Far out ice cream is a delicious experience and Coolidge corner. They have seasonal ice creams that don't disappoint and it always feels fresh! Only downside is it can be expensive, but it's always worth it! Thank you for the great ice cream. The service is efficient since everyone orders themselves on an iPad and there is plenty of seating indoors and outdoors. read more

Came here with a kid with nut allergies and discovered that this place is actually nut free. The sister-in-law, an allergist, said she should recommend all her patients come here. We got a variety of flavors and ordering all the chaos was intuitive an easy. Flavors were fresh and not too sweet. It's an ice cream place, so people were pretty happy overall with the cheerful orange chairs, decorating the store and small groups getting ice cream. People were tolerant of the small children looking at their ice cream longingly from our table. It was still crowded at 9 PM on a Friday night, but that is to be expected. The serving staff was cheerful and didn't forget any orders. A great place to get an after dinner snack, really anytime during the day you feel like ice cream. read more

Their ice cream tastes like an extra creamy sorbet that's both refreshing and satisfying to eat at the same time. Loved how quickly I got my order. I got graham crackers mixed in but somehow got a piece of chocolate in there though. read more

Really enjoyed this little ice cream shop. I loved how they mixed the ice cream-- it makes it seem like it's soft serve because it's whipped in with the mix-ins that you add when you order. I got just plain vanilla with mango and it was very refreshing. read more

We got the low-fat vanilla frozen yogurt blendie with kookaberry (mix of raspberry, blueberry, blackberry), mango, and peach (July 2022 flavor of the month). A regular-sized blendie is about $7 so it isn't cheap. The flavor and texture of the milkshake was pretty good overall, but we were mainly underwhelmed by the lack of ice cream flavors. However, the staff were friendly and answered all of our questions! read more

Good ice cream! We got the "Raspberri Mudslide". It had chocolate ice cream with little pieces of raspberries and chocolate flakes mixed in, with a chocolate drizzle. Loved how you could crunch on the little pieces of raspberries and flakes. The ice cream was soft and smooth, kind of like a soft serve but a little more thick. Not the cheapest place but very tasty. You order at the touchscreen terminals in the back, btw. read more

I got the Mango/Pineapple with coconut flakes in a kiddie cup (and a waffle cone on top), per recommendation of my icecream server. Have you had Dole Whip at Disney Land? It was basically that, but infused with mango vanilla icecweam. SO GOOD. The coconut flakes were the cherry on top. I love that it didn't have the artificial sweetness you can sometimes taste at other icecream spots. And the waffle cone tasted so fresh. 10/10. I'm probably going here every weekend. read more

I usually prefer hard pack ice cream, but there's something so unique about the texture of this style. It's just so dang good. Follow the scent of the waffle cones ! Tried it the first time in store and had a Choco-banana flavor, it was my favorite. I just tried for a second time in stadium at a rugby match... maybe it was just the hot day, but it tasted even better ! Apparently, New Zealand has been hiding the worlds best ice cream. read more

One of my favorite ice cream spots. So refreshing. Only downside is they don't accept cash which I think is very weird for a place to do. Other than that, it is an awesome spot. read more

I had new Zealand style ice cream for the first time in Vancouver and always wondered why this concept isn't more prevalent - you get fresh delicious ice cream, fresh, frozen fruit, blend the two on demand and create a fruity ice cream that tastes like real fruit. Far out ice cream does just that! We tried kookaberry (a mixture of three berries) with chocolate as well as vanilla with strawberries along with vanilla and mango. All of them were delicious but the berry flavours were the winner! Docking one star as they should be slightly more generous with fruit (my strawberry blended with vanilla was just vanilla towards the end) but otherwise absolutely incredible and worth a try! read more

If you like mystery flavors, generally rude service, and horribly wasteful preparation this place is for you. Both my partners and my selection had at least two or more flavors added to our orders that we didn't ask for and her base was changed without notice. For us this was odd and left us disappointed and not finishing our orders. If you have allergies or sensitivities, this is not the place for you. Upon arrival the line to order was not discernible. Patrons began to stand around, an employee rudely directed everyone to the back of the store. While it may have been that the workers has a bad day, the patrons could have been directed in a more courteous manner. Lastly, the amount of food thrown out was tremendous. More prepared ice cream was thrown out per order than what was actually served. While this isn't related to the quality of the food or service, this practice seems unsustainable and without respect to the issues of hunger in the area. We will likely not be returning to this business. read more

What a great ice cream parlor! I never knew they did ice cream this way in New Zealand, but was pleasantly surprised by it! They just opened a couple of weeks ago in their first permanent location, and I had to give them a try. SO GOOD! I love ice cream and find a lot of places really similar. Far Out is a New Zealand version of ice cream and it's so much creamier than regular ice cream. Not like frozen yogurt, something different. I got vanilla with Kookaberry, and it was fantastic. So worth a try! I'll be back! Also, August the owner is a really cool dude! read more

Affogato was on point! We came in on a weekday around lunchtime and place was pretty empty. Only one guy working there but he was friendly and efficient. He wore gloves when scooping ice cream and changed them between using the register and preparing the orders. Not sure if it's odd that I notice these things but he follows great infection control measures. Hats off to the guy who was working that day! Will return to try other ice cream flavors. read more

What a novelty it is seeing your ice cream made. This ice cream was not too sweet and full of fruit flavor. You choose a chocolate or vanilla base (there are dairy free options), add your fruit, choose your vessel and then add toppings. It's a little pricy with the kiddie being $5 but it's just the right amount. Definitely worth a try. read more

I think the ice cream was fine - they specialize in taking fresh fruit, and then mixing it in with a self-serve that they make in-house. It's a simple concept, but it definitely works. I'm not sure ultimately that the ice cream blew me away by any means. Also, I requested the matcha topping, a powder - here, there simply wasn't enough flavor to justify the overage costs. read more

Went here over the weekend with my friends and we all got diff things. i think i chose the best flavor (raspberry) but even that was kinda mid. idk it was just expensive and mostly not that flavorful. blendies are not worth it don't let them convince you otherwise. also lowkey the kookaberry was too tart but if ur into that it could be good read more

A new, aesthetic ice cream shop on a corner of Harvard Ave and Fuller St. right next to Union Square Donuts. You can choose from a base flavor of vanilla or chocolate (dairy-free options available) and add in flavors such as strawberry, mango, blueberry, banana, raspberry, pineapple, kookaberry, or flavor of the month (november is cranberry). Their sizes are kiddie ($5), regular ($6), or large ($7), and you can add a waffle cone for an extra $1. We got vanilla mixed with mango & sprinkles and dairy-free vanilla mixed with kookaberry & sprinkles. After churning out the soft serve, the ice cream gets mixed with your fruit flavoring and swirled nicely into a cup/cone. The ice cream has a great texture that is soft and creamy. The mango was a subtle flavor but had nice small chunks of mango. The kookaberry was definitely a stronger berry flavor than mango. The only issue we noticed with our ice cream was at the bottom it wasn't mixed in well, while my cup had a mix of some chocolate at the bottom. They are also open early for coffee and other baked goods such as muffins. Overall, a nice ice cream shop to check out in Brookline. read more

I love their ice cream and the fact that they mix the topping in front of you. Their froyo is yummy

When this place is good, it's really good. The problem is the inconsistency. I've been here several times and ordered the same thing (except varying sizes) and each have been very different which is disappointing when you're spending $6-$7+ on an ice cream. Once when I ordered a kiddie it was as big as if not bigger than the regular (this is not a problem until you order a regular and don't get more than you would with a kiddie). Twice I ordered chocolate flakes, one time they came on top (which really isn't 0.75 cents worth because most of them fall off when the server hands it to you) another time it came without the topping and when I asked, the server said they were mixed in to the ice cream. When I brought my boyfriend we both ordered the exact same thing: vanilla with kookaberry. They were made by two different servers. Mine was a dark purple color with a strong berry flavor. His was a very light purple that tasted like vanilla with a hint of berry. My ice cream tasted great, but for this price it's disappointing when nothing is consistent and you aren't sure what you're going to get. read more

Really cool take on New Zealand ice cream. Cute decorative place and staff is super friendly. Audrey is THE BEST server I've had at Far Out, and likely the best one they'll ever have. She always makes conversation and provides some good advice on the best choice to make, especially with Far Out's wide variety of ice cream options. Honorable mentions include Grazi and Cherie. They also always have the best music playing and even when the place is packed it's still comfortable; it's not just a great place to get some fruity ice cream and hot chocolate, but also a nice place to hang out and chat. read more

had this at the timeout Boston market, the kookaberry mix which sounds like it is a fruit but it's actually just a mix of blueberry, raspberry, strawberry. you can blend chocolate with it, but the flavors just get muted and the ice cream base loses texture. so New Zealand style isn't for me. read more

I have wanted to try this spot since following it's pop-up in Fenway this summer and now it's permanent location in Brookline. It's New Zealand style ice cream, which from their description means it's hard-packed ice cream blended with frozen fruits to make a soft-serve like ice cream. I love their branding, they have a cute kiwi mascot, and I appreciate a new take on ice cream. I am generally less excited about simple fruit flavors, but they do offer a chocolate or vanilla base and there are toppings (granola, chocolate flakes, coconut, sprinkles and syrups: dark chocolate, caramel, and honey). I went with Kookaberry and vanilla which is a mixture of their berry flavors (strawberry, raspberry, and blueberry) with a dark chocolate syrup topping. I will say, the amount of syrup topping you get was, ummm, small. It's a serious problem when you order ice cream in a shop, there's just not enough surface area for the amount of toppings you deserve, but this was especially skimpy for a topping. The syrup itself was nice and added some needed punch to the ice cream as it is a very light flavor. To me, it was reminiscent of cool whip with berries, like it had that simple combo of dairy and fruit and sugar working, but it hits you softly, it doesn't knock your socks off. All in all, I would say it is a nice, different take on the frozen treat, but not one I would crave. I have to try some more of their flavors to get a better overall review, but based on this first visit I would give it out of five cones. Best paired with more toppings for sure and Flight of the Concords - Foux Du Fafa. Update: went a second time with E and L and this time I got chocolate mixed with mango with coconut flakes on top. I feel like not enough frozen mangoes were added to the mix as I could barely taste them, and the chocolate flavor is ok, but not something I'd rave about. I'd stick with the vanilla and berry flavors if you go here, but still not sold on the overall flavors. On the plus side E liked her pineapple and chocolate mix with caramel sauce, I thought it was meh, still couldn't taste the fruit much. read more
