Right in the middle of Colerain Twp is this walking and woodsy park. You might be able to get close to two miles if you tread on all the asphalt and graveled areas. There is a barn and activities with the Hamilton county Parks. It's so close, I can walk to the park, so I don't need my parking pass. You could park in the church parking lot next door, although I like to support the local parks. Get out and hike!!! read more

Farbach-Werner Nature Preserve is an awesome park in the middle of suburban Cincinnati. It's located on the old property owned by a family. The house is now the visitor center and gift shop. It has many opportunities to see animals. There's a few miles of trails. At the entrance is a large parking lot. It's usually not busy in the park, so it's easy to find somewhere to park. The visitor's center and gift shop is located in the former house owned by the family who donated the park for others to enjoy and use. Among the most common wildlife I've seen are turtles, which crawl right across the path I was able to get a close picture of a turtle. The park is kind of a hidden gem, but it's easy to find. It's located at the corner of Colerain Avenue and Poole Road. This is only a few miles from 275 so it's pretty convenient to get to. read more

Farbach-Warner is a small park with trails through a preserved wooded are. While there, you can see native plants, ponds with fish and a meadow along a couple of interpretive trails of varying lengths. It's a pretty easy walk for beginners and pre-intermediate/intermediate hikers of all ages--great for dog walkers, too. The signs along the paved paths educate us about the things you may see along the way, making it an interactive experience. There are also several programs and exhibits that happen throughout the year. You can check the Hamilton County Parks website for more information about upcoming events. There's something for everybody. But don't leave without a visit to Nature's Niche gift shop where you can find nature inspired items for home and garden, as well as art featuring works by Charlie Harper, the great modern wildlife artist. I can't believe I haven't written a review for this place yet! It's awesome! Its a quaint little oasis in the middle of the city. Unlike some of the larger Alt, Eden and Mt Airy's it is small and not so overwhelming for the little ones. I took my little man and we walked through the butterfly garden and saw tons of flowers, birds and bunnies. Further down the path there is a platform with dozens of turtles and fish just inside the pond. Sometimes people bring bread and toss it in. The turtles are so used to this that they swim over to the platform as soon as they see people even though the sign clearly states" do not" feed the wildlife. There is a bit of forest as well and a few structures that house all types of interesting things for adults and kids alike to get into. They also have scavenger hunts weekly reptiles on hand, food etc. This is the type of place that's good for someone who is not outdoorsy but wants to be surrounded by nature for a little while. It would make a great backdrop for a romantic picnic as well. I take my mentees here occasionally and it always helps to improve mood, calm the mind and relax everyone. A nice little park. A short trail with both paved & graveled parts. Not a difficult hike by any means. A good trail for young explorers. We went for the Maple Sugar Days. The volunteers were friendly and knowledgeable. We learned how to make maple syrup in a little over an hour. A nice event for families. Not an all day thing. They have picnic tables and a gift shop. The bathrooms are in the barn. Attached to the water fountain is a spout for refilling water bottles. It had a counter on it that says how many bottles were saved by people filling up at the fountain. It would nice to see the park in the spring. With no leaves on the trees, the surrounding community is easily viewable at several spots. Seeing a church, Home Depot, and apartment/ condo complex from the trail took away from the feeling that I was truly in nature. My children enjoy the outing. read more

This little oasis of nature in the suburban sprawl of Colerain remains one of my favorite area parks to go to. Lots of wildlife for such a small area. A beautiful walking path, decent if brief trail, pond & lots of flowers, trees & neat programs are part of the deal. read more

Although not the closest park to me, by far my favorite in the vicinity! I pass Mt. Airy daily, but I prefer Farbach Werner for an evening walk. There are paved walking trails that are easy, but they also have side trails (both paved and unpaved) that add a level of difficulty. You're in the middle of the city, but there is a definite peace you can feel, surrounded by nature. I love going to the pond, and seeing all of the turtles and fish. Unfortunately- it has been overrun by goldfish, but there are tons of them to look at! If you look at the banks during the spring and summer, you can usually find leopard and bull frogs. If there in the evening, you may not see them, but you can hear them :). There are always red eared sliders lined up getting sun & many will swim up to greet you (or get fed) as you stand on the pier. The wildlife there is pretty amazing for its location. I've seen deer several times, bunnies, birds galore, snakes, and there used to be a snapping turtle that lived in the runoff pond. Didn't see it at all, this year, but it could still be lurking around somewhere. The thing that makes this park so special is its special events. They always announce them on the signboard at the corner of Colerain and Poole. In winter, they tap their maple trees to make syrup and have a whole little festival to celebrate it. In the summer, they have different weeks celebrating different animals: frog week, snake week, turtle week, owl week. You go into the barn and they have the (mostly) native species of the animals in cages with various factoids. There are always games/crafts for the kids. I've seen birds of prey there, as they had a raptor rescue come and show off their animals (it was outside). It's such a cool, safe way to expose kids/people to the animals that surround us! They have a pumpkin walk every year, before Halloween, that is super cool. I've been on nature walks with the park where they teach you about the native trees and how to identify. An oasis in the middle of the Colerain madness! An excellent, small, well maintained park with short paved trails perfect for families and older folks. They also have a large barn/community center for group activities and exhibits. Natures Niche gift shop is charming with many Charlie Harper items for purchase. As with all Hamilton County parks, this one requires annual membership to enjoy. The purchase of a 10.00 car sticker will get you into this and all county parks. A great investment! read more

I've always been so curious about this place, so today my boyfriend and I came here with our dogs to take a look around. It's really sweet. Kind of perfect for dog walking. It is smaller than I thought it'd be, but for what space they have, everything is well distanced with plenty of trails to walk down. It was a nice change from the massive forest that is Mount Airy. Growing up in this township, I can truly say that Farbach is a treasure in the middle of nothing but car dealerships and fast food restaurants. It's my favorite place to take a walk for exercise, read a book, or just sit amongst the birds and squirrels and reconnect with nature. read more
