Duck A L'orange

The drinks and food were great! The duck was delicious. Succulent and yummy with the sauce. I would definitely come back for it.

Excellent service and wonderful tasting food. The restaurant is very unique - looks like an old house. Inside was clean and the spacing between tables provided ample room for my wife and I. We celebrated our 31st anniversary. They made up the table quickly with streamers and close to the fireplace. We ordered the clam chowder and French onion soup. Both came out piping hot and were very tasty. They also gave us a basket of bread and butter and a small plate of kalamata olives. I had the NY steak and my wife had the Capri chicken. The steak was cooked on a fire grill in the middle of the restaurant. It came out perfectly cooked medium rare, with veggies. The chicken was also very tasty. They surprised us with a complementary desert. Total = $148 (including tip). This place is a bit pricy but certainly worth visiting at least once.

Ravioli and puttanesca - Delicious

Came in Saturday night during car week and was completely blown away by the staff, service and food! We originally planned to dine elsewhere but weren't impressed by the service and Fandango was kind enough to fit us in short notice on a very busy weekend! We started with wine and EXCELLENT martinis with blue cheese stuffed olives, salads and entrees. The staff was very friendly and efficient and the GM even came to our table to make sure we were enjoying our dinner. The ambiance was super rustic and charming and I will definitely be back! 10/10!

The restaurant looks very rundown from outside but once inside, it's a nice place. The food is good and the service is exceptional. The best part is that they have Soufflé and that's hard to find in Monterey area.

We chose this restaurant because it had a good rating and enough reviews. It presents itself as somewhat pretentious. Inside, the atmosphere and coziness look nice. The service itself is organized well. But for this kind of pretentious presentation, the plates and silverware were not polished, with residue from dried water. I ordered duck medium-well, they brought it medium rare. The manager clearly noticed my surprise and offered to cook it more. I think that was a bad idea. The duck tasted as if it had been reheated on the second day. On top of that, it was completely drowned in a sauce that ruined the flavor. The side dish was obviously frozen, packaged vegetables and mashed potatoes with cheese. All of this together created a horrible composition. And even separately, everything tasted bad. My wife simply refused to say or write anything about the osso buco she ordered. What I liked: the bread was good, the olives were good, the orange in the duck they still managed to ruin. The service was good and friendly. What I didn't like: unpolished silverware with hard-water marks. Bottled beer only. I would fire the person who created the menu. The duck was simply terrible both individually and overall. And to the one who cooked it, I would suggest making burritos -- that would probably turn out better. Overall, good marketing, a pretty wrapper, and bad content. They spent money on marketing but didn't have enough left for a good chef and a kitchen team. After that, we went to the brewery next door and had an excellent pizza from a real Italian oven, with good -- not bottled -- beer. All at a price three times cheaper.

Delicious food, great service, perfect quaint ambiance! We got the goat cheese salad and Caesar salad to start. Our server was so skilled and remembering the specials and wine list! It was so impressive! For our entree's, we got short ribs with potatoes al gratin and the scallop special. I didn't want to pasta that came with the dish but the server recommended the saffron rice and veggies as a replacement. It still went perfectly. For dessert...we couldn't resist the crème brûlée. Would highly recommend if you want a fancy date night out or celebrating a milestone in your life.

Best souflee ever!!!

We came here for my sister's 60th birthday. The service was wonderful and they celebrated the bday with streamers on the table. We did bring our own sparkling wine (corkage fee $45). The tapas were delicious, the escargot brought us back to Paris, the sand dabs were ok, the goat cheese salad was wonderful!!! We ended the night with the best dessert. Their Grand Marnier soufflé was exquisite. It was light, fluffy, and perfectly not too sweet. Jorge was amazing. The whole restaurant honored my sister's birthday with a lovely port at the end of dinner and a lovely "on the house" soufflé. We would go again. The ambience was old-world French / Italian. A lovely place. Excited to go back again.

Had dinner there last night. Fandango has been a favorite spot of mine for more than two decades. Can't go wrong with the paella, salmon, chicken, sand dabs, or calamari. All are fabulous! While the food is excellent enough to draw me back, the service and style of Fandango are a perfect complement to the food.

Delightful cozy restaurant with exquisite food and a very gracious staff. The atmosphere has an old world European feeling.

Good service. Food was ok. Good company made it better. Menu was old school, which seems to be the norm in Monterey.

We are kids friendly and we will prepare anything for the them.

I felt bad about sending them back and was apologetic when we brought it to the owner's attention. He was responsive, explained that it was the natural smell of the sea, and kindly showed us the invoice proving they were purchased that day. He also offered to check with the vendor. While we appreciated his efforts, the smell was off-putting enough that we decided to order something else. We tried the lamb lollipop special instead. For $42, the portion was quite small--just five thin, uneven pieces--and the lamb was overcooked and overly salty. When we gently mentioned this to our server, she responded with an eye roll, which was disappointing. We genuinely dislike leaving negative feedback, especially for small independent restaurants, but the overall experience left us quite disappointed. Hoping they can improve these items, as the restaurant has potential.

Upon entry, we were heartily greeted by the owner and staff. There were only a couple tables left on the main floor as there was a large party of fifteen people seated in most of the main dining area. It was extremely loud with voices reverberating because of the gregarious group. The owner invited us upstairs to see if a high-bar table would be suitable. The table was quite small even though it overlooked the entire first level, so we declined as another table by the front windows had become available. The Charcuterie + Cheese board was a wonderful start to the evening. It consisted of prosciutto di parma, sopressata, duck prosciutto, bella vitano, triple cream brie, chèvre, almonds, and fig jam served with sliced grilled sourdough. Delish. We enjoyed their Sauteed Rock Cod entrée which consisted of pan-fried cod served with potato puree, artichokes + capers in a Meyer lemon brown butter sauce. The portion was of moderate size, and the dish was excellently prepared and plated. In addition, we had the Drunken Skillet Seared Octopus, which was a nice portion of octopus in a preserved black-bean honey sauce, along with Chef Jerry's seasoning. I recommend this starter as an appetizer or as a main entrée for a light appetite. All was quite delicious. This is an intimate venue for wonderfully prepared meal. The atmosphere of the restaurant is a little lacking which could account for the bad acoustic issue. The service is outstanding as the staff was attentive and watchful without interrupting the customer's dining experience. A serious negative would be that the restrooms are not located on the main dining level, and could pose a problem for patrons who need assistance. Food 4.9 Atmosphere 3.7 Service 4.9

The staff were easy to work with in setting up the event and more than accommodating with the several dietary restrictions that we brought up given the size of the party that would be stopping by (roughly 80 or so). Our server was very nice and attentive, but there was some unevenness in the courses due to a disconnect between what he described and what the kitchen actually delivered. For example, I mentioned that my partner has an aversion to cilantro, and in one course the kitchen actually replaced it entirely with chives, which was amazing. However, when our server came by, he mentioned they had put the cilantro on the side. In another dish, a full cilantro stalk came right on top of the plate. Not a huge deal since we could just pick it off, but it was a sign of inconsistency in service. We also ordered the cod dish, and when we mentioned we were avoiding undercooked proteins, our server said he would make sure it was cooked through, which confused me a bit since I believe cod is always fully cooked through. On to the food itself, we started with the plum lacquered duck kefta, which came out on two cinnamon sticks used as the skewers. These were absolutely fantastic, with the yogurt sauce acting as the perfect foil for the expertly seasoned duck and the cinnamon stick adding a subtle spice. The Moss Landing black cod was likewise delicious, with the cod cooked to a buttery and flaky texture, and it was paired with a sumptuous vanilla bean butter sauce over a bed of pepper and green bean panzanella that was out of this world. My only complaint was that for the steep price, the portion was quite small. The curried lamb shoulder was exceptional as well. It arrived with a striking presentation, encased in a three-quarter dome puff pastry shell filled with shredded lamb shoulder meat. It came with a side of some kind of fruit compote or chutney, though we were not given a detailed description of most dishes. This portion felt appropriate for the price and was the favorite of the night. We mentioned we were celebrating our wedding anniversary, and while we were not expecting anything over the top, we were a bit disappointed when we saw them bring out a dessert with a candle for what I assume was a birthday celebration at another table. For a restaurant of this caliber and at this price point, I have always experienced at least some sort of gesture, even if just a small card or message at the table. Overall, we had a pleasant evening, but it is not somewhere we would return to based on the uneven service and the mismatch between price and portions.

Montrio is a restaurant struggling with the same dilemma everyone wanting to open a fine-dining…read morespot in a touristy area does. The closer you are to ground zero-Fisherman's Wharf in SF or Pikes Market, Seattle-the harder it is to remain profitable. Geographically, the density of Taco Bells and tee shirt shops increases. So, kudos to Montrio for trying to run an up-scale business as close as they are to the Wharf. Unfortunately, they fall well short of the mark. We arrive early and the place was nearly empty. To start with, we ordered the Porcini Pomme Frites ($14) as an appetizer. The fries came out limp and starchy-raw in the center. I sent them back. The replacement or refry of the original batch came back a little past GBD. They pushed the limit on the far side of doneness. And they tasted exactly and precisely like In-And-Out's awful fires. The match was amazing. For reasons known only to the Snyder family, and in spite of endless terrible reviews from food critics, I-A-O refuses to double-cook their fries. So they come out tasteless with an off-putting consistency. Not qualities anyone should try and emulate, IMHO. Now, ostrich and octopus, for example, are famously difficult to cook correctly. But fries are the polar opposite easy to do well. To screw them up twice in a slow kitchen at a $14 price point is inexcusable. I knew we were in for a rocky ride. I ordered the scallops. Yes, you guessed correctly, the kitchen screwed them up big time too. They had a light seer and were stone-cold raw in the center. The creamed corn side was excellent BTW, but not forty nine dollars good. Why didn't I send them back? Well, first, I knew they couldn't cook fries or scallops. Why would their second effort on the second course hold out any promise. Secondly, I refuse to be that guy who sends every course back, even when it should be. At a certain point my philosophy is shut up, learn your lesson, and share an honest review so that other might avoid the sad experience. My wife had the short ribs and enjoyed them. I thought they were dry, which is hard to achieve with fatty short ribs. Her mashed potatoes were okay, though under-seasoned. But if she was happy, so was I.
