Wah wah wah! Another hidden gem!…read more The food here is so good and there's quite a few unique dishes!! Seafood is very fresh and tasty. The deep fried tofu is bomb! Super silky and smooth, without a chewy skin. The salted egg yolk shrimps are coated evenly and the shells are edible! The mantis prawns are very juicy and fresh. I also loved the clams soup and the pork chops! Must haves: salted egg yolk shrimps, deep fried tofu, and mantis prawns. Prices are also very fair. Probably even cheaper than many other places that aren't as good! I saw a few michelin signs on the walls, but I'm not sure if it's referring to them or the alcohol they're promoting. But I do think their food is good enough to be Michelin!! It is quite a busy place so be sure to book a reservation!

Also known as "Hing Gung" (慶功), it literally means to celebrate and to reward the hard work the crew put into the show. Much like sik siu, since the eaters are of high exertion, the food would most naturally be as trashy as can be~ Healthy eaters might want to hit the return button now as the foods may be despicably fattening. Deep fried is almost the golden rule for every trashy food, even in Hong Kong; the famous shrimp toast is actually minced shrimp smeared on a piece of bread and deep fried to crunchy perfection; and you got it, the piece of bread is soaked with grease. To make it even more damaging, mayonnaise is served on the side for you to dip the toast in. Damaging as it seems, but it is also very gratifying and is often the dish that is cleared the soonest. Hing Gung is often an event of the nights and there aren't a lot of joint cater to this batch of customers at this time of the day. I still remember walking into this shop with the waiter asking us to wait outside the shop at 11 in the evening, while they were trying hard to rearrange the tables to sit the 15 of us down. For a restaurant that is still crowded towards midnight, you know they must have done something right.

The reason is listed below. The food was good but pricing is deceptive. What was ordered to the point of finger selection on the menu became something else when the bill came. Their service was attentive but to only a certain point such as tea servings or order more food. The ambiance is nice. Atypical good quality restaurant. Our bill was almost $7000hkd. A few dishes where we ordered small but the waitress decided upon herself that a larger plate is more sufficient for a bigger party. Yes, we had 10 adults but that is not a reason to change it without informing us. There were lots of leftovers and we decided not to finish it. The waitress knew we were not local and perhaps used this opportunity to scam us because we were going to pay for it and we will most likely not come back to eat here again. There was no such thing as language barrier since food was ordered in Mandarin as the waitress spoke Mandarin & Cantonese. I would give them 1 star for trying to cheat us but honestly, 2 stars is as far as I can go just because their food was delicious.

I do love their dim sum menu with so many chiu shan 潮汕 style food. Regret not trying the almond pig stomach soup. That said, their prices are high even for dim sum. Parking in the mall can be validated.

Here's another flavor of dim sum in Hong Kong: Dim sum with a breathtaking harbor view!…read more To enjoy a great view of Hong Kong, you'll need to be on the Kowloon side, and Tsim Tsa Tsui East (TST East) is among one of a few areas that offer a spectacular view of the harbor as well as the skyline of the island. So if this is your first time visiting HK, this would be an ideal place to check out a local dim sum favorite as well as one of the most amazing harbor views in the World - something that you cannot find in North America. Ho Choi, literally translated as good luck, has every characteristic of an old-school traditional and superstitious Chinese name. It's more of a local gem rather than a tourist trap - such as those Chinese restaurants located in the Four Seasons or Ritz Carlton. Here, you'll enjoy tasty dim sums while rubbing elbows with local folks and a staff that speaks limited but enough English. Prices are moderate and reasonable for a restaurant that is at a somewhat upscale area. The basic staples such as har gow, siu mai, pork spare ribs, etc. were really good, albeit not outstanding. However, one dish was absolutely amazing and memorable: FRIED BEAN CURD ROLL IN TOMATO & EGG SOUP. The bean curd wrap was thin and was fried to a crispy perfection. The filling was soft, moist, and yummy. The rolls were dipped in a thick and delicious tomato & eggs soup which was close to heavenly even by Hong Kong's high standard. I will definitely order this dish again the next time I'm there.

On top of that, it's Dim Sum with a view; a beautiful one of the HK skyline. Situated at the top of the Empire Centre, this banquet hall serves as an ideal spot for all occasions big and small. The prices are reasonable; somewhere between 20-38HKD for each dish. Want a better deal? Shoot for the early bird special before 10:30am for 15 HKD or less select dishes. Plus, the food is fresher and the crowd rush is non existent. While I haven't seen a ton of tourists here (hello locals!), it should be noted there are no carts here. It's all a la carte style and be assured there is a limited English menu available. The selection is pretty stellar and more importantly, the food is tasty. The special shrimp rice noodle (鮮蝦腸粉) is beautifully presented, in bite size snippets served with whole shrimps in each fold. Same bodes for the har gau shrimp dumplings (蝦餃), which may seem a bit minuscule, but pack a decent amount of flavor. Kudos to their dumpling soup ((灌湯餃) for not being overly salty, and sporting a super silky dumpling everyone can get behind. Regular siu mai (燒賣) is readily available, but I would vote for any extra dollars for the super version in the emerald mushroom version (翡翠北菇燒賣). I admit to not being a fan of Malay sponge cake (馬拉糕) but I rather appreciate Ho Choi's soft and squishy version. Turns out I'm just not a fan of dry, less fluffy versions. Their haam seoi gok (鹹水角) is one of the better versions I've sampled, at least before noon. Anytime after that, it becomes like the rest of the subpar set from Dim Sum land. I really enjoyed their sticky rice (糯米飯), which is abundant in Chinese sausage (臘腸), which will ultimately win me over any day. No dim sum experience is complete without egg tarts (蛋撻) but I reckon the lao sa bao (流沙包) is the ultimate sweet treat. Living up to its "flowing sand" name, it is a steamed, fluffy, bao of magic runny sweet egg custard. When done well, it is a highlight as much as any, and one that I look forward to each time I'm at Ho Choi in TST. I haven't been around to try their dinner as of yet, but if it's anything like their Dim Sum hour, I'm sure to be in for a treat.

First of all, you are required to spend a minimum of HK$500 (about USD$64) per person. Secondly, it's recommended to make reservations beforehand. They are located in Four Seasons and the place is already packed once they are opened. Lastly, their dim sum menu is available on weekdays only. Baked pineapple bun with barbecue pork and pine nuts: This was like a combination of the pineapple bun nai wong bao and char siu bao. The pineapple bun is good with a sweet crunch top. The char siu was good and tender. There was a good balance between sweet and savory. Baked whole abalone puff with diced chicken: Elevated version of the traditional taro puff. The puff was soft and crispy. The diced chicken portion was small stuffed into the puff. It didn't have much flavor. The abalone on top was alright. Appearance wise, this was pretty cool to look at. Steamed lobster and scallop dumpling: Elevated version of the shumai. The lobster on top tasted like prawns not lobster. The taste was ok but it was fresh. This dish only serves 1 piece per order. Steamed shrimp dumplings with bamboo shoots: Pretty much like a typical shrimp dumpling at any other dim sum restaurant. Nothing special. Xiao Long Bao: The Xiao long bao was good. My favorite out of the others we tried here. The broth was hot and flavorful. The meat was very good and savory. Chilled mango and sago cream with pomelo: The dessert was refreshing. It has a light mango taste but no pomelo flavor. There were some tiny pieces of pomelo but didn't have any taste. It just adds texture. Overall, we had to order multiple of the same dim sum since we didn't reach the minimum of HK$500 per person. We were pretty full and were pretty much forced to get a couple desserts to reach the minimum. The minimum requirement is honestly ridiculous especially when we are dining with 3 people. Their dim sum was alright, nothing memorable. They use expensive ingredients but I didn't think it was anything special or mind blowing. The service was alright. They weren't attentive and were kind of stand-off ish when we requested for a seat by the window instead of the middle of the restaurant. I can see why they lost a Michelin star. If you want to try a 3 Michelin star and a Black Pearl recipient Chinese foods with dim sum, I recommend the Jade Dragon in Macau. An hour boat ride from HK. Their dim sum selection was very good with excellent service and beautiful interior and presentation.

My recommendations: lobster noodles (yee meen) with cheese, razor clams with vermicelli/garlic and geoduck sashimi. We came in a big party so we were able to order 6 different types of seafood. Of the 6, everything was really good but the top 3 were phenomenal. The lobster noodles with cheese was my favorite. You can't find this in America and my friend specifically chose this restaurant for this dish. The cheese that they used went perfectly with the lobster and noodles. Almost made the noodles like a carbonara. I have never had razor clams before but it's just a long clam. The meat was soft and chewy. Who doesn't like fresh garlic and noodles? The sauce that was on the clam and noodles was delicious. Lastly the geoduck was used for sashimi and soup. The geoduck was sliced thinly and dipped with wasabi soy sauce. It was super fresh and you can't just stop at once piece. The soup that was prepared with the head had vegetables and tofu. It was rich and really sweet. The one thing I wanted to try in Asia was the mantis shrimp. They may look big, but it hardly has any meat. The flavor was spot on though. Service was good and they came around to change our plates frequently. Our bill was 6444 HKD for 7 dishes.

Cooked just right, and a fresh live fish was steam chinese style with scallions and soy sauce, fish steamed perfectly. They have indoor and outdoor seating. The service is very kind and accommodating, but I'm going to have to bring down my 4 star review into a 3 star review. One of my dining pet peeves is to watch waiters and waitresses getting screamed at by a condescending manager and that's exactly what happened. He was screaming at a waitress over something so minor to the point where he couldn't hear us trying to get his attention to order something (or maybe he completely ignored us). When he wasn't yelling at them, he was talking in a very condescending manner to them. I know I shouldn't expect too much when it comes to service in Hong Kong, but for a high class place that caters a lot to westerners, I expected a much classier display of service.
