Korean BBQ Sandwich with side salad!
Donni T.

I've eaten breakfast here several times during our annual Labor day weekend jaunts to Madeline, and always loved it. Yesterday I finally got to try it for lunch, and it was, not surprisingly, a great meal. I tried the Korean BBQ Sandwich with a side salad ($13 for sandwich, $1.50 for the salad). A bit pricey, but oh well. Keep in mind that they automatically add 18% to all checks. That's what I typically tip, so the amount is fine. But it really irks me when restaurants do that for a party of one!!! So that tip thing is my only negative. Just consider that part of the deal, and relax and enjoy yummy food, a quirky, artsy, fun environment, and a lovely view of Lake Superior! My sandwich came on some yummy crunchy bread (I think they do all their own baking but I am not sure). The delicious sauce made it soft inside pretty quickly -- maybe grill both sides next time? No real problem, though, as the roasted chicken was tender and flavorful, and the house kimchi was just tangy and spicy enough to satisfy a spic-lover like myself, but not so much that wimpier (sorry) fans couldn't handle it. The greens were fresh and colorful, with a superb vinaigrette. I didn't eat breakfast this trip, but in the past I have LOVED the savory waffle, and my daughter always gets the farmers breakfast. Their homemade preserves and jellies are AMAZING. This is one of those gems on the island. Keep in mind they close by 2pm, so plan accordingly!

Very sweet and accommodating staff. Unique food options with a good patio. Dogs are welcomed on the patio!

If you want a good meal on Madeline island this is your only option. I mean a well thought out, full of flavor and unique meal. Not just food that is a filler. We got the hash hash, savory waffle and the farmers scramble. Everyone loved their meals. The savory waffle was really good. The sausage and waffle combo was spot on and it came with a salad which was a good balance. The hash hash was the table favorite. Very hearty and the mix of potatoes and sweet potatoes was great. I added a side of hash just in case but did not need it. The meals are filling

Heaven on Madeline Island!!! Farmhouse is my new favorite spot! Cozy , warm environment that does remind me of a farmhouse kitchen. Braided rag rugs are barstool covers and polished natural wood bar. A well trained young staff and a great soundtrack give the place a hip a slightly urban casual vibe! Shout out to Soma for a fab cappuccino and being the first server ever to suggest adding a bit of coffee to my cup to allow me to enjoy the last of the foam! Love that!!! The superstar of the day was the Savory Waffle!!! Do not miss it! Served with an easy egg and lightly dressed greens it is truly amazing! I'm so impressed I think I'll come back for lunch the Korean BBQ sandwich is calling me!

Went here for lunch before we rode around the island. I had the Korean BBQ sandwich and it was quite tasty. I did need to share it with my girlfriend as she ordered the standard breakfast which was not bad but it had way too much butter for her liking.

I can't believe all of these years that I have been at the island and I have not dined here for some farm fresh food! You order at the counter and then you are seated to wait for your food. I ordered a pomosa (oh you don't know what that is? I didn't either, a pomegranate mimosa!) Comes in a huge glass, it was quite delicious. Now my meal sounds basic but it was far from - eggs toast bacon and sautéed root vegetables, oh my gosh if those veggies weren't cooked perfectly I don't know what was, the bread was great (not sure what kind it was) but I was so full and even more satisfied with how good it was. The hubs ordered the fried chicken sandwich he said it tasted good (I didn't want a bite this time because my breakfast was too good ha) the only thing he said was he was surprised the chicken sandwich was dark meat when typically they use breast for sandwiches. The staff was super friendly as expected on the island - everyone's awesome! It's a great place to be. We'll be back.

Farmhouse was such a great surprise when visiting Madeline Island. It's just to the left on the main road after you get off the ferry. They offer meat, vegan and vegetarian options, with a great selection of beverages. I'm not usually one for imitation meats, but the mock duck rueben with housemade kimchi was delicious (Kimchi Rachel). Paired with a Bent Paddle Hop, of course. We also tried the Foraged Mushroom Grilled Cheese, a triple-decker sandwich with cheddar cheese, pesto and wild mushrooms. A big bite that packs a punch. They feature seasonal, local, high quality ingredients and it is obvious in every bite. From the food to the atmosphere to the service, we loved this place and we will definitely go back!

All the locals told us The Farmhouse was the best place to eat on Madeline Island. Lucky for us we were staying right next door at the Island Inn. Decor is so cute. Place settings are rolled up in bandanas. Specials of the day are written in a blackboard wall. I had the Sweet Waffle and eggs. The waffle is Belgian style with granola baked in, topped with real whipped cream and blueberries and served with local maple syrup. My friends both had the Savory Waffle with gouda, spinach chives baked in served with an over medium egg and sausage. Everything was excellent!

Look. A bird feeder over the water station. That's a good idea....

I had the veggie sloppy joe with bacon and an egg. It was fantastic. My wife had the Rachel (turkey and Kimchi). Good spice but the turkey was excessive dry. The food was a solid 4 (at least mine, hers was definitely lower), service 3, and the wait (45 minutes for two sandwiches and fries) was definitely a 2. Not a bad spot, not great. I'd try something else before coming back.

Farm to table concept restaurant with ingredients sourced from farms in Ashland and Bayfield counties. Vegetarian and vegan options available. The new owners of this historic island property have done a great job with the welcoming decor. Abundant outdoor seating.

The counter where you order and serve yourself coffee and pay 18% gratuity to do so.

The food was pretty good, but didn't quite justify the cost. They are doing well with the classic Seattle-like hipster vibe and are all very friendly and food was farm to table fresh. However, my biggest issue is the high cost of any option added to the meal along with an 18% automatic gratuity for counter service and self-serve coffee. I had 2 eggs, toast, bacon, and potatoes with a drink and my bill was $20. A family of 5 came in after me and ordered breakfast with coffees and their total was $100!

Had the Hash Hash. Nice and fresh. The restaurant was clean, staff friendly and it provided a break from the summer heat. We will return.

First off, she won't serve anyone who is on their cell phone so make sure your pictures are taken after you visit. I appreciated this as it reminded me of my time in France where patrons are encouraged to stay, mingle and live in a world without screens. I wish we had more of this. Secondly, she doesn't have a cell phone. She lives on the island with a good old fashioned land line. Again, if you ask me, I love this for her. I told her that Mission Hill had great Yelp reviews and she giggled asking who is even writing about these things. All this to say, if you want to support local when in Madeline Island, this is a great opportunity, Mission Hill also carries produce such as vegetables in season and other local pantry items such as honey and syrup. There are all sorts of other items as well like beeswax candles, sweatshirts and board games. My husband ordered a regular coffee and I got a hot Americano with a shot of vanilla. Both were normal and nothing extra or fancy. In summary, this shop brought me so much joy and simplicity. I hope to live my life in my older age similar to the owner. Thank you for inspiring me!!!

The afternoon we were there, it was extraordinarily blustery outside, with dirt being whipped around town as their major through road area was under construction. We parked our vehicle and walked a block or two to Coco, where we got a hot beverage to sip on while enjoying the hot blueberry turnover that had just come out of their oven. It was sooo delicious! Flaky pastry folded over generous, intensely-flavored blueberry filling. The experience brought me right back to childhood memories of eating the frozen ones made by Pepperidge Farms that you baked in the oven at home. It was the rare occasion that my mom bought a box or two of them (there were 4 per box, and there were 5 members in my family), most likely, when they were "on sale" at a local grocer. The decor inside the place was very colorful, quirky, funny, awesome! Will make it a point to visit this place again when I'm in the area!

After waiting in line for 20 minutes, we were only then told that hot food would take nearly an hour. That's something the line should be updated on every few minutes so people can decide whether to wait or not. The staff were very kind and efficient, and the girls with intolerances were happy to see such a large variety of options. They definitely need a bigger space to handle weekend rushes, but I get it, small town charm. The food and drinks we had were pretty good and overall fine, aside from the wait and the last minute news about the hot food. Would recommend for the people with intolerances but keep in mind it might take a while!

I came here for a fish fry just after Memorial Day and the outdoor seating weather was perfect for my pup. The patio overlooks Lake Superior, with a few buildings across the street blocking a bit of the view. It's a nice downtown spot so there are plenty of people out and about walking by the patio. I typically prefer a traditional Old Fashioned, but when in super northern Wisconsin, do as they do. I got a Wisconsin Old Fashioned and it was great. I even ordered a second one! The veggie dumpling soup was beyond my expectations -- I would have just eaten a bunch of bowls of that all night if I hadn't been set on fish fry. I got the Lake Superior Whitefish fry (Lake Superior was right across the street, how could I not?), which was just ok. The sides were great - french fries and green beans are a Wisconsin match made in heaven. The fish was alright, a bit fishier than I'm used to but that just might be a Lake Superior whitefish thing? Still, I found about 6 bones in the fish fry and I've never had that issue at a restaurant fish fry before. I usually give a few bites to my dog but was nervous on this one. So, overall a great experience and a fun place to stop by. I'd recommend checking them out.

I wish I remembered the name of our server because she was so attentive while practically running the front of house by herself, I wish I could give her a specific shout out. The rest of the food was slightly too salty and the fish was just a tad dry but the tartar sauce and coleslaw were both to die for and the fries were fantastic. Overall we enjoyed our time here and would definitely go back.
