Stopped her on our way to SoCal from Folsom, didn't look like much from the outside but the food was good. I had the pork chop meal, perfectly cooked. Nice thickness with a little fat on edges, just like I prefer. My honey ordered a breakfast, pancakes were a good size and fluffy, just how he likes them. Our daughter is a nacho lover but often restaurants use cheese "sauce" which none of us care for. Not this place, real grated cheddar and Monterey Jack! And they have half orders on most items so that's still a good portion. We come here every now and then and we somehow always seem to get bad service. I understand that things are a little crazy due to covid but we always get seated after "the regulars" and we get our food after everyone else. It's been a few years now that I've visited this place but my husband & I stopped in our way home one late Sunday night. The bar was open & serving the full menu. We ordered the fried chicken & meatloaf dinner. I loved the fried chicken. It was perfect. I am not a fan of meatloaf but had to try it. It was the best meatloaf I have ever tasted. Me and my boyfriend had this yesterday night for dinner. I had the Chinese chicken salad and OMG delicious! I suggest that salad! Had dinner there on Thursday. My dining partner had the special which was stuffed chicken with broccoli and cheddar cheese. Sounded like a good idea until it was served. The chicken was raw. I don't understand how a cook could send out an order consisting of raw chicken to a diner, Have they not heard of meat thermometers? Unfortunately this is not the first time that this has happened. But fortunately, we had a good server that took care of the matter efficiently. A sweet surprise after a long day. We visit this spot when traveling to Chowchilla. They have great sweet potato fries. I have driven past this place numerous times going back and forth between Fresno and Sacramento. I never stopped because it looked so run down. What caught my eye was the full parking lot. Even though it looked old and abandon there always seemed to be a full parking lot. Then a friend at work told me I just had to try it. With reluctance I decided to stop this time and give it a try. All the reviews that mention the appearance, outdated decor, run down lack of road appeal are spot on but the food and service make up for the look. Large servings, friendly waitresses and fair prices make this a restaurant I would stop at again. It is easy to see from the 99 Freeway and there is LOTS of big truck parking. It is a bit of a challenge to find once you get off the 99 but once you know how to get to it, your next visit will be easier. They have a GREAT menu and Breakfast is served all day. If decor were better and easier to get to, I would have given it 5 stars. read more

Great place to stop and eat I have drove past it many many times due to the appearance of the outside of the building and surrounding area (looks run down). I stopped to put gas and check the reviews of the surrounding restaurants. And decided to try this place....wow to my surprise it was delicious. When you enter the building it's like you go back into time 70s or 80s hasn't been updated. The food was outstanding, you must try the soup of the day they make it from scratch daily unbelievable taste. The only complaint I have is that some of the staff members were joking around in the kitchen and you could just hear their laughs all across the restaurant which was a bit disturbing they should have more sense than that. read more

For a roadhouse on the side of Highway 99, this place is GREAT! Full menu with fine steaks, juicy burgers, nicely-done seafood, appetizers, crisp salads, blue-collar breakfasts and even a respectable wine list (Are you kidding me? A truck stop with a WINE LIST?). Friendly, attentive and well-trained wait staff along with a cook who really knows what he's doing. Very local, down home atmosphere with class, taste and style in a small town in the Great Central Valley. I'll make a point of stopping here every chance I get. read more

If the smell doesn't overwhelm you when you enter, the lack of taste will clearly finish you! This restaurant is pure hit or miss. Once in a great while you may actually get something tasty here. But after living in Chowchilla over ten years - My husband and I avoid this place like the plague. It's a shame, since there are very few decent restaurants in town. We've been burned enough times here, that we wouldn't be compelled to eat here if it was free. For mothers day my father decided to take my mother and myself to Farnesi's, which we've been to many times. I will never go back. My dad couldn't eat the first plate he was given and then when he ordered Biscuits and Gravy it was toped with a Pork Chop. Or that is what it looked like. When I first moved to Chowchilla about 5 years ago, I loved their food but now I will never go back. The Oil was old and my mother ended up getting sick from the fries she ate. This place is a time warp in 2010. I went there twice in one weekend while visiting a friend in the area. We first went for dinner were it was local people inside the bar and the wait staff, one had to wait on. The food was ok, I had a custom grilled cheese sandwich with fried onions and tomatoes. What I really wanted was In and Out but I was there. The kids menu was good with enough food to feed a young child. The man at the table next to us, ordered a very large steak for somewhere in the $20's range. For breakfast the next day, I had two eggs and hash browns which were good, my friend had a meal with lots of garlic fries and I mean lots with enough food to make sure we were full when we left. Great Highway Location.... From what I could see or not see, I believe Farnesi's has a MONOPOLY on the cafe business in town. Looked for ten minutes or so for alternate dining WITH service, but to no avail. Sooo...I was Glad I Doubled Back. Great traditional breakfast. Counter service was prompt. Coffee delivery frequent. My waitress would just pour coffee and never ask me if I wanted another...Nice! I thought - "Just keep it coming beautiful!" I dined alone with my W.S.J. paper. It is a time warp to the seventies. Dinner was okay. We got there about 4.30 and sat in more like a coffee shop than a steakhouse. They should ask you if you prefer to sit in the more upscale area with the steakhouse menu. My family brought me there for lunch on my birthday (9/15/17). We sat for 30 minutes without menus or water. Thank God because the glasses on the table were filthy. We obviously left the place. I often ate breakfast there several years ago. It was great. Something awful has happened to this place. It is sad because the Town of Chowchill doesn't have many restaurants. Beware.... Regarding the bar: your level of service depends on the amount of people in it. Pretty decent place, but the acoustics make it loud quick. I'd suggest one of their specialty drinks. Regarding the restaurant: the food is pretty good, and brought out in a timely manner. Get your grub on, people. read more

Had breakfast here a few days ago. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, like a 50's style diner. Me and my s/o ordered poached eggs with sausage, bacon and toast. The coffee was good and they gave us a few flavors of creamers to go with it. Suggestion to the cook. If you're going to serve poached eggs, please serve them in a small individual bowl, instead of putting them directly on the plate. I have eaten at other establishments, like in Las Vegas and other places where poached eggs are served in a small bowl. Also, we noticed that the ceiling and the vents above us looked dirty. Maybe it's time for the owner to stop being nostalgic and upgrade/clean/modernize it. I give this place 3 stars because the food was good, but the eggs were not served the way we wanted, plus the restaurant needs some upgrading. read more

I've been wanting to try this restaurant for years, like every restaurant it has ups and down's. The most of the food we ordered was ok at best, my club sandwich was very warm, my bread wasn't toasted, my steak fries were still hard, instead of nacho cheese my husband's nachos had shredded cheese all the chips was basically stuck was one big chip, and it gave me and my husband food poisoning!
