Unless you have a car, it is likely that you have to endure the B43 bus...Oh B43 bus.. you and your 20 - 200 minute delays. Sweet Hampshire Mall memories. Basically the mall has a cinema ($8.95 Student ticket- show your ID), JC Penney, Bath & Body Works, Target, Trader Joe's, Video game stores, Craft stores. Not too far away, there's a Walmart, Whole Foods, Marshalls and Pet store close by. The mall has really evolved since I last attended my undergraduate years at UMass. There is now a cool arcade/bowling alley and escape room adventure company within the mall, and it really brings life to the place. Make sure you keep an eye for the student rush sales (usually the first week of the Fall semester) where stores participate in pretty good sales (think 50-80% off certain items, $5 beanbags, $1 notebooks etc).

We stopped in during a weekday afternoon to buy a few Disc Golf discs, and it was nice to see that they had a large selection to choose from. As we were passing through the store we also looked at their clothing sections and found some great deals on sports apparel. To top off our experience we cashed out with a really polite employee who held a conversation with us and asked us about the local Disc Golf course. This is not the first time we have had this experience here, and it is nice to see that this store prides themselves on customer service!

WATCH THE PRICE THEY CHARGE YOU AT THE REGISTER. I had to walk back to do multiple price checks…read moremyself after the listed price on the shelf was lower than what they tried to charge me in after scanning the barcode (in fact, most products DID NOT have a listed price where I was looking). Last price check I did one of the employees was taking the sign away. Idk if it was to tell the person at the register or not but when I said something about it they said it was "store policy" to charge the listed price and not the inflated price in the computer.... Yeah pumpkin its also consumer law in MA. Staff was pretty sycophantic or checked out any time you tried to talk to them. Thanks I guess though, wound up saving hundreds just by getting so frustrated at the ordeal. Turns out, Holyoke Sporting Goods had the main sporting stuff I needed at a fraction at the price.

I recently went to TJ Maxx, which is an easy way to browse the world's market of goods locally…read more For those of you uninitiated, TJ Maxx finds products that didn't find a buyer in all sorts of international and national markets, buys them for a better price, and sells them. I've found obscure Italian-purse-designer brand purses for sale at a more local version of their price, and on a clearance markdown or two. However, my most recent trip was to find shiny bags as I am a big fan. The TJ Maxx was wide open under the humble awning as the entrance to the store. The aisles were neatly organized, and chock full of a variety in each department they stocked. To my best recollection, from clockwise to the left of the entrance to the right with the cashier line, I found Luggage, Purses, Cosmetics, Jewelery, Perfumes, Shoes. After I found some shiny bags (ha!), the rest were something like: Bedding, Cookwares, Bakeware, Silverware, Spices, Stationery; maybe Shaving and Technology? Followed by Pet Toys and Goods and other sections. I found Children's Books, and additional Candies outside the spice section up front. If you've never been to a TJ Maxx or Marshalls, visiting this TJ Maxx beside Stop and Shop is a wonderful example of the brand and the type of store. I've found many products in the past that have lasted me years, like colanders, soap with dispensers, salad spinners, art supplies, and so on. TJX also donates to local communities, like Head Start programs. For a local brand, they deserve worldwide recognition for their work. I, also, deserve a shiny bag budget.

The young woman working here was attentive, friendly, and helpful. She did not pressure me into buying anything, yet she let me know that she was there to help if I needed it. She was a good listener and was able to show me several boot options that fit my criteria. There was another woman shopping in the store, and the employee did a great job of helping both of us simultaneously without getting overwhelmed or neglecting either customer. After I chose a pair of boots, she offered to take them outside and spray them down with extra waterproofing sealant, free of charge. I am very impressed with the level of care given to customers at this store. I ended up with a pair of Rieker boots that I am extremely happy with. Warm, insulated, breathable, comfortable, waterproof, sturdy. I know these boots will hold up for several winters. I could not recommend this store enough. *Note: to those who have given this store bad reviews due to poor service during a sidewalk sale, I would offer the idea that the Northampton sidewalk sales are extremely overcrowded and chaotic. I cannot imagine any store offering their normal level of customer service during one of these madhouse shopping events. You are much better off visiting this store during a normal, quiet business day.
