I got some great instruction from them both, with helpful quizzing on what I had learned, and opportunities to put learning into practice. Both instructors were such a joy to sail with and learn from. Nick's broad experience and passion for teaching really shine through! Additionally, Lake Union Charters is one of the very few places that could accommodate my schedule for sailing lessons. I am a breastfeeding mama, so I can only be away from my little one for a few hours at a time, and most schools do their beginner's courses over a weekend of 8hr days. I also felt that my 2 hour/class 6 class beginner package was the perfect spacing to allow knowledge, book learning, and the experience I was accumulating to really soak in. These guys are awesome!

They were patient and supportive, explaining all of it. And they made it super fun for the kids. And we came out with a ton of fish! Broken down on the dock and the kids were able to feed the harbor seals the salmon bones. The second time with just our family and it was just Donovan and it was still awesome. We went salmon trolling and came out with a ton of Coho. I couldn't recommend Cut Plug enough. Their communication was great as was the experience. We're already looking forward to coming back next summer. And now we have a ton of salmon for winter!

The whole training was completed on our own boat. Captain Tony's training plan is well organized and thorough. Captain Tony is also incredibly knowledgeable and experienced, yet treats each person humbly and with a high level of respect. This allowed us to ask any question, and greatly enhanced our training. We hired Tony to deliver our 60' boat from Victoria, BC to Seattle and to train my wife and I to…read morecaptain the boat because it is significantly bigger and more complex than our current boat. I was very nervous about driving such a big boat but after the first couple hours with Tony, I was much more confident with controlling the boat, "holding station" and was even able to dock it myself. My wife then spent a few hours driving and maneuvering the boat and she was feeling very confident as well. Tony taught us to dock without leaving the boat, grabbing the cleats with the lines and putting turns on the cleats and bringing the lines back to the boat all without leaving the boat. This made both of us feel safer than stepping off the boat to tie the boat up and makes us feel like professionals. Dock hands even watch us and say "Wow!" when they see us do this and friends who have been boating for years tell us how easy we make it look. We spent many hours practicing on various docks, in various wind conditions, docking to port, to starboard, both bow-in and stern-in around Lake Union and Lake Washington. Using the Yacht Controller, I can single-hand the boat taking it in and out of our slip and docking thanks to Tony. I had so much fun, over several weeks I spent over 80 hours on the boat with Tony and my wife spent 30 hours captaining the boat and both of us are still surprised at how well we handle the boat and how confident we are in such a short amount of time. Tony taught us all the essentials about "rules of the road", navigating Puget Sound, VHF radio practice and etiquette, the boat's electronics, electrical and plumbing systems, anchoring, safety equipment, how to go through the Ballard Locks -- our first trip through was not the nerve-wracking experience we were expecting, but felt totally confident while watching other boats fumble with the procedure. Tony is a fount of knowledge of all things boating: techniques, equipment, boat types, boat history, etc. On a whim with our three kids on board one day, Tony taught them how to tie up fenders and do the three key knots so now they help us docking and in the Locks. I'd hire Tony to teach my kids to captain the boat, he'd be a much more patient teacher than I could be!

Ashley got us set up and went above and beyond to make it awesome! My only recommendation is to bring a hand towel to help with using your phone, and don't eat much before if you get seasick since the water can get choppy at times.

Argosy Lake Washington Blue Angels Seafair Cruise Friday July 2026…read more A great experience and fun event. A quick debrief on the logistics. We went on Friday for the airshow thinking it would be less crowded. There is parking underground and a short walk to the pier. You can grab some shade under a few umbrellas by the water. There are public restrooms very close. You queue up about a half an hour before boarding starts. We headed straight to the top deck of the Argosy Explorer in order to get the best viewing. The ship holds 500 but the captain said there were 180 on board that day. We found chairs on the port rail. We were idling at least 2 miles from show center but got a lot of low flyovers. No one really gets a good seat for the Seafair airshow. They're just too far out over the water. The crew was friendly and ship had lots of non-alcoholic drinks available too like cold brew coffee. Bathrooms are good size and there are several. The ship was absolutely immaculate. Getting off takes some time and it's warm inside. There's a nice breeze when the ship is underway but it's hot on top otherwise. A bit of an older crowd and everyone was real social and polite. Wear your SPF clothing, hat, and bring sunscreen. It's a bit rocky on top but got used to it after a bit.

There was a little bit of frustration but much of it did not have to do with Argosy. They have three departure times to tour around the lake. I planned to go to the earliest one but realized that I wouldn't make it so I hoped to make the second departure time. I didn't make it due to heavy construction as a result of weekend construction on I-5. That was really the most infuriating about making these times but again that has nothing to do with Argosy. I encountered a little bit more frustration once I got to Kirkland because the ticket office to buy tickets was closed. In between departure times the ticketing office closes and reopens a half an hour before the next departure time. That is a huge difference compared to the Argosy Cruise location in downtown Seattle where it is open during the day time hours. But I understand why and the reason is that there are a lot more cruise tours that leave from that location while the Kirkland location just has the one tour offered. The tour itself was very enjoyable! The tour guide that narrated during the tour was very good and knowledgeable about the area and the lake! We toured closest to the Bellevue side and looked at many of the lavish homes that were along the lake shore. Very beautiful homes! This area is probably the most primo of homes in the metro area as you can get! We also went by Bill and Melinda Gates' home which was a real highlight even though much of the house was obscured by trees. Lake Washington has a couple floating bridges and we went under the 520 floating bridge which was very cool to see! The views of Seattle, Bellevue and Mount Rainier were in top form as there was minimal haze the day I went. Tickets for this cruise are around the $36 range and the tour itself lasts about an hour and a half. There is a cocktail bar on the ship as well as snacks. It was a fun, relaxing trip after the frustration from the beginning of the outing and is enjoyable for summer tourists as well as locals... in fact the cruise I was on it seemed like that there were more locals than there were people from out of town! The tour guide popped this question early on. This location also does a Christmas cruise and that trip would be pretty since the areas around the lake really go all out on decorations apparently!

I have nothing but good things to say about this…read more I went on a public cruise on 2019 and had the best time, did a private in 2022 and had a blast again, and just went back a few weeks ago on another public. Start to finish, this is an iconic Seattle adventure. We met at the dock at MOHAI (booked paid parking ahead of time online which I do recommend). Got there a little early to hear the rules/directions, which they always make fun. Checking in was easy, and it doesn't really matter which order you get on in. I was one of the last people on board and felt like it had no bearing on the spot I took as people were moving around. There is only one bar and one bathroom, so I would recommend grabbing a drink before and using the restroom so that you can limit time spent in both lines. The bartender was wonderful. Quick but kind. I ordered a marg and she asked if I wanted a floater of tequila. Ordered a mimosa and she asked if I wanted a splash of guava. It was like she could read my mind. The staff goes all out with the theme. They kept us all safe, but made it fun with costumes, an exciting playlist, and by letting us squirt water at nearby hot tub boats. Book with your friends and have an amazing time. You will not regret going all out on your costume!
