I initially gave them the benefit of the doubt and assumed it was an honest mistake that could easily be fixed. Unfortunately, that hasn't been the case. I've sent multiple emails, made several phone calls, and left voicemails, but I haven't received a single response. The lack of communication and customer service is incredibly frustrating. I wish I would've seen the reviews here before ordering. Many people seem to have had similar experiences. At this point, I have no idea how to get this resolved. I had a tough time finding parking on Bancroft but the service is great. The older Chinese lady has been working there for 30 years. She used to be at the bookstore across the street. I don't know if that means she worked at the ASUC Bookstore and apparel and gifts. But, she clearly know her stuff. Make sure you have the email and order number for her to find your order. The wifi is non-existent and it took me a bit to switch to cellular to find the order. After that it was fast and quick. The store is well stocked with neat shirts for gifts like the Tommy Bahama Hawaiian CAL shirt. It was pricey but great for a present. The Lululemon UC Berkeley/CAL apparel is a draw and that was what I picked up. The store itself is clean and orderly. Support a local business and send your favorite relative an updated CAL gear. read more

I sent them an email about a package marked "delivered" but was not delivered on 3/14 (today is 3/28) and received no response. No response to my phone message either. I filed a lost package claim with UPS but was told (after being on the phone with UPS for over an hour) that Fall Rush chose a shipment level/grade that (according to the signed contract between Fall Rush and UPS) requires the shipper/seller to refund or replace items. UPS also stated that they tried to contact Fall Rush but received no response either. If Fall Rush wants UPS to be accountable for the lost package/money, Fall Rush needs to chose a higher (AKA: more expensive) shipping level/grade. DO NOT BUY FROM THIS STORE ONLINE. I ordered two sweatshirts in October of this year, one of which had an obvious defect. I delayed in contacting them and today was told that it had been too long since the purchase, even though they saw the defect in the photo I submitted to them. That's when I was an undergrad at Berkeley and a lowly sales clerk for most of my years there. I came back to the old campus yesterday to go see the David Daniels concert at Hertz Hall. It wasn't the first time, but this was actually the first time I seriously perused the ASUC store since I graduated lo these many years. When dinosaurs ruled the earth. But the funny thing is very little has changed in terms of the layout of the bottom floor of the store. Still the same sweats and T's. Cal golf balls. Cal mugs. Enough bearware to supply a year's worth of karaoke nights at the Russian River Resort. Even the kids looked the same. That was me. Yes, I was the geeky one who prided myself on how well I folded the T-shirts on the sales table and how I memorized all the price points for the class rings. I was so proud at how quickly I plowed through sales transactions on the ancient cash register with the IBM adding machine noise. I remember I had my first doobie in the backroom. That's when I started to sell the $5.99 pairs of Cal shorts for $599 and asked if I could call to validate their credit card limits. Only I kept giggling when I asked. Oh well. Lilly loved me. She was an older black woman who helped stock the shelves with us young whippersnappers. Lilly must have seen us come and go with the years, and I loved her because she used to bring homemade cookies which we could only eat in the stock room, which was where I had the doobie. Gee, I loved that stock room. Now I see it's an elaborate office for somebody who must run things there. The second floor here is all new to me. All the manly stuff is up here. I looked at a sweatshirt we used to sell for $9.98 back in the day. It now sells for a whopping $48. What price spirit? The times, they are a-changing. It was fun walking down memory lane here, but Thomas Wolfe is probably right...you can't go home again. Go Bears! read more

The ASUC Store has changed a lot over the years. The Cal-branded Office Supplies used to be up front and now you'll find a nice selection in the basement (along with the textbooks). The bookstore is pretty much the same, while the back end of the main floor is pretty much unused. And consistent with probably every other Campus, "Blue and Gold" clothing and other high margin stuff have exploded space-wise sideways and upstairs. Sometime I wonder if only parents and alumni can afford it and why they don't go down to Bancroft Clothing down the street. Observation #1 - Wow, there are a lot of really articulate and well-written reviews for the bookstore at this university. I mean, it makes sense, but it was just sort of funny to take note of this... Observation #2 - Most university bookstores are very similar. Tons of clothing, logo'ed planners and pens and Christmas tree ornaments and lariats, tons of textbooks in the basement. This one is no exception. Observation #3 - You are therefore left with only a few ways to judge a university bookstore with any meaning at all... Location, size, and helpfulness of the staff. Observation #4 - It's right off of a main street and main walkway and easy to get to... it's huge... and the students working there seem to be pretty consistently in a good mood, and are helpful. Cal merchandise is a bit pricier than Bancroft Clothing company, but their designs tend to be more unique. The latest trend in Cal shirts (at least for women) has been the vintage look. I ended up buying one for around $20 or so. They have any type of Cal souvenir you could imagine and then some. I mean, how many things can you get your alma mater printed on? I thought for sure they would even have Cal condoms, but maybe that would be a different type of store. There are also school supplies and the like. The day I was there it was really quiet. Like eerily quiet. I asked the young student guy who worked there where all the people are. He looked at me like I should know better and said: "It is the morning after St. Patrick's Day." Oh. I ordered two items online from The Student Store. One item arrived with the security sensor still on the item. I tried calling the number on the invoice but my calls went straight to voicemail. My efforts to reach them by email were also futile, as the email was returned marked "undeliverable". I returned the item requesting a full refund. As of this date, have not received my refund. Walking into the Cal Student Store brought be right back to my college days. Yes, I am a nerd and I love school supplies. No, I don't want to go back to college. I love looking at the different merchandise. It's amazing how much crap they can put a school name or logo on. Really, if you go to Cal and attend classes there... everyone around you already knows you go to school there. Is it absolutely necessary to have every piece of clothing, every writing utensil, every notebook/datebook/bluebook, every wearable or carryable item branded with the school name? On top of it, the prices are insane. I imagine half of your college debt (or your parent's debt if you are spoiled) goes to this seemingly essential crap. I am also floored at the price of textbooks in the Student Store. Even to rent a book is expensive (LOL, back in my undergrad days there was no such thing as "renting" a textbook unless you checked it out of the library, not to mention a digital download of a textbook). I know prices are better off campus or on the internet (that hasn't changed from my college days)... or if you are lucky you can borrow one from a friend. I was shocked that bluebooks are now greenbooks (a recently started trend for the tree huggers). Aside from that, I enjoyed the store. Everything was cute and irresistible. I was tempted to walk out with an armload of notebooks, pens and a sweatshirt but I resisted. What would I do with all that crap anyway? I graduated from college years ago. read more

All righty, here we are at the Cal Student Store, The Mother, The Nephew, and I last month. The Nephew has aspirations to come here for his masters in business at his dream university, University of California, Berkeley at the Haas School of Business. The Mother wanted to buy him a Cal souvenir, however, The Nephew is superstitious and is afraid of jinxing his wish to attend. Oh crikey, cultural superstitions. I have faith in his getting in no matter what when the time comes. We looked at the computer section of this store. I was able to find the dream pink back cover for my iPad2 at this store. I could not believe it, right shade of pink and it coordinates well with my magnetic cover and case. Score! Sweet! I come here when I can in-between studying at Doe Library. I have acquired a few souvenirs from here: sweatshirts, t-shirts, caps, notebooks, and binders. I hear the Big Game between Golden Bear and Cardinal Red will be held here this year on our side of the Bay. Looking forward to the Top Ten Reasons t-shirt, I got the 2010 version. I also hope to get one of those certain t-shirts that are only sold at this particular game at Berkeley. (I cannot say what it is, after all this is a family friendly website. Way back when, a long time ago, when I was attending Berkeley, skipping classes to play softball at Underhill or shooting pick-up hoops at Bancroft courts, this place was called ASUC Store. That acronym translates to Associated Students of the University of California Store. I guess that was a time at Berkeley where socialist ideas were prevelant, and socialist type organizations existed. Like Co-Op Foods grocery, Missing Link Cyclery, Co-op student housing. A time when riots were in the streets over People's Park being built over. When Tower records was boycotted in favor of student run Co-op Records. Now, it is all about Capitalism. The ASUC store used to only be downstairs. Now it has taken over part of the upstairs. I was wondering if Pauley Ballroom has turned into a mega store for T-shirts. Now, instead of T-shirts sold where a portion goes back to student organizations (well it still might right now, I don't know), it is corporations that have taken over. Nike. Under Armour. Champion. You can now find a myriad of Cal logo designed clothing in styles unique to Nike, or Under Armour, etc., at different price points and quality. 2 floors full of branded merchandise. T-shirts, jackets, caps, keychains, desk accessories, mugs. And whatever is hot now. Like Blue and Gold Crocs, or Peruvian knit caps. For an auction/fundraiser to support the Springstone School, a private 6-12 grades school for kids with Non Verbal Learning difficulties in the heart of Bear Territory (Lafayette), I decided to donate a basket of Cal Gear worth about $100. Cap - Adjustable, wool, classic Cal script design $18.00 Cal Beanie knit cap, 8 inch size $12.00 California Berkeley T-shirt $13.00 Stylish WIndbreaker with hood $55.00 Maybe this can't be called socialism, just fund raising. The Cal Student store has moved just as a heads up. It's not on campus as of currently. I had gone to Cal Student store looking for a flyer flag to put up in my classroom. I have acquired a few this summer always around $15. Well the "normal" sized flags were priced at $28, which is completely ridiculous. I ended up buying a small one because I was not about to pay that much for a piece of felt. Anyways, the store is really small and is connected to some other store. I love the Cal bookstore, it's one of the best college bookstores around and a fairly large one. Came with Hubby to pick up a few t-shirts for him and Cal gifts for my BFF. She's not as proud about graduating from Cal as she is from professional school so I'm going to saturate her home with Cal paraphernalia which will upset her hubby who didn't attend Cal. Got her Cal car mats last year and her hubby says I was cruel to him. LOL. There's so much Cal logo stuff you can buy here - decals, mugs, magnets, clothing, umbrellas, Crocks, hats, notebooks, BBQ items (sauces too), trivets, fans, beach towels, frames, etc. Women's and children's clothing are on the bottom floor. The 2nd floor is all men's clothing, baseball hats/caps. Show your alumni card and it's 10% off your purchase. read more

Your source for officially licensed Cal merchandise. Some portion of every dollar you spend here goes directly to the ASUC fund to support student groups and activities on campus. Having said that, this place is easily the most expensive place to buy Cal gear in the neighborhood (although it's usually name-brand and pretty high-quality stuff). My advice: Look for the blowout sales at the end of each semester, or take advantage of one of their deals like "5% off for each touchdown scored by the football team." If cost is your only concern, check other stores on Bancroft Way and Telegraph Ave. for bargains! read more

Don't waste your time here, just get books from the ACTUAL student store on campus (this store is NOT on campus and is not affiliated with UCB) or on Amazon. They advertise low prices online but then never have "that condition" available, and upcharge for a brand new copy. This all comes after waiting weeks for books to even arrive- they make it seem like you can just pick up your books at the store, but only after you order do they let you know they don't actually stock the books, they have to order them and wait for shipping. If you need books in the first few weeks of the semester, this book store will not have them, though they will not say so until after you've placed your order, and even then it's not always clear. If your books ever do manage to come in, it may be worth the extra shipping costs to avoid dealing with their incredibly rude and unprofessional staff. We get it, you're college kids, but it's time to grow up now and at least *pretend* you know how to conduct yourselves in a professional setting. The girl helping me had no idea how to check if my order had come in (?????? it's your job!!!) and the girl she asked for help just had a bad attitude and refused to help. Save yourself the time and headache- avoid this place entirely. read more

I recently went to pick up the textbook "Linear Algebra And Differential Equations: UC Berkeley Custom Version, Second Edition" for the Math 54: Linear Algebra and Differential Equations undergraduate course. I entered the store and went to the mathematics section, and sure enough, there was a shelf full of Math 54 textbooks. I inspected the selection, and noted that many of them were in poor condition. "Ah," I thought to myself. "Must be used." I was, however, unable to locate a copy with the "Used Saves!" sticker on it. The tag on the shelf read "New: 75.75" and "Used: 57.00," so I can only assume that the store does at least at certain times carry used copies. Naturally, I went to the back of the store and asked the woman at the desk if they had any used copies of the textbook I was looking for. "Oh, those? Yeah, they kind of got.... beat up.... but yeah, we don't have any new copies." I thanked her for her time and left the store, intent on coming back another day. Upon returning, I dug through the shelf a little until I found a copy that had the "Used Saves!" sticker on it, which I naturally assumed had been placed there in the interim since my last visit. "Ah-ha! I found one!" I went up to counter to purchase my textbook. The store clerk, whose name I do not remember (he was very polite) informed me that the copy I had brought up for purchase was not actually a used copy. I was surprised, as the book most DEFINITELY showed signs of heavy handling (like all the other textbooks on the shelf). Defeated, I decided to simply purchase this "new" textbook as I needed it for homework that evening. The clerk very kindly offered to run back the shelf and grab a copy in slightly better condition, which I graciously accepted. He came back with another copy of the textbook, also listed as new. Now, I do not mean to insult this store clerk, but the copy he brought back had a heavy crease in the front cover and a piece of scotch-tape affixed haphazardly to the top edge of the book. I was very surprised that one of the store employees decided to go through the shipment of brand-new Math 54 books that the store received, taking care to handle each on so that it developed the appearance of being used. I was even more surprised that they had taken special care to bend the cover of one copy and affix a piece of tape to the edge in way that gave the appearance that book was very much used. Now, I'm not trying to insinuate that this store takes used textbooks and marks them as new regardless of the condition in order to charge desperate college students a little bit more. I certainly did not feel like this was exactly what the store was doing, at any point at all, during my experience shopping there. I am merely saying that, if you would like to purchase a new textbook, go to a different store, as this one's brand-new textbooks have the odd characteristic of being in the exact same condition as most used textbooks. read more

Found a 10-hook piece for hanging over the door for only $2 at the bookstore - what a steal! Parking is pricey around the campus. I'm back at school at 42, pretty picky and not easily impressed. My experience with the Cal Store has been top notch. Always helped, always get what I want. This Spring I was missing a book (I had a total of 8 shipped to me). When I called, a young guy was on the phone, assuring me it was their mistake, and the he would make sure I got it right away. Two days later it arrives. He was super polite and very intent on making sure I got taken care of. A five star attitude and follow-through. read more

Overheard some middle aged guys say this to a cashier. This is the place to go for ALL your student needs. I may be slightly biased, but I've also been in Berkeley for over 3 years and have seen all the shops (Bancroft Clothing, Bear Basics, Neds). Nothing compares to the selection that the Student Store has to offer. Every Berkeley t-shirt/sweatshirt/socks/BBQ set you could ever want in one place. Trust me. Your dog really does need that Cal jersey, your aunt would love that Cal purse from the Sak, and your gf will leave you if you don't buy the pack of Victoria's Secret Pink panties with "Berkeley" on the butt. At least mine threatened it. The ongoing debate about cheaper textbooks is ridiculous. You know Ned's has some cheaper and the Student Store has some cheaper. The difference is typically 5 cents. If you're that concerned, get it online. Otherwise, just make one trip to the Student Store for all the essentials. And the staff is really sweet, too ;) read more

I had to go to the actual store to buy the books I needed only to find out the used copy was sold out and the one book I needed the next day was out of stock.
