the outside and its cutely situated across from the Park Slope Pavilion Movie Theater and think gee golly gee wiz, so cute! Open the door and in comes that waft of musk. Old men, grime, cheap beer, maybe a little urine in the corner over some excitement with the latest horse race on tv. I'm not kidding. But it has a certain amount of charm to it. Like you will see some truly interesting characters in here. The staff has always been friendly, though, its also been a minute since I came inside. They only have about three different kinds of beer on draft: Bud, Bud Lite, and Stella Artois. Pick your poison! And then shove that in a 32 ounce styrofoam cup for only a few bucks. Yes, you heard me right. I could never hate on this institution though. It's a classic.

Farrell's is one of the old bars of Brooklyn. It takes a lot of criticism because apparently it didn't allow woman inside until recent years. The good news is that woman are now allowed. The interior has a lot of nice wood finishes and the service rooms are very clean. Bar Service was good. The Stella on tap was awesome and it came in a massive white styrofoam cup known locally as a "container". After asking for plastic lids for our containers we hit the road with our beers without problems.

Great local bar

I went there with execs from Anheuser Busch St Louis, because they wanted to visit the bar that sold the most Bud in NYC.

Unfortunately this place fell very flat. Leading with what we liked: Their mocktail offerings were good, promising a 0.0% ABV which is hard to come across when mocktails are offered. They serve oysters, which adds to that aphrodisiac experience of the oh so 'wow this is a former brothel!'. The bartenders and servers were fast and very sociable with the more sociable customers. The immediate entrance is very tight, and it was uncomfortable navigating the space. We expected there'd be more seating in the back, which there was, but it was limited and not offered to us until we asked for it. We honestly had no clue where it would be and only asked because of how this place was advertised. While it was comfy once we made our way back there, it was reminiscent of a lounge style bar space that almost any bar could replicate with the right room and budget. We didn't feel as though this hit the spot and were let down by this experience. I'm not sure if I can judge the menu of drinks/ foods as expensive, but we left hungry bc we couldn't justify some of the prices. In addition, I've seen a lot of complaints about the volume of the music: it's definitely loud at the front but a lot lower in that back lounge space. It's as loud as any bar's music level would be, but truth be told we were expecting music that matched the vibe of what was advertised and yes, at a lower volume.

All the drinks keep with the tropical, fruity taste with a hint of spice. They are also broken up into categories (dry land = no alcohol, shallows = average amount of alcohol, and abyss (larger amounts of alcohol). The abyss section has some cocktails that are limited to two per customer. They have some bar bites like fried green tomatoes, shrimp toast, broiled oysters, ricotta, dumplings, sliders. I had the French fries with kimchi ranch, which were underwhelming. Bartenders were cool and kept the drinks coming. I got in immediately without an issue or a wait, but it was right after a snowstorm. I've seen some people struggle to get in or have a long wait.

It's classy but not too fancy and has enough space but doesn't get too loud. They have a nice happy hour menu from Tuesday-Friday from 5 to 7 as well as all day on Sundays which has very decent prices such as an $8 old fashioned among other things (see the photo.) the bartenders I've had before have been friendly with some good recommendations. Outside of their wide selection of cocktails which run the gamut of liquors, they have a nice wine selection, a handful of craft beers, and a very small food selection. The first time I was here, I had one drink which was the excellent Star of The Ice Snow for $17 with Iwai 45 whiskey, brie-washed Carpano Antica, Fernet Branca, barrel-aged orange bitters, and sassafras bitters. It had a a bit of bitterness, some sweetness, some spice, and some light mint from the fernet and was a pleasant complex drink and was certainly worth it from the price. The second time I was here was just this evening where I had two drinks. I first went with something that I was thinking of getting the first time which is their outstanding Vivian Darkbloom for $15 with Union mezcal, lime, pineapple, charcoal, Velvet Falernum, and lime bitters. The drink has mild citrusy sweetness as well a bit of smoke from the mezcal and is probably my favorite drink I've had here though the other drink I had the first time gives it stiff competition. I asked the bartender what he recommends and after a small discussion, he said either The Bell Witch (which is a gin and chartreuse cocktail with a strong herbal flavor) or what I went with. Said drink was the Under a Cosmic Cloak for $16 with rhubarb infused rum, Trois Rivieres rum, Smith & Cross rum, yerba mate, lime, grapefruit, and whey. The bartender said that it wouldn't be overly sweet as the rum was milk washed and this was indeed the case with just a mild sweetness and some fruitiness. There was a light herbal flavor otherwise presumably from the mate as well as a light citrus note and overall, it was good though definitely the least complex of the drinks I've tried and probably my least favorite but was definitely not a bad drink. The drinks here are reasonably priced for the quality, the bartenders are friendly, and it is classy but not overbearingly so. I can see why it's popular and I wish I stopped in more.
