This place seems to be Chinese-run catering to what I assume must to be Chinese-style Japanese food. Nothing is Japanese. Th staff and all the sushi chefs spoke Chinese. The fish was badly cut and poor quality -- the fish was anything but delicate and served in a ugly, slabs. The tempura had several enormous SLABS of extremely old fried potato. There's no excuse for using old tough vegetables. You look for good fish, good rice and good presentation when it comes to Japanese food. This place has none. Of the fancy Sushi's I have been to this one is probably the nicest. When we came in we were seated immediately. We were going to the Flagler auditorium (walking distance) for a show and wanted to eat beforehand. You start off with the mushroom and onion soup which is very light but a good start. The salad seamed to be sitting for some time and had water in the bottom. This I find common with this chain. You will also get and included holiday roll which is tempura krab and Japanese mayonnaise. I find the entire chain overdoes the mayo. I usually get the sashimi sampler 16 pieces. It was fresh and served very nice. My wife ordered the Californian and salmon rolls and my daughter had an Alaskan roll. Both very nice but hard to mess any of this up.. We were in and out in record time and had plenty of time to walk over to the auditorium for the show. read more

Yet another sushi place where I would never ever ever order sushi. BUT I give Fancy Sushi major, major, major props for being open all day on Christmas when even fast food places were closed. We were starving when we walked in... convinced we would be eating at ::shivers:: Denny's... and then Yelp led us here. They have hibachi on the menu but no grills... usually this is a bad sign, but the veggie hibachi tasted like it had been cooked fresh (I could actually hear them cook it in the kitchen... it's too bad they don't have a big window or something). One of the worst sushi experiences. First off, this places sign is broken and has been for a while, which makes it seem like they don't care. Secondly, the menu was beyond disgusting - it was dirty and sticky and made me want to leave right away. We got a few rolls and a house salad. The salad was fine but the dressing wasn't anything special. The sashimi fish tasted off which pretty much is how you can judge a such place. Fantastic service!!! Shortly after being seated, we were given waters and miso soup. Quickly our waiter took our drink orders and returned promptly to take our food order. While we were waiting for our food, our waiter delivered a small sushi sample that was very delicious. Fancy Sushi is currently the best sushi spot in the Palm Coast/Daytona Beach area. It's probably the best quality sushi I have had in Florida. I recommend ordering fresh raw salmon or yellowtail sushi rolls. The chefs put a large abundance of sashimi in the rolls and just a thin layer of rice. Any other sushi place you go to in the area will put 70% rice, 30% deep fried cream cheese in their rolls -- not Fancy Sushi. The lunch special at $8.99 gives you 2 rolls, soup, salad and a free appetizer, making it the most competitively priced sushi spot as well. read more

Truly the most terrible sushi experience ever and I say this with all seriousness. The tempura was soggy and caked so thick you couldn't decipher what vegetable you were eating. The chicken yakitori was hard and dry. The tekka maki, tuna sushi, was not fresh but sour. Asked the waiter what ingredients are in sauce served with the noodles and he replied "I don't know, you go ask the Chef." Our side of brown rice arrived at the end of meal with the bill. The decor is your typical Asian themed restaurant, with a Maneki Neko at the front door, as tradition dictates. The open room is small, and inviting with a sushi bar, tables, and booths. Being an Americanized joint, there is a large screen TV above the bar. Very distracting. We were given a lovely mushroom noodle soup upon sitting with our menus. The menu was typical for rolls, sushi, sashimi, and other entrees. Daily specials are on the wall and looked to be excellent values. This being a mid-afternoon lunch we split the Sushi Sashimi Combo ($27) which is 6 sashimi, 6 sushi, tuna roll, california roll, and salad. The salad was obviously prepared and dressed many hours previously. It only contained lettuce and congealed peanut dressing. I don't knock off stars for salads because Sushi joints are for soups, sushi, and sashimi, nothing else. Also included as an appetizer is their signature holiday roll which is tempura krab and japanese mayonnaise. Tasty, but too much mayo. Served warm. The sashimi (salmon and tuna) was fresh, and served at the correct temperature. Not ice cold like some psuedo-sushi chefs do. The sashimi was sliced properly at 10mm and served on a bed of shredded daikon. The sushi (shrimp, salmon, tuna, yellowtail, escolar, white fish) was fresh and was served on proper sushi rice. The fish was completing covering the rice. No skimping on fish in this joint. My only quibble is that they couldn't tell me what the "white fish" was. Bad mark for the chef on this one. The rolls (californian and tuna) were decent and fresh. Although I'm not a fan of 'fake' sushi, they were tasty. The seaweed wraps were a bit chewy and not cripsy like a fresh wrap. For drinks we had traditional hot green tea. The tea was served in single cups and not in a serving pot. It was bland which leads me to believe that it was cheap bagged green tea. Very disappointing. So...only 3 stars. -1 star for the tea. The cornerstone of any Japanese restaurant is their tea. It should be served in a pot and presented properly. -1 star for service. After delivering our food we never saw them again until they presented us with the check. What if I wanted more tea? What if I wanted to order something else (which I did)? For Palm Coast, it's decent sushi and sashimi, just don't expect world class service or tea. read more

It's very rare my husband chooses to eat Japanese food. This evening he chose a new spot in Palm Coast close to where we just relocated. I'll give him credit, this place is amazing. It was funny to watch him taste the soup and know that it wasn't too salty but wasn't planned it was just right. The ginger salad wasn't overpowering, it was delightful with a creamy like dressing...spot on. He chose the shrimp hibachi and finished the entire thing... It's very rare he finishes the entire meal as Japanese food is not his first choice. We also ordered three sushi rolls to share. When the sushi came out I was blown away by the presentation on the plate(pics included) I also feel like the portions were a lot bigger than what you normally get at any other place. We had the sweetest server! She made us laugh quite a bit & did a great job! We cannot wait to return!
