Came here to eat while on our family camping trip. We had been before and were excited to treat your family to a nice restaurant.......what a drastic change from our first time! The first time I was great the restaurant was fun and full of people. When we walked in the place was almost empty, for a party or six they gave us two menus. Then you had to scan a QR code to order really not a fan or this especially with a party of six, self serve all your drinks and finally on top of what would call higher prices for sandwiches you get hit with a service fee because you ordered from an app. This place used to be good but has definitely gone down hill, we most likely will not be returning. read more

Passing through, brisket/pulled pork solid Dont leave without trying the cheesy bacon potatoes , worth the trip alone . Dont over eat , cause it would be a crime if you didnt save room for a piece of peanut butter pie . Brisket snob so I always look for places off the interstate, was slightly worried cause it wasn't in va s top 30 , but the family and I all enjoyed our visit . read more

Expensive and small portions. The food is good. $15-$19 per sandwich and no side. Shame because it was once a great place to stop. Service was to order at the front counter. Same interior but feels like the upbeat vibe from the past is gone. We'll pass next time. read more

Sat ourselves. Waited for 15 minutes without a server so we walked out. This place used to be great. Such a shame

The service was excellent. It felt quaint but was extremely efficient. The prices are what you would expect for BBQ restaurants. The food was good but it was very bland. It lacked basic seasoning but when you add the sauce it all came together. The sides were pretty good. I had the Mac & cheese. Drinks were self serve and it was easy to pay. Plenty of parking and easy to get to. I'd recommend this place to friends and families. This could be a homerun if they learn to season the meat. read more

This place has amazing food! No waitresses, but ordering is a breeze with the QR code. I love the pulled pork sandwich. I've also had the nachos with pulled pork and pulled chicken...yummy either way. Try the Raspberry BBQ sauce! The ribs fall off the bone! You must give this place a try. Everything is so good. Be sure to save room for dessert: chocolate cake, peanut butter pie, and key lime pie are my favorites! read more

Update as of June 2025: downhill. The restaurant has changed completely. Whereas it was once a full table service establishment, it then became order-at-the-counter style during the pandemic (understandable). Today, you sit at a table and order from a QR and pay right then and there. Serve your own drinks. Then, strangely, it seems like they still expect a tip...for what exactly? I poured my own water. Food-wise...fine I guess though pales compared to the glory days. You get one free sauce in a TINY plastic ramekin (which they forgot to give me), and you pay for any sauces after that. What happened to the squeeze bottles on the table? Seriously. I also ordered a small size side of cole slaw, which was also left off. Why isn't cole slaw, at least in a small amount, not served automatically with a BBQ sandwich anymore? Ambiance is basically nonexistent. No music, fairly empty place, concrete floors, and everyone spaced so far out it felt like a wake. They need to bring back real portions, free/included standard things like sauce and sides, and for god's sake pep the energy of the place up a little. I have no plans to return. read more

Not sure if this place is under new management or just decided to go cheaper with their ingredients but used to love this spot now I hate it. Everything now tastes extremely bland! Your sides were amazing! Shame on whoever there approved this new food tasting better read more

This place is legit worth a stop if you want top notch BBQ. I had the 3 Meat Combo and it was so much food I barely finished it all, even after a day of hiking. The pulled pork and brisket were both really tasty and the ribs were the best I've had in a long time. The BBQ beans were just right without being too sweet and the collards and corn bread were likewise spot on. My half sweet/half unsweet tea was just right too. Service was really friendly and we grabbed a seat outside on the patio on a weekday around dinnertime. This place is a must try if you're in Crozet or on vacation in the nearby mountains. read more

I went here with some friends after a hike. They've moved to a QR code & online ordering system, which they charge a 10% service fee on, & then ask for a tip after. I appreciate the efficiency but not the extra charge. The drinks are self serve, & the only interaction you have with a sever is when they bring your food out. I got the pastrami sandwich which was good for the most part, I especially liked the sauce. Parts of the meat was rather tough though. Overall it was still good though, the great & pickles were great. I got the cheesy potatoes as a side, & was disappointed with those. It was small, tasted like frozen shredded hash browns with some cheese & bacon mixed in. Nothing to write home about. I did enjoy the casual atmosphere, there was some really nice outdoor seating, & overall the place was clean. read more

We came in from New Hampshire for the Thanksgiving weekend. We ordered a full smoked turkey, dressing, gravy, and collard greens. Oh my my. So delicious. I was worried it might taste overly smoky but it was just around in the background which was perfect. The collards were a taste of South in my mouth and the gravy... so so good. Thank you so much for making our holiday special. read more

The smoke meats are wonderful But all the side items are way to salty. Could not eat them read more

I advise anyone reading to NOT waste your time or your money coming to Smoked Kitchen and Tap. Very high price for very low quality, my food was mushy and cold. And I'm positive I've heard the Owner of this establishment mistreating her employees on multiple occasions. They've also had multiple roach problems to date. I'd steer clear from dining here or applying for a job here. Seems like a gigantic hot mess. read more

Seriously some of the most delicious BBQ I've ever had! The brisket is TO DIE For. Creamed corn is 10/10. Love all of their homemade sauces. It helps that everyone working there is super kind and service is on point. Highly recommend this delicious place! Great for carry out too. read more

We stopped here for our first meal after coming into town. What a great choice! Everything was absolutely delicious! Gluten-free items are clearly marked and the staff is friendly. My husband and I tried multiple sides and meats with the two meat platter each. Everything was amazing. We were so full, but we even ordered the cheesecake and it is gluten-free as well! We both highly recommend this establishment for the staff and the food! read more

Delicious food and sauces! They give you a decent amount of food for the price, and we all left feeling full and satisfied. I'm only taking off a star because you have to get your own drinks and order online or at the bar, so there's not really sit-down service. read more

The brisket was really good. Moist and flaky. But there is zero hospitality here. Do it yourself for not cheap prices. Everything is a la cart. Sides were flavorful. Guy brought our beer out after we ordered by scan code and it was dripping all over with no napkins because guess what?! You have to get those yourself! Cornbread is mini. Sides are mini. My friend chicken was just a flat breast fried. But the no service has me not going back. read more

We have been searching for a good BBQ joint since we moved here in 2014, but have had little luck in that department. People tried to tell me that BBQ Exchange and Pig n Steak we're good, they were both far below what I would consider good BBQ. Overall, this place exceeded my expectations and this will be our local BBQ stop going forward. Had a great flavor but all the meat was just a smidge overcooked, but that is what you get for going to a BBQ restaurant an hour before closing. ZZQ in Richmond still has the best brisket I have eaten in Virginia but this place is right there. If your friends tell you BBQ Exchange and Pig n Steak is good, they are not your friends. read more

The food is awesome. I Love the greens and the brisket. My kids will eat the greens too!

The food was okay, a few decent choices for drinks. But service? First of all it's basically a DIY setup. They have a QR code to place orders, and then it's dropped at your table. Prices are high, the location is okay, but could use a little more cleaning TBH. The sides were $3 and you get about 2 tablespoons worth. The staff were just hanging around on their phones, not even acknowledging our party or doing anything productive. We had to get up and ask for silverware and plates to eat the appetizers. Overall, it's okay. read more

Man words don't express how much I love this restaurant. Unfortunately due to the issues at the piedmont place is is not as far from my location as I would like but I still will visit every once in a while. This spot really reminds me of a Paul George type player because it really has no weakness. You can a burger, you can get barbecue, this restaurant gives you what you want man - I am a big takeout guy and countless times this is the spot on a big sports night. An example of that would be the Super Bowl or the weird series where my old man and I enjoyed barbecue and baseball. I HIGHLY Recommend this place, trust me you won't have a bad time there. read more

Not sure if something changed, but the pork ribs and pulled pork did not taste as good this time. The ribs were overcooked and dry. There was nothing succulent about the food. Previous experiences here have been great. May need to find another option if this is the new normal :( read more

Lots of options and pathways for you to choose depending on how you're feeling. I enjoyed the Turkey barbecue platter with the Alabama white sauce with sweet potato fries and the broccoli salad. Not a barbecue expert but everything tasted balanced, both in flavor and how the tastes paired with each other. Not overpriced for the quality and amount of food, and the outdoor seating was a bonus read more

The bbq itself seems good according to my friends. I got the nachos and they were a little sad. Tostitos rounds and super sweet bbq sauce kind of ruined it but the other toppings were fine. I couldn't finish them. They'd be better if they had salsa or pico instead of a ton of bbq sauce. read more

The food was excellent. I just moved from NoVa and thought the barbecue up there could not be matched. However, Smoked has the best pulled pork I have ever eaten. It is heavenly! And the deviled eggs are fabulous. read more

Smoked has a ton of potential, but that is where it stops. The restaurant itself is clean and spacious. However, I have experienced the same issues across 4-5 visits. First and foremost, I have yet to see a smoker actually in use. If they aren't smoking meats on-site, then that leads me to believe they are simply keeping the meats warm throughout the day. This makes sense as the ribs, brisket, etc. generally are overcooked. On one occasion, everything our family received was cold. Cold sides, cold grilled cheese for our child, and luke warm meat. In addition, the only people working in the restaurant are teenagers. I have yet to see the owner or a pit master at the restaurant. In my experience, pitmasters are hard workers that attend to every detail of their food as they are proud of it and want to ensure a positive experience for their customers. At Smoked, it's just kids running the show. If the owner / pitmaster isn't there, then I feel like they don't have much interest in the product they are putting out to the public. It appears to just be a turnkey operation while they sit back and worry about other things. In a town with such limited dining options, it is disappointing that a place with such potential isn't realizing it. read more

Got takeout. Nice looking place inside though. We expected the chicken to be pulled. It was cubed instead, but was still good. It was very smokey. The fried chicken was to die for. You get a huge portion, 2 breasts. The breading is awesome. I love the use of large salt pieces. I'd order it again in a heartbeat. Loved the Mac and cheese too. And the cornbread tasted like cake. It was awesome. read more

Date of visit: May 30, 2020 As far as my hubby and I are concerned, we don't know how this place can earn less than 5 stars! We were headed to a winery in the Crozet area, which we don't know at all, so Off to YELP I go, once again! I placed my order when we were about 25 minutes out and we waited only about 5 more minutes. No worries...totally worth the wait! I ordered the: Smokehouse chicken salad club $13 signature smoked chicken salad, texas toast, swiss, honey mustard, bacon, lettuce, and tomato It came with a side and I chose the BEST EVER sweet potato fries I have ever eaten! The sandwich was amazing and huge!!! My hubby ordered the: Smoked 'Reuben' $14 house smoked pastrami, candied bacon, melted swiss, thousand island, slaw, grilled marble rye He chose the bacon cheesy potatoes as his side...what else can I say!? We will make the one hour plus drive there again, just for these sandwiches! read more

Smoked kitchen is a delightful lunch spot in Crozet with a southern menu. The atmosphere is casual and open which makes it a great lunch spot. The service is friendly and fast. While we were there we tried brisket and chicken. The meat was tender and flavorful. The biggest downfall I saw was the lack of veggie side options. Obvious you go for the delicious meats but as someone who needs something else which a meat I felt like I was left with few options. I did love their cornbread! It may not be traditional but it tastes like yellow cake mix. Overall it's a delicious place and I know I'll go back! read more

Absolutely melt in your mouth perfection! We were a bit skeptical walking it and realizing it had a mission BBQ feel vs. sit down & be served restaurant. We ordered the pick 3 with 2 pork bbq and brisket and two sides, Mac and cheese and bacon cheese potato's. The meat was *chefs kiss* delicious and the Mac & cheese was yummy as well. The potato's were fine but I'd like to try a different side if we are ever back in the area. If your driving past this tiny city, take a chance and try some bbq. read more

We stopped here after leaving Charlottesville heading west. It was easy to find off the interstate, but the lack of outdoor signage on the building marked "Piedmont Place" left us wondering where to park and enter. It was busy inside, even at 2pm, but our food came quickly and was delicious. The portions are large, and the kid portions are huuuuge (especially for $6). Don't miss this place. Great food, nice atmosphere, good service, and you won't leave hungry. read more
