My advice to avoid disappointment for custom cakes: 1) order at least one week ahead (bigger lead time if more complicated) 2) know what you want your cake to look like and how big it should be. They don't really have templates or suggestions....so it's great if you are really specific about what the design should be. read more

Day before my son's birthday, a real MAJOR emergency occurred, and I needed a cake created. On a whim I called up asking if they could fit into their schedule a Fortnite Birthday cake. The baker was super nice and accepted the task. I had never been into the shop nor viewed any work so I was purchasing a 95 dollar cake on blind faith - it was a great decision! This bakery is packed with Italian pastries! Tiramisu, cannolis, biscotti, lobster tails & colorful mini cakes and then some. Stopped by on a weekday rnd 3pm--Bakery was fully stocked! Browsed for 5 minutes, everything looked delectable, I didn't know what I wanted. Ended up asking the guy behind the counter for the most popular cakes/pastries. Champagne cake, he said. Ordered that w/ a cannoli on the side. Paid, then stuffed my face when I got home. Both were delicious and not too sweet. Prices were reasonable, I think I paid 5 something for both? Not bad, not bad. Service could have been more friendlier & helpful (I didn't even get a 'hello' when I walked in and I was the only person there). But anywhoozies, would I come here again? Per recommendation from a friend I decided to check out Fantasy Cakes for my husband's grooms cake. After scrolling through pinterest I found a design and just needed someone to create it at a reasonable price. A little over a month before the event I stopped in and talked to Fernando. For the design I chose, the smallest cake he could make was for a two tier for 30 people for $130. Considering the positive reviews for this place and how much some of the Sacramento bakeries were charging I was sold! A week before the wedding I returned to Fantasy Cakes to put in the order. Fernando remembered me and honored the quote. I decided to get tiramisu for the top layer and raspberry for the bottom. After the initial order I communicated last minute details with Fernando through email. I was really impressed with the design and even everyone thought the cake tasted good. I thought the cake was alright. It was good but I would have prefered more filling and flavor inside. Fernando was really friendly and easy to work to with. I would order from Fantasy cakes again. Note: Make sure get the plastic pillars back from inside the cake. They do tell you that you need to return the pillars or you lose your $15 deposit. Unfortunately for me the restaurant sent me home with the wrong pieces. Woops! read more

OMG...what an awesome place. So I was in a bind for find a cake for my sister's 30th birthday ... Normally, the nicely decorated cakes needs 1 week ahead, so I had to look around yelp to find a place where I could find something yummy and beautiful cake. We had an 80s theme and I had an idea of what I wanted. Called Fantasy Cakes 2 days before the event, so the guy on the phone said if I went there that day , they could probably do something ... Unfortunately, something came up and was only able to go there the following morning. I talked with Fernando and he was GREAT to work with. Didn't need anything fancy, but was able to help me decide on a simple round cake with 2 chocolate cake layer and one vanilla layer, with a layer of chocolate mouse, and another layer of rasberry mouse. I wanted pac man theme (80s party) , so instead of black fondant (hello dye black lips and tongue would be good for halloween I bet though =), Fernando recommended chocolate ganache. I also ordered the 6 of individual tres leches in a chocolate bowl (soooo yummy) and the champagne cake...instead of cupcakes...they were both hits...Want to go try the fruit tart and other goodies next time (once I lose the pounds from all the cakes I ate this weekend...worth it!!!) The cookies were good too, but the artistry and flavors of the cake was on point. THE BEST CAKE in the area with beautiful representation. I won't go anywhere else to order cakes in my area. Even family members who normally don't eat cake, loved it...the best part my sister totally adored her cake and loved how it taste...YAY!!! Thank you Fernando for making my sister's 30th birthday rocking success. Great service, family owned restaurant. FALSE ADVERTISEMENT: I don't know where everyone is getting these nice custom cake images and showcasing them on Yelp, as though this business can make any cake imaginable, but my mom was trying to order a custom cake from this business for my baby shower and have it made to look like a classic car because I'm going to have a Hot August Nights Classic Car themed Baby Shower for my little boy. And the lady that she talked to said that they don't make custom cakes. My mom explained to her that on their Yelp page, they are able to make all sorts of custom cakes for people, and the lady didn't understand what she was talking about. So whomever is putting these fabulous looking custom made cakes on this Yelp page is creating false advertisement. THIS BUSINESS DOES NOT MAKE CUSTOM MADE CAKES TO ORDER. Said I was easy with them being creative but would prefer blue and silver colors instead of red and gold if they could. Said no problem. Paid $85. For this cake. It was beautiful. The top layer was chocolate and the bottom was red velvet. The chocolate was great, but, the red velvet was so dry it was inedible. I took back 3/4 of the bottom layer. The baker argued that it was fine. Then the 3 people who were working there left me alone and went in the back for awhile and then one came out and handed me $30. And said here. I told them I was willing to take another cake. I'm very disappointed because the pie and cheesecake are wonderful, but, I won't be back. They treated me like I was ripping them off. My husband's one and only request through the whole process was Tres Leches cake. We did one tres leches and one 4 tier vanilla and cream cake (for a surprise gender reveal we did at the ceremony). Love the decorated cakes and pastries at this little gem, and the prices are commensurate with the quality of items produced. HOWEVER, was really disappointed with my first order this past weekend. I am catering an 'English tea' baby shower in May, and the high quality pastries looked perfect for this theme, as well as allowing me to focus on the other food items for the party. However, I wanted some samples to make sure the mom-to-be and grandma approved. Planned this taster for our Easter bbq. Not an overwhelming number on the order: only 8 items (petit fours, mini eclairs, mini cannolis and 2 of their Easter-theme items) Unfortunately, I only received half the planned order, the rest were substituted with other items like cake slices! I was so disappointed! The clerk was apologetic, and gave me larger sizes (I.e., more expensive) on all the substituted items, but the inability to fill my pre-ordered, pre-paid items has now made me reluctant to take my business there for a special event where substitutions would not work.
