took some girlfriends here for a girls night and we had a blast! the cider was delicious and it was such a cute little place! love it!

Well this was a little welcome surprise. Decided on a mid Sunday afternoon to take a ride up. Nice five. The site is? Really awesome. We enjoyed the site as well as the patch cider. You can bring some home as well. Growlers or cans. Will definitely go back read more

I can't come to Salem without having a drink at Far From the Tree. Their selection is excellent and the fact that they offer tasting flights helps indecisive drinkers like myself. Their cider isn't very sweet, but I appreciate that -- it allows their inventive flavors to shine through. The space inside is small and sparse, but the staff is warm and welcoming. Feel free to bring your dog (and your own food) as you drink inside or out on the patio. They even have cornhole! Growlers and canned ciders are available for purchase as you leave. They also have a walk-up window on the side of the building, if that's all you want. Can't wait to return! read more

This place was perfect! It's tucked away from the town center of Salem, so it's not over populated. Getting there is a little difficult if you rely on mass transit. It's off the beaten path a bit and you have to walk through some sketchy areas or a residential neighborhood, depending on the way you go. But once you're there, it's quite alright. The cider they have is all so delicious. Not one type was bad. I'm, personally, a dry cider drinker and theirs did not disappoint. The pricing is not terrible. Typical for a drink in Massachusetts. The atmosphere was perfect. Inside, it felt like a rustic tavern. It was clean but still had that vibe. The staff was friendly. Also they have food vendors come in and when I went, it was a pierogi restaurant. They were so good. It was a wonderful experience. A+ from me. read more

Far From The Tree Cider - Cideries Near Me - Salem, Massachusetts

Probably the best hard cider I've ever tried with some very unique tastes/styles! Definitely a reasonable price for the flight sampler (4 different ciders), and there are some board games available to play as well which was a fun surprise. My favorite ciders I tried were the Zuur and Cord! Zuur is a drier tasting cider with the aged barrel flavor coming through and adding some warmth, and Cord is on the sweeter side. Honestly though, I basically liked every cider I tried! Can't go wrong here. read more

We came here this past weekend, the weekend before Halloween. They were having an event here for a pop up donut place. We were excited for donuts and cider ! The event was from 3-7pm. We should up at 3:30pm and all the donuts were sold out! We were so disappointed. The line was around the block but after this revelation many people left. We still ended up waiting in line for about 45 minutes, which I thought was rather long. I liked that our ID's were checked when we walked in and were given bracelet's so we didn't need to get ID'd again. It was a very small place on the inside with a wind around bar some tables and some other seating. They also had seating outside as well, they even provided blankets too. We got 2 flights so we tasted every cider they had. I'm normally a beer person but I enjoyed that a cider house operates the same way. They also had some unique ciders, the Ectoplasm was a bright green color brewed especially for Halloween. I will definitely come back and want to try and come for a trivia or movie night in the future. read more

First things first, I'm a beer drinker and not a huge fan of ciders because of the sweetness of them. Of course, that being said, all I have to base an opinion on is Angry Orchard. But I digress. This place has great variety of ciders that cater to all taste buds. I absolutely love IPAs so the Nova and Supernova were right up my alley. They are delicious and have the perfect combination of hops and apple and are very mildly sweet. Surprise bonus: My wife and I just happened to stop in for a flight on adult coloring book night and free apple spiced donuts to celebrate their Apple of my Chai cider (which was awesome!), so make sure check their daily events. Their ciders are perfect for pairing for any food occasion. If I lived in Salem, I would frequent them often. read more

I lived in Salem for 4 years, and am super sad this opened up now that I've moved out of state. I don't like beer at all, but am crazy about ciders! I went with my fiance and his sister on the first night the taproom was open (last Wednesday) and LOVED IT! Full pours weren't available yet, but we each got a 5-cider tasting flight of 1 oz pours for $3, pretty good deal! Between the three of us, we tried all of the flavors, and can't complain about any. My least favorite was the Rind, only because I'm not a personal fan of dry ciders. The Patch (Strawberry Basil) was a big hit with us, as well as the Sprig (mint) and the Dust (clove, cinnamon, nutmeg, etc). We ended up taking home a growler each of those three flavors ($9 fill + $5 growler deposit). We also tried a Chai flavor, which tasted similar to the Dust, Sunny Daze (lemongrass, thyme, rosemary) which I didn't love as much as I wanted to but was still tasty, and the Cord, a maple oaked cider, MMMMMM. The cider maker (brewer? what do call someone who makes cider?) was also out front crushing what I can only assume was a literal ton of cherries in a press, and gave everyone sitting at the bar a free shot of the fresh-pressed cherry juice - so good! (He says this will become wine, not a cider, btw!) The space is cool, looks like a renovated garage, barrels stacked in the back, few tables and chairs out front while it's still nice enough out, and shirts/scarves/snifter glasses for sale too. I have commanded all my local friends to go here and drink ciders in my honor, and 100% encourage anyone to go here! Lucky for my wallet and liver I'm so far away. :( read more

I have enjoyed many ciders by Far From the Tree and I was excited to discover their tasting room in Salem. They do not take reservations but we walked in and were immediately seated in the tent (which was heated!!). All employees take the necessary precautions for COVID including masking up, contact tracing, and all tables are at least six feet apart. I loved Bog, a cranberry and herb cider, and my husband had a warm cider which he enjoyed as well. If you love cider, this place is a must visit. read more

The service was extremely disappointing, I had asked the bartender what they would recommend and what were the favorites on tap. I received a legitimate response of "I think it depends on the personal preference of the customer; whether or not you prefer dryer or sweeter drinks." Okay, valid, but not extremely helpful in guiding my experience of the tasting room or brewer. What bothered me the most was this bartender then proceeded to loudly complain about answering questions to another employee after I had jut inquired with him about the ciders. Just rude, unhelpful, and unwelcoming. After the bad service I struggled to enjoy the drinks I had been served and felt I could no long we ask questions about the product they make and serve. I had ordered a flight including the heritage, bog, cord, and tiki time. The heritage had a nice upfront crispness that ended with a lingering musky funk, the bog was nice and tart (what you would expect with a cranberry cider) however I found the herbs mildly overpowered the taste of cranberry, the cord was sweet and had a wonderful oak note, tiki time has a subtle almond and a powerful citrus with a borderline metallic taste. Overall I am extremely disappointed, I had hoped to find some ciders I liked. However, after the initial service I felt reluctant to interact with the passive aggressive and borderline hostile bartender. I did not pursue more than my initial choices which is a shame because I did enjoy the cord cider. A tasting bar is all about finding what you like and this environment definitely did not facilitate that expectation. read more

Used to hate cider..then I tried cider at FFTT. This is what cider is supposed to be, I.e. not saturated with sugar like a can of soda. They're always pumping out new kinds of cider along with their mainstays, and I've never tried one I didn't like! I make it a point now to pick up a 4pk of the latest seasonal they release. Pretty cool taproom experience too, love the vibe and the patio is sweet too. read more

Great little spot. Tasting room is casual and cozy. Ciders are great and a wonderful change of pace from whatever you usually drink. Too bad they don't serve any food, but it's still a fun little place to check out. read more

Cool place and dog friendly. We have visited a bunch of times in the early evenings during this extended beautiful fall weather. Have tried most of the offerings and all are either terrific or "interesting". We sat outside and enjoyed the sun, cider and quiet music. Met lots of folks and their pooches. Got to socialize our pup with other friendly doggies. All this happening while enjoying thirst quenching ciders. Life is good and Not Far from the Tree is a great addition to the enjoyment Highly recommended!! read more

Far From The Tree Cider - October 4th menu! - Cideries Near Me - Salem, Massachusetts

A hidden cidery a little bit away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Salem. Far from the Tree Cider is located in a more industrialized area with some small businesses and a pizza joint nearby. We were able to find street parking and opted to bring some pizza into the cider from a place down the street. While we ordered the pizza, the rest of the group grabbed a spot sadly not outside as their cider garden was pretty busy with groups while there was a small food stand at the cidery. We got a place inside and enjoyed a flight of their Halloween themed concoctions. We were blown away by one of the ciders that had edible glitter in them. The other ones didn't really wow us as there was another creation that had some hints of vegetables that we didn't really expect. The location looked bigger than it appears but the indoor seating was going for a dark theme as it was pretty dark with the cider garden being bright and another area where the restrooms were that had some board games. Glad we stopped by and checked the place out as the location is a nice break from how busy it was for the Halloween season in Salem. read more

This place holds a special place in our hearts, as we've been going here since they opened. Cozy vibe inside and the patio is a nice addition during the warmer months. Plus, dogs are welcome! Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. This is truly the best tasting cider around and it has ultimately changed my perspective on cider in general. They offer many unique flavors on tap and are consistently rotating in new ones. Some flavors are hit or miss but their staple ciders are so, so good. Since it's growing in popularity, there is sometimes a line to get in on the weekends and especially in October. We love this place and highly recommend it to anyone! read more

Friendly cider house in Salem! They have both indoor and outdoor seating, and dogs are allowed, which is a bonus. Flights of 4 are about $14 and a glass is around $7. They had some classic flavors as well some creative combinations. I really liked the Georgia peach tea cider. Some of the others I tried were the chai, watermelon, and supernova. A wide variety of flavors, so there's something for everyone! read more

Nice little hangout (emphasis on the little). There's board games, lots of cider, and often- special events (like donut or macaron vendors). If it gets too claustrophobic, the patio area outside is roomy and nice. Definitely try a flight- you're going to want more than one flavor! read more

Great cider, wonderful bar tender we truly enjoyed our experience! Id recommend trying the flight of ciders to really find one you enjoy!

Such a unique and amazing cider house. Both their frozen and regular flights are well worth trying. It's a great atmosphere and the food truck was a great addition- even providing a gluten free option the day we were there. They've done a great job with COVID precautions and we felt safe the entire time we were there. I've gone multiple times in the last 5 years and have never been disappointed - would definitely recommend Far From the Tree to anyone who enjoys cider! read more

The best cider around! I've only been two times but I feel right at home every time I visit. Chris the bartender is the best, he's so friendly and down to earth. They also have fun board games to play while you're there! The cider flavors are amazing, and it's super strong so you get your buzz on pretty soon after you start drinking. People usually go visit Salem to see all the spooky attractions, I go strictly for the cider now. \m/ read more

This place is absolutely fabulous! It has such a great vibe with the barrels out in the main area of the cidery. It is just the right level of light to give it a "cool" factor but it is still light enough to see where you are walking. It is $3 per sample and they have about 10 different taps open at any given time. The flavors are unique. For example they had a beet cider that did taste like beets and was purple. It was hard to finish the sample though because I can only take so much beet flavor at one sitting. I really enjoyed Bog which "tastes like Thanksgiving" as the bartender put it. This would be a really fun venue to rent out for a birthday party or retirement party for up to 50 people. .....Location: It is a 10 minute walk from Downtown Salem and a 15 minute walk from the Salem train station. It is an industrial district but don't be scared away. It is a gem in an otherwise working area of the city. I felt safe walking there alone in the early evening. .....Children and other special situations: Children are allowed in and can enjoy apple juice or a soda. They do not make non-alcoholic cider. Dogs are also allowed! Everything is ground level so it appears to be wheelchair accessible. They do not offer tours. .....Seating: It is a small place inside with about 15 seats at the bar and 10 seats next to the bar. There is plenty of standing room. Outdoor seating is available during warmer months. read more

It's not my typical practice to leave review for anything. In fact, I've only ever written one other. However, I find myself in that rare circumstance where I feel the need to warn others. If you find yourself searching for a crisp, delicious, refreshing hard apple cider...DO NOT try Ectopiasm (brewed by Far From the Tree). I don't believe in alcohol abuse, but after only one tiny sip - I dumped out the entire 4-pack. By far the absolute worst liquid that has ever passed my lips. read more

Far From The Tree Cider - Exceptional artwork, but the can contains a vile liquid wrongfully sold as a hard cider - Cideries Near Me - Salem, Massachusetts

I would describe their cider as a cider for non-cider connoisseur! I had high hopes for this cider but I was disappointed when I tasted it. It was completely lacking on taste. When I get a cider I expect a strong apple taste either sweet or tart and this was neither. It tasted like apple cider without the apple. IT IS GREAT IF YOU WANT TO GET DRUNK! However it is terrible if you enjoy the taste, and aroma of ciders. First off the color is all wrong it should be a golden-beige color but its a translucent yellow (kind of like lemonade). second it taste like heavily water down cider (keep in mind I had their original flavor I cant speak for the other types they had). This like many "Yankee" products lacks flavor! If you enjoy ciders I do not recommend, however that being said it is perfect for drinking if you intend to get drunk, it is light enough to keep the buzz going without making you feel lethargic and it is very easy to drink due to the lack of flavor. ALL THIS BEING SAID I WANT TO STRESS THAT THE EMPLOYEES HERE ARE FANTASTIC AND THE ENVIORMENT IS THE SAME, THEY HAVE A GREAT ATMOSPHERE AND SHOULD BE PROUD OF THAT! ALSO I AM CURIOUS HOW OTHERS FEEL, BUT PERSONALLY I THINK THAT MANY OF THE REVIEWS HERE ARE INFLATED. MOST YELP REVIEWS I CAME ACROSS ARE NOT SO SPECIFIC AND THEY ALL SEEM TO FOCUS ON THE ATMOSPHERE AND CONVIENCE BUT WHEN DESCRIBING THE ACTUAL CIDER THEMSELVES THEY ARE LACKING IN SUBSTANCE. (granteI i am a skeptical person so I will let y'all decide for yourself) read more

Let me point out that this review has nothing to do with their cider-this is only based off their atmosphere/staff. I went last week with a few friends and I was actually shocked when I saw a line to get in. The guy at the door said they were over capacity so we had to wait to get in-we probably waited 20-25 minutes before we could get in. When we got in, I expected it to be shoulder to shoulder, but there was hardly anyone in there. I thought it was strange that we had to wait so long and it wasn't even that busy, but the guy manning the door was cool so we chatted him up a bit. I don't drink cider so I was there just to hang out. They have a decent tap list (I think 8 at the time we were there). The food truck was late getting there, which was a bit of a bummer so we ended up going elsewhere to eat. Overall, it's a cool atmosphere inside and the outdoor patio is pretty nice. One of the major drawbacks however, they only have one bathroom. It took almost 20 minutes just to get to the bathroom because there was a huge line. Not really the place for me but if you like cider I would recommend it. read more

ATTN ALL CIDER LOVERS, this place is for you! If I was a local and could walk here, they would have to drag me out. The flavors that this place offers is great! My two favorites were the pineapple jalapeno and georgia. What's also cool about this place is that you can taste 6 ciders for only $12 and honestly, that's the smartest thing ever. The tasting cups are massive for "tastes" and cider already has such a high alcohol content (their's are roughly 8%) so you can get buzzed/drunk on $12 and it's awesome! (also, please drink responsibly) Can't wait to come back and refill my growler! read more

I can't say enough good things about this place. The staff is so knowledgeable and helpful. All of the ciders are unique and taste great. I highly recommend Nova when it's available and also Pink Boots! The place has a chill vibe and everyone is just hanging out and relaxing. Plenty of space out back, board games, and it's dog friendly which is a plus. Definitely one of my favorite places to go just to hang out and have some good drinks read more

Cidery near the heart of Salem, a must anytime we travel north. They always tend to have a variety of new ciders which is both their draw but also their downfall. Many of the weird flavors are delicious but there are many times a lot that fall short. When they first opened their ciders were more classic which is what I enjoy. Their prices have also rocketed over the years which is a bummer. Overall, a fun vibe and good drinks read more

This place is awesome! Huge cider selection of many different flavors. Dog friendly! Wonderful outdoor patio. Super knowledgeable bartenders. A must visit. Make sure you try the pickle cider and the chai cider. read more

The upside - The Cider is solid. They have 6 home grown ciders to choose from, and for cider it is fairly priced. Everyone will have their own favorite. Most are available in growlers. The place it self has garage doors that open to the outside is nice. They also allow dogs. Which is also a plus Staff is friendly. They don't really serve food, but encourage you to order food and have it delivered. The downside - Parking is rough. It is at the end of the street and the parking goes right on to a main drag, street parking says by permit so it is coin toss if you will find a place. Seating - Stupid. They have chairs and barrels as tables. The chairs are too high for the barrels so you end up hunched over. The barrels are not big enough if you get a tasting flight so you are mostly going to spend you time trying to make sure no one else knocks your flight over, or one of the dogs. They allow dogs (yes, I said that was a plus), but the music is so loud it was making some of the dogs jumpy. If you had the sounds of traffic, lots of strangers talking and encroaching in your personal space as well as, loud music I would be jumpy as well. Be a dog place or don't be a dog place. Lastly, You will notice the smell of stale cider when you walk in. Which is a put off to cider. Suggestions - Turn down the music, people like talking to each other, and like calm dogs. Get tables. Real tables that can hold flight comfortably. Wash the floors and equipment. to get rid of that smell. You are talking a few hundred bucks and this place would shine. Last - The room you have all the merch in could easily sit another 10 people. Merch can on a wall display with the stock in a backroom. You may also want to have some pre-filled growlers available on weekends at least to save your bartender's time. The place was good, it could be better, try it for yourself. read more

These guys are doing some great things in the cider world.,I feel as though they are bridging the gap between cider and craft beer. The only complaint I ever had with these guys was their original 500 ml format. They have recently started canning their ciders which I contributing to me going broke. Both nova and patch are hands down the best ciders I've ever had. They are also very involved with the town and local schools. Keep on doing what you do! I have to say that the events they have here are not worth going to. Lines lines and more lines. This is the second time I've attempted to go to one of these events here the last one being bambolina. It's quite obvious that all their friends and people on the in are in before anyone. That leaves people who were there Early sitting outside . Love these guys but this is definitely my last attempt at attending a special even here. Unless your friends with the owners or know someone I wouldn't recommend coming. read more

Waited in line outside to get in for almost an hour, which would normally knock at least one star off my review - but we had a great time!! First off, they make super good cider, nothing too sweet. We were very excited to hear that a hard cider house was opening in Salem! I have been multiple times now, and am never disappointed. The location is an old auto repair garage converted into a tasting room. There are barrels as you enter, and it lends to the overall feel of the cider house. There is a small bar area, as well as barrels with stools where you can sit while having your cider. There are always at least 6 ciders on tap, with various flavors ranging from dry to sweet. I prefer sweeter ciders and have really enjoyed the Apple of my Chai and Ciderkin. To try the various ciders, I suggest starting with a flight, where you get to try 6 different ciders. If you choose to order by the glass, the prices are very reasonable (around $5-6 per glass). This is a great spot to go with a group as there is a cider for everyone! BONUS is they allow dogs! That is extra points in my eyes! read more
