Koshari Mama was just so good. There were gluten-free options galore. The GF pita was really good. I felt like I was getting my fill of protein between the lentils in the power bowl, fava bean stew, and falafel. The fresh and light tomato and cucumber salad was the perfect accompaniment. We've loved the atmosphere at this restaurant and the vegetarian dishes were delicious. There are a few dishes that have some plant based meat like the moussaka! It's a very intimate environment and the host comes by and greets you and asks you about your familiarity with Egyptian cuisine. Well worth the experience. read more

We went again this past Saturday night for date night. It's about an hour plus drive ti get into the city but always look forward to the food and atmosphere. This visit was just as delicious as our past several visits but the night was quite amazing! They had a performer singing and playing middle eastern music which added to the night. When we walked in the waitress greeted us as old friends welcoming us back, and just felt nice to get that warm reception. They truly aim to make everyone feel like family there. The food was amazing starting with a mezze plate with hummus, babaganoush, yogurt with mint, and the best falafel ever! We also had the special French fries with an amazing sauce I can't spell but definitely exceptional. We also shared the main course The Koshiri special which is a mix of rice, levtals, macaroni and sone other things with a set of sauces you add to taste, and that's can be ordered spicy to mild, we had medium which warmed me right up! Desert was amazing with a filo bred pudding which is delicious and light, and we had the rice pudding which maybe the best I've had in a long time! WE have been here twice now and i absolutely love this place. This place has the best Falafel we have had in all of the Boston and west of Boston and North of Boston area period. The service is amazing and i love this one waitress who has served us both times. Amazing person and so funny. First time we were the owner was cooking literally and she came out and explained the dish and chatted with us. The Koshari is amazingly simple but very delicious dish. I usually ask for extra sauce and Vinegar . The mezze platters items are all really good as well as the lentil soup. Mushroom Shawarma is nice too but Falafel is the bomb. I had been wanting to try this place for months but I was really disappointed! My koshari didn't come with any tomato sauce- it was just plain. The tomato cucumber salad had no flavor- the tomatoes were almost white and there was no parsley. The falafel was incredibly greasy. Bummer. read more

Was here for dinner with a friend on a Wednesday evening. This is a little cute spot in Somerville. It wasn't too crowded for mid week and we were able to get a cozy corner by the window. Inside it's beautifully decorated. As soon as I was seated the server was very kind and I ordered my drinks (black mint tea). For apps he helped us decide which to get. We got the cucumber mint and the babaghanoush which comes with pita. The cucumber mint what garlic and was just perfect! For our mains we both got the Koshari and you can pick what spice level of sauce you want. This is my first time eating Koshari so I didn't know what to expect, but it was a mix of lentils, rice and chickpeas. It also had some macaroni topped with fried onions. I loved the texture and spice level. We ended the night with Kunafeh and a semolina like cake. I personally liked the Kunafeh better , unlike the Turkish kind, this one had a puddling like base. The moussaka was ok - very different from Greek moussaka - but not deeply spiced. The koshari was interesting, especially with the two sauces that came with it. the muhammara was A+, and along with the fried eggplant, the stars of the evening... until dessert. Throwing in a review for their catering here - I went to an event in Cambridge last night and I was blown away. I have literally never, in my (55 years of) life, gone to a buffet event where every single thing I put in my mouth was absolutely delicious. There is always one thing that doesn't impress or live up to expectations. Not so last night. Not one thing. Huge bonus that it was vegan (I'm vegetarian) so I also didn't have to worry about putting chicken in my mouth by mistake. But this spread made the meat people happy too ("chicken" and "beef" empanadas... no one would know they weren't the real deal unless you told them). It was really, really excellent. Amazing restaurant with extremely welcoming staff and unique crate-inspired furniture and lively music. We tried pomegranate Egyptian soda, which was ultra fizzy and sweet. The koshari bowl is extremely hearty and flavorful with fried onions, tomato sauce, and vinegar. We also tried a brunch item, the alexandrian style foule with falafel and omelette. The foule was very spicy and went well with the bread. The falafel is amazing crispy on the outside and tender inside, a must get item! We will definitely be coming back to try more of the items! We really wanted to like this place. The vibe is cute, the ingredients seemed fresh, and the food looked good. Unfortunately, the taste of everything we got ("Just Eggplant", "Koshari", and "The Egyptian") was very bland. If you grew up on Arabic/Egyptian food and are hoping for that authentic flavor, you'll likely be disappointed. The chickpeas were hard, the pita bread lacked flavor, and overall, the dishes fell very flat. It's delicious, hearty, vegan meal. We also got the "meat"balls, which I found quite warm and comforting, but my partner thought was nothing special. The meatballs are a fairly small portion, so I probably wouldn't get it again given how generously portioned and delicious the koshari was. This is a fairly small place, so it may be a bit difficult to get a seat (though they do have small table that is bar-type seating), but I do not think they take reservations. read more
