Farm is known as an iconic restaurant on campus by when it comes down to it, it's because of their staple truffle fries. Overall the food is decent except their truffle fries truly are out of this world. Brunch is decent however I think there are better options on campus (Feast), and dinner has a few good items but again overall there are much better options. Every single time Im in Bloomington I eat at the farm I truly love it that much. Being from Indy it's only a short hour drive to have some great food and atmosphere. This visit the restaurant was still on Covid restrictions but they had plenty of seating outside, and we couldn't of ask for better weather. We mad it in time for brunch which is served till 3 pm and that happen to be my first brunch experience. It didn't disappoint. The one thing I was kinda bummed about was they got rid of the big bowls of their amazing French fries and replaced them with more of a single serve. Just remember to order enough for the table. Bloody Mary's are hand crafted, mimosa are amazing and the brunch menu is unique with something for everyone. My first Mother's Day and my 1 year wedding anniversary. Let's just say my expectations were pretty high. Unfortunately, the service and food are simply not worth the price. My husband made a reservation as a surprise dinner on out first night back in Brown County. We put or fancy pants on and headed to Bloomington. We were sat in the back, by the bar, in a cozy half booth/half chairs table. We both say next to each other in the booth, of course. The interior theme is modern/retro/farmhouse. The decor is too busy, and looks like they're trying to please every demographic. We ordered from the special Mother's Day menu. I ordered the garlic fries, and they were amazing! I was trying not to shove them into my face, but the sauce made it for me. I believe these are a staple of the restaurant, so they're probably available year round. The waiter was nice enough, but kinda ditzy. We asked for water four times, and he kept coming back saying he'd be back with water. He also forgot our silverware when we sat down, the knives for our filets, and the check. His only redeeming quality was offering us some after dinner coffee/tea, which we appreciated very much. For the entrees, we both had the beef filet, "smashed" potatoes, and green beans. Filet was too small, fatty, and rubbery. The potatoes had a horrible texture, like they've been reheated to death in the microwave; almost waxy. I couldn't easy the green beans either. Rob had similar sentiments. We sat there saying how we could have just made our own dinner for less hassle, money, and time. Sadly, not a great Mother's Day dinner. read more

I could go on & on about that experience; but let's talk-talk-talk about today's experience! They have two tables outside... we are strolling leisurely and realize that we just want to sit all Parisian style and not really have any goals about anything else but to just sit there. One of the two tables outside is open... we inquire... we're seated. We show no interest in food... we order a glass of wine & a pint of BBC Pale (on nitro). By the by... any time an establishment offers a nitro draught... I say strike like the black mamba because we ain't in London anymore Dorothy & the nitro draught is rare. So the server is totally awesome about checking in on us... we're not eating... we're drinking... and probably just one drink really... and we took our sweet, sweet Sunday time. We had brunch there on Father's Day. The service was excellent. I had the Classic BTown Breakfast, which consisted of eggs, bacon and home fried potatoes. The eggs were scrambled to perfection (not scrambled to death). The bacon was thick and crispy (both great things), but it was a bit peppery and very salty. The potatoes were cooked well, but also just a bit too salty. The best thing however, was the coffee. I had just a cup of coffee, and my wife had a vanille latte. The coffee was bold and distinctive, without being French roast (which I dislike). It was coffee that wasn't afraid to be coffee. All in all a nice meal. I'd go there again. read more

Every time I am visiting Bloomington I make a stop at Farm. Each day there is a new special and I often try whatever it is. This visit I had the Big Salad, which lived up to its name. I received a gift certificate to FARM from a friend and decided I was going to finally take the plunge and have dinner there. I fully admit I was skeptical and hadn't eaten there because I anticipated another 'foo foo' place with small portions, big prices, and food that I'm not normally prone to order anyway. I was wrong. Let me start by saying the prices were still on the higher side for Bloomington, which I fully expected. I don't mind paying the big tab but only if I'm getting food that is worth it. FARM pulled that one off too. We began with the garlic fries appetizer (recommended by some other Yelper) and they were as good as advertised. Came in a HUGE portion, and since it was only my wife and I, we had quite a bit leftover. Yummy! Ordered a bottle of wine which, admittedly, they didn't deliver. Got a different Malbec than ordered, but it was the same price and very good. I'm not a wine snob and probably wouldn't know the difference, but was a bit panicked when I noticed mid-bottle that it was something different. Was worried they had misinterpreted or otherwise gotten a pricier bottle, but the receipt showed the same price so I was happy there. FARM is known for using local ingredients and the menu changes by the season. I had gone online to see the offerings and the decisions had been made. Me: Kansas City strip with sea salt mashed potatoes, fall veggie succotash and BBQ butter. Wife: Had planned on something else, but ended up ordering the special that night, a filet mignon with similar sides. (I tried to order that too but they only had one left, so being the nice husband that I am, I let her have it) Both meals were fabulous. In fact, I remarked that IMHO the FARM steaks surpassed Janko's Little Zagreb and were just about the same price - so I guess that means FARM is my new go-to for good meat. Steaks were cooked perfectly, and while I'm not a fan of anything called 'vegetable succotash' it was pretty good. The mashed potatoes were great. We didn't order dessert because we had theater tickets and were running behind, but next time I'm going for the milk chocolate mud pot. I saw one and it looked delish. I have a reason to return soon!!! The atmosphere is unique - think farm house. The table and chairs reminded quite a bit of my grandmother's house. Funky decor everywhere. I liked the look and feel of the place, though our table was a bit close to the one next to us - will know next time to ask for a different spot. Service was a bit slow, but to be fair they do warn you that every dish is made to order and it might take a bit longer. The place was packed, so that may have made a difference too. All in all, a great place with great food. Don't go if you're looking for an inexpensive night on the town, but don't fret that you'll have a $200 dinner for two either. Somewhere inside this restaurant is a pretty good restaurant, dying to get out. But the whole place is in desperate need of an editor-- visual and conceptual. As for visual: FARM is a visually crowded space, with books, objects, and produce for sale, and tables, a bar, a sort of coffee bar, and lots of different rooms with an unclear relationship to one another. The effect is more of being in your grandmother's very-cluttered old house than of being in a good restaurant. And the menu has so much stuff on it (with such indecipherable organization) that it is almost unintelligible until you really begin to study it. Is it a small-plates restaurant, a Caribbean restaurant, a high-end restaurant for locavores, a pizza place, or what? As for conceptual: We got two salads and a pizza. The salads-- despite containing fresh and good ingredients-- were bad. One had the unhappy marriage of strawberries, lettuce, and green goddess dressing. Strawberries and green goddess dressing do not pair well together. My salad, or lettuce, asparagus, and wild garlic dressing, had more promise. But the dressing was thin, grainy, and mysteriously only poured on a small portion of the salad. The lettuce was still covered in so much water that the dressing wouldn't stick. The pizza, though, was pretty good. Why roast chicken and roast vegetables were on a pizza, and why the resulting pizza called itself "puttanesca," I cannot say. But the crust was pretty tasty. They obviously have a real oven, and somewhere behind things, a real chef. This confusing set of food is served with amazingly ironic detachment. It's not that our server was incompetent. It's just that she didn't do anything like refill water or bring plates. Whenever we would ask, she would say "sure," and immediately give us what we asked for. But the tone (and the fact that we had to ask) made us feel like we were begging, and lose confidence in the whole operation. You can find very good things to eat here. (Disclaimer: I've only had a couple really good items from the menu.) So, I got to know Farm's in my college years, and I can say that the place is inviting because it is nicely lit. Don't get put off by the dividing sheets and random decor; take it in as part of the ambiance. One of my favorite items they had there a few years ago as part of their specials was fried eggplants sliders, which were delicious and had some type of sour cream-looking cheese--had it a few times. (Wish they'd bring that back.) They also have delectable super thin, simple, crunchy pizzas--not as fulfilling as your regular pizzas but much tastier than most. Also, if you go, you must try the great garlic fries with lemon zest, herbs, and aioli. I must go back to try more items when I go visit campus again. The place can get packed on weekends and evenings, so try to RSVP. If you go when it's packed, have patience with the service. read more

I try to eat at Farm Bloomington a couple times a year and have always raved about the place to friends, but last nights experience was very disappointing! My daughter and I ordered hummus and Cod cakes from the small plates menu to share and Paella as our main course. All three dishes came out at the same time and since we were sitting at a two top table, there wasn't even room enough for everything. So we got slammed with food but the real disappointment came when we tried the Paella. It was overcooked and dried out. I can not prove this but it came out so fast that I suspect it was mistakenly made before we arrived, set under the heat lamp for quite some time and then served to us because we unfortunately ordered it. There were real flowers on the table which I thought was a pretty cool touch. You can see into the kitchen which was also pretty cool watching the food being made. I ordered coffee and an appetizer of: "from the menu" FARMFAMOUS GARLIC FRIES Parmesan, chili, flakes, lemon zest & fresh herbs, garlic & turmeric aioli - 8.5 These were pretty good but tasted like several lemons worth of juice were squeezed on top. They were pretty good and fresh but the over use of the lemon juice ruined them where i couldn't eat much. If the lemon had been used sparingly then Im positive they would have rocked. For my main dish I ordered: "from the menu" THE LUGAR BURGER "A Food Network Fave" 7oz. bison burger, columbus cowboy espresso chili rub, dill pickle, potato salad - 15 (Chef suggests medium rare) Add cheddar, swiss, blue, or Capriole Farm's goat cheese - 2 Add Mariah's peppered bacon - 2 I have never had anything like this before. It was very unique. I still today am not sure if I even really enjoyed the food as much as I enjoyed trying something completely new. Which for me made this trip a winner overall. The food at Farm has always been great. In the past, service was spotty- sometimes good but usually frustrating. There must be new management because service has dramatically improved in the past year! We made three visits in the past two months and were seated quickly, had wonderful waiters and waitresses, and felt really well cared for. Came here for lunch on Friday for IU's graduation weekend. It was about 12:15pm when we got there, and we were sat right away. The place was busy but nothing out of the normal. There was a limited menu because of graduation which our party of six was a little disappointed in. Nothing really stood out. I secretly wish we could have left after looking at the menu, but I don't have that kind of power in my family!!! We ordered drinks which took a good 20 minutes to be brought to the table. This is a good precursor for how bad the service was going for the next two hours.... We ended up ordering food right when our waitress returned with the drinks. The food took over an hour to get to our table because of a mixup in the kitchen. The worst part about it was our waitress never came over to our table and explained what happened until we asked her multiple times. All the food was pretty tasteless and subpar. My brother's pizza was salty and he barely ate any of it. My salmon salad ($25) was very boring and one piece of salmon was totally overcooked and the other was raw in the middle. The hummus was bland, and the breakfast casserole was watery and cold. The only saving grace for the biscuits. They were very good. The only reason this place is getting two stars instead of one is because the management and wait staff decided to take the cost of our entrées off the bill. The bill was still $130, but at least we didn't have to pay for any of the food we waited two hours for, and barely ate. To say the least I would not return here again, ever. read more

The Farm will always be the first restaurant that I tried in Bloomington almost 6 years ago when I was just considering where to attend college, so it is definitely a special place to me. After completing my time at IU and beginning to pack up in Bloomington, I still have to say that their "World's Greatest BLT" is really the greatest. The peppercorn bacon is amazing and the ingredients are fresh. They also have a nice selection of lattes. I have only ever been for lunch as the other menus are on the pricey side for students. With that being said, it would be a great place to try when parents are in town visiting students. Finally made it, I've heard soooo much buzz about this place and it's been on my list for a minute. We got there mid lunch service and was excited to try this burger we had heard soooo much about. Someone will be here in a minute he snarks back. I assume they're very busy, so I take a quick leer around the room which has two 4 tops, a two top, and a three top in the bar, the place seemed pretty empty. So I decided to ask the barrista are you open still? He said yup and walked away. Finally another man very tall, darker hair came up grabbed menus and walked back towards the bar. He grunted and looked at us, my partner replied I think we're supposed to follow him, so we did. He gave no interjection no hows your day nothing and sat us infront of the TV. Our waiter finally came by and asked what he wanted... literally said, so, what do you want. I said im not sure this is our first time here, we drove up from indy. Before I could finish he cut me off, fine ill get you some water. He was gone for a while. I didn't want to be that customer, but also lunch time in a cafe I don't feel is time for a TV blasting news/sports stuff. He said YOU can sit wherever you want. And left again. When he came back I tried to inquire about the burger of the day. Because that was just what it said, burger of the day MP (MARKET PRICE). He said its our normal burger and went to get our beers. I was going to get a salad, but....So these beautiful spuds are served up with a creamy slighlty heated garlic & tumeric aioli. I was cautious but curious, so I gave her a dip & I think this may be my new addiction! 2nd course: "theyre usual burger" burger, lettuce, tomato, red onion. With slaw. (So they brought us potato salad instead of slaw) no biggie I told the gentleman who brought it out he said o no, and was back in a few minutes with the slaw. So yay we get to try both, but ugh no. I would never get either of these again! The potato salad, consisted of boiled potatoes, parsley, maybe some lemon juice? Something I'm not sure exactly, but it tasted sour, like expired, like maybe it had been sitting in the fridge for more than a week. The slaw was just shredded cabbage with some type of mustard drizzled on it? It was like no slaw I had ever had, nor would want again. It was raw, unflavorful... (but it did look pretty!) Now to the burger, at the suggestion we got it with goat cheese. The dinner menu had this burger listed at $15, $3 extra for cheese, $3 extra for bacon. So I assumed similar for lunch? Now their usual burger is a bison burger served medium with veg, pickle spear on the side, sauce on the side. I was thrilled when it arrived, I'm a burger fanatic, especially bison! First bite, the bun was soggy, the burger patty was an overcooked, mushy, flavorless mess. The goat cheese at the recommendation of the server did not help with the texture. I was soooo disappointed. Also the size was pretty small, maybe 4/5 bites? Uggghhh. So yep... that's all I literally have nothing good to say about this burger. He brought us the check before we even finished, didn't ask about desert, coffee, nothing... I'm really torn, I wanted to love it, but.... I used to enjoy FARM. I've lived in this town for fourteen years... I remember when it opened. Tonight I was with a large group, so I expected a bit of a wait. It ended up taking nearly two hours to get my dinner. And... even though I carefully explained to the server how it was "very important" that my salad not have croutons or any kind of bread, it arrived covered in croutons. This is the SECOND TIME IN A ROW that FARM has done this to me. Last time they made a new meal (which took an extra 30 minutes, even though the server promised he would rush it)... tonight I didn't have time to wait. TWO. HOURS. I will never go to FARM again. The best way to describe the experience of Farm Bloomington is one of a vintage, chic and quirky brunch location that happens to serve alcohol. Their menu is unique in that they typically serve French toast or eggs, but then they have a smaller, more specific menu to accompany that with seasonal selections. My sweet skillet (in November) was filled with pumpkin and sweet cream, surrounded by a sea of caramel, populated by caramelized pecans, walnuts, blueberries and blackberries. Amazingly long wait while viewing a startlingly expensive menu for what the ingredients make up the meals. But I'll be opened minded. After finally getting seated, it took some time for a waitress to come to our table. We ordered fairly quickly but waited very long. I must say the menu and decor is quite impressive but quickly exposed as a front by the food served. My Bison Burger came on a stale bread. No lie. The burger itself lacked any flavor. Like no spice, not even Liquid Smoke. The potato salad? Yech. I thought maybe it was me until my daughter tasted it and said "like air freshener". Her pizza? Shameful compared to Jersey but I will be opened-minded. It was somewhat flavorful enough that I could abandon my meal and eat what my daughter could not. The tastiest part of the pizza were the capers and Kalimata olives, which are of course, jarred. I found nothing truly farm fresh in all that we ordered. Save yourself time and money: walk up Kirkwood to Uptown instead. We attempted to have a nice brunch/lunch at Farm. Unfortunately, it was a series of unfortunate events: 1. We were told it would be a 25 minute wait, put our names in, and sat down. 2 groups that came in after us got seated first--35 minutes later. 2. Brunch options limited and lackluster. (Also, why are French fries served with brunch and hashbrowns served with burgers?) Adding cheese to an $18 burger is $2.50 extra. A biscuit with jam is $3. Not impressed. 3. The latte was so hot I scalded my tongue and couldn't drink it for 10 minutes. That's a repeat McDonald's lawsuit waiting to happen. 4. It took 45 minutes--after waiting for 35, getting drinks after 10--to get served lukewarm food. 5. Our server checked on us once during that wait to ask how I wanted my eggs bc she forgot to ask. No "I'm sorry for the wait, it'll be out soon!" Nope. Passed by our table 6x without checking in. We had to pull her aside after 45 minutes to inquire when our food would be out. Upon checking, she said she wasn't sure, only to have another person bring us our food 2 minutes after. Due to the temperature, it was clear it had been sitting, forgotten. 6. They forgot the butter/jam I requested with the biscuit. They forgot the fries with the burger. Overall, this was the worst experience I've had dining in all of Bloomington. I absolutely loved Farm Bloomington. Every time I visit Bloomington I always make sure to have a big bowl of the Garlic/lemon fries. The service is exceptional, and all the staff are so nice! I recommend the iced tea, which has a hint of mango. I also had the soup of the day which was Caribbean Clam Chowder, which was very good. For desert I had the Panna Cotta. The mingling of tart berries and pudding is amazing!! I will always go there when I'm in Bloomington! read more

I was taken back and amazed to find this wonderful restaurant in Bloomington! You would think it was in a larger city...I loved where I was seated near the bar. My view out the window was entertaining....one of the better bartender in Bloomington can mix up a great drink for you! My salad was so fresh and nice mixture of assorted Greens...the came my BBQ ribs out..1/2 rack was plenty for me; but next time I'd get the full rack. First, thank you! The pride flag in the window is wonderful to see. Second, service was top-notch. The restaurant was getting busy and not one time did any of the employees get flustered. Third, the food suggestions from our server were on point. We sampled 3 entrees and each of them got rave reviews, the vegetable plate, the broiled fish and the curry up and wait pizza with added jalapeños. Even my extremely unsophisticated uncle made a comment about how wonderful the iced tea was and how much he enjoyed the food. Way to go! I sure wish I would have gotten the Bananas Foster! Not knowing where to go for lunch, I made the mistake of thinking the food must be good due to the 30 minute wait. Bad service, bad food and overpriced. Food came out all at different times and we are still waiting for another salad $9 for biscuits ??? 2 eggs and bad French fries for $15. read more
