This is a standard nail salon that offers quality manicures at a moderate price. Do not expect the superb personal service and wonderful ambiance of a pricier place, but those things are useless anyway if the mani/pedi is not going to be outstanding. -- Ambiance - 3 stars While I was there it was quiet enough to hear the music playing softly in the background, with none of the loud foreign language exchanges among the employees or obnoxiously loud music as if they want to start up a party. This was partly because I went on a Friday morning and it wasn't full--apparently it gets pretty busy on the weekends. There isn't much of a 'mood', it's a brightly lit standard nail salon that happened to be peaceful. Equipment is not luxurious by any means, but is comfy and will get the job done just fine. -- Cleanliness - 3 stars I'm big on hygiene, and Fancy Nails was ok. Their chairs/floors had polish stains and didn't look brand new, but it was otherwise clean. The nail polish racks seemed a bit sticky but I think the problem was that the rack's height was a little short for the taller polishes. A few of the polishes looked like they hadn't been used in a long long time. It didn't look like they sterilize their tools for each customer--I didn't exactly love that--but at least they did not pull them out of dirty old dingy looking containers. -- Service - 3.5 stars They do not have a receptionist and I found myself feeling a tad bit awkward when I came in huffing and puffing from running late and nobody said a word to me at first. I was also seated after a 20 minute-ish wait, which I thought was odd given that I did make an appointment (granted, I was late by 15 minutes). Maybe their schedules aren't perfectly organized; the girl I made the appointment with was working on another customer for 20 minutes after I arrived. But once I sat down they started to warm up to me; perhaps it helped that the person who recommended the salon and specific technician to me is one of their super-regulars. -- Quality - 4 stars Most importantly, they offer great value--quality is good for the price you pay. The cuticle trim wasn't excellent, but I liked the designs on my nails (I always get designs, and end up comparing designs from different technicians at different salons) and the colors were very evenly applied. If I remember correctly the spa manicure - which consists of nail trim/filing, cuticle trim, lotion massage, and color - only costs $10. Add extra for French tips and/or designs. The polish color range is decent; most of them are the more common colors with some token oddities (e.g. neon green). So their collection is not that extensive and they don't seem to stock up on the newest colors, but you should be fine unless you need super crazy shades. read more

This place sucked. I'm not too hard to please, and as long as the end result looked decent, I would've been happy. I went here for a pedicure before an event, and she cut my foot so bad I kept my feet covered for a couple of weeks. Red flag 1: The chair I sat at had a couple of empty drink bottles sitting on the arm rest/tray. I thought that was gross and unprofessional, but everybody slips up sometimes. I was also pretty grossed out that there was a long hair next to them. 2: The woman doing my nails kept going back and forth between my feet and another woman's hands without changing gloves. I didn't care that it was taking longer - I had a book and I wasn't in a rush. But that's wayy unprofessional and unsanitary. If I was the other customer, and someone was touching a stranger's feet and then my hands, I would've been pretty disgusted. 3: She ripped the cuticle on my big toe so badly that it started bleeding all the way across. She didn't react or apologize, just kept working. (She also continued going back to the other woman's manicure AFTER I was bleeding - um, bloodborne pathogens, anyone?) Anyway, I was left with a gross looking scab all the way across my cuticle. Luckily it didn't get infected. It just looked really nasty and I kept my feet covered while it healed - which totally defeated the purpose of getting a pedicure! Oh, and when I paid (I think it was $18?) I gave her cash. She smiled and said thank you - until she realized I had given her exact change. She repeated, "18?" and I said, "Yes." Um, yeahhhh... you're not getting a tip for that, sorry. read more

I made a 9 o'clock appointment with Nancy, who came highly recommended from a few friends, to get my nails done for my friend's wedding. Though I showed up at 8:55, the girls working didn't show up until around 9:15. I was actually about to leave since I had so much to do before the wedding, but I'm very glad I stayed. I got a french tip gel manicure, and Nancy was very willing to put up with my requests (I like the white tip to be a little thicker - almost so that my nails look fake, but without that hassle). She asked if it was okay if another lady worked on my french tip pedicure (not gel), and between them I was out in about 45 minutes, with the gel curing and all. And the best part! Everything together costs $45, which is super reasonable compared to other salons. And my manicure and pedicure lasted almost three weeks, and I only had to take them off because my nails had grown so much, not because the polish was peeling or cracking. read more

The last two times my girlfriend went here, they didn't listen to what she asked for. The first time, she had acrylics put on and they made them so much shorter than she asked for and they wouldn't let her correct them as they were shaping them. This last time, she had her acrylics taken off and instead of properly soaking them first, they spend 5 minutes soaking them then started grinding it all off. She told them not to take off any of her natural nail but they did anyway. Whenever she would try to pull her hands back to stop them, they would grab them back and keep going. Now she has nails that are too thin to do anything with until the whole nail grows back. Needless to say, she's never going back here again. read more

Puts Seattle nail salons to absolute shame! Polish was very neat and manicure easily lasted 2-3 weeks without chipping. :) They did try to upsell me to the new polish, but were receptive when I declined. I have been coming to this nail salon for a few years on and off because it was ok but lately I've had the worst service and gel manicures. I get a manicure every 3 weeks so it adds up to a lot of money. I expect at the very least for a decent job. The last two times I've been here I have been so disappointed. I got cut the first time by the lady and I still tipped because I figured it was a one time thing. The last time the lady was on her phone the whole time, wasn't paying attention and literally didn't even paint my entire nail. Nancy, you are quite fancy :] Walked in with a friend....the price was $14, but I added on a $3 tip because she was just so nice and made sure I liked it every step of the way. The other places I've been to, they pressure you into adding on other services too often and they cost $20 or more for the same services you can get here. Sure, they try a sales pitch here too, but once you say no, it's a no... She cleaned my nails, trimmed the cuticles, filed and clipped, buffed, massaged my hands and arms [which was super relaxing], etc. The entire process was done with a smile on both of our faces. Another great job on my gel nails on my hands and regular pedicure on my toes. Nancy does a great job. This place gets busy because they are one of the only decent nail places around. I have looked and looked. Always disappointed. Sometimes a place is good the first time or even the second as well....but never consistently. I have never had a bad experience at Fancy Nails. It was my first time here and don't know if I'll ever go back. It was the only place I could find that was open/ didn't give me a long time estimate. For the price it wasn't all that great. They did a good job dealing with my cuticles, but they didn't paint my full nail. I have nails that grow super quick and since they didn't paint everything it already looks like there's a week's worth of growth which means this manicure will last me less time then usual. I can normally get away with 3 weeks but now it'll be only two. Also, I had picked out a lighter color but it wasn't opaque enough so I was already bummed out by it. I called on a Monday to make a Friday apt for me and the bride.. Mani/Pedi with Nancy for the bride and same for me and I'll take whoever. Walk in @ 11 am for our apt on Friday and they say "Ok, pick a color". Color is right!! They have the worst selection I have EVER seen. So we decide on Gel instead. As we wait about 15 minutes I can tell everyone is in the middle of a service. I ask Nancy one more time and she says just a few minutes.. I explain to her that my friend is getting married tomorrow and that we are on a tight schedule and how much longer REALLY??? We made an apt for 11am and that our whole day is planned around this apt taking about 1-1 1/2.. She says ok come back @ 1 PM... REALLY???!!!! The only nice thing I have to say is that the ladies are nice and did a decent job! My friend who had suggested this place went a week later and had the same thing happen to her.. Awful! Do not go here. I have been here several times and the last two times have been the worst. As soon as they're close to done with you, they leave you to put your sandals back on as soon as someone else comes in. Then the last time I went, they put me in a chair fast considering there were 3 other people in there, but failed to come back to me for another 15 minutes. I felt horrible walking in on these ladies (and one gentleman) 20 minutes before they closed on a Sunday, but I was desperate! They're the only nail salon I know of open past 5 on a Sunday! Anyway, when I walked in I was super apologetic to the lady (Kathy) that greeted me. She replied with "don't worry about it, we close only when there are no more customers!" I thought that was awesome of her to say! I didn't want them to do a less than stellar job b/c I was "that girl" coming in 20 minutes before they closed. Well Kathy went on to do my fill (I previously had pink and white but wanted to change it up). She did an AMAZING job!! I showed her a picture from Pinterest and her job looked even better!! She needs to take pictures of her work and submit them to magazines or something because it was ridiculously good. She was fast too!! My sister brought our mom and I to this spot about a month ago. She swore it was a fab place and decent price. I love my pedi's and religiously go every 2-3 weeks. Even though this place is nothing too special, I have to say, the one thing they have going for them is that they do not skimp out on the massage part of there service. Which, to me is heaven. Most places only give you a foot massage to rub in the lotion but this place gives you one for at least 5 mins which is worth going, in my opinion.
