WOW!!! This is everything you would think of a candy and dime store from the past, but it is available now at this location. There was almost every candy imaginable and a huge sugar-free selection! It was just wonderful to walk around and see all the selections from the present and memories from the past. Honestly, this amazing candy store is worth a side trip off Route 19 if you're passing through Elkhart County. Amazing array of old fashioned candies, bulk chocolates, bulk taffy, bulk Jelly Belly jellybeans, bulk giant jellybeans, etc. AND there are free samples. They also have stores in Shipshewana and Chesterton, IN, but I haven't been there. Friendly, helpful staff. I will probably order from them now that I'm back in California. read more

First of all, I need to admit, I went in there hungry. Not just sort of hungry, but gnaw my arm off hungry. I was killing time waiting for a friend at the doctors and decided to drop in (I couldn't find anywhere else to go within walking distance) I was blown away. Upon entering you get the immediate feel of being shot back in time to a simpler era where candy didn't make you afraid to become fat. The decor and ambiance radiates straight from the fifties without overdoing it with cheap replica junk. All around there are aisles of different types of candy ranging from salt water taffy to some incredibly flavorful jelly beans. There is also a fudge counter and fancy chocolate counter for those with a more sophisticated pallette. Me, being about as boring as white bread decided for the chocolate shaped like a rock. Not only was it novelty, it was quite tasty too! I also grabbed up some of the turtle fudge and some dark chocolate covered pretzels. The dark chocolate was intense and very fresh. Sometimes with those big bins of candy you can get some stale junk, but not here! I found no downside to this, and actually applaud the retailer for hiring such sweet staff. I asked to sample a bit of the fudge and the lady almost apologetically told me they were only allowed to give a small sample. I kind of chuckled and wondered if people went in there and demanded huge chunks to sample. Of course, I took her up on the little sample offer and was grateful. If you're passing through, stop in and support a local independent store. Way better than any crud you can buy from a convenience store! read more

I love this Wakarusa treasure trove of Candy! They even hung out in wait for me when we were having a candy emergency. Making spirit gifts for our cheer team, we needed pop rocks and there were none to be found in Nappanee. Who knew how hard it was to find pop rocks, but they have literally every flavor, and we're happy to help us out. Saved us a trip to a larger town in the pouring down rain. I think I died and went to heaven. The cutest candy shop. Owner was so kind. You name the candy she had it. The Jellybeans are larger than life itself. We sampled a few and yummy . She even had doggie treats. So we walked out with double dipped dark chocolate covered peanuts, dark chocolate covered raisins, massive bing cherries covered in red velvet chocolate, dark chocolate covered espresso beans and a few old time candy. If ever you stop or drive into Wakarusa, Indiana this is a must stop in. read more

I bought $30 of jumbo jelly beans here. The small bags made great gifts to several people. It was fun to walk around the old style candy shop and try a few flavors. I am a HUGE fan of their Jumbo Jelly Beans. Being over two hours away I order a lot online from them, but whenever the opportunity comes to stop in and visit I am never dissapointed. This old time candy shop has such a wide assortment of candy's from jelly beans, salt water taffy, fudge, and numerous old time candys that any kid or adult will have a hard time just walking out with one item. If you can't make it to Wakarusa or vist them at their other locations, then check them online and try those jelly beans! read more

Neat store all the different candies you grew up with. The staff not so great though I always felt very rushed by them when my family would come in and shop and finally quit coming in all together. To me service and product go hand in hand. read more

I stopped in because I had a 15 dollar gift card for them. Instead of taking 15 off my purchase, the manager had a new employee ring up just enough stuff to be 30 cents under the 15. Then had her ring the rest up and, in front of me, said you get no change back. So they kept 30 cents that wasn't theirs and didn't even take it off the other part of my purchase. Then I check my bank account later to find that they charged me for the whole amount and the non-gift card purchase. Once they fix this, I will never go back unless the management is fired and new ones are trained correctly. read more

My shopping experience here was nice until I asked for compensation for an expired product. After the bride and groom spent nearly $300 on candy for a wedding I was planning, I was told they'd receive an in-store credit for half the amount purchased (definitely should have been a full refund), and upon redeeming that credit, the Wakarusa Dime Store tried to cut the amount promised in half. After explaining the issue to the cashier, she argued, and told me that what I was promised didn't make any sense. Instead of spending a few moments to investigate the situation further, she made very rude comments, which made me and my guests feel extremely uncomfortable. The likelihood of my visiting that store again, is little to none. read more

I grew up with a Wakarusa address so The Dime Store is just a symbol of home for me. If you come in for a visit, you have to try the jumbo jelly beans. There are the basic flavors that you would expect, and some new unusual flavors that they reveal from time to time. I like their rock jellybeans. They look like polished marble stones, and are mostly spice flavors if I remember correctly. It always makes me think of "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" when Charlie Brown keeps getting rocks instead of candy. I think it would make a cute gift bag. They have lots of other nostalgic candy like candy cigarettes, neapolitan coconut candy, and wax bottles. If you remember it, there is a good chance they have it. One time they even had a section of "gross candies" including a sucker with an edible scorpion enclosed inside. They have something for everyone. read more

Live in Myrtle Beach South Carolina, and I visit my daughter in Indiana twice a year. She sent us the jelly beans for Christma one year and we were hooked. We order at least 2 or 3 times a year and we visit every time we visit my daughter. What an amazing store, it will bring you right back to your childhood and the corner penny candy store that was so popular when I was growung up. The have an amazing assortment of candies we proably all forgot about but would like to try one more time. This store is definetly worth a visit when you are in the area, and if you cant be in the area then do yourself and order online or give them a call, I guarntee you will never be disappointed. This is an amazing store but in the past 1yr or so, they need to store their jelly beans differently. I have been buying them for 10+ yrs. and have never encountered the way they are now.....I have had to return some for being "mushy" almost like they get wet or are stored too hot and the melt a little........I was just there this past Sunday and I wouldn't buy any of them....Just saying.........I hope they read these reviews and do something about it. It has been a great place to fill Easter baskets, Christmas stockings etc.........it won't keep me from going back for other things..... read more
