Very friendly staff took our orders at the counter. First the main dish, and then (for what we ordered) the side dishes. We both had bowls, which come with 3 sides. I had an Eggplant Bowl. The eggplant looked pretty oily (as eggplant often does), but it didn't taste it at all. The eggplant were delightful, on a bed of lentils and turmeric ginger rice. I loved all 3 of the sides I got: Pickled Cabbage, Beets, and Moroccan Carrot Salad. It's hard to pick a favorite, they were all so delicious and different. I asked for the Tahini on the side, rather than drizzled on everything as they normally do. My husband had a Falafel Bowl. The falafels were a nice golden brown on the outside, and a deep green on the inside. Even though deep fried, they didn't seem greasy at all. I ate one, and it was one of the best falafels I've had. For sides he also had the Pickled Cabbage, along with the Israeli Salad, and Harrisa Cauliflower. He found the Israeli Salad pretty blah (not much flavor, so I ate most of it, and thought it was fine). He thought the Cauliflower had more, interesting spices, but his favorite was definitely the Pickled Cabbage. Both bowls were made so that you can't really see the rice and lentil bed until you eat some of the stuff on the top. That's why I included a photo after my husband ate some of his falafels. Excellent shawarma - I've tried the chicken and the meat. Fresh, delicious house made pita with super fresh ingredients. Hummus is excellent too! Really deserves 4.5 stars; I love this place and I love the way the menu is structured and the options. I'm deducting a star though for one important reason: Falafel Republic makes lousy falafel! Just the falafel balls; I love everything else. But the falafel balls are too mooshy and gummy, and they need more seasoning. A decent menu with Pita, rice bowls, Shawarma, and falafel. My complaint is that the meat was precut and tepid, not hot, which is a food poisoning concern. They could also be more free with the sauces. Adding some chips to the order wouldn't go amiss. I was craving Mediterranean food and came across this place here on Yelp. I'm so glad that I went! The gentleman who served up our food was extremely kind and helpful! He went far beyond what I would expect for a quick restaurant, and was very patient while I was pretty indecisive about what to get. I ended up ordering the Pita with both falafel and eggplant (the eggplant cost a little extra). It was all delicious and well-spiced, with the falafel having a beautiful deep brown color on the outside. It looked great, was cooked perfectly, and tasted great! I also ordered the Rose Lemonade, which was exquisite! The food was quick to come out, as well, though the place was empty while I was there. We placed an order online, called in to make a small alteration on our pick up time. Turns out their phone is dead. Middle age man at counter: "Yeah we don't do phone calls. We don't do phone calls order. Online ordering only." What. Then why do you have a phone number?! Why would you lie to customers, why not just apologize that your phone is not working and fess up to it? Who are the actual owners? I've seen so many bowls, but never one like this! It's about time someone did this! I had a bowl with beef and lamb, roasted cauliflower, cucumbers, cabbage and quinoa. It was topped with a nice sized scoop of hummus and the meats were drizzled with tahini sauce. All amazing flavors separately, and together it was like perfect harmony... My wife had the similar but in a pita...the WHOLE PITA! Not the half pita. The...whole...pita. So I guess that's like perfect harmony with the best soundproof headphones because it's all in one...whole...pita! Yes I still can't get over that. The food is tasty and healthy but I wouldn't say authentic. Regardless if something is tasty is worth a try. The chicken is very tender and flavorful but my favorite is the eggplant bowl. If you are looking for a vegetarian option I'd recommend the eggplant over the falafel. The desserts by the counter are usually a hit as well. The employees are always kind and helpful and will answer any questions you have about the menu. The Ambiance isn't really reflective of mediterranean vibe or culture but it is decent for a quick bite. I love Falafel Republic. Their house made slushies, the top notch food, being able to eat a delicious dairy free whatever when I visit! Their family meal deal is excellent: a rotisserie chicken, harissa, side, and two pita for $23. Fries are outstanding, they use good oil, and the ketchup is organic. Yum. My beef is that the glove issue hasn't been fixed. Ugh. I've watched employees go from handling money to food while wearing the same pair of gloves every time I've been in there, for the past four plus visits. They'll come up front from the back with slimy looking gloves, start making food, checkout out a customer, and then go right back to food making. I'll leave out a worse part, because I had complained via email and that employee must have been dealt with (haven't seen him since, thankfully). But PLEASE teach your people to change their gloves and actually WASH their hands!!! This last time I just made sure to get the chicken meal deal so that nothing out of a package was touched. I came in while the city of Ashland was our of natural gas, so they weren't able to make their pitas. So I had the bowl with the beef/lamb. Wow! Did not disappoint at all. So tender and juicy with amazing flavors. The cabbage salad, cucumbers and roasted cauliflower were all equally delicious. Excellent customer service and friendliness. Most of the sides are vegan friendly and the staff will reassure you if you have questions. Something that is great and special if how they top the rice with stewed lentils. Solid five stars! Cleanness - Especially important right now, everything was very clean, even the bathrooms. Food Quality - Everything was very hot and fresh, and perfectly seasoned. My party all got salads. I really like good salads, and am usually disappointed, but this was very good. It included olives, pickled cabbage, and chopped cucumber melange. Added the lamb for $2. We also got falafel and it was hot and fresh with a good spice balance. Friendliness - I think we were served by the owner and he was very courteous. Portion for price - Very nice. In a touristy town, this is the best bargain I've found so far. Portion sizes were on the large side, to where I barely finished it comfortably. Nice value for the price. Local/sustainable - A lot of the produce and other ingredients were local/organic; specifically, the lettuce was from a partnership with a local farm. I appreciate stuff like that. Nice job!
