Went for a little outing with my mom, we split a burger and asked for very crisp fries. The burger was cooked perfectly but the main star were those fries. Whomever the fry cook is there, they need a raise and to be acknowledged. Usually when you ask for crisp you barely get anything more than an extra 30 seconds in the fryer but these were serenaded in that oil to a crisp perfection. They were not dripping in grease either. As for the ribs, 2 ribs, one had like 2 bites, and the other 1 barely had a bite on it. So small? Then the brisket on a piece of bread with 4 small pieces of brisket. Fwe had a group of 9. Called a couple days in advance to let them know. Was told they dont normally take reservations because its usually not an issue. They did appreciate the heads up. Got there at the designated time and every worker seemed confused as to what to do with us..larger groups not a problem...? When trying to order, the waitress stood at one end of the table and those of us on the far end had to yell our orders to be heard. I've never been to a restaurant where the wait staff does not move around a table that has large groups. Food was sub par. Will not go back. read more

Visited on today February 22. The catfish fingers are fantastic. Our server was pleasant and friendly. Ambiance is cold, sterile and seems out of character for a BBQ shack. More like a dentist office. Now my disappointment, the rack of ribs we were served were old, dry and burnt, horrible nasty tough dried out trash. I guess this pit crew and kitchen staff were laughing and goofing off too much or they really don't think people coming in know what old reheated crap looks like. Been to more than 50 bbq shacks, Georgia, north Carolina, south Carolina, Tennessee Florida Missouri, Oklahoma and the king of bbq Texas 8yrs at Fort hood. You guys serve trash. Never again. First thing when we'd walk in the door was the smell of the smoke from the barbecue & got the senses waking up. The old time music immediately put a smile on our faces. And then the old rustic antiques hanging from the ceiling, covering the walls Put your mind back in time. It was exciting before we even got seated. Famous Dave's in Canal Park was our go to every visit to Duluth. Our kids would be perfectly content sitting in their seats just looking at the 360' of unique objects every where they turned their heads. The decor, smokey smells, old music & the hustle & bustle is what we'd all talk about while waiting for our meal, during our meal & days after. There was nothing memorable about the experience. It has been for ever since I've had Famous Dave's! So happy to see this new location right next to Sam's Club! Service was very good! The restaurant was very clean, and open feeling with all the lovely tall windows letting in the sunshine. It was lunch time, my husband had the burnt ends sandwich with potato salad. covid19 update. This location does a great job to maintain safety of your dining pleasure. The place is still a great place to have BBQ! We ordered the family platter which never disappoints! Feed 4 of us with at least one leftover meal. The ribs were good, but were a bit cooler than I prefer. Not a fan of their corn on the cob. Probably because we are spoiled in MN by the fresh stuff. "Water logged" taste to the corn! We found out we could have substituted for something else. Should have took extra corn bread, which is moist NOT dry. We met another couple for lunch on 11/19/2023, our first time at the new location. Our greeter friendly and polite, as was our waitress. The food was very good and plentiful and came reasonably fast. The down side was the lack of any sun shades, as we tried to find seating without the low sun blasting us in the face. The other gripe we had was the overall noise in the restaurant. We tried to carry on a conversation and was very difficult. There is no sound deadening in the building at all. Nothing but stone, concrete and wood. Our friend had a hearing aid and found the noisy atmosphere very annoying, and quite difficult to converse. We would probably go back, but not unless some of these things were corrected. read more

We ordered food for pick-up. We got the all American feast which comes to about $85 in the hermantown, MN location. We are not exactly "wealthy people," so this was really a treat for us. When we arrived home, we noticed the bone-in ribs were missing from our order. After calling, they asked if I wanted to speak to a manager, and I told them that I didn't have to, but that I would like the food that I paid for. They agreed and said to come back, so I did. Once I arrived back at the restaurant, one of the owners was very rude and tried to call me a liar. He said that he has been working back on the line all night and there was no way that slipped by him. I didn't know what to say. All I knew was that our bone in ribs were definitely not with our order. He then came back, threw ribs across the counter, and said, "here, but I know you're not telling the truth, and we need your information to make sure you can't pull this again." He then walked away from me while I was still trying to have a conversation with him. I asked the girls working in the front how he can talk to people like that, and they shrugged and said, "he's one of the owners." My girlfriend then tried calling, and he wouldn't even talk on the phone with her. But my girlfriend made 100% sure with a different employee on the phone that our order was made and paid for correctly. She then told them to look on their line cuz there should be an order of ribs floating around. They have everything go through a computer and those ribs were definitely put through and not delivered so they had to have popped up at some point. Obviously the overzealous, dishonest, arrogant, and money hungry owner would never admit it, but we hope that those ribs were left rotting on the line for him to notice at some point. This guy didn't care who was around or anything. He acted like a spoiled selfish child who is definitely used to always having his way. Is customer service even a thing anymore?? The girl's working there didn't seem surprised at all... Like this was normal treatment of customers... like, I would understand if I had done this before and was trying it again, but this is the first time I've ever done this at any decent priced restaurant because usually mistakes like this don't happen when you spend that kind of money... read more

I've eaten here both dine in and take out and in both scenarios they are effective and efficient and the food is always the same; delicious. A neat little place that is fairly different than other Famous Dave's restaurants. The layout is more open and offers a unique almost club like feel to the place. My family stopped in after walking through the Bentleyville Christmas Light Festival. Everywhere was packed but we were able to get a seat with only minimal waiting time. The food here was pretty standard to what you can get at other FD locations. As always, I made sure to order a plate of rib tips. They are by far some of the best I have had, tender and juicy and full of yummy BBQ flavor. read more

I absolutely love Famous Dave's. I've been to the original Hayward, WI location, and a few locations around Minneapolis, and the Duluth location is on par with any of them. I visited famous Dave's with my boyfriend earlier this evening. I asked no pink for the burger that I ordered. Unfortunately, the burger was about 30% cooked in the middle. I didn't want to make a big fuss about it due to the fact that they were extremely busy, but I kindly told our waiter (I didn't get his name, sadly) that my burger was pink and I asked if the pattie to be reheated. The waiter said he told the kitchen no pink and he will just have the cooks make me a new plate. I got a whole new plate about 15 minutes later and the waiter told me that he will take off the cost of the meal and asked if I would like to have some to eat or if I would a box... we got the check and the waiter had taken off $18 even though my meal was about $14. My boyfriend put his card in the bill folder, they waiter picked it up.. the waiter came back and told that he had taken more off the bill ($8) for me being so understanding and nice about the situation. The service was amazing and I'm appreciative of the waiter we had. Unfortunately, when I got home to eat the second burger, it was also super pink, which I didn't mind too much because I could just heat it up. Although, my point being I wasn't too satisfied with the kitchen. Five star rating for the service. Three for the kitchen. Came here for lunch. Ordered the garden salad, dave's sampler platter and fresh water catfish fried. The catfish and the sweet and sour sauce was the highlight of the meal. The fish was lightly coated with seasoned batter; texture and seasoning was good. The chicken wings in the platter could had been a little more crispy. The chicken tender was dry. The rip trips were good, moist and good smoke ring. The have a good variety of sauces, Which I like. Although true BBQ should only focus on the meat instead of sauces, but this is not Memphis, Texas, Kansas, and the Carolinas, so it will have to do. My boyfriend and I ordered combo platters and were STUFFED by the end of it! We also tried the 3 different bbq sauces available on our table. Now, the pork was amazing, like A LOT AMAZING. Chain or not, it was good, especially when you consider that Duluth has nothing else like this, so I'm not taking this one for granted. Mac and Cheese was really delicious also, though quite spicy, but still very creamy and delicious. The fries are to die for. They are more like wedges, and lightly salted. I had a field day with this one. Plus they give you quite a few. The cornbread muffin was my only disappointment, which sucks because its one of my favorite items to get. It was rather dry. Oh well. There was a ton of food, which like I said, we were very full very fast - and stuffed by the end of it. All that food (large portions) for only $12/pp - not too shabby! I had eaten at Famous Daves as a kid and remember the food being really good. With new dietary restrictions (gluten free), I had decided to give it try as an adult. I had always heard good things about Famous Daves and their labeling of gluten free, and had assumed they would be a 'gluten free friendly' restaurant. Nope! We came into the Duluth location during a cold and early lunchtime and were sat immediately. Our server had some knowledge of gluten free items, and gave us their allergens book to look over. As we found out none of the BBQ meat was gluten free. They all had some form of gluten in the molasses and the (apparently) soy sauce used. The only appetizing entree we could find was a BBQ chicken, which was only decent (not to die for like the ribs would have been). (Note: I've also reviewed the Minnetonka location and it was dismal) We went here on a whim and it was really good! The portions were big, the food was hot. My kids loved running around the restaurant looking for different bottles of sauces they could try. They are connected onto a big arcade, fun zone, so my kids also loved bumming around while we waited. The service was good. I've been to several Dave's locations in the past and this was the best one! Please continue to give generous portions and let the kids be kids and we'll be back. I reviewed the Minnetonka Location and your location is far superior to that one. Maybe send your manager down there and show them a few tricks on how to produce a fun easy going atmosphere with great food. Bravo to your team there. read more

Visited last night for my nieces birthday. Was not super hungry so I tried their wild rice soup & just got a side salad. The soup was fantastic. And I was shocked at the salad- usually side salads are pretty small & maybe have a cucumber or 2. This salad had eggs, and bacon. Cucumbers, tomatoes. It was awesome! Super cheap and a great portion. I know it's weird to get excited about a salad but when you actually get your moneys worth- it's something to celebrate. Have had their bbq before and it's great. Very disappointed in this establishment. I came to Duluth with my family to have a nice weekend getaway. When we got to famous Dave's we were told it would be a 20 minute wait and we could wait at the side bench. As we were waiting, in the kitchen multiple staff were eating with gloves on and one in particular was touching her nose and the male started rubbing the sweat of his face. At no time did they change their gloves before they took customers food out. This happened multiple times and I told my husband we are not eating here. I went to the hostess to let her know she could take our name off the list and said it's not a great look to have your staff doing that especially during covid. There response was "we double glove so it's not an issue" I told her at no time did they change their gloves because I watched. The 3 employees at the hostess desk continued to say it is fine and they saw her change gloves. I have no idea how they saw that if they weren't even looking or near the servers, but ok. Really concerns me that the answer to that is they "double glove" and no care for cross contamination especially during a pandemic. read more
