True Story. Several years ago, like 10 I think.. a very dear close friend who passed away last January, gave me a gift card to Faradays. I found the gift card shortly after her passing. The Suz and I decided we should update some of our kitchen stuff and celebrate Maria, since she was a big fan of Faraday's. Off we went, very easy to find and ample parking later, we arrived at this little, jam packed store. As we walked in, we were joyfully greeted by a little, bouncy, enthusiastic gal. I shared my story, she checked the card and let me know it was still good to go and off we went shopping. She stayed with us asked us what we were looking for or needed. This wasn't a hawkish sales person, but more of a cooking librarian. She was full of great suggestions for a new set of pans and other nick knacks we could find helpful. She then left us to our demise. There is a cornucopia of stuff, jammed on shelves on the wall and entire room dedicated to BBQ's, Stoves and the incredible "Egg". I was at first a little concerned at pricing due to the high level pricing shopping district we found ourselves in. But, I can report back from our most recent binge buying, they were no more expensive than shopping online. Seriously. On our first visit, our little energizer bunny explained the difference between Staub and Le Creuset. She smiled, well she had a mask on, but I could see the twinkle in her eyes, "About $100". Suz and I laughed out loud. Both were French, both excellent for what they are. I like to think of Le Creuset is an Audi and the Staub an Infiniti. Both fancy, both get you where you are going, but Audi is super proud of their product and image, hence their pricing. On this particular trip we picked up a Staub 7Q Dutch Oven, a 5 piece Woll Diamond Lite cookware set, substituted one pan for a Wok option, grabbed a new blender off a shelve and it was the last one they had so they gave me 10% off I think it was. A couple of cutting boards, one as a gift. They have a massive collection of knives by the way. Also picked up some other cooking utensils and stuff. Made our pile, paid and out the door we went. Yes, it was about $1K shopping trip, but we were replacing some old cookware, a 20 yr old blender and a nice big Blue Dutch Oven which I have always wanted. What I didn't know... we got on their email list and get reward points, which equal CASH YO! It's almost like taking another 1% or so off your purchase to use another day... which we did. A few weeks later. Been a few times now, yesterday picked up another Staub a 5Q one and some miscellaneous bits of tackle for the kitchen. Our little bunny was there again and we had a few guffaws together and she helped us sort the Staub and a fish spatula. BTW, if you check in while you are there, there is a $5 off instant coupon. Noice.

Korean cooking class: beef bulgogi

A great place to buy your kitchen needs and take a cooking class! My fiance and I have visited Faraday's twice now for cooking classes and had a blast both times. The first time we went was a Caribbean cooking class which featured a pork belly with mostarda, mojo chicken, and rum cake. As one would hope from a cooking class, everything was delicious. The pork belly was probably our favorite because of how it was cooked to a nice crisp while still juicy and how well the flavor balanced with the fruity mostarda. Chef Demeatrie who led the class was fantastic! Not only did she explain thoroughly, but she answered every question, even some personal questions about her life which was interesting to say the least given her travels and experiences. We had such a great time that we came back for her Korean class (something that we talked about with her, given that she had lived in Korea). That menu featured a corn cheese dish, beef bulgogi, and a sweet rice dessert. Again, Chef Demeatrie did not disappoint with instruction, humor, and great flavors. Surprisingly, the dessert might have been my favorite because the sweet rice had the perfect texture and great fall flavor of cinnamon. The classes are held in the back of the store where "students" sit against the round counter that encircles a small kitchen, allowing you to see the chef and other students. The chef has a kitchen assistant who helps out. There is also a small TV screen that shows part of the counter in case you are not at the best angle to see the action. No need to worry about memorizing the techniques because they provide copies of the recipe and a pen so you can take notes during the class. They provide bottled water and you can bring your own wine, so we made sure to bring wine with us the second time around (they provide glasses and a wine opener). With COVID, they have plastic shields around the inner part of the counter to separate the chef and students. At most, there were 8 other students including us, with a small distance separating each duo. Heads up: their seats are backless cushioned stools, so it can be a strain on a bad back. The classes we attended were not hands-on, but you can sign up for their other hands-on classes like pizza and pasta. I personally liked being able to just watch so I don't need to feel self-conscious or worried about messing up. The chef walks through how to cook the dishes, having parts of the recipe already prepped, and demonstrating the parts that make sense to be shown. Classes typically have a 3-course menu, and the two we went to were both satisfying meals and portions. Classes range from $59-69 and typically last around 2 hours or more in the evenings (sometimes afternoons). A small perk: the store stays open for another 30 minutes after the class so you can shop around and you get a 10% off discount for attending the class! The store itself is a chef's heaven, jam-packed with cooking equipment, gadgets, gear, cookbooks, you name it. It was so hard for me not to buy the whole store! Check out their website to see what they carry and reserve your spot for a cooking class now! Located in the Galleria in Bee Cave, there's plenty of parking.

After seeing all the sale and cooking class posts from following their Facebook page, I finally had time to stop in and check out Faraday's. Given the location, I was expecting this horribly overpriced frou-frou kitchen boutique. I found nothing of the sort. What I did find is every gadget imaginable in the culinary arts. If you wanted a left handed whizamajig, they have it. If you wanted a smaller somekabob because the one you have is too large, they have it. If you ever need a cookie cutter in a particular design, don't waste your time elsewhere, just come here instead. Being a gadget freak, I was in heaven. So much so, I left with about $120 in gadgety items, including a really nice three-piece H.A. Henckels cheese knife set that was over half-off. The cheapest I could find the set online was $80. Here it was $30. That was the biggest myth I busted here. I was told by my cashier (Pat, I think) that they remain competitive with Amazon. I had already noticed that prices seemed inline with what I would expect to pay at Bed Bath & Beyond or Kohls. While the aisles are tight, they have everything organized by function and not by brand the way that some of the kitchen stores do. That makes it much easier to compare and contrast items. They have good brand names as well, not no-name Chinese import knockoffs.. I've already mentioned Zwilling, and there's also a smattering of Oxo and Taylor as well. I'm not saying their products don't have a Chinese origin, just that the quality is on the higher end. I'm going to have to come back and try one of their cooking classes at some point. They seem pricey at first, but then you come to understand that they are led by a professional chef and you get a meal out of the bargain. I was warned not to come to the classes with a full stomach. Recommended.

Here are your options: Pay some clowns to come to your house and measure, then let them tell you…read morewhat they are going to do. Then watch them hire sub contractors and talk you into all sorts of high end stuff you didn't originally want. Ask a question, then wait days for a response while it goes up the ladder. Or, you can call Round Rock Direct. They measure for free, they do a 3d model for you (free), and they meet with you until you are done. The people you meet are the ones who you see doing the work. Brent is always there to answer questions. Brandon is too. No waiting for someone to ask someone. Also, they don't upsell you. They do something that the others don't do: they listen. I cannot recommend them highly enough. Im sure you googled all sorts of estimates like I did. They are less than that. Look at the pictures and decide for yourself. Support local businesses and hire a quality company. Call Brandon and Brent at Round Rock Direct.

We are in the process of completing a kitchen remodel using a design by Round Rock Cabinets Direct…read morewith cabinets manufactured by Waypoint. Our kitchen designer was helpful and courteous, and we ended up with a cool design with a good amount of high-end features (all plywood, 42 inch upper, two lazy susans, big base cabinet drawers, etc.) for our budget. The experience was much more pleasant than our quotes at Lowes/Home Depot, and we got a very reasonable quote. We ordered and paid on August 4th. Cabinets were actually delivered on September 12th. The 5+ week lead time was longer than we anticipated but workable and more of an issue with Waypoint. I was very concerned about potential quality issues based on reading online forums. There were some relatively minor paint problems that we can probably touch up (the promised touch up kit was not included in our sink base, unfortunately). We discovered two bigger problems: a cracked wall cabinet door and a missing gap in the design with no filler pieces to address. The 3.5 inch gap should have been addressed in the kitchen design and measuring process, but, alas, it was not. These two issues have delayed the completion of our project, inconveniencing my family and our install contractor. I reported the problem on 9/14, and we still have not received the corrected pieces as of 9/22. Tracking indicates possible delivery on 9/23. Waypoint claims to have "Rapid Resolution", but 9 days is far from rapid when you are in the middle of a renovation project. I was told the parts shipped on 9/16, but tracking indicates that shipment did not occur until 9/21. I hate to give a negative review, because the people I have worked with at Round Rock Cabinets have been friendly and helpful. That said, I don't feel very good about this situation. After a pretty good start to our project, the communication and resolution of our issues has not inspired much confidence.
