Both were a-maz-ing. The sandwiches were made fresh, stayed great until we got to the later in the day, and were portioned well. I kind of want to go back to get another few sandwiches, but sadly I've left Scotland and am back in the states (and my routine work-life). It was about 9 am and already quite busy, it seemed like everybody who was on the way to Isle of Skye or Glencoe was stopping here. They are known for good sandwiches so we got 2 different ones to try. Both sandwiches came with a purple color coleslaw that was good but we found all the coleslaw in Scotland had too much mayo for our preference. Pastrami with Swiss sandwich: Proper pastrami that is a nice pink with black crust from the nitrates and smoking process. Plenty of cheese and meat but it was very large, had to save half for later or I wouldn't have been able to drive. Turkey sandwich: with pickles and white cheddar, they had some kind of mayo spread that was good. This was surprisingly tasty and we ended up eating more than the kids. If you go down the alley on the side you can eat at a little lake in the back. There's a hill with Worden steps you can climb and from the top you can see a small, old cemetery. They had a wide assortment of country loaves for sale as well!

First: we had to wait 15 minutes, but were given a buzzer for when our table was ready--per the hostess, we were able to go as far as the grocery store in town. We didn't mind the wait, as it gave us time to pop into the tourist shop and buy postcards and stamps. The wait was worth it! I had a coffee, one of the best coffees I've ever had, and we sat enjoying the view of the mountains and the view of the pastries, piled in tantalizing piles on the far end of the shop. We each had a roll, mine w fried egg, bacon, and hash brown; hubby the same with sausage instead of bacon. The food was hot, fresh, and the ingredients locally sourced, and tasted so damn good. Every dish that made its way to neighboring tables looked ridiculously good too, and I kept saying I want to try that, and that, and that!! On our way out we bought a chocolate raspberry brownie and a macadamia bar, both items are rich and flavorful, and large enough that hubby and I have been enjoying them all day!! My wife and I came here after an exhausting weekend away with teenagers... we were a bit sceptic as to whether or not there was decent food in Aviemore. We were told that we would need to get there as early as possible because of the wait... and we were like, this is an outdoor shop's cafe, it couldn't be that good. Well it is THAT good. As I said, you will more than likely have to wait (got this advice from a local)... and you could end up waiting for at least half an hour as we did. We finally got seated and were impressed with the menu thinking that the food couldn't be as good as it seems on the menu. But it was THAT good. I had a red bean burger (if I'm correct) that was SOOO tasty. They make the burgers here (not frozen like veggie burgers at other places). It may have easily been one of the best veggie burgers I've had in Scotland. It came with chips, which I wish I could've had more of but wouldn't have had the room for. To top it off, I had a pot of Eteaket tea with Red Velvet cake. So... a lot of places in Scotland try to do a great Red Velvet cake and end up with an OK red velvet cake. Mountain Cafe did an excellent red velvet. Both moist and dense. Sweet and SOOO filling. In the end, my wife had to roll me out the door and down the stair sideways. I was super full with excellent food. It may have cost a bit more than I would've normally paid for lunch, drink and a cake... but seriously I didn't care. Why isn't Aviemore closer?

Saturdays are really busy so was glad I decided last minute to book a table. However the most popular order seemed to be the high tea for two, which at £5 per person is amazing! The atmosphere is lovely, with a mix of couple, familes and quite a few grannies being treated to tea and cakes by their grandkids. The decor is nothing fancy, but the setting and welcoming staff easily makes up for it There is fabulous selection of Suki teas and homemade baking. Soups of the day this week were tomato with basil and potato and leek. Last wee I tried the curried butternut squash which was amazing! The setting is lovely and the food is well worth the 15min drive from Dennistoun. There is a garden centre and lovely views onto the loch so you could easily spend a few hours over a coffee, chatting and escaping city life. **WARNING** This is a lengthy review and you WILL be hungry after reading!…read more Just outside Perth and a short detour from the A9 lies Tibbermore (I know, cute right!), a typical 'blink and you'll miss it' kinda place, but really, just don't blink cos this place is awesome! It really does have it all - fresh fruit and vegetables all leafy and colourful, a gin lovers corner, wonderful cheese and meats deli, health foods section including a variety a GF flours, breads and oatcakes (try their own oatcakes, completely different from the brand that sounds like Talkers but sooo much tastier!), tray upon tray of freshly laid eggs...I could go on but you get the idea! And that's just the food section! They also have a glorious gift section where I could've easily spent a small fortune. Everything from kitchen gadgets to picnic baskets, kiddie gifts to Emma Bridgewater pottery and everything in between. I spotted a few local producers too which I loved as I always like to see locals businesses supporting each other. Then there's the café/restaurant which has a few outdoor tables but plenty inside if they're taken; the day I visited it was glorious but somehow we got lucky and got a table outside (my shoulders can prove that #scottishtan!...). The menu has lots of tasty options incorporating as much of their own produce as possible - I opted for the Homemade Chicken Liver pate while my parents both had the Smoked Ayrshire Ham & Gloagburn Curried Banana Chutney sandwich (Dad went hunting for the ham to buy later he was that impressed!). I chose one of their remaining items: a small cake that had a touch of lemon and a raspberry on top of a creamy frosting. It was delicious--a welcomed treat when I felt in need of a pick me up. I did not have a chance to test their food so am unable to comment. Do note however: This is a VERY small place. Cozy to be sure, but small and by no means for larger groups. It is ideal for the soloist and duos to come in and have a fairly quick coffee, cake, and food (I assume). This is NOT a place to study. There are no comfortable lounge chairs, chairs or tables. The seating is composed of stools that reside at two bars. It's kind of reminding me of Italian style cafes where you drink your espresso at the bar, across from the barista who just served it to you (though in Rome, they don't offer you stools even!). Henry's offers a great selection or hot and cold beverages and also has food which caters for most dietary needs. The majority of the staff are very welcoming (yes I'm a sucker for nice staff) and they also have free wifi which is always a bonus if you have an hour or so to kill. The coffees it's self are great tasting and when you ask for a large... you get a large and they also have a license for alchol, so if it's cold there happy to pop a cheeky wee tipple of whisky in there! There are two Henry's, theres one on the seagate with no outdoor seating and one, which is my favorite, at the main square which has outdoor seating. Right now there construction work however over the next months or so it will defo be my go to on a nice day in Dundee.... not that I need an excuse any more!

However, we didn't have long to wait and the lovely blonde lady with the big welcoming smile (who may have been the owner but I'm not sure) brought us a menu to read in the meantime. She and another member of staff served us during our meal and I have to say the service is second to none - really first class. There is just so much choice and really interesting, imaginative, meals and snacks too. Everything from sandwiches, salads, burgers and 'lite bites' to superb main meals and dreamy desserts; everything is presented beautifully. Large selection of soft drinks, herb and fruit infusions, excellent coffees, wine, beer and cider - just about anything you could wish for! I can personally recommend the exquisite grilled halloumi cheese and salad with balsamic dressing - utterly gorgeous!! The place is very clean - tables were cleared and wiped thoroughly as soon as they were vacated. The tables and chairs are chunky wood, there is a wooden floor as well. There are mini-spots set into the ceiling and framed articles from magazines praising the cafe on the walls. There's a full-size disabled toilet in addition to the usual ones - again, everything was spotlessly clean and looked after. We intend to return for an evening meal before long as we didn't have very long to linger yesterday. You can book a table in advance which is very helpful, the place being so popular! There is a free car park to the left of the cafe or you can park in the side street opposite.
