My spouse and I decided to venture forth once more into devour bloomington this time at Farm Bloomington. The restaurant offered a special menu of blt, huge amounts of French fries and your choice of Gelato. I believe the bowl of French fries dared us, but we could not overcome it. I think the restaurant should have a hall of fame for those who can overcome the French fries offered in one setting. Instead we have an entire box of totally delicious fries The blt sandwich was delectable, delightful and delicious. The double chocolate Gelato was decadent and only healthy because of the raspberries and strawberry. The other part of the restaurant offers spices, Gelato, and dessert coffee. Down stairs is another bar. I could see once the pandemic is lifted how connected they and Buskirk Chumley could be. read more

Came here last week for dinner and happened to stop by hoping for a seat and to try out what farm has to offer! When we got there we were seated promptly and were served with water and an amouse Bouche. It was a salad like dish wish was made with veggies and a yogurt sauce. For the main dish I got: *bison burger - I ordered this medium rare. This burger was delicious and flavorful, the juiciest bison burger I've ever had! I also added bacon which was super juicy and crispy which made it even better! It came with onions lettuce and tomato and a pickle. It also came with a side of a potato salad dish which was really good Overall awesome experience and I would love to come back and try more! read more

i came to visit some friends at IU and this is where we came for dinner! we started out with the AMAZING truffle fries with garlic aioli and brussels sprouts. both of these are gluten free!! for my main i got a farm salad with chicken. unfortunately the salad was individually like a 2/5. the lettuce was crazyyyy bitter, the cheese was just in random chunks and there wasn't enough flavor really. the service was great though and the food came out quickly. our server was awesome, she was so nice and quick. i just wouldn't order this salad if i came back again but i'm sure other things are great :) read more

This was my second time going to FARM, and I am really struggling with how many Stars to assign. My first time ever going was amazing and this time just seemed to be lacking. I am big on consistency and it can't just be amazing one time. I made reservations on OpenTable a few days in advance for 8:15 PM and we walked right in and sat immediately. We started off with the Pedro Sanchez, this is honestly the BEST non-alcoholic "mocktail" I have ever had. I was not expecting much as I usually don't like mocktails due to their sugary/ sweet taste, but this was amazing! I then had a glass of the Cave de Lugny Unoaked Burgundy Chardonnay and it was light, buttery, and flavorful. We ended up ordering what felt like the entire menu, but we started with the Famous Garlic Fries and the Carmalized Brussel Sprouts - these were both amazing dishes! The fries are big enough to share for a table of 6 people and the Brussel sprouts were great to split between two. They were the best Brussel sprouts I have had in a long time, and I believe they were sauteed in peanut oil which is my favorite! We then ordered our entrees and another 4 sides as we wanted to try it all! The four sides (which you can make a meal for $18) we got were Piquant Kale, Roasted Carrots, Grilled Broccolini, and Beef Dripping Potatoes. The kale was not great at all, it seemed like it was frozen and hastily dethawed under warm running water. The Roasted Carrots were AMAZING - they were full of flavor and almost dessert-y. The Grilled Broccolini was also amazing - you could taste the grill smoke and it was full of flavor. The potatoes were also good but not as good as the Carrots and Broccoli. Finally for the entrees - which I did have very high hopes for and unfortunately I was let down. I got the Iberian Roasted Pork which came with Jasmine Rice and Micro Cilantro Greens. The pork was overcooked and therefore came out dry and too chewy to enjoy. The jasmine rice unfortunately did not seem to have much flavor at all which I was surprised considering the mojo sauce - it needed a bit of fat or salt. The microgreen salad was nothing special at all. Matt got the Grilled Beef Filet and it was unfortunately overcooked - but his sides were good and the Filet did have good flavor. My previous time there - I got the duck and it was absolutely amazing. I do hope to go back as the service is great, the food is good and the drinks are awesome. The service was very good. Busy night. Food took a long time to get to us. Prime Rib - not tender. Have had better prime rib from other restaurants. My friend's entree was dried out. Pasta was not soft. The sauce was non-existent. It must've been in an oven to keep warm for way too long & wasn't covered. The server comped my friend a dessert due to the disappointment of the entree. Over priced dinners - for this experience. Overrated burnt out has been. Avoid this place and just go to Cracker Barrel or any other breakfast place, its late in the restaurant lifecycle and I have zero plans of ever returning here. I've come here on many occasions because it used to be amazing but my past few visits have been pretty bad. I usually come here after Riding through brown county / SR45, it used to be my favorite brunch spot. Food: The ingredients are still locally sourced but by my bacon isn't as thick as I remember, my eggs were good but my fries were not fresh and tasted almost Burger King like today. The food was a major let down. My husband and I both ordered the prime rib, as it was the special for the day. We both ordered medium rare and were served well done prime rib. It was awful. They serve sautéed kale and potatoes with it. $1.50 to upgrade to broccoli, not a huge deal. I was not impressed and will never return. My new girlfriend, Elizabeth, had a friend come in town for the week, and she was insistent that I meet her at Farm Bloomington for brunch. I had my doubts coming into this restaurant. Paul, my new roommate after my ex wife kicked me out of the house, told me that Farm Bloomington sucked. Upon my own review of this restaurant, I'm here to tell you that it is incredible! I ordered the B-Town Breakfast which consisted of two eggs (scrambled), bacon, roasted tomatoes, and fries. The scrambled eggs melted in my mouth, and the bacon was crisp and juicy. This may have been one of my top 5 breakfasts all year! Elizabeth got the avocado toast and her friend got the steak and eggs. Farm Bloomington has made me a fan for life. Granted, it is Bloomington where most people haven't had a warm meal that did not involve a sandwich press in a few years and their parents are just excited to take them out to have something that resembles a meal. They get huge points for being locally sourced but we found both the bison burger and the beef burgers to be dry and they are not generous on the toppings or condiments. In Bloomington for work from the San Francisco Bay Area and my hotel suggested this place. Not super hungry and super tired after traveling so I just ordered a glass of rose and lentil soup, which came quickly and were de-LIC-ious! I sat at the bar, appreciated that the bartender knew their wine list. I see some bad reviews, and I just want to say, as someone that travels all over this country and the world, restaurants are dealing with challenges with staffing and costs everywhere-and I mean everywhere-from Africa to Costa Rica to North Dakota. They are all trying to stay afloat despite CoVID and inflation. And what can we do, as patrons? Let's be a little kinder and more patient. This is not a time to raise your petty issues of entitlement. Anyhow, I digress. These guys seem to be doing a more than respectable job at keeping it together despite challenges. The staff at Farm was fantastic and should be commended. However, the rest of the experience leaves a lot to be desired. The menu is exceptionally limited and I when I visited farm, they were out of what seemed to be about 20% of the menu since there are only 4 or 5 entrees, the three pizza options (they had no dough when I was there), a few sandwiches and some appetizers outside of the one daily special (which they were also out of). It's also incredibly expensive for what it is. We ordered two "Luger Burgers" which while tasty, took about 40 minutes to arrive (mine was cold) and cost $17 before "upgrading" to add in about 12 fries for an extra $2 rather than the automatic side (potato salad if memory serves). All told, 3 drinks, two burgers, and two substitutions (aforementioned fries and another $3 for sautéed mushrooms) totaled $82 dollars. You'd get the exact same quality but double the volume and options next door at Uptown. The drinks are borderline criminally overpriced. I ordered a single pour of Old Forester 1920 (a $60 bottle) and later noticed that it was listed for $17 a drink. 26 pours in the bottle means Farm is making $442 dollars on a $60 bottle of bourbon. Also being right above, and directly open to, "The Root Cellar" bar, means the dining area gets filled with the bar's music, drowning out most of the ambiance if you're there past 9 or so. I've heard rave reviews of Farm in the past and I genuinely wonder if there is a different restaurant by the same name somewhere else in town. If its not crowded, early in the day, the full menu of 11 meal options is available (I counted), and you don't want drinks, maybe think about Farm. Or just go to Uptown or Malibu Grill (my personal recommendation). read more

I've never had to send food back to a kitchen before but my chicken came out to dry our waitress said something about it. The gravy was even hard and crusty at parts. We had brunch here today, and everything was excellent start to finish! We arrived about 20 minutes before our reservation, but they were able to seat us right away anyway which was a nice bonus! I had such a hard time deciding what to order since everything looked amazing. I ended up going with the Indiana Benedict and was not disappointed. Biscuits and gravy with poached eggs, peppers and kielbasa? Delicious!! Fluffy biscuits that held up well under the gravy, lots of tasty kielbasa and ground sausage and very nicely seasoned gravy. The eggs were cooked perfectly. My friend had the poutine which she really enjoyed as well. It was a huge portion and she took half of it home to enjoy later. For dessert, I had the baked apple which came with what tasted like house made granola and excellent vanilla ice cream. Our server was great. She was friendly and just attentive enough. She didn't rush us and made a point of asking us if we wanted anything else before bringing the bill (and we did want dessert!). Chef Orr was around and made a point of checking in with diners himself which is always s nice touch. I loved the decor, and even though the restaurant was fairly full, it wasn't loud. Parking is easy. The 4th street garage is right around the corner. It was raining hard today so we were happy to have an option for a short walk. This is an amazing brunch place. Maybe not for college students so much since it's pricier, but for alumni perhaps. Brunch over the holidays is even better, with more food and coffee options. I've had several noteworthy experiences at this Bloomington staple over the years. Two of the standout dishes I've experienced include the juicy grass fed burger and strawberry breakfast porridge with cheesecake infusion. In fact, I can't stop thinking about that porridge. (think cream of wheat on steroids) THE SPACE: Located right off the square in downtown Bloomington, Farm is a beautiful stone's throw from several of my favorite sites in Bloomington: the BLine Trail, farmers market and Cardinal Spirits to name a few. Stepping inside the door you'll feel a mix of shabby chic old general store vibes with quilted curtains, antique furniture with a splash of surprising decor like Asian columns in the back of the restaurant. The basement is home to an unsuspecting bar that hosts music and a fun speakeasy-like entrance off the alley. SERVICE: All of my encounters have featured excellent customer service and I love the passion you can see if Chef Orr's eyes. FOOD/DRINK: They offer everything from spirits to a coffee bar in the front of the restaurant. You'll also find a tasty case full of made from scratch desserts in the front entry. While I was in town for work, a group of 7 of us went here for a weekday dinner. The atmosphere of the restaurant is rustic chic and we felt very welcomed. The table started with two orders of their garlic fries and they were absolutely delicious! Everyone raved how much they enjoyed them. They were crispy, super flavorful, came with a great dipping sauce, and the portion was huge! One order can easily feed 4 or more. I ordered the beet veloute and wild bianca pizza. The server advised me that the beet veloute was a cold soup, so I knew what to expect. The soup was flavorful and looked gorgeous. I really wanted to like this, because I love beets, but unfortunately between the 'rye croutons' (which was a tiny crumble) being so incredibly salty, and expecting a very velvety texture from a veloute (and this was not smooth), it was something I didn't have more than few spoonfuls of. The pizza was a BIG regret. Myself and a coworker whom I sat across from both chose this. This was no personal/mini sized pizza and could have absolutely been shared with someone. We wished our server would've let us know when we both ordered it. I am sorry to say, but this pizza was nearly inedible. The pesto was one of the saltiest bites of food I've ever had. I tried to pick around this by eating a mushroom (not bad) and some of the ricotta (oddly bland). The crust on it's own was very good though - light and crispy! Looking at my coworker we both only took a couple bites of this giant pie. When our server asked if we wanted it wrapped to go, we both said no and he didn't question it. After being encouraged by the rest of the table to let our server know, I did. In telling him our feedback, as I stated above, he told us that that is basically how he feels about that pizza, and that he has often received the same feedback from customers! Again, we wished he would have let us know in advance. After all of that, we weren't offered anything to be comp'd or even a dessert/drink. The pizza was $16.50 each. We felt that paying $33 between the two of us where we clearly did not enjoy any of it, while the server confirmed we weren't alone in this dislike, it would have been nice to have something done. On a more pleasant note, the rest of our table seemed to enjoy the various meals they ate. I had a bite of the spring pea risotto and I wished I had chosen that instead. The farm to table concept of this restaurant is one I wholeheartedly support. I hope to visit them again and have a better experience next time. read more

I stopped in for a steak & egg breakfast. The steak was nicely prepared and looked great (thick and properly cooked to medium rare) Unfortunately it was so tough it was nearly inedible. I very rarely send food back (especially meat) since I hate to see it wasted. I have to admit though that if I had more time, I would have sent it back. Fortunately, I have good teeth and not high expectations for breakfast steak in general. Went to Farm Bloomington on many recommendations from locals to university parents. Came in with a small group of moms and sons. Ordered drinks and clearly at the time of ordering drinks, they asked if we wanted appetizers. When I ordered my drink I stated that I wanted the brussel sprouts for my dinner and the others ordered appetizers. I shared with the two servers that I had to leave the party early as I had to travel 2.5 hours for work. The others received a brussel sprout order of which they shared, but I was waiting for mine as my main course. 35 minutes later everyones dinner arrived as order, except mine. 10 minutes later the servers appeared to tell me there were no brussel sprouts.... Where was the disconnect??? Where was any compensation or regard for my time when I clearly stated that I was in a time crunch and they knew i wanted them for entree, yet brought them out for the other table members as an app. When did they know they were out and why 10 minutes after everyone elses food was delivered was I just. made aware of this. This seemingly trendy spot was what I was looking forward to the most, but turned out it was the least enjoyable of our trip. We arrived a few minutes before our reservation and seated promptly. Our drinks and appetizer were also prompt. The Brussel sprouts were good with toppings of blue cheese, almonds, and a tasty orange sauce. Sadly, my Old Fashion lacked the traditional Luxardo cherry; it wasn't a great drink. Our dinner order was taken before we received our appetizer and drinks. We sat at the table for quite some time when finally my husband noticed we'd been waiting about 30 minutes, then 45, then 60 minutes for our food. Finally our waitress came over and said they ticket never printed and the kitchen never got the order. She said that the kitchen was working on the order and we'd receive soon, which we did. I found it odd that the plates were too hot to touch, but according to our waitress the food was just plated. I do wonder if the food was just forgotten and left under the heat lamps. Who really knows! Anyway, once the meal came we dig in to the risotto and the Thursday brisket special. My daughter's risotto was good. I only had one bite, so it's hard to review on that. My brisket was not so good. The pieces of fat that surrounded the edible parts was tricky to navigate and I felt there was more fat than the meat. The onion gravy was one of the saltiest things I've eaten in a long time. For me it was just not good and overwhelmingly to the palate. The meal also had a kale mix that had big chucks of crunchy kale and that's about it - not very tasty. I do appreciate that the error was noticed and we received our meals for free, but the overall experience was disappointing and I hope this was just a one-off for the restaurant. Salad and pizza shouldn't take that long...and the pizza was cold :( When asked where our food was we were told it was 'Mom's weekend' and very busy. Quite elaborate selected dishes and a rich drinks menu. We went there for brunch. Only a couple of egg dishes, all of which had some type of sauce (tomato or otherwise). I don't particularly like sauces, so I asked for the eggs Benedict without the gravy. I expected a soft biscuit and crunchy potatoes ... and ended up with a hot plate, reheated potatoes (they were warm) stale biscuit and really overcooked eggs. The oven bake was ok - a little TOO much garlic on the bread. Yelp offered a "free small treat", but they were out. Also, they were out of the dessert we chose. I had just arrived in Bloomington when I wandered off the square and into the Farm. I loved the high ceilings and the outdoor tables. The waitress was so kind, she's a runner and I think she runs 4 miles a day (which is a lot in these pandemic times) and she just seemed like an awesome, engaged person. I had a sour, an espresso and a BLT. With fries. All good... the BLT that was actually the best BLT I've ever had. You know when they say that on the menu but you don't believe them? It was true. She also gave me a coffee-sized amount of espresso, and some for the road, which was great! All in all just a great introduction to Bloomington. read more
