I've found the portion size has gotten fairly inconsistent over the past couple of years, so that's one thing. But I think I'm calling it as of last night - I stopped in to put in a takeout order and there was no one up front. I saw someone in the back, but didn't want to do the loud "excuse me" thing since he was in the middle of cleanup, so I just waited for a couple of minutes until he came to the front. My normal order is : falafel wrap with tahini and garlic spread, grape leaves, fattoush salad, and rice pudding. Tonight the cucumber salad underneath the grape leaves smelled rotten. The fattoush salad was a cucumber salad with baked pita crisps on top. The falafel wrap was not their normal toasted wrap. It wasn't toasted, didn't have either spread, and actually had a cigarette smell to it. The rice pudding was good, but unfortunately I ate that first, and now have a sewage taste in my mouth from the cucumber and tomatoes. What a waste. read more

Hole in the wall falafel place with, hands down, the best falafel you'll find in the Boston area. Made fresh, quality has always been consistent. Crispy on the outside, fresh & green on the inside. I tend to get their plate, so it is offered with the eggplant sides, hummus, pita, pickled vegetables, etc. I'd say the sides are great too, but the main star is the falafel. Eat it fresh - that is when it's best. Pricing is around $12 per person. $15-ish if you add baklava for dessert. Minimal seating options, I'd recommend this for take-out. Staff is nice and will usually try to upsell you (add the drink, add the dessert, add another side! Lol). read more

We tried Falafel Place years ago shortly after they first opened and weren't impressed. After our usual go-to falafel/shawarma place wasn't delivering this weekend we decided to give them another try. Won't be fooled again. Shawarma: gristle-filled and not flavorable. Falafel: fine, nothing outstanding. Baba ganoush: tasted like boiled eggplant puree. Very underseasoned, lacking the distinctive "char' flavor and more importantly any lemon. Rice: overcooked and soggy?? Fries: Inedible. It's like all of the salt and pepper that could have gone into other dishes were piled onto the fries. We had to *scrape* the salt and pepper off of each fry and even then we ditched them, tossing almost the entire order in the trash. The picture doesn't even do it justice, they were *crunchy* with salt and pepper. Because there are always some silver linings, I will say they delivered quickly (went through their site, rather than GH or UE or a third party) and they are not expensive. However, when you're tossing half of what you receive it doesn't really matter how cheap it is. read more

I wish I took a picture of our food so badly! It was amazing, I've just discovered my favorite shawarma roll up and shawarma plate in Boston. By far surpasses all of my other reviews. This place makes my 4 star spots taste like a 2 star! We got the lam shawarma roll up, chicken and lamb mixed shawarma roll up, and chicken shawarma plate and all three were phenomenal. Also the BAKLAVA is one of the best we have ever had. I would cater this! And $1.24 a piece is really good for the flavor! Also the service and customer service from the man behind the counter was great! It was warm and toasty inside the tiny hole in the wall style place and the food was just phenomenal and so full of flavor. I almost never give one star, but order tonight was a total fail. Go to Sam's Falafel nearby instead (and feel free to say Desiree sent you). Detail: Got the BOGO falafel roll ups with extra for fries and shawarma sides to try the place for the first time. First, no fries orders at all. Only one of the shawarma sides showed up, which managed to be both dry and simultaneously soaked in a lake of grease. (No indication of type of shawarma on side add on listing btw.) The falafel wraps did not contain crisp falafel, but some sort of cheap, almost tasteless, undercooked flour mush. Pita was pitiful. No reason to be this bad, only a few minutes away. So sad. Paid via Grubhub. For some reason it's slightly less expensive on there than their own website. They sent me Steven N's food instead. So I called the delivery service, "Grabull". Some lady answered, sounded like some guys' mother just answering her kitchen phone and asked me questions to which she would interrupt my answers in order to berate me. Example: She would ask, "what's the last 4 digits on the order number." I would respond, "Well, on this order..." and before I could get to the digits, she would stop be to tell me what I'm doing wrong and that she only needs to hear the thing she asked for. Anyway, after looking it up for like 5 minutes she finally stopped breathing into the mic and told me she couldnt do anything and has no idea why her driver picked up the wrong thing, she certainly didn't tell him to do that. Thanks, idiot. After getting off the phone with her I called the restaurant. Then the guy there said "are you Michael by chance?" Because he knew the driver picked up the wrong order. he'd be willing to, "make my food" if only he had a driver but he doesn't. OH WELL. "What do you want me to do?" "I want my food or money back," I said. He began to berate me over what I had to say, telling me, "If you're gonna talk to me like that" to which I promptly hung up. Then he called back 4 times. I picked up and he starts off with, "we got off on the wrong foot. But you are being unreasonable" or something equally nonsensical. And then I started repeating, "do you have my money or food?" 4x until he said no and I hung up and got Grubhub to give me a refund. Fuck Falafel Place. AND, when I asked for a bag to wrap up about 4 bites of the wrap to take home he added 2 falafel balls free of charge. I got the Lamb Shawarma Plate $14.50 (includes $1 of hummus) and its enough food for 3 meals. It's delicious, I recommend the lamb so much. It's freshly cooked to the plate. The lamb plates come with a spicy sauce and a white sauce. I prefer eating it with hummus the most. A side is plenty to eat the plate. The Baklava is THE BEST around and I wish I got more than just one piece. The side of fries is a large amount for $3.99. read more

If you are looking for pita's made out of recycled cardboard and mediocre service/food while in the Boston area, this is the place for you.

So I haven't actually tried the namesake of this restaurant, but they do serve a decent lamb shawarma and kafta kabob plate over a generous portion of rice with a refreshing cucumber salad on the side. It also comes with pita bread and strangely addicting tahini sauce. The meat itself was generously portioned and seasoned but tasted slightly dry and chewy. However, the overall plate was enough for two meals which I appreciated given that Boston restaurants are often stingy, and the price didn't break my bank. The place itself only has a few tables though and could use better ventilation. It's more of a takeaway option unless you don't mind smelling like food. read more

The meat was so dry, it was like eating rock! Zero flavor. Zero moistness. Just a big zero all around! The cucumber side salad had little flavor. Just bland as day, at least not dry though. But it was suboptimal We got take out, so maybe the food is better fresh. I got a falafel plate. However, it seems more like a falafel salad? There was one piece of pita, but no hummus or baba ganoush. The falafels were less flavorful than I am used to, but maybe that's just personal preference. Hubby got the lamb shawarma wrap because there were good reviews. It was tiny with not much meat at all. Friend got the chicken shawarma plate with fries. The plate was a little pricey, considering there are many other falafel shops in the area that I noticed were lower. But nevertheless, it was very tasty! I feel like (for my eating habits) the dish could have had more sauce, so I asked for extra on the side. The falafel was great and very crispy! I wish I had got more. This place has kind of became our go-to for "catering" get-togethers with friends (total group 4-6). We dont really order off the actual catering menu but just get a couple family platters with a bunch of sides. Really nice option to just pre-order a day or two online before and call to verify (mostly my OCD to ensure our plans aren't squashed at the last moment). I can say they have yet to disappoint. Food, shared amongst two (and was way more than enough): - Side of falafel - Sooooooo good, and comes on top of a mini salad - Side of dolmades - Really solid, thought a teeny tiny bit mushy. Also on top of a mini salad - Side of hummus - Solid. They pour oil on top so if you don't like that, ask them to refrain - Greek salad - Huge, good (not great) and loaded with cucumbers, tomatoes and olives They also tossed in like a pound of fresh pita bread. Chicken shawarma roll-up is wonderfully prepared with mix of thinly sliced chicken served on pita bread with garlic paste, tomatoes, pickles, onions & tahini sauce. Cucumber salad with feta feels like the most authentic Greek salad I have had since going to Greece The Baklava, while a small portion, is some of the best baklava I have had in the United States. Unfortunately nothing about any of the food is middle eastern or remotely levantine. The falafel was a strange white color when it has to be somewhat green inside for the parsley that's supposed to be mixed with it. It was inedible. The baba ghanoush had did not taste of eggplant. It ws something grey, the grey not being eggplant though it was very bad, flavor was way off. Very odd. Then theres the rice pudding, which was gritty and the consistency too watery. The lamb/beef shawarma was not bad though, to be honest. The garlic spread was a bit heavy but otherwise, it wasnt too tough and the crispiness and flavors/spices were on point. Yessss I live so close to here, it's such a shame that I'm trying to cut and can't eat this for lunch and dinner all the time. Stopped by for an early dinner so it wasn't too busy yet. Got the lamb and beef shawarma plate and it was MASSIVE. Larger portions than Noor and The Shawarma Place by far. Great deal for the $$!! And it was delicious. The plate comes with rice pilaf and shephard's salad and is fully topped with tender and flavorful lamb and beef. So good! Also comes with a big round of pita, tahini, and this ridiculously good spicy sauce. Small downside is that everything is super greasy. But that's when it's the tastiest, right? I eat a lot in a single sitting so this was plenty for 2 meals. If I was being conservative with food then it'd be enough for 3 meals probably. I haven't tried the wraps yet so I'll have to be back for that. The place is small and not really ventilated/air conditioned so it's hot to eat in and you end up smelling like food. So much shawarma, so little time! We discovered Falafel Place through Yelp and we're seriously hooked. We stopped by a week ago and the customer service was superb. The staff were super helpful with recommendations. I had the Lamb Roll Up that was loaded with meat and tahini in a warm, soft pita and my friend enjoyed hers with Grape Leaves too. They were both very flavorful. Also I tried the Falafel Roll Up tonight and it wasn't anything less than spectacular. I actually prefer it to the Lamb and Chicken because it left me room for a piece of baklava. It wasn't the best baklava in the world but I liked that it wasn't drowning in sugar and was crispy. Where it fell short was the filling. It was missing the nuttiness that baklava is remembered for. Overall, we're very pleased with Falafel Place and will feed our shawarma cravings here when they arise again. read more

Falafel Place is off to a strong start and I'm thrilled. I've been 3 times now and everything has been top notch. The spicy hummus is a must try if you are a spicy food fan. The falafel is deeply flavorful and studded with sesame seeds, the salads are fresh and perfectly dressed, and the pita is pillowy and warm. The chicken shwarma roll up my might be my favorite item on the menu though - full of grilled chicken and charred vegetables, hummus, pickles, and lettuce - super, super tasty!! This is the perfect addition to our little neighborhood of Winter Hill. I've been twice in three days! I stopped by Friday when I was on my way home from work, pleasently surprised by the crowd that was in there. I ordered the falafel plate and added hummus. It was absolutely delicious! When I went yesterday, I opted for the veggie plate which is more of a sampler. It came with baba ganoush, hummus, falafel, and a cucumber/tomato salad. The hot sauce that they give on the side is so delicious, next time I'll have to ask for extra! The prices are quite cheap, everything seems to be under $8 give or take. The only bad thing about Falafel Place is how close it is to my apartment, I don't think I'll be strong enough not to order from here every week! read more
