This spot is amazing! We hit it up on our way to the Afton 151 adventure from the 757. Our server was phenomenal, the drinks came out quick while we waited for our food. Overall we had a lovely experience eating and drinking at Fardowners restaurant. It's definitely a family owned business. The warmth of the employees is so nice. We started with their Mac n cheese and it was amazing! I got the Fardowners burger and it was cooked to perfection. The meat was fresh and lean, absolutely delicious. The bean soup was homemade and was hot and filled with tasty ingredients. I love the feel of the restaurant inside, lots of cool art. The people make the real difference here, you can tell how invested they are in helping each other as a team. I've been to a lot of good restaurants and this one ranks in the top in the hospitality/excellent home cooked food category. Service is s.l.o.w. The food is delicious The bathrooms are very clean, despite a lot of traffic in and out. The bar tenders tend to be a bit rude, I understand a crowd is hard to please, but you could smile and say hello, or offer a water, or just greet your patrons?! "What do you want?" Just rubs me wrong. I'll certainly be back, but just be aware that if you are not a local or a regular, you might feel slightly out of place, at least at the bar. We came on a busy Saturday and requested a booth so we had a bit of a wait but we didn't mind and the hostess was wonderful. We got a window spot after about 15 minute wait and quickly ordered two beers for ourselves and a side of bacon and Mac and cheese for our toddler. The Mac and cheese didn't have much pasta in it but it was a spiral pasta which was yummy and tons of tasty and real cheese sauce that we dipped our fries in later. I ordered the quinoa salad but it had mainly white rice instead of quinoa being the main base which was disappointing but it was still yummy. Hubby got a steak and cheese but he was not impressed. I see why he was making so many, because it was great. My wife and I ordered the Fardowners' bowl and wrap and they were both pretty good. Perfect locals' spot to grab lunch after cruising the Blue Ridge Parkway. Husband and I stopped in for lunch on a Monday. Service was friendly and attentive. We noticed several regulars being greeted by name at the bar and other tables. Great selection of local beers on draft ($1 off draft beers 3-6pm). We shared the totchos -- so satisfying! They have a cozy space and a homey atmosphere with pretty delicious food, which proved for a pretty pleasant experience The three spice chicken wings were tender and juicy; literally falling off the bone while packing a nice kick of heat without being too spicy, and was an excellent way to start off the meal. I really enjoyed my Philly Cheeseteak as well. It had just the right amount of cheese with flavorful meat on a soft toasted roll served with crispy seasoned French fries that were bomb! I was lowkey trying to refrain from licking my fingers when I was done. All in all, I can see why this place is pretty popular amongst the locals in the area. It doesn't look like much both on yelp and just from a walk by. It looks like a small bar, what is got amazing food. I opted for the Ruben, which is probably one of the best ones I've been able to find in the area. The meat was a bit tough sometimes, but not bad. The person I was with got the buffalo mac & cheese, which really just tasted like mac & cheese personally. It was very creamy and delicious nevertheless. Nice crunchy breading but they were tiny and not all that flavorful. So disappointing. The Fardowners salad, on the other hand, was very delicious. Blackened chicken, blue cheese, carrot straws, mixed greens with a very good house balsamic dressing. Great service . And they split the plate for us, which was a nice touch. Portion could easily have served two. My dad ordered a burger that was also huge and served with a side of choice (he got the sausage, which came in 3 large links) for also under $10. What may seem like an unassuming, everyday diner offers fantastic breakfast and lunch dishes with quick service, large portions, and low prices.
