By no means am I qualified to rate coffee because my…read more"coffee" runs typically consists of coffee lattes with too much cream and way too much sugar. The Victorian Pantry is located in a small commercial strip that is easily missed if you are not a local or not already a loyal customer. My fiancé and I were visiting Granger during the holidays and The Victorian Pantry came up several times during conversation with glowing reviews so we thought to make a trip with a few friends before make the drive back to Chicago. The "cafe" itself is really tiny with 1 table available (to our surprise since we were meeting friends for coffee!). The business is mainly operating through online/worldwide orders of coffee beans/focaccia/other goodies. The owner decided to downsize from their original cafe that sat 100 guests to focus on their worldwide distribution of coffee. He was very kind and accommodating and gave us an extra stool so we can sit and chat while enjoying the delicious fresh brewed coffee! I tried the walnut roast blend with cream (no sugar) for about $3- ~ 16oz - 20 oz coffee! Not a bad deal at all. Again, I am not a coffee connoisseur, but the coffee was very smooth, nutty, and really intricate in flavor (delicious even without the sugar I'm used to having in order to mask the typical coffee taste!). You can buy fresh ground coffee (and I believe coffee beans) here at the store, or you can order online to have them ship it right to your door. Makes for a really nice gift for your coffee lover friends/family!

HIGHLY recommend. The owner is super friendly and chatted…read morewith us while some friends and I drank our coffee here. I don't drink a ton of coffee but I really enjoyed the walnut blend. My friends (who do drink a lot of coffee) had the white Christmas blend and said it was delicious. You'll never stumble upon this place unless you're looking for it, as it's now back hidden on princess way. Very small interior and not much of a 'restaurant' anymore. My friends bought some coffee to go and I know several other people who frequently purchase coffee and focaccia from here and they say it is always delicious. If you're in the area, definitely check this place out. If you're not, give them a look online. Either way, this place exceeded expectations.

Our second visit to Brasserie 23 was Valentine's Day brunch. We arrived on time for our reservation…read moreand were promptly seated. Our server Sean was attentive and helpful. The restaurant is clean and attractive. I had the Croque Madame, which was literally perfect, and better than those I had in Paris. The bread was perfectly toasted, the cheese perfectly melted, the egg perfectly cooked (not runny, not overly hard), the ham perfectly salted. Others in my group enjoyed the Short Ribs Benedict, Grand Bebe, and Tortilla de Patatas. (I'll note our first visit was the morning after a Notre Dame home game, and their stores were depleted: we could have anything on the menu as long as it was chicken. :) The chicken dishes we had that visit were very well done as well - moist and juicy on the inside and lovely on the outside. Obviously we came back, just not after a home game!)

Onion Soup Gratinee - $11 - Needed salt and wasn't very flavorful. 2/5 stars. Chorizo and Shrimp - $22 - This was easily the best dish. Cooked well, good flavor, and a decent portion (probably because the price is so high). 4/5 stars. Chicken and Leek Puff Pastry - $26 - The pastry was lacking. It was soggy, weird taste to it, and just not pleasant. The filling was also mediocre. Don't get this. 0/5 stars. L'Entrecote de Paris (Steak Frites) - $45 - The steak was chewy, the fries were over salted. For $45, this was not enough steak, whatsoever. Not like it was a good cut either. It's a rip off. 0/5 stars. Pan Roasted Duck Breast - $36 - My mom and I both ordered this, and we could combine both of our dishes to make ONE duck breast. Portion was horribly small. Never have I ever been given HALF a duck breast. The sauce wasn't good either and it was broken. 2/5 stars cause the rest of it was cooked fine. The birthday dessert was a scoop of ice cream and some stale cinnamon pastry thing. This was wildly bad. If the flavors were on point, the prices would be understandable. But the flavors were bad, the prices are expensive, and we waited a very long time to get our food. We couldn't get into a different restaurant that night (it was a Saturday night on move in weekend), but this one we could get into, and now we know why. Don't go here.
