Hoping they were just having an off day today. We've been wanting to go for ages, but with two kids under two it just hasn't happened. This place is definitely not toddler friendly. We understandably had high hopes with the reviews we saw but we're disappointed in the quality of the food. Especially for Charlottesville. We started things out with the Biscuit Board....as you can see the amount of ham wasn't even enough for the two of us and the overall quality of the ingredients left a lot to be desired. Not much for flavor even when you add the mustard and apple butter. The biscuits were crumbly and tasted stale. Everything was so cold the butter wouldn't even melt on them. The ham lacked any sort of flavor as well. My husband got the steak bowl which was okay once he added the home made hot sauce to it, but I got the Crab Benedict option which was honestly terrible. The English muffin was mushy and inedible, more like a soft slice of Italian bread that happened to be wet. The poached egg needed to rest a moment as it was still quite wet which seeped into everything underneath. The crab cake could have been good but was so soggy I wasn't sure if it was cooked completely. The hollandaise sauce was light to the point I couldn't actually taste it. The egg was cooked well, perfectly poached, just very wet. The hash browns were cold, lacked flavor, were not crispy in the slightest and just really surprised me with how bad they were. The asparagus...goodness if they hadn't used the butt of the asparagus they could have been okay but they used the part you usually toss so it was so tough you couldn't even chew it. The arugula it sat on was more or less a catch all for the drippings and disgusting if you had thought of eating it. We also each ordered coffee and I couldn't recommend it. Maybe their espresso is okay but their drip is not worth the 3$ a cup. It was bitter and lacked depth. I couldn't drink mine which was disappointing especially with how many incredible roasters are in this area. The only really good thing there was the apple cider mimosas, essentially bold rock and orange juice and they were incredible. I make it my mission to predominantly support local businesses and Charlottesville doesn't typically disappoint. Hoping today was a fluke, the staff definitely seemed really stressed out and nervous so maybe something was going on? Will try again the next time the grandparents have the babies. read more

Great breakfast food staples with a southern farm to table feel. When I went it was early in the morning and I walked in without having to make a reservation. I got the blueberry pancakes and an apricot scone. The blueberry pancakes were fluffy and tasted nice, yet the blueberries were only on top and were not baked into the pancakes themselves. I think it would have been better if they were baked into the pancakes and if the maple syrup came in a container where I could pour it better (it came in a disposable sauce cup). The apricot scone was great and there was a pear spread that went onto it nicely. Along with the meal, I got a chai latte which was fine, but it was a little bit sweet for my taste. The restaurant is very charming with historical decor. It's very open and airy as well. I can not give this awesome brunch spot anything than 5 stars! We made a reservation the Saturday Morning before Easter and chose to sit inside, upstairs. Once we arrived, we were then ushered up the stairs into a doorway (room) with a number 2 on it. We walked in to find the tables setup for dining while staying distanced in a beautifully lit room. Service was very prompt and our server along with the bar staff were super polite and courteous! Upon sitting my husband ordered the Latte' with Coconut Milk and I ordered a Virgin Bloody Mary. The latte had a great rich flavor and was frothed perfectly! The Bloody Mary came served in a tall glass garnished with olives and lime. The Bloody Mary mix had a wonderful horseradish flavor! For starters, we decided to try the Biscuit Board (pictured) which came with four scratch biscuits cooked to perfection, served with four house choice accompaniments. Stone ground mustard, country ham, pulled pork gravy, and what tasted like a spiced peach butter. All great and delicious! I chose to try the Banana Foster's French Toast as my entree as well as a side of black eyed peas. The French toast was amazing and had the consistency of a rich, buttery, almost croissant type bread. The bananas, powdered sugar, and wonderful syrup put me into bliss overload so I used the peas to calm my palette. The peas were good and fresh as well and I'll be sure to try them for a later meal in the future! My husband got the "platter" which comes with eggs any way, hash browns, bacon or sausage , and grits or a biscuit. His over medium eggs were cooked just the way he likes them, bacon crispy :), grits instead of biscuit were yummy, and the hash browns were potato pieces with peppers in them. Once again, the sweet peppers aren't our favorite but we will try anything. The potatoes were still cooked well! I had breakfast here while visiting Charlottesville. It was conveniently located right across the street from our hotel. We were also able to make reservations, and without them, I doubt we would have been able to enjoy a meal here. It is a small space, and I watched them turn many people away due to waits of 1 hour to 1.5 hours long. Service was very friendly and eagar to please. Our server was very polite taking our drink order and asking if we needed more time to review the menu before ordering our food. We had a small child with us, and they already had a high chair ready and brought a cup with a cover and straw. They also seemed unphased by a small child throwing cherrios everywhere. My only issue was having to ask for a coffee refill rather than being offered. The menu is a mix of traditional and items that sound like they are trying too hard. For example, the eggs cooked in avocado havles. I've never seen that in a restaurant before, and it surprised me to see such an item offered. I ordered the South by Southwest, and my breakfast companion ordered a Come N' Get It Platter and a pancake and bacon for her child. The food came out relatively quickly, and we enjoyed our meal. I really liked the blacked eyed peas, as a Midwestern, I was unfamiliar with the southern style bean and thought they were good, although it a bit messy to eat like a taco. I enjoyed the avocado salsa as well it was flavorful. My breakfast companion enjoyed her breakfast and commented on how good the hashbrowns were. Overall it was a good experience with good food. There was so much potential, but the three items I ordered, each missed the mark, and left me unimpressed. Although they were not stingy with the salmon on the salmon bruschetta, the fish did not taste fresh. It smelled very fishy... even though there were plenty of garlic slices on top, along with chopped tomatoes and onions. But really that was about it. Could have used some kind of mustard-dill sauce. There was no sauce on top and it was just very plain and fishy. Not pleasant. I would have to say the same for the brisket brunch platter. The brisket was cooked ok - moist, but again, it was just average. Nothing special about it. Same for the blackeyed peas on the side, and the scrambled eggs. I could have gotten this at a Golden Corral. Again, it could have used some kind of sauce to accompany the dish. Even the biscuit didn't come with any kind of preserves or jam. The only thing that was remotely flavorful on the platter was the sweet potato tostone. it was tasty. The buttermilk pancakes were fluffy and moist... but could have used more peaches and less whipped cream. I did like the coconut flakes sprinkled on it. I loved my brunch at Farm Bell and can't wait to return. I went with a colleague, for a casual brunch meeting, and I had my toddler son with me as well. The main dining area was pretty full and loud, due to the number of diners, so my colleague, arriving before me, asked if we could be seated in the empty front room to have more privacy/quiet for our meeting. They obliged graciously, and while it was probably a pain for the server to have to come up to the front just to check on us, she did so with a smile on her face. The manager also checked on us at one point and he was very friendly and nice to my son. The decor was beautiful and elegant without seeming stuffy, and I especially loved the chartreuse wall color in the bathroom! We ordered coffees, and then got the crab "beignets" to share. Similar to a crab cake, except more bready like a donut, but still very crab forward--delicious. Then we ordered two brunch entrees with the aim to split each so we could try more things on the menu. We got the bananas foster french toast and the avocado egg bake. One sweet, one savory. One mostly healthy, one definitely extravagant and caloric. A good balance. The french toast was soo creamy and delicious. Definitely like bananas foster, except breakfast version. Not TOO sweet, but definitely sweet. I felt like I couldn't stop eating it. The egg bake was also good, but not amazing, jaw-dropping, "will-definitely-order-again" material. An egg cooked into half of an avocado served with toasted bread, salsa and breakfast potatoes. Hearty and substantial, the potates were probably my favorite part. There was enough on the menu that I know there are plenty of other things I'd like to try and would enjoy, and so I will definitely be back. read more

Both exploding with flavor and the meats so tasty! I loved the originality of this Benedict- it's really not a Benedict at all with fried grits as the muffin! We of course licked our plates clean. With some extra room in our bellies, we wanted to try the scratch biscuits so we ordered the side which comes with preservatives- they were a bit over cooked/crunchy and dry for me so glad we didn't get more. The potatoes and vegetables made made it pretty filling and flavorful. My plate was also kinda dirty however, but hopefully that's just from when they were placing the food there lol. I tried my friend's pancakes ($13) and they were solid. Pretty fluffy and flavorful, though we had the house syrup because maple syrup is a $2 surcharge. We finally got the chance to head to Farm Bell Kitchen and it's everything I hoped for and more. The space is super cute with various rooms in an old house providing separate seating areas. We sat up front by the window and it was perfect. We started off with some cocktails and they were delightful, though we were saddened they were all out of the Heirloom Bloody. We then had the crab beignets to share and man were they good. They were light and doughy but the old bay sprinkled on top was delish. For meals I had the Farmer's Market Platter because the black eyed peas were calling my name. The vegetables were okay, but the fruit salad and eggs made it a perfect platter. Oh and the biscuit was good, though not the best I've ever had. He had Ofelia's Benedict and was very pleased. They do charge $2.50 if you're taking any left overs which I thought was a bit excessive so be mindful of that as well!
